ROSELLA LAWSON

Rosella Shewmaker Lawson, 77, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at St. Joseph East in Lexington.

Born May 1, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Effie Mae Yeast Shewmaker and was the wife of Marvin Lawson.

She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Danville.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Marvin Lynn (Julia) Lawson of Interlachen, FL; three daughters, Deborah (Hubert) Peavler, Darlene (Eddie) Bast and Marlene (Ronnie) McGrath, all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Elva Oldham of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Merlin Shewmaker and two sisters, Ethia Bussell and her twin, Marcella Burns.

The funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Jason Clark officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mark Eastman, Adam Curtsinger, Matthew McGrath, Michael Ryan, Tommy Barnett, Stephanie McGrath and Patrick Bast.

Honorary pallbearers were her great grandchildren.

EVELYN MATTINGLY

Evelyn Young Mattingly, 74, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 26, 1933 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William Elwood Young and Mattie Frances Elliott Votaw and was the wife of J.W. Mattingly.

She was retired from Modine and a member of the Harrodsburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, Jack Mattingly and Steve Mattingly, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Nancy Yeast and Norma Martin, both of Harrodsburg; four granddaughters and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Young and one brother-in-law, Kenny Martin.

The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Richard Hughes and Bro. Robert Barton officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Mattingly, Steve Mattingly, Scott Sheperson, Travis Stephens, Danny Rawlings and Shawn Brodeur.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

OPAL MCQUILLIAM

Opal Louise McQuilliam, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Hutchinson Hospital in Hutchinson, KS.

Born Jan. 6, 1923 in Hutchingson, KS, she was the daughter of Ola E. and Minnie A. Taylor Williams and was the widow of Charles Price McQuilliam.

She was a secretary for the First Baptist Church were she was also a member and was a regular volunteer at the Thrift Shop in Lyons, KS.

Survivors include: two sons, Charles T. McQuilliam of Harrodsburg and Michael E. McQuilliam of Larned, KS; five daughters, Karon Randolph of Sebring, FL, Janice Schierling of Inman, KS, Cynthia Koehn of McPherson, KS, Marsha Dennston of Philippi, WV and Louis Allen of Lyons, KS; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith A. Williams and Paul L. Williams and a sister, Geneva Mae Jack.

The funeral was held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at the Birzer-Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons, KS. Burial was in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson, KS.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Gideon Bible International or the Cornerstone Day Care in Lyons, KS.

DELIA MILLER

Delia Miller, 74, of Salvisa, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

She was born March 10, 1933, in Rockcastle County, daughter of the late John and Mary Jane Gadd Miller.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: two sons, Charles (Mary) Miller and Mike (Pauline) Miller, both of Stamping Ground; five daughters, Irene (Henry) Knight, of Salvisa, Millie (Stan) Blackburn, of Grant County, Connie Shyrock, of Harrodsburg, Brenda (Jessie) Lewis, of Stamping Ground, and Loretta (George) Wright, of Georgetown; five brothers; two sisters; 24 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Walker Miller, a son, Danny Miller, four brothers and four sisters.

Services were held Friday, Feb. 15, at the Harrod Brothers Funeral Home in Stamping Ground, with Rev. Danny Broce officiating.

Burial was in Masonic Cemetery in Stamping Ground.

Casket bearers were Henry Knight, Stan Blackburn, John Holder, Alonzo Miller, Robert Kidwell and Shawn Miller.

VIOLA PITTMAN

Viola Langford Pittman, 74, died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Mack and Bessie Langford and was the widow of James. T. Pittman.

She was a graduate of Bate High School, a member of St. Peter A.M.E. and was retired from Eaton Heaters.

Survivors include: one son, James M. Pittman of Harrodsburg; one sister, Lucille Langford of Danville and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Darnell T. Pittman, two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the St. Peter A.M.E. in Harrodsburg.

Smith-Jackson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

ALBERT PREWITT

Albert Prewitt Jr., 57, of 3095 Shakertown Road, Danville, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at his home.

