AILEEN KLEIN

Aileen Klein, 82, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 23, 1925 in Perry County, she was the daughter of the late Thorton and Amie Campbell McDonald and was the widow of Dr. Daniel W. Klein.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: one brother, Rex (Polly) McDonald of Somerset; four nieces and five nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Brodt and Louise Cauble and one brother, Chester McDonald.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston, MN.

WANDA LANE

Wanda Mary Shirley Lane, 86, a resident of Mercer County all of her life, died Sunday evening, April 20, 2008, at the Haggin Memorial Extended Care.

She was born November 21, 1921, to the late Floyd and Laura Keightley Shirley, and married Thomas Elmer Lane on August 3, 1942. He preceded her in death by seven years.

She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church and also attended Ebenezer Church of Christ.

Survivors include: five sons, William Larry Lane, Bentley S. (Susan Logue) Lane, John David (Sandra McCroskey) Lane, all of Mercer County, and James Carter (Kathy Brinegar) Lane, DVM; grandchildren, Crystal (John) Hewitt, Cara Wallace, Coral (Danny) Cooney, Charity Cain, Angela (Joe) Warren, Windy Lane, Bentley Dax Lane, Clayton Alan Lane, Sherrie Sue (Donnie) Haase, Jonathan David Lane, Joseph Michael Lane, James Ryan Lane, Hannah Marie Lane, and Timothy Morgan Lane; great grandchildren, Robert Avery Wallace, Matthew Thomas Clark, Shelby Lane Cooney, Alexis Christine Warren, Lindsey Faith Warren, and Ellie Lane Haase; two step-brothers, Floyd Thomas (Leatrice) Shirley and David Lewis (Rita) Shirley; two step-sisters, Fannie Jane (Daryl) Pinkston and Brenda Maxine (Buddy) McCrystal; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Martha Carol Lane, a son, Thomas E. Lane Jr.; step-mothers, Druscilla Howard Shirley and Willa Lewis Shirley; and sisters, Martha (John) Nicely, Ruth (Calvin) Trisler, and Helen (Paul) Lewis.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 24, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by John David Lane, Brian Burkhead, John Kesel and Barry Jude. Burial will be in Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund, Hopewell Baptist Church, or Ebenezer Church of Christ.

WANDA LANE

Wanda Mary Shirley Lane, 86, a resident of Mercer Co. all of her life, went to be with her Lord on Sunday evening, April 20, 2008, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Extended Care.

She was born November 21, 1921 to the late Floyd and Laura Keightley Shirley and married Thomas Elmer Lane on August 3, 1942. He preceded her in death by seven years.

She was a faithful member of the Hopewell Baptist Church, where she was quick to share her testimony. She also attended Ebenezer Church of Christ. Never meeting a stranger, she always had a kind word and loved to be with family and friends.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Martha Carol Lane; Vietnam veteran son, Thomas E. Lane Jr.; step-mothers, Druscilla Howard Shirley and Willa Lewis Shirley and sisters, Martha (John) Nicely, Ruth (Calvin) Trisler and Helen (Paul) Lewis.

Survivors include her sons, William Larry Lane, Bentley S. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2008, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by John David Lane, Brian Burkhead, John Kesel and Barry Jude. Burial was in the Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation was 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ransdell’s.

Memorials are suggested to the Gideon Bible Fund, Hopewell Baptist Church or Ebenezer Church of Christ.

ELSIE RILEY

Elsie Riley, 86, died Wednesday April 16, 2008 at her residence.

Born May 23, 1921 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William V. and Laura B. Medley and was the widow of J. D. Riley.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: five daughters, Shirley Cooley of Harrodsburg, Jean Dennis of Harrodsburg, Brenda Riley of Lexington, Betty Jo Finley of Junction City, and Debra Mink of Harrodsburg; one son, Danny Riley of Florida; three sisters, Ann Hollingsworth of Florida, Mary Elliott and Judy Riley, both of Lexington; one brother, Ben Medley of Harrodsburg, 23 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Buck, Billy and Bobby Medley.

The graveside funeral services was held Saturday, April 19, at the Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Doug Vandiver officiating.

Pallbearers were Kevin Cooley, John Cooley, Joseph Cooley, Nick Mink, Cory Mink, Brandon Mink, Rodney Finley and Nelson Finley.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

ROMIE RUSSELL

Romie Otis Russell, 67, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born Aug.16, 1940 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Condit B. and Alice Johnson Russell and was the husband of Lou Hall of Versailles.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a retired construction worker.

Survivors include: two daughters, Cindy Stephens of Nicholasville and Patty Lovings of Richmond; two sons, Joey Russell of Nicholasville and Tim Russell of Versailles; two step-daughters, Donna Martin and May Belle Blevins; two step-sons, Doug Martin and Ray Martin; four sisters, Phyllis Turner of Burgin, Helen Turner of Wilmore, Mary Allen Drury of Harrodsburg and Wanda Christine Watkins of Versailles; six brothers, Billy Russell, Leonard Russell, Ronnie Russell, Roy Russell, Robert Russell and Freddy Russell; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren and several step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Russell, a step-son, David Martin and a step-grandson, Timmy Blevins.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 am Friday, April 25, at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will follow in Nonesuch Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Cecil Francis, Timmy Russell, Mark Russell, Chris Russell, Brian Stephens, and Michael Martin.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at the funeral home.

