GUY PHILLIPS

Guy Clinton Phillips, 98, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 22, 1909 in Anderson County, he was the son of the late William H. and America Bell Carter Phillips and was the widower of Elettra Jean Sims Phillips.

He served in the Army during World War II, was an assistant maintenance engineer at Good Samaritan Hospital and a life member of the V.F.W Post 4075 in Frankfort.

Survivors include: three sons, Carl Clinton Phillips of Locust Grove, VA, Richard Guy Phillips of Frankfort and Monty Buel Phillips of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Richard McKinley officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kevin Perkins, Rick Phillips, Kyle Phillips, Glenn Devine, Joseph Johnston and LeMayne Ellis.

Donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, American Diabetes. Association or the National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky.

IMOGENE REED

Imogene Devine Reed, 80, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born Aug. 7, 1927 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Murlie Hellard Devine and was the wife of Calvin D. Reed.

She was a member of the Springfield Christian Church and was a graduate of Cornishville High School.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Kathy (Bill) Smith of Palmyra, IN; one son, Keith (Jackie) Reed of Springfield; a sister, Helen (James) Jenkins; four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 30 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Burnice Richardson and Bro. Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Smith, Charlie Woodson, Terry Russell, Jerry Darland, Willie Cheser and Keith Matherly.

Carey and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

BILLY ROBINSON

Billy Robinson, 89, of North Point, FL, died January 12, 2008.

He was born in Salvisa on March 9, 1918.

He lived in Lawrenceburg and owned Robinson's Jewelry Store on Main Street. In 1961 he and his family moved to Port Charlotte, FL.

He was a pilot in the Army Air Corps, after which he became a watchmaker and owned Robinson's Jewelry in Punta Gorda, Fla. He was a member of the Punta Gorda Country Club, the Eagles, the Elks, and American Legion Post 103.

He is survived by: his wife, Nell Crossfield Robinson; two daughters Melody Naskale of North Port and Marlene (Stanley) Sims of Woodstock, GA; one son, Billy Robinson of Sarasota, FL; two sisters Hadgie Royalty of Louisville and Gladys Wathan of Salvisa; grandchildren, Daryl Naskale and his wife, Eve, Christopher Naskale and his wife, Angie, Andrew Wanda and his wife, Ferah, Julie LeCher and her husband, Jamie, great-grandchildren, Victoria and Christopher Naskale.

A graveside service with military honors was held January 16 at Indiana Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda.

Memorials are suggested as donations to Tidewell Hospice, 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34228.

ETHEL SANDERS

Ethel Howard Sanders, 89, of Mt. Vernon, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 at the Rockcastle Hospital after a long illness.

Born Oct. 15, 1918 in Brodhead, she was the daughter of the late Jim L. and Margaret Brummett Howard and was the widow of Tennel Sanders.

She was a member of New Hope Church of God.

Survivors include: one daughter, Kathleen (William) Payne of Mt. Vernon; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Carl Loren Sanders, two brothers and six sisters.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals Chapel, with Bro. Cecil Roundtree officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roger Dale Sanders, B.J. Sanders, Patrick L. Gillespie, Danny Ray Sanders, David Ray McKnight and Wesley K. Douglas.

ELLEN SEELYE

Ellen Marie Bauer Seelye, 76, Lexington, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 31, 2008.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Ellen (Gregory) Drake; Lexington, Richard Marshall (Debbi) Seelye, Jr. ; Peachtree City, GA and Barbara Ann Seelye (Michael Cassidy); Ridgway, CO.; three grandchildren, Marshall, Zachary and Kelsey; five step-grandchildren and one great step-granddaughter; two brothers, C. Franklin Bauer; Chagrin Falls, OH and Russell R. Bauer (Joan) Versailles and the family of F.G. Dempsey of Harrodsburg, Midway and Lexington.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Marshall Seelye.

Services were held Monday February 4, at The Cathedral of Christ The King.

While there was no visitation before the Christian services, the family celebrated Ellen Seelye’s life, after the burial at Lexington Cemetery, with food and fellowship at Hehman Hall at Christ the King.