Born December 21, 1950 in Danville, he was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth Brim and Albert Prewitt Sr.

He was a farmer and worked for Fred Cain and Gary Gilbert. Albert was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Janice Hunt Prewitt; two daughters, Tracy Dean Ziesmer, Danville, and Monica Gayle (Johnathan) Grizzell, Hustonville; a son, Steven Todd (Joanne) Prewitt, Perryville; one sister, Gayle Prewitt, Harrodsburg, one brother Frank (Joyce) Prewitt, Danville; seven grandchildren, Kaitlin and Hannah Ziesmer, Allison, Mya, and Bailey Grizzell; Chloe and Clayton Prewitt; and a step grandson, Tyler Watts.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, February 22, at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Harold Best, Rev. Johnathan Grizzell, and Rev. Donald Owens. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be B. F. Adams, Will Ziesmer, Gary Gilbert , Ray Price, Jimmy Denny and Robbie Bates.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Lair, Jim Grizzell, Harry Sims, Joe Noel, Thomas Bandeis Jr., Woody Hunt, Ray Hunt, R.C. Robinson and grandchildren.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at the church.

The family requests memorial donations be sent to Heritage Hospice.

Stith Funeral Home, Danville, is in charge of arrangements.

WALTER RHODUS

Walter Rhodus, 94, of Harrodsburg, died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2008.

Born in Madison County, he was the husband of Mary Noland Rhodus.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Wayne (Una) Noland and David (Dawn) Rhodus; one daughter, Sue Etta Caudill; four sisters, Addie Frazier, Nanny Reid, Katherine Weston and Sarah Rowe; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at the Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral home in Richmond. Burial was in Madison Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Denis Mullally, Darren Caudill, Dillion Rhodus, Jeff Noland, John Noland, Scot Noland, Clay Noland and Caleb Noland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice, 11500 Northlake Dr., Ste 400, Cincinnati, Oh 45249.

Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

SASSYMAY RICE

Sassymay Lynn Ann Rice, Infant, died on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville.

She was the daughter of Patrick and Sue Ann Moore Rice.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: three sisters, Shady Jane, Treyci and Ashlee Rice; three brothers, Dillon and Lucus Dearinger and Joshua Lantern; maternal grandparents, Patricia Osbourn and Robert and Nancy Moore; paternal grandfather, David Rice; maternal great grandmother, Kathleen Rucker and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a grandmother, Ada Rice.

The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 with Bro. King officiating. Interment was in Rose Crest Cemetery in Versailles.

Blackburn and Ward Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

RUTH WALDRIDGE

Ruth Frances Waldridge, 64, Bardstown, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at the residence of her daughter in Holy Cross.

She was a native of Nelson County, a daughter of the late parents, George Albert and Otha Mae Case Hellard.

Shea homemaker, a former employee of the old Springfield Sewing Factory and a member of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Rene’ Waldridge.

Survivors include: her husband, Robert Waldridge; two daughters, Yvette Oliver and Gail Nation, both of Holy Cross; a son, Robert Waldridge Jr., New Haven; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Pauline Davenport, Shelbyville, and Brenda Collier, Harrodsburg; and a half-brother, George Hellard, Lawrenceburg.

The funeral was held Thursday, February 14, at the Houghlin Funeral Home with burial in Fairview Cemetery, Anderson County. Brother Claude Waldridge officiated.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the family for funeral expenses.

Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HAZEL WATTS

Hazel Lee Watts, 95, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Dec. 10, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Lafe and Sally Oldham Harlow and was the widow of Lebus Watts.

She was a retired waitress and cook from Murphy’s Truck Stop and Stone Manor and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Jeanetta (William) Lane of Harrodsburg; three sons, Stanley R. Watts, Earl (Anna) Watts and Ronald D. Watts all of Harrodsburg; ten grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, two step-great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held. Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Burkhead officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Kirkland, James Ashford, Daniel Moore, Jim McMurtrie, Michael Vah and Eugene Warner.

Honorary pallbearers were her great grandchildren.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
