PHILLIP GILVIN

Phillip Scott Gilvin, 30, of Georgetown, died Tuesday March 25, 2008 at the U. K. Medical Center.

He was the father of Cassidy Lynn Gilvin.

He was employed by Scott Gross Company of Lexington.

Other survivors include: four brothers, Michael, Joshua, Jonathan and Jacob Gilvin, all of Paris; grandparents, Gene and Jean Gilvin, Georgetown; aunts, Marchel (Gene) Kirk, Versailles and Ronda (Phillip) McClain, Harrodsburg; cousins, Kristina and Tina Kirk and Stacy and Tracy McClain, and two special friends, Loren and Lynn.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sheri Nell Gilvin and his uncle, Officer Douglas Gilvin.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 29, at the Johnson’s Funeral Home in Georgetown by Rev. Greg Gallaher and Rev. Chester Palmer. Burial was in Georgetown Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Ryan Lykins, Lynn Young, Jay Wells, Steve Fossier, Chris Parish and Brandon Henderson.

ANNA GRANT

Anna Lee Higdon Grant, 101, of Danville died Friday, March 28, 2008.

Born Sept. 16, 1906, she was the daughter of William Joseph and Elizabeth Ollie Pierce Higdon and was the widow of Samuel Benedict Grant.

She graduated from Mount St. Joseph School near Owensboro, retired from Montgomery Ward in Lexington and was a member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville where she was a housekeeper, member of the Altar Society and manager of the Amen Corner for many years.

Survivors include: four daughters, Leorita McDermott and Delores “Tiny” Young, Rosemary Tyree and Patricia Whitton; three sons, Harold Grant, Jerry Grant, and Charles Grant; one sister, Margaret; one half-sister, Mildred Meredith; twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Elaine Elder, a son, Marion William Grant, a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

The funeral was held Monday, March 31 at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Pallbearers were Jon McDermott, Mike Harmon, Jeff Whitton, Tony Young, Mark Grant, Doug Elder, Deron Grant, Charles McDermott, Steve Young, Chuck Grant and Marion Grant Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Stewart McDermott, Bill Whitton, Melvin Young, Mickey Harmon and Melvin Elder.

Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church or Heritage Hospice.

Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. .

LULA HOWARD

Lula Mae Howard, 76 of Pine Grove Road, Crab Orchard formerly of Perryville died Sunday, March 30th.

She was born March 28, 1932 in Crab Orchard, to the late Willie J. and Myrtle Hinds Adams. She was the wife of the late Joe Edward Howard whom she married on November 11, 1949 in Crab Orchard.

Howard was owner of the former H & H Produce in Perryville and Family Cuts and More in Stanford. She was currently the co-owner of Circle H. Farms in Crab Orchard. She was a former employee of Palm Beach Company and had worked private duty care for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and her flowers. She was a member of the Pine Grove Church of Christ.

She is survived by: two daughters, Dollie Moore of Stanford and Brenda (Frank) Hoeck of Crab Orchard; one son, Edward Howard, Jr. of Perryville; one sister, Bert Cahill of Sarasota, FL; five brothers, Earl (Joan) Adams of Frankfort, Jimmy Adams of Crab Orchard, Clifton (Cheryl) Adams of Crab Orchard, Kenneth (LaFonda) Adams of Liberty and Bobby Adams of OH; eight grandchildren, including Bobby Joe (Melissa) Howard and John Travis (Trina) Howard, both of Harrodsburg; 15 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Mack Adams, a sister, Betty Adams and two sons, Ricky L. Howard and Kelly "Ray" Howard.

Funeral service were held Wednesday, April 2, at the Ephesus Baptist Church with Bro. Chester Cornett and Brother Cecil Roundtree officiating. Burial was in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Travis Howard, Darrell L. Padgett, Charles Ray, Robert Martin, Michael Bradley and Robert Lee Martin.

Honorary bearers were Freeman Caldwell, Francis Denson, Stanley Burris, Darrell Carmen,

Ben Stutzman and Raymond Detweiler.

McKnight Funeral Home in Crab Orchard was in charge of arrangements.

HENRY JAMES

Henry L. James, 93, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Nov. 10, 1914 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Frank P. and Lula Grigsby Brown James and was the widower of Juanita Scott James.

He served during World War II in the Army and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Joseph Chapel Methodist Church.

Survivors include: three granddaughters, Carol Johnson of Arkansas, Christie James of Cincinnati, OH and Beverly James of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by a son, Harry Scott James and a sister, Wilma James.

