SARAH PHILLIPS

Sarah Lee Pearl Phillips, 74, of 503 Fairway Drive, Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born June 11, 1933 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Wesley Howard and Flossie Bera Johnson Yocum.

She was a retired inspector for Corning Glass and a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Donna (Donald) T. Russell of Harrodsburg; one sister, Dortha B. Ward of Harrodsburg, Nieces: Lona Y. Reynolds and Vicki Y. Peavler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, February 29, at the Hopewell Baptist Church by John David Lane and Brian Burkhead. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 28, from 5-8 p.m. and Friday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

GLADYS RELEFORD

Gladys Shewmaker Releford, 87, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 13, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Sarah Robinson Shewmaker and was the widow of Grover C. Releford.

She was a retired Mercer County School Teacher, a graduate of Eastern State College and was a member of Cornishville Baptist Church where she served as historian, teacher and treasurer. She was also a member of the Kentucky Education Association and the Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include: one daughter, Hope (Aubrey) Releford McMullin of Mercer County; one son, Lee Howard (Trish) Releford of Mercer County; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren;three great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Jack Geurin, Bro. Mark King and Bro. Johnny Hockersmith officiating. Burial was in Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Phillip Releford, Fred Howard Releford, Tim Darland, Chris Darland, Marty McMullin and Greg Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were Traci Brown, Crystal Darland, Bonnie Carrey, Curry Brown and Courtney Brown.

DANIEL WHITE

Daniel Thomas White , 64, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 10, 1944 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Virgil and Minervia Jane Tewmey White and was the husband of Lola Miller White .

He was a barber, insurance salesman and a member of the Benton Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Survivors include one son, Tim White of Harrodsburg.

The funeral was held Tuesday, March 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Reverend James Harley officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gene Louallen, Jeff Blankenship, Drew Rice, Rich McGinnis, Johnnie Bailey, Eddie Sharp and Jerry Stratton.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of one’s choice.

CARLETON WILLIAMS

Carleton Shawn Ptolma Luttrell Williams, 2, of Somerset passed away Thursday, February 28, 2008 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.

He was born in Somerset on June 30, 2005 to Earl Luttrell and Misty Williams Coslow.

Carleton is survived by his mother, Misty (Dennis) Coslow, Somerset; his father, Earl (Becky) Luttrell, Russell Springs; a brother, Austin Cle Williams, Faubush; maternal grandparents, Buddy and Norma Williams, Faubush; paternal grandparents, Leslie and Gloradine Luttrell, Casey County; stepgrandparents, Chris and Sandra Hughes, Faubush, Tim and Christina Norris, Russell Springs, Dennis Hughes Sr. and Kathy Coslow, Harrodsburg; great-grandparents, Clero and June Williams, Faubush, Shinie and Geneva Luttrell, Casey County; two great-great-grandmothers, Jenny Banks, Garrett, Iris Collins, Knox Count; four step-brothers, Samuel Coslow, Lucas Coslow, Somerset, Jared Polston, and Jordan Polston, Russell Springs; three step-sisters, Emma Coslow, Angel Coslow, Somerset, and Jerice Polston, Russell Springs; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by a great-great-grandfather, Carson Collins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, at the Lakeside Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Bro. David King officiating. Interment will follow in Williams Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. until time of service at Lakeside Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Carleton Shawn Luttrell Williams Memorial Fund.

Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset is in charge of arrangements.

LONA ANGEL

Lona Mae Angel, 66, of Louisville, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville.

Born Feb. 3, 1942 in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Cornielus Jones Angel.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: her longtime companion, Don Hodges; two sons, Jimmy (Lois) Deatherage of Perryville and Tommy Deatherage of Cocoa, FL; four daughters, Jannie Milburn of Cocoa, FL, Lois (Billy) Whitaker of Burgin, Edith Cobb and Carolyn Angel, both of Indiana; one brother, Hubert Angel of Perryville; one sister, Almeda Webb; thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Russell Wayne Deatherage and a daughter, Juanita Deatherage.

The funeral was held Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Red Hill Cemetery in Livingston.

Pallbearers were Ralph Bayes, Patrick Sims, Justin Followell, Lois Whittaker, Billy Whittaker and Scooter Fortin.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

GEORGE BALLARD

George Thomas Ballard, 70, of Russell Springs died Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born March 6, 1937 in Madison County, he was the son of Ruth Ross Ballard of Harrodsburg and the late Robert Leeds Ballard. He was a farmer and a member of Lancaster Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Ballard; a sister, Nancy (Bob) McQuerry, Harrodsburg; a niece and four nephews.

Funeral services were heldMonday, February 4, 2008 at Bernard Funeral Home in Russell Springs, officiated by Rev. Carroll Egnew and Richie Smith. Burial was in Wolford Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Edward Jones, Dean Mann, Wally Sullivan, Mickey Garner, Charles Gore, Charles Edwards, Timmy Antle, and Eldridge Richards.

