BEULAH BUGG

Beulah Fae Bugg, 92, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008.

Born Nov. 26, 1915 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George and Cordelia Claunch Durr and was the widow of Edward Bugg.

She was a former cafeteria employee of Rose Hill and Mercer County schools and a member of the Bruner’s Chapel Church.

Survivors include: four sisters, Denia Norton, Beatrice Gritton, Melvina Cheatham, and Virginia Robertson of Harrodsburg; four brothers, William Durr, Morris Durr of Harrodsburg, Leslie Durr of Mercer County and Chandler Durr of Ginesville, FL and several nieces & nephews.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with David Crow and Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Robertson, Jeff Robertson, William Morris Durr, Lynn D. Durr, George Cheatham, Joe Cheatham, Leslie Andrew Norton and Roy Durr.

SHARON FREDRICK

Sharon Kay Fredrick, 58, of Lexington, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at her home.

Born Nov. 18, 1949 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Lucy Gay Stone Francis.

She was a caregiver.

Survivors include: one daughter, Cecilia Kay Smith of Harrodsburg; two sons, Thomas Wayne Coffman of Harrodsburg and William Lloyd Poynter, Jr. of Washington County; one brother, Cecil Francis, III. of Harrodsburg; step father, Cecil Francis of Salvisa and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Lee Fredrick and William Thomas Fredrick, Jr.

Funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the Hillcrest Memorial Park with Terry Morrison officiating.

Memorials suggested to be made to the Humane Society.

SUE JACKSON

Sue A. Jackson, 91, 570 of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born May 2, 1916 in Lebanon, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Annie Wright Murphy and was the widow of Lowell Jackson.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Betty (J.L.) Devine of Harrodsburg; two sons, Donnie (Charlotte) Jackson and Tommy (Jane) Jackson, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Pearl Meredith of Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandchild, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wayne Jackson, Todd Devine, Mike Voris, Mike Doyle, Austin Jackson and Gerhardt Roos.

Honorary pallbearers were Tony Pinkston, John Lee Meredith, Ron Bradford, Jim Hicks, Levi Jackson, Michael Jackson, Jeremy Jackson, Jonathan Taylor and Seth Voris.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ellers Memorial Baptist Church, 446 Cogar Ave., Harrodsburg, KY.

GILBERT JONES

Gilbert L. Jones, 81, died Wednesday January 16, 2008 at Golden Living nursing home.

Born March 21, 1926, he was the son of the late Charlie and Nannie Mae Brummett Jones.

He was a truck driver for Carnation Milk Co. for 17 years, and also drove for Stanford Ready Mix and Lincoln County Ready Mix.

Survivors include: his wife, Maonia Shannon Jones; three sons, Gilbert Jones Jr., Tom Jones and Charles Leonard Jones, all of Lexington; a grandson, Warren (Debbie) Bottoms of Somerset; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Mikayla Bottoms; two brothers, Paul Jones and Charles Jones, both of Stanford; five sisters, Nellie Denny, Lois Ann Carrier of Lancaster, Eula Parks of Lexington, Beulah Garner of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Arvina Fowler of Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 19, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford by Rev. Max Hester. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arnold Stogsdill, J. B. Burton, Robert Elkins, Deward Jeffries, Warren Bottoms and Jeff Ritzler.

Honorary bearers were members of Stanford Baptist Church Men's Sunday School class.

Memorials may go to Alzheimer's Association.

CAROLYN NEAL

Carolyn Joyce Neal, 73, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 at her home.

Born June 17, 1934 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late George and Pearl Cassity Haddix.

Survivors include: one sister Barbara Faye Haddix Sallee of Harrodsburg; one brother, Roy Mitchell Haddix of Harrodsburg and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rita J. Smith and three brothers, Kenneth, George and Leland Haddix.

Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25 at the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Lexington with Ralph and Rodney Sallee officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carpenters Christian Church Building Fund.

CECIL PERKINS

Cecil Perkins, 86, of Milton, formerly of Mercer County, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at the University of Louisville Medical Center.

