ROBERT HAWKINS SR.

Robert W. Hawkins Sr. died Monday, November 19, 2007 in Harrodsburg.

Born August 15, 1946, in Illinois, he was a son of the late William “Jack” and Ellen Strevels Hawkins. He was the husband of Phyllis Clark Hawkins.

He was an employee of the Boyle County school system, a member of Parksville Christian Church, an active Civil War re-enactor, an avid woodsman and hunter, and active in the annual Scottish Games at Barren River in Glasgow.

Other survivors include: two sons, Robert Hawkins Jr. of Nicholasville, Timothy Luke (Kimberly) Hawkins of Perryville; a daughter, Ramona Gayle Hawkins of Stanford; and two grandchildren, Bethany Gayle and Levi Davis Redmon.

Two grandchildren preceded him in death, Timothy Luke Hawkins Jr. and Tristan Danielle Hawkins.

A memorial service was held Friday, November 23, at Parksville Christian Church by Frank Preston. Burial was in Parksville Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Parksville Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.

Wilder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

VIRGIE LAYTON

Virgie Mae Montgomery Layton, 91, died Nov. 27, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born November 15, 1916, in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late Isaac Day and Bertie Pollard Montgomery.

She was a clerk at Powell’s Grocery in Lancaster, an avid gardener who loved her flowers, and a member of Hedgeville Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her son, James H. Layton, a brother, Robert Montgomery, and two sisters, Florence Estes and Edna Belle Estes.

Survivors include: three sons, J. D. (Anna) Layton of Danville, Vance (Mildred) Layton of Harrodsburg, and Russell (Judy) Layton of Somerset; a daughter-in-law, Doris Layton of Rome, GA; a sister, Osie Williams of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Eddie Layton, Cindy Corcoran Hammond, Corey Layton, Chris Layton, Merriann Hiett, Jeffrey Layton, Mark Layton and Michael Layton; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 30, in Bellevue Cemetery by the Rev. Elby Frost.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the Stith Funeral Home in Danville.

ANNA LONG

Anna Marie Parrott Long, 89, of Louisville, died Saturday Nov. 24, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

A native of Washington County, she was the widow of the late Henry C. Long.

She was a 50 year member of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church where she belonged to the Fidelis Sunday School Class.

Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Hendren; one sister, Ressie Lash; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life was held Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007 at the Southern Home of Arch L. Heady & Son. Burial was in Louisville Memorial Gardens West.

Memorial gifts may be made to Heritage Hospice of the Bluegrass, or the Gideon’s.

JOYCE MAY

Joyce Marie Sewell May, 76, widow of David Garland May Jr., died Thursday November 22, 2007.

She was born July 9, 1931 in Harrodsburg, to the late Charles Raymond and Mary Linney Sewell.

Survivors include: a daughter, Nicole May (Gary) Spann-Danville; a son, David Garland (Kathy) May III, Wilmore, four grandchildren and other family members.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Spring May Morgan.

Graveside services were held Monday, November 26, in Wilmore Cemetery with Dr. Glen Spann officiating.

Bearers were Gary, Nicholas and Nolan Spann, Garland May, Bobby and Alex Morgan.

MARVIN MONTGOMERY

Marvin Montgomery, 73, of Paducah, formerly of Lawrenceburg, died Nov. 22, 2007 at Lourdes Hospital.

Born June 24, 1934 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Denton and Helen Beatrice Phillips Montgomery.

He was a member of the Paducah First Baptist Church, a licensed Real Estate Broker and Owner of Montgomery Real Estate. He was a graduate of Salvisa High School, Georgetown College and Southern Baptist Seminary. He was also an ordained Baptist Minister and a retired teacher from Paducah Tilghman High School.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alma Jean Slucher Montgomery of Paducah; a brother, Allen Montgomery of Salvisa; two nieces and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, and visitation 12 – 2 Sat. at Lone Oak Chapel, Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Paducah.)

Graveside services were held Monday, Nov. 26, at Lawrenceburg Cemetery with Rev. Sanford K. Hill officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 7100, Paducah, KY 42002-7100.

The Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

MARSHALL PHILLIPS

Marshall Phillips, 69, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007 at his residence.

Born Sept. 18, 1938 he was the son of the late Reed and Stella Smith Phillips.

Survivors include brothers, sisters and nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held at the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ANNA ROGERS

Anna Mae Rogers, 77, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born July 10, 1930 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Freda Pulliam Snow and was the widow of Robert Rogers.

