BOBBY STEELE

Robert Lee “Bobby” Steele, 67, of Mercer County, died Monday, Oct 15, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov 14, 1939 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Roy and Dora Gritton Steele and was the husband of Mary Frances Phillips Steele.

He was a farmer, a horseman and a member of the Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one sister, Mary Ann Royalty of Versailles; several nieces and nephews and his pet, Lucky.

Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Oct 19 at the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with Elwood Norton officiating. Burial is to follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon Bible Fund or the St Jude Children’s Hospital.

LINDEN STOCKER

Linden Stocker, 72, of Pine Haven Way, Lancaster, died Friday October 12, 2007 at the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center.

Born July 8, 1935, in Madison County, he was a son of Mamie Davis Stocker and the late Elbert Stocker.

He was a member of Kirksville Christian Church and attended Forks of Dix River Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: his wife, Carol Long Stocker; three daughters, Linda Carol Green of Harrodsburg, Karen Ann Hazlett (Danny) of Lancaster, and Kathy Howard (Ronald) of Lancaster; a sister, Betty Joe Rhodus (Jack) of Lebanon, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, October 16, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster by Rev. Jerry Browning. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.

BUD STUMPH

Albert “Bud” Stumph, Jr., 77, of Harrodsburg died Wednesday Oct. 10, 2007 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born Sept. 5, 1930 in Mackville, he was the son of the late Albert Joseph and Nannie Lou Darland Stumph and was the husband of Barbara Ann Stumph of Harrodsburg.

He was the first former volunteer member of the Cornishville Fire Department and retired from Signet in Harrodsburg and most recently had worked as a Tinsmith at Old Fort Harrod State Park.

Barbara Ann Stumph is the mother of his six children.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Donnie (Susan) Stumph of Junction City, Gary (Lillie) Stumph of Harrodsburg; four daughters, Teresa (Dale) Miller of Mercer County, Belinda Gay Devine of Harrodsburg, Debbie (Hobert) Combs of Mercer County, Karen Stumph of Stanford; two sisters, Bertie Mae Todd of Seattle and June Green of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Donald Eugene Stumph of Harrodsburg and Sammie D. Stumph of Mackville; seventeen grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Donald Dwayne Stumph and Stephen Stumph; one son-in-law, Dickie Yates, one sister Wanda Warner and one brother Bill Stumph.

The Funeral was held Friday, Oct 12, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Matthew Atha and George Dye officiating. Burial was in Peters Cemetery in Mackville.

Pallbearers were Troy Combs, Anthony Byrd, Timmy Combs, Danny Ray Stumph, Travis Miller, Joey Stumph, and Timmy Stumph.

Honorary pallbearers were Tammy Yates, Cody Stumph, Jamie Stumph, Nicky Stumph, Bradley Curtsinger, James Curtsinger, Kevin Sallee, Dustin Miller, Melissa Clark, Cheyenne Clark, Makaylee Miller, Susan Abrams, Matthew Stumph, Doug Robinson, Mary Young, Kim Northern, Lori Boswell, Wesley Taylor, Austin Taylor, Tyler Boswell, and Cortney Boswell.

LOUIS ABEL

Louis Allen Abel, 64, Harrodsburg, formerly of Lexington, died Sun, Oct. 21, 2007.

Born in Louisville, he was a son of the late Herman and Hennie Abel.

He was the former owner of Pal Optical & Performance Center.

He is survived by: one daughter, Tammy (Tim) Scully; two grandsons, Trip and Joe Scully, all of Lexington; and a sister, Pat Richman, Nicholasville.

Services were held Thursday, October 25, at the Lexington Cemetery, conducted by Tommy Howard.

W.R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway is in charge of arrangements.

CATHIE BERRYMAN

Cathie Hodge Berryman, 54, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday Oct. 23 at her home.

Born in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Arabelle Hodge.

She was a licensed practical nurse and a former employee of the Thompson-Hood Veteran Center in Wilmore.

She is survived by: two daughters, Becky (Scott) Goodlett and Laura Bailey, both of Harrodsburg; one son, Troy (Julie) Woods of Lawrenceburg; one sister, Lilly Hodge of North Vernon, IN; three brothers, James “Jimmie” Hodge of Campbellsville, Bobby Hodge of North Vernon, IN, and Jesse Hodge of Jessamine County; five grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held Thursday Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Eddie Dye officiating.

Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Thursday prior to service.

CAROLYN CHESSER

Carolyn Frances Chesser, 79, Bloomfield, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at Bluegrass Assisted Living, Bardstown.

She was a native of Washington County, daughter of the late Marshall and Dessie Holt Hood.

She was a homemaker a former employee of General Electric, and a member of Willisburg Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sue Yates, Bloomfield, Brooke Cory, Woodstock, GA, and Kathy Walls, Fort Hood, TX; a son, Glen Chesser, New Haven; three sisters, Ella Mae Burkhead Stratton, Willisburg, Shirley Stone, Bloomfield, and Sue Franklin, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held. Friday, October 19, at the Willisburg Church of God of Prophecy with burial in Highview Cemetery, Chaplin. Brother Steve Puckett will officiate.