The funeral was held Monday, March 31 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Gill Duffee officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ralph Morris, Larry Short, Lonnie Harley, Lonnie Jenkins, Larry Taylor, Dan Murphy, Frank Trisler, Doug Greenburg and Eddie Russell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

JEPTHA JETT

Jeptha Rayburn Jett, 83, died March 29, 2008.

Born Jan. 17, 1925 in Danville, he was the son of the late Jeptha Covington and Mabel Rayburn Sibley Jett and was the husband of Martha White Jett.

He was the owner of Farmer’s Supply Company of Danville which he operated for 38 years, retiring in 1986. A Danville High School graduate he attended Middlebury College, Vermont while in The U.S. Navy. After serving as an Ensign in the Navy for 3 years during World War II, he finished his education and graduated from the University of Kentucky. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and Alpha Zeta Honor Society. He was a member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church where he sang in the choir for many years and attended the Renfro Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Danville Rotary Club.

Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth S. Jett (JoAnn) of Waynesville, NC and Alan L. Jett (Shelley) of Louisville; one sister, Nancy Jett Dorsey of Durham, NC; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Angeline Jett Williams.

The funeral was held Wednesday, April 2 at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Valentine and Rev. Keith Stillwell officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Melissa Jett Hodges, Christopher Jett, Cory Jett, Shelby Jett, Andrew Jett, David White and Stephen White .

Honorary pallbearers were George White , Charles Bottorff, Calvin Whitt, Maynard Van Horn, Ted Monroe and the members of the Renfro Sunday School Class.

Memorials are suggested to Lexington Avenue Baptist Church or the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society.

SARA LESTER

Sara Frances Lester, 97, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born March 21, 1911 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Gertrude Sims Devine and was the widow of Hanley Lester.

She was retired from Cricketeer Mfg. Co. and a member of the Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Chloe (Connie) Horn; one son, William Winfield Lester of Harrodsburg; one sister, Mary Lawrence of Lancaster; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

The funeral was held Saturday, March 29 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with David Crow officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Charity of one’s choice

ESTILL LUTTRELL JR.

Estill Perry Luttrell, Jr., 27, of Willisburg, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 at his home in Willisburg.

Born March 12, 1981 in Lexington, he was the son of Estell P. and Rita Pittman Luttrell Sr.

He was a team member at T.G. Kentucky in Springfield.

Survivors include: one sister: Shawna Lee Luttrell of Lexington; maternal grandmother, Irene Baker of Harrodsburg; paternal grandmother, Alice Luttrell of Lexington and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral was held Wednesday, April 2 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Hillcrest Memorial Park, Lexington.

LORENE MILBURN

Lorene Trent Milburn, 70, of Springfield, died on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

Survivors include: two brothers, Marvin Trent of Willisburg and Earl Trent of Lebanon and three sisters, Evelyn Chesser of Springfield, Ruby Downs of Louisville and Margaret Settles of Willisburg.

The funeral was held Friday, March 28 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home. Burial was in the Bardstown Cemetery.

Carey and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

RAYMOND ORMSBY

Raymond Philip Ormsby, 50, of Westminister, CO, died Monday, March 24, 2008.

Born July 13, 1957 in Watertown, WI, she was the son of Barbara Crain of Harrodsburg and the late Warren Bruce Crain and was the husband of Sharon Ormsby.

He was a 1975 graduate of Boyle County High School and served in the U. S. Air Force for four years following graduation. He was employed by Cadbury Schweppes.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include: two sons, Mitchell and Nathan Ormsby; one daughter, Alix Ormsby of Westminster; twosisters, Jacque Koch of Castle Rock, CO and Michelle Douglas of Danville; two brothers, Chris W. Crain of Gravel Switch and Michael B. (Belinda) Crain of Frisco, TX and several neices and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Chad R. Crain.

A memorial service was held Friday, March 28 at Christ the King Episcopal Church in Arvada, CO. Interment was at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy, 1660 L. Street, NW, Suite 700, Washington , DC 20036 or to St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church, 118 Poplar St., Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

MINOR PHILLIPS

Minor Marvin Phillips, 75, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Jan. 14, 1933 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Ruben Welby and Jewell Bottom Phillips.

He was a former employee of the Harrod Theater, WHBN Radio Station and Ransdell Funeral Chapel where he was not only an employee but a member of the family. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as an usher.

He is survived by a number of cousins.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel withHarold Best and John David Lane officaiting. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Perryville.

Visitation Wednesday, April 2 from 5 – 8 p.m. and Thursday prior to the service at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