In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or St. Jude Hospital, tribute # 20660217.

GWENDLYN SNOWDEN

Gwendlyn C. Snowden, 61, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 in Harrodsburg.

Born July 23, 1946 in Yakima, WA, she was the wife of Darryl Snowden.

She was a homemaker and caregiver.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, David Eric Snowden of Danville and Darryl Snowden, Jr. of Harrodsburg and one grandson, Gage Aiden Snowden.

A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

LUTHER TRAYNOR

Luther Austin Traynor, 83, husband of Mary Horn Traynor, died Wednesday January 30, 2008 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Luther and Sadie Perkins Trayner.

Mr. Traynor was a retired Lexington Police Officer and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, David (Cathey) Traynor, Lexington and Dennis (Valerie) Traynor, Jessamine County; a granddaughter, Michelle Traynor, Lexington; four brothers, Ronald Trayner, Midway, Rev. Morris Trayner, Danville, Howard Trayner, Washington County, and Lynn Trayner, Wilmington, OH; three sisters, Helen Wade, Lexington, Mary Alice McDonald, Greenville, SC, and Doris Carey, Louisville.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Sherman Trayner.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 2, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504 or Grace Baptist Building Fund, 811 Bryan Ave., Lexington, KY 40505.

T. C. CLAUNCH

T. C. Claunch, 66, died Friday, Feb. 08, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Feb. 12, 1941 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Willie B. and Rosemary Devine Claunch and was the husband of Patsy Cummins Claunch.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and the U.S. Army Reserves, the American Legion, a member of the Grace Baptist Church where he also served as Elder, was a Kentucky Colonel, was retired Supervisor and Department Head at Corning Glass after more than thirty four years, and was presently working at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

He was very active in Mercer County Schools Sports, where he had also served on many committees with the school system and had been involved in Little League Basketball for sixteen years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Todd (Chris) Claunch of Harrodsburg; four daughters, Carmen (Chris) Souder of Harrodsburg, Marta (Brandon) Robins of Harrodsburg, April (Joe) Pellegrino of Wiesbaden, Germany and Michelle (Lynn) Russell of Burgin; eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelli Claunch, half brother Tony Claunch, step-brother Carroll Hurst,and step mother Grace Russell Hurst Claunch.

The funeral was held Monday, Feb. 11 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Collier and Bro. Bill Eldridge officiating. Burial with military Honors was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dion Long, Travis Long, Dantley Long, Jeff Anderson, Michael Anderson, Josh Devine, Gary Tomblin and Jimmy Ray Claunch.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Mercer Relay For Life, P.O. Box 411, Harrodsburg, Ky 40330 and/or the T.C. Claunch Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 253, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

military RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted military rites for T. C. Claunch at Spring Hill Cemetery Feb. 11, 2008.

Those attending were Curtis Sherrow, Joe Harlow, Floyd Shirley, Lucian Landers, Allan Teele and Howard H. Howells Sr.

Zenah Teater III served as bugler.

Army representatives from Fort Knox were SSG Hector E. Ferran and SSG Joseph A. Core.

RUSSELL CLEMONS

Russell Lee Clemons, Sr., 61, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, February 9, 2008.

He was a son of the late Raymond and Bertha Clemons.

He retired from Normandy Farm after 28 years.

He is survived by: five children, Angela Clemons and her fiancé Danny Maddix, Nicholasville, Russell Clemons, Jr., Nicholasville, Tina (Henry) Thurman, Lexington, Donald Clemons, Marion County and Derek Clemons, Lexington; eight grandchildren; a sister, Darlene (Larry) Sims; two brothers, Devaungh Clemons, and Mark Clemons.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Clemons.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 13, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington, by Rev. Ronnie Hupp. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

MARGARET COLE

Margaret Sharp Cole, 87, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born October 14, 1920 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late James Stillwell and Lydia Brown Sharp Sr. and was the widow of Kenneth A. Cole.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Southside Christian Church in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Nadine Cole of Harrodsburg and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Sharp and James Stillwell Sharp, Jr.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Mark Webb and Bro. Larry Camic officiating. Burial was in Kirkwood Cemetery.