Honorary pallbearers were Tommy Sexton, Ken Jimmerson, Miles Roberts, Billy B. Selby, Brad Redmon, Danny Hughes, Ronald Hopper, Frankie Antle, and Rev. Jerry Smith.

HAROLD BENTLEY

Harold Clark Bentley, 65, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, March 7, 2008.

Born in Shelby County, he was the son of Mildred Bentley of Mt. Eden and the late Bernice Bentley.

He was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Mt. Eden. He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Anderson County Road Department and also had worked as a bulldozer operator for Anderson County Judge-Executive Jim Catlett. He was a Navy veteran of the Viet Nam War.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: one son, Brian Bentley of Lawrenceburg; three daughters, Danielle Bentley of Lawrenceburg, Rhonda Tribble of Salvisa and Christy Chilton of Lawrenceburg; one brother, Donnie Bentley of Mt. Eden and five grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday, March 11 at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Bro. Roy Temple, Jr. officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.

GRACE BLACK

Grace Boswell Black, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in Frankfort.

Born May 18, 1917 in Mackville, she was the daughter of Viva Taylor and M.A. Boswell and was the widow of Willie Black.

She was a member of Buck Run Baptist Church and attended Cull and Mackville schools where she also worked in the cafeteria for fifteen years.

Survivors include: one daughter, Barbara Black (Glen) Bottoms of Frankfort; four granddaughters, five grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and two sisters-in-law, Kaye Boswell of Springfield and Doris Boswell of Harrodsburg.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Clark Funeral Home with Dr. Hershel York, Rev. Todd Lester and Rev. Chuck Henderson officiating. Graveside Services will be at 12:30 p.m. at Mackville Cemetery.

Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Rose, Donald Darland, Carl Curtsinger, Brennan Boswell, Lennie Mattingly and Larry Boswell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, Frankfort or Frankfort Christian Academy.

PATRICIA BURKETT

Patricia Ann Burkett, 61, Lebanon, died March 3, 2008, at her residence.

Born December 27, 1946, in Parksville, Burkett retired from Country Kitchen in food preparation.

Survivors include: four daughters, Sandy Gill of Junction City, Beverly Douglas of Lebanon, Karen Burton of St. Mary and Elisha McClure of Harrodsburg; a stepson, Scott Lawson of Lebanon; a brother, Balford Henry Stevens Jr. of Eminence; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Roy Henry Burkett; parents, Balford and Margaret Leon Wilson Stevens; six brothers, Eugene, Cleve, David, Herbert, Arnold and Burrel Stevens; four sisters, Norah Beulah Whitehouse, Ruth Ellen Mathes and Julia Beatrice and Dorothy Stevens.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 5, at the Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, with burial in Lebanon National Cemetery. Rev. Darren Gillespie officiated and Rev. Bud Owen assisted.

Pallbearers were Tommy and Jerry Mathis, Eric, Chris and Rick Stevens and Tim McClure.

Bosley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES CARR

Charles Winfield Carr, 88, died Monday, March 10, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.

Born Jan. 7, 1920 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Sam and Era Coovert Carr and was the husband of Lynda Lee McGee Carr.

He was a mechanic and most recently he was a co-owner of Mercer Music Shop. He had served as a Harrodsburg City Commissioner from January of 1962 to July of 1970, was Mayor Pro-Tem in 1970 and served as Mayor from July of 1970 to December of 1973 and then was elected Mayor and served from January of 1978 to December of 1998. He was a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church where he was a Deacon and member of the Faith, Hope and Love Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Lonesome Buckaroos music group and was a 12 year volunteer at the Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

In adddition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Sam (Kathy) Carr of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Charla (Roger) Pratt of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren, Jordan Hummell, Kevin Lampson and Spencer Carr and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Hummell, a step-son, Lee Phillips, a brother, Buford Carr and a sister, Elsie Farnav.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be members of the Harrodsburg City Commission, Kevin Perkins, Jack Springate, Roger Pratt, Gerald Hummell, Bill Watts and Eddie Long.

Honoray pallbearers will be members of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church Faith, Hope and Love Sunday School Class and Jim Moseley.

Visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 7 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church Recreational Outreach Center, P.O. Box 286, Harrodsburg, Ky 40330.

FLORA FIELD

Flora Vivian Field, 73, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 20, 1934 in Owensboro, she was the daughter of the late Fred Vogel and Cora Vivian Taylor Hines and was the widow of Robert W. Field.

She was retired from General Electric in Owensboro and was employed as a historical interpreter at Shakertown at Pleasant Hill.

Survivors include: one brother, Fred Vogle Hines Jr. of Sag Harbor, NY and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