Born Feb. 14, 1921 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Louis Melt and Frankie Ellen Meadors Perkins and was the widower of Mildred King Perkins.

He served in with the U.S. Army during WWII and was a retired journeyman electrician. He was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church and attended Milton Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Cecile (Doug) Martin of Lexington and Phyllis Gayle (Ferrill) Davis of Milton; one sister, Mae Simms of Burgin and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Michelle Martin and Paige Davis.

The funeral was Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Ronnie Grimes, Ray Davis, Rob Davis, Earl Campbell, David Perkins and Jason Martin.

Honorary pallbearers were Ferrill Davis and Lee Sharp.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Milton Baptist Church Building Fund, 10076 Highway 421 North, Milton, KY 40045.

MARGARET WHALEN

Margaret Lou Whalen ,92, widow of Charles T. Whalen , died Tuesday January 15, 2008.

She is survived by: two sons, Thomas G. Coffman, Lexington and Edward G. (Kay)Coffman, Chesterfield, MI; a daughter Norma W. Shely, Lexington; stepchildren, Carolyn (Don) Shields , Paris, and Eugene (Daisy) Whalen, Cynthiana; one brother, Guy C. Phillips, Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Friday, January 18, at the W.R. Milward- Southland.

SYLVIA WHITT

Sylvia Beatrice Johnson Whitt, 93, widow of E. P. Whitt, Sr. of Brodhead, passed away, Thursday, January 17th, 2008 at the Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation Facility in Brodhead.

She was born February 2, 1914 in Mechanicsburg, OH; a daughter of the late Andrew Johnson and Zella Higgens Johnson.

She had been a member of the homemakers, was a member of the Brodhead Baptist Church, and enjoyed W.M.U., as well as teaching Sunday school.

Survivors include her children: Louise Donahue of Lexington; Sam (Judy) Whitt of Proctorville, OH; E. P. (Lorraine) Whitt, Jr. “Pat” of LaCrescenta, CA; Linda (John) Glovak of Salyersville; and Lawson (Toddy) Whitt of Burgin; 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E. P. Whitt, Sr., two grandchildren and one sister, Elizabeth Smith.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 21, at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals, Brodhead, with Bro. Don Jones officiating. Burial was in Piney Grove Cemetery in Brodhead.

MARY WILLOUGHBY

Mary Ann Cutter Turpin Willoughby, 91, Junction City died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born May 10, 1916 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Edna Baxter Cutter and was the widow of Virgil Turpin and Bill Willoughby.

She was a member of Alum Springs Church of God and the Love of God Ministries.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mildred Jean (Avorn) Reynolds of Junction City; one sister, Geneva Duke of Lancaster; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Albert and Junior Cutter and three sisters, Alpha Douglas, Pearl Douglas and Inez Rogers.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Himes officiating. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tim Reynolds, Randall Reynolds, Kenneth Reynolds Sr., Kenneth Reynolds Jr., T.J. Reynolds and Sammy Reardon.

Honorary pallbearers were Wayne Stevens, Ronnie Reardon Sr., Ronnie Reardon Jr., Anthony Reardon, Michael Mesman, Charlie Griffith and Joe Higdon.

PAULA YOUNG

Paula L. Young, 52, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 at the UK Medical Center after a long illness.

Born Jan. 28, 1955 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Young and Grace P. Bess.

She was a 1974 graduate of Harrodsburg High School where she was selected as “Most Athletic” during her senior year. She was a member of the St. Peter AME Church where she was also a member of the Women’s Ministry and Lay Organization.

Survivors include: one sister, Gracie Allen of Harrodsburg; three step-sisters, Mary Agnes Young, Arnessa Gale Young and Annetta Young Bartleson, all of Harrodsburg; three step-brothers, Leroy Anthony Young of Danville, Danny Lee Young and Alfred Thomas Young, both of Harrodsburg and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside were held Wednesday in the Maple Grove Cemetery with Bro. Ralph Smith officiating.. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

The Parks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