JUANITA SMITH

Juanita Greene Smith, 94, of Middlesboro died Wednesday, April 9, 2008.

Born Sept. 7, 1915 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James S. Greene, Sr. of Harlan and was the widow of Kirby Smith Jr.

She attended Converse College in South Carolina and graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Drama.

She directed numerous plays, served on the board of directors and was the dramatic director at the Middlesboro Little Theatre.

She was a director of the Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival, served as a member and chairman of the Middlesboro-Bell County Library Board and was very active in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She was a member of the Episcopal Church Women and served on the vestry.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lynne Smith Coughlin; two sons, Kirby (Donna) Smith III, Wilson Vance (Elizabeth) Smith; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Burmah Elizabeth Smith and two brothers, James S. Greene, Jr. and Glenn L. Greene, Sr.

The funeral was held Saturday April 12, 2008 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Rev. John Burkhart officiating. Interment was in Green Hills Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Glenn L. Greene, Jr., James S. Greene III, Brian Coughlin, Shawn Coughlin, Kirby Smith IV and Jordan Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Bill Jones, Harry M. Hoe, David Harris, Gene Dillman and Bill Stapleton.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Memorial Fund or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

ONEIDA WEBB

Oneida Cocanougher Webb, 83, of Mitchellsburg, died Monday, April 14, 2008 in Danville.

Born March 21, 1925 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Dallas and Opal Edwards Cocanougher and was the widow of Hubert Webb.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Donna (Lindsey) Poynter of Mitchellsburg and Rosemary Miller of Tennessee; three sons, Randall (Carnetta) Webb of Harrodsburg, Mike Webb of Perryville and Tim (Shirley) Webb of Mitchellsburg; one sister, Carrie Rose Carroll Webb of Perryville; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son, Steve K. Webb, one daughter, Ethel Sue Webb and one grandson, Rusty Webb.

The funeral was held Thursday, April 17 at the Wilder Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Alltop officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Miller, Michael Paul Webb, Derek Cooley, Dewayne Hardin, Chris Renner and Paul Borders.

Honorary pallbearers were Elaine Hayden and the nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 836 Euclid Ave. Suite 100, Lexington, KY 40502.

JOSEPH FILIATREAU

Joseph Edward "Jody" Filiatreau, 38, of Lexington, formerly of Washington County, died Thursday April 24, 2008.

He was a son of Joe Bernard of Fredericktown and Judy Filiatreau of Springfield. He had been a special education teacher at Boyle County Middle School and Boyle High School and also an IT consultant at the Boyle County Board of Education central office.

Survivors include: his wife, Tracy Reid; a stepson, Daniel Rivette of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Julie Riggs Johnson of Louisville; a brother, Jason Filiatreau of Lexington; and three sisters, Robin Cochran and Jessica Baker, both of Mackville, and Jenna Filiatreau of Lexington.

A Memorial Mass was held Saturday, April 26, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fredericktown.

Contributions are suggested to the Jody Filiatreau Educational Memorial Fund for at-risk students.

Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

EVA FISHER

Eva Peavler Fisher, 85, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008.

Born Aug. 20, 1922 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Byron and Laura Peavler and was the widow of Richard Hampton Fisher.

Survivors include: two daughters, Robyn (Louis) Bourgois of Lexington and Lisa E. Fisher of Salem, Indiana; two sons, Richard (Eileen) Fisher of Frankfort and Randy (Janice Kline) Fisher of Lexington; two brothers, Hugh L. Peavler, Richmond and Morris Peavler, Burgin; one sister, Mary Anne Merriman of Danville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lexington Humane Society, 1600 Old Frankfort Pike, Lexington, KY 40508.

Kerr Brothers Funeral Home – Main Street, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.

KATHRYN GRAHAM

Kathryn Mayes Graham, 99, of Main Street, Mackville, passed away at 3:25 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Village of Lebanon Nursing Home.

Born Oct. 21, 1908 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late William Irvin and Evalene Bottom Mayes and was the widow of Oakie Graham.

She was a member of the Mackville Baptist Church where she had perfect attendance for twenty-eight years in Sunday School, a former member of the Guiding Star Chapter #450, Order Of The Eastern Star in Springfield, owned and operated a general store in Mackville, she taught one semester at the Mackville Grade School and she was employed as a substitute clerk at the Mackville Post Office.

Survivors include: one daughter, Peggy (Pete) Carey of Springfield; three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant sons, Ronald and Donald Graham, a sister, Ruby Walls and a brother, Jason Mayes.

The funeral was held Tuesday, April 29, at the Mackville Baptist Church with Rev. Micah Carter and Rev. Mark Stuart officiating. Burial was in Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Pallbearers were Daniel Carpenter, Joshua Russell, Clifton Russell, Jeff Shewmaker, Sam Stumph and Jerry Goodlett.

Honorary pallbearers were Mitchell Burns, Jim Powell, Bruce Burkhead, Gary Carney, Gary Devine, Gary Scott, Bobby Lee Russell and Bobby Humes.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
