John E. Maier
John E. Maier, age 87, of Clayton, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
John retired after 30 years from Delco Products, was former mayor of the Village of Clayton from 1984-1990, served as councilman for the Village of Clayton from 1976-1983, was a member of the Gettysburg Baptist Church, and served in three different churches as a secretary, Sunday School superintendent and training director.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Margaret (Bruner) Maier; sons and daughter-in-law John David Maier of Texas , John W. and Sheryl Maier of Indiana; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Chuck Brubaker of Piqua, Ohio; grandchildren John David Maier, Sheri Lynn Adkins, Stephen Maier and Scott C. Maier; seven great-grandchildren; adopted daughter Linda Fox of Dayton, Ohio; special friends, Lily and Trellis Grubbs of Clayton, Ohio; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Golda (Hartzel) Maier; and his brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, August 8, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home.
Interment followed the service at Hopkins Cemetery in Lily, Kentucky.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International.

Peggy Sue Sizemore
Peggy Sue Sizemore, 40, of North Homestead Lane, Lancaster, Kentucky, died Saturday, July 23, 2004. She was the daughter of Pearl Sizemore of Hyden, Kentucky, and the late Anna Huff Sizemore.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the Betts & West Funeral Home in Nicholasville, Kentucky, with burial following in the Nonesuch Cemetery.

Jarvis Parsley
Jarvis Parsley, age 94, of Garrett Avenue, Brooksville, Kentucky, a native of Laurel County, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2004, at his home in Bracken County, Kentucky. He was a son to the late Sally Overbay and Louis Parsley, and was preceded in death by his wife, Zada Rae (Moore) Parsley.

Chad Hall
Chad Hall, age 78, of Land O' Lakes, Florida, formerly of London, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004, at the University Community Hospital in Tampa, Florida. He was the husband of the late Verna Hall.

Anna Mae Nelson
Anna Mae Nelson, age 83, of Kentucky Highway 490, East Bernstadt, Kentucky, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004, at the Marymount Medical Center in London, Kentucky.
Born November 11, 1920, in East Bernstadt, Kentucky, she was a nurse at the Laurel County Health Department. She attended Sue Bennett College in London and the School of Nursing in Glasgow, Kentucky, was a former employee of the TB Hospital in London, and was a member of the First Baptist Church at East Bernstadt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James R. Rose and Margaret (Jones) Rose; and her husband, Sherman B. Nelson.
Survivors include three sons, Charles D. Nelson and wife Anna of Titusville, Florida; James B. Nelson and wife Naomi and Sherman Douglas Nelson and wife Sue, all of East Bernstadt, Kentucky; two sisters, Virginia Schott Dotson of London, Kentucky, and Margaret (Rose) Wheeler of Middletown, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 9, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Felty officiating. Burial followed in the Nelson Cemetery at East Bernstadt.

Ruby Irene Brashear Blair
Ruby Irene Brashear Blair, age 90, of Blackwater Road, London, Kentucky, passed away Monday, October 4, 2004, in Columbus, Indiana.
Born July 17, 1914, in Leslie County, Kentucky, she was a graduate of Buckhorn High School. She worked in a B-52 bomber factory during World War II as a "Rosie the Riviter." Irene and Ruthford Gay Blair were married on December 13, 1943. She was a Presbyterian and a homemaker for most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Fawbush Brashear and Abigail Morgan Brashear; her brother, Elmer Brashear; and a sister, Pauline Pace; and her husband.
She is survived by two daughters, Frances Blair Voyles of Killeen, Texas , and Georgia Blair Miller of Columbus, Indiana; four grandchildren, Gregory Scott Voyles of San Antonio, Texas , Richard Carl Voyles of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, Joseph Blair Miller and Deanna Blair Miller, both of Greenwood, Indiana; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Scott Voyles and Shannon Rae Voyles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, October 8, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Denvis Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Lily, Kentucky.
The family requests memorials be made to The National Osteoporosis Foundation, Attention: Memorials, 1232 22nd Street NW, Washington , D.C. 20037-1292.

Grant Mattingly
Grant Mattingly, age 65, of Barbourville Road, London, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2004, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky.
Born October 2, 1939, in Hyden, Kentucky, he was a grocery operator.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Mattingly and Cecil (McIntosh) Mattingly; a son, Chad Mattingly; and brothers Joseph Mattingly and Harold Mattingly.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Vaughn Mattingly of London, Kentucky; children Shane Mattingly and Shannon Mattingly, both of London, Kentucky; a sister, Louise Friscoll of Cleveland, Georgia; and a brother, William Wright Mattingly of Lily, Kentucky.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, October 18, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Merrimac Cemetery at London.

Ernest T. Stewart
Ernest T. Stewart, age 86, of Robbinsville, North Carolina, formerly of London, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at the Harris Regional Hospital.
Born February 13, 1918, in Laurel County, Kentucky, he was a retired union steward, a state of Kentucky retiree, veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II the Purple Heart and Oak Leaves, and was a member of the Pine Hill United Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Stewart and Nannie (Sasser) Stewart; his first wife, Edith (Lawson) Stewart, whom he married on August 12, 1957; a brother, Willie Stewart; and sisters Hazel Fletcher, Pearl Chadwell and Sybill VanDalan.
Survivors include his wife, Allene (Campbell) Stewart of Robbinsville, North Carolina; a daughter, Joyce Stewart of London, Kentucky; a son, Tommy Stewart and wife Belinda of London, Kentucky; a brother, Ray Stewart of Harrison, Michigan; and four grandchildren, Sarah Stewart, Kelli Jo Stewart, Kristie Stewart and Jason Patton, all of London, Kentucky.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 17, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Gabbard officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant View Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Sasser
Mary Ellen Sasser, age 76, of London, Kentucky, passed away Friday, October 15, 2004, at The Heritage Nursing Home in Corbin, Kentucky.
Born January 14, 1928, in Clay County, Kentucky, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Gross and Nellie (Taylor) Gross; her husband, Clifford Kenneth Sasser; and a brother, George Gross Jr.
Survivors include children Letha Begley, Marlene Johnson, Ava Sasser, Dyala Morgan, Jannifer House, all of London, Kentucky, and Dennie Sasser of Corbin, Kentucky; a special friend, Rhonda Helton; sisters and brothers Edward Gross of Thompkinsville, Kentucky, Randell Gross of Corbin, Kentucky, Carl Gross of Livingston, Kentucky, Bristol Gross and Roscoe Gross, both of Bedford, Indiana, Tilmon Gross of London, Kentucky, Julie Herron, Christine Broughton, Kathrine Sawyers, Maggie Kirgan and Edna Simpson, all of Corbin, Kentucky, and Katie Sawyers of Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 18, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Taylor Cemetery at Blackwater, Kentucky.

Ada Rowland
Ada Rowland, age 99, of North 12th Street, London, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2004, at the Laurel Heights Nursing Home. She was a daughter of the late Dock Duncan and Celia (Allen) Duncan, and was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Rowland.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, October 18, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the Andes Cemetery.

Bernice Buttery
Bernice Buttery, age 76, of Ray Johnson Road, London, Kentucky, passed away Friday, October 15, 2004, at the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Myrtle Proffitt Powell, and the widow of Hiram Buttery.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, October 18, 2004, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the Hacker Cemetery.

Juanita "Bonnie" Payne
Juanita "Bonnie" Payne, age 77, of Fairfield, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2004, at her residence. She was a daughter of the late William and Lillian (Hensley) Nelson, and was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Payne.
Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, at the Webster Funeral Home in Fairfield. Graveside commital services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, at the Parsley Cemetery in Laurel County under direction of the Bowling Funeral Home.