Pallbearers were Sam Yates, Glen Chesser, Tim Walls, Stephan Cory, Ethan Dickerson and Troy Jennings.

Houghlin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT CLOYD

Robert Samuel Cloyd, 89 of Junction City, husband of Helen Derritt Cloyd, died October 22, 2007 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born January 16, 1918 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James Johnson and Ella Fox Cloyd.

He was a self-employed carpenter and farmer, a WWII Veteran, a Mason for over fifty years and a member of Junction City First Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a son James William (Linda) Cloyd of Junction City; a daughter, Roberta Ann (Dennis) Willming of Brentwood, TN; two grandchildren, Brandon and Micah Cloyd; a great-grandchild, Timothy Cloyd; and a sister-in-law, Minnie Cloyd, all of Junction City.

Services will be held Thursday, October 25, at 11 am at the Stith Funeral Home in Junction City with Rev. Dale Denton. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Bobby, Travis, Dan, and Phil Cloyd, and Tom and John Young.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Ike McCowan, Buddy Furr, Gene Case, Charles Preston, Edd Cloyd, and Jerry Cloyd.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Wednesday in Junction City.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to Junction City First Baptist Church Building Fund.

EVERETT DUNCAN

Everett George Duncan, 82, of Lebanon Road, Danville, died Friday, October 19, 2007.

Born Aug. 10, 1925, in Georgetown, Kentucky, he was the son of Everett Buster and Mary Montgomery Duncan.

A graduate of Harrodsburg High School, he served as an X-ray technician in the U.S. Navy in World War II. Following the war he was a master plumber and partner in E. B. Duncan & Sons Plumbing and Heating Co.

E.G. had a passion for dogs and birds of all kind and was later the owner of the Bluegrass Pet Motel and Bluegrass Quail Farm in Danville. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Elizabeth Jane Campbell "Betty" Duncan; his daughter, Judy (Kevin) Ellis; two grandchildren, Katie Ellis and Brandon Ellis; a brother, Jack (Joyce) Duncan, Junction City; and two sisters, Irene Estes of Danville and Mary Alice Dettner of Canton, Georgia.

He was predeceased by a brother, W. L. "Bill" Duncan.

The funeral service was held Monday, October 22, at the Stith Funeral Home, Danville, with Rev. Ernest Martin and Rev. Doug Wesley. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family requests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society or the American Kidney Foundation.

RICHARD ELDER

Richard Dale Elder, 59, of Junction City, passed away Friday, October 19, 2007, at his residence.

Born Friday, May 28, 1948, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Otis and Pearl Maupin Elder.

He was a heavy equipment operator for Claunch Excavating.

Survivors include: two sons, Brian (Melissa) Elder of Parksville, and Brad Elder of Junction City; four brothers, Hubert Elder of Junction City, Clysten and Les Elder, both of Danville, and Melvin Elder of Burgin; a sister, Lena Cross of Danville; and three grandchildren, Hannah, Bradley and Ashley Elder.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Delbert Elder and one sister, Ruth Wilson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 23, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Burial was in Wilson-Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wade Wilson, Gragg Lunsford, Carlos Hafley, Delbert Elder, Cecil Neikirk, Randell West, Arthur Ray Cox, and James Wilburn, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Cliff Shafer, Nicholas Wilburn, Earl Ray Cox, and Michael Paul Belcher.

Memorials are suggested to Heritage Hospice of Danville.

LINDA JAVID

Linda Javid, 45, wife of Vahid "V. J." Javid, died Wed Oct 17, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born in New Orleans, LA, she was the daughter of Grover C. and Jimmie S. Farris of Harrodsburg.

Mrs. Javid was a graduate of Mississippi State University. She was formerly employed at the Jockey Club and had been the Administrator for the Thoroughbred Farm Manager's Club. She was an avid antique dealer and a member of Southland Christian Church.

Survivors, other than her husband and parents, include: a son, Samuel Javid of Lexington; a daughter, Catherine Javid, also of Lexington; a brother, Gary Farris of Bellechase, LA; and a sister, Sherie Farris of Garland, TX.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 20, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd, Lexington. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

EVA PATRICK

Eva Lucille Pennington Patrick, 68, died Thursday, October 18 at the home of her daughter in Mt. Sterling.

Born November 7, 1938 in Woodford County, she was a daughter of the late John and Carrie Lane Pennington.

She was a long time member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Versailles.

Survivors include: five daughters, Rita (Gary) Ray of Mt. Sterling, Debbie Collins and Jackie (James) Gullette, both of Harrodsburg, Doris Osborne of Prestonsburg, Faye Collins of Versailles; three sons, Rodney Patrick of Lexington, Willie Collins and Mike Collins, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Gladys Pettyjohn and Flora Bell Smith, both of Versailles, 19 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Mary Ellen Wright and Louise Wethington, and two brothers, Kenneth Pennington and Cecil Pennington, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 22, at the Church of God of Prophecy, Versailles. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.