She had been a Shakertown employee and enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include: one son, Richard Schmiers of Stanford; three daughters, Evelyn Ward of Corbin, Sharon Goode of Danville and Barbara Hall of Middleburg; one sister, Helen Gass of Stanford; twelve grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Roberts and Alma Lee Tinsley and one brother, Ernest Ray Snow.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with David Noe officiating. Burial was in the K. P. Hall Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Ward, Jeff Snow, Michael Simmons, Danny Cross, Carey Stafford and Robert Price.

BRENDA STIGLICH

Brenda Royalty Stiglich, 61, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2007 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 20, 1946 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Elwood and Mary Will Brown Royalty and was the wife of Don Wayne Stiglich.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church where she taught the Youth Sunday School Class for 35 years and was a member of the choir.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Malissa (David) Thompson of Harrodsburg; one son, Dennis (Pam) Stiglich of Georgetown; two brothers, Clifford (Bonnie) Royalty of Lawrenceburg and Donald (Brenda) Royalty of Harrodsburg and five grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 26 at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Brian Burkehead and John David Lay officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell Baptist Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul Wilson, Carl VanArsdall, David Chumley, Rodney Thompson, Connie Darland, Steven Royalty, Ricky Royalty, and Wendell Johnson.

MARGARET TAYLOR

Margaret Elizabeth Taylor, 86 , of Xenia, Ohio passed away Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Greene Memorial Hospital in Ohio.

She was born March 21, 1921 in Crab Orchard, to the late Leonard and Martha Broughton Martin.

She had been a resident for the last 18 months at Greenewood Manor. She had been a school teacher. She was a member of the East Dayton Baptist Church and attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Xenia. She was a former member of the OES and loved the Super 60s at the Xenia Church of Christ.

Margaret is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Wilson and Jerry E. Johnson of Xenia, OH; one granddaughter, Melanie (Todd) Davis of Xenia, OH; great-granddaughters, Missy and Mindy Davis of Xenia, OH; two half sisters, Jewell Gaston of Gastonia, NC and Eunice Jones of Salvisa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Andrew Taylor, sisters, Betty Noland, Mae Worek and Josephine Lawson, and brothers, Leonard "Jiggs" Martin, Jr. and Robert M. Martin, and a half brother, Cecil Martin.

Funeral service was held Friday, November 23, 2007 at the McKnight Funeral Home Chapel in Crab Orchard. Burial was in Crab Orchard Cemetery

Visitation will be prior to the funeral on Friday, beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

MARVIN TERHUNE

Marvin Terhune, 90, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Aug. 6, 1917 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Harvey and Mattie (Jenkins) Terhune and was the widower of Loretta Coslow Terhune.

He owned and operated Terhune Auto Sales in Harrodsburg for many years and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Joann (Eugene) Milburn, Jeannie Warner and Linda (Larry) Lance all of Harrodsburg; three granddaughters, Lisa Breeze, Leanna Barnett and Debi Carter; three grandsons, Donnie Hampton, Greg Warner and Bradley Milburn and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Nov. 28 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donnie Hampton, Greg Warner, Bradley Milburn, Chad Barnett, Johnny Breeze and Larry Lance.

Memorial contributions may be made to ROC-Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

DORIS WALKER

Doris B. Walker, 81, of Vicksburg Drive, Nicholasville, died Wednesday, November 21, at her home.

A native of Jessamine County she was born May 7, 1926, to the late Shannon and Addie Stipe Blankenship.

She was a member of the Bryantsville United Methodist Church and retired after 46 years from Old Fitzgerald Distillery where she was the office manager. She was a member of the Women's Association Alcoholic Beverage , Inc. for many years.

Survivors include: her husband John A. Walker, her children Linda (Jim) Baker, Bryantsville, Mark (Susie) Ballard, Bryantsville, Lola (David) Proctor, Harrodsburg, Steve (Juanita) Ballard, Bryantsville, Paul Dean Ballard, Charlotte Cox, Bryantsville, three step daughters, Paula Christopher, Vicki Graham, and Jane Graham; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren, and a special nephew Kevin Corman.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Perkins and Ann Corman, a great grandson, Justin Helton, two nephews, Chris Corman and Shannon Sherrow.

Services were held Monday, November 26, at the Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Darren Gillespie. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandsons and nephew Kevin Corman.

Honorary bearers were Ann and Frank Corman, Paul and Blanche Ballard, Jessie Ray Herzog, Tom East, JoAnn Marsee, Katherine Clark, Brenda and Breacher Smith, and special neighbors Ray and Dawn Erwin, and Angie.
