JACK GEURIN

Rev. Jack Geurin, 72, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

Born, Nov. 4, 1935, in Calloway County, he was the son of Mildred Tucker Geurin and the late Rudolph Geurin and was the husband of Mary Jean Ingold.

He graduated from Murray Training School in 1954. While in high school he was called into the ministry and was ordained in 1955 in his home church, Elm Grove. He later graduated from Campbellsville College in 1966 and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1970.

For over 50 years, he pastored churches in Kentucky, Indiana, Missouri and Tennessee. Most recently, he served in Mercer County as pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, and was Director of Missions for Mercer Association of Kentucky Baptists. He also served as pastor of Cornishville Baptist and Bethel Baptist churches in Mercer County.

In addition to his wife, and mother, survivors include: one son, David (Lori) Geurin of Mt. Vernon, MI; two daughters, Jackie (Jeremiah) Bishop of Louisville and Jeri (Mark) Stein of Union, SC; seven grandchildren; one aunt, Mary Belle Brantley of Murray and several brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral was Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Wayne Keuhner and Thurman Harris officiating. The second service was held Saturday at Elm Grove Baptist Church in Murray with Al Cobb and Harold Greenfield officiating. Interment was in Elm Grove Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Campbellsville University Scholarship Fund, New Hope Baptist Building Fund or the charity of one’s choice.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of local arrangements.

LULA GORDON

Lula Belle Gordon, 86, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.

Born July 20, 1921 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Matt and Ira Christian Tyler and was the widow of A.R. Gordon.

She was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include: four sons, Billy Overstreet of Lawrenceburg, Donnie Overstreet and Connie Overstreet, both of Wisconsin and Jimmy Overstreet of Harrodsburg; eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and two special friends, Wilma Noel and Riley Hoover.

She was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Overstreet, two brothers, Jessie and Carl Tyler and one sister, Flora Mae McGuire.

Graveside services was Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Spring Hill Cemetery with Carl Bush officiating.

GERTIE HUFFMAN

Gertie Mae Elliott Huffman, 78, of Cornishville, died Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born May 7, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Mary Russell Elliott and was the widow of Dudley Huffman, Sr.

She had been a supervisor for over thirty-one years at Cricketeer and was a member of Cornishville Christian Church. She was a former officer of the Order of the Eastern Star, was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include: one son, Dudley (Tina) Huffman, Jr.; one daughter, Teresa (Steve) Shuman; two brothers, Albert Elliott of Mercer County and Leon Elliott of Alabama; one sister, Betsy Goodlett of Frankfort; three grand-daughters and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by one grand-daughter, Stephanie Shuman, four brothers, Maurice, Walter, Carl, Edgar and Johnnie Elliott and one sister, Katherine Pankey.

The Funeral was held Wednesday, May 21, 2008 with Leonard Price and Curtis Sims officiating. Burial was in Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brian Huffman, Kyle Pankey, Tommy Greenwell, John Elliott, Arthur Elliott, Steve Elliott, Steve Brown and Bill Elliott.

RUBY KENT

Ruby King Kent, 75, of Louisville, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Baptist East Hospital in Louisville.

Born Oct. 14, 1932 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Homer and Mary Harlow King.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: two daughters, Debbie (Dan) Handley of Ft. Myers, FL and Lisa Kent of Louisville; two sisters, Mae Arnett of Louisville and Helen Claunch of Harrodsburg; one grandson; two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer King.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Friday, May 16, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dan Handley, Mark Handley, Bradley King, and Bill Powers.

Honorary pallbearers were David Sims and Jerry Person.

BETTIE MCGUIRE

Bettie McGuire, 69, of Danville, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Harrodsburg Health Care.

Born April 18, 1939 in Junction City, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Mamie McElfresh Rousey.

She was a 1957 graduate of Junction City High School, a former employee of Mercer Dress.

Survivors include: one son, Brian Kevin McGuire of Nicholasville; two sisters, Eula McGurire and Mary Elizabeth McGuire, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Carroll (Rowena) Rousey and Logan Rousey, both of Danville.

She was preceded in death by one son, Keith Allen McGuire and two brothers, James and Virgil Rousey.

The funeral was held Saturday May 17, 2008 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Young officiating. Interment was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tony McGuire, Jeramy Hudnall, John Michael McGuire, Terry Rousey, Randy Grow and Brandon Grow.

PATALINE MORRISSEY

Pataline Morrissey, 81, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday May 15, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 18, 1926 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Mary Jane Sallee Whitenack.

Survivors include: one son, Billy Morrissey of South Carolina; one daughter, Connie Gayle Warfield of Frankfort; two brothers, Roland Whitenack of Harrodsburg and Milton Whitenack of Texas ; four sisters, Georgia Napier of Lebanon, TN, Pat Price Ransdell of Milltown, IN, Dana Ruth Haas of Corydon, IN and Cindy Riddle of Stamping Ground and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Tommy Morrissey and three brothers, Carey, Jim and Jack Whitenack.

The funeral was held. Monday May 19, 2008 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with John David Lane officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers.

CHARLES PITTMAN

Charles William Pittman, 81, of Salvisa, died Friday, May 16, 2008 at his home.

Born March 3, 1927 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Harvey and Rosa Beatrice Best Pittman and was the husband of Naomi Honerkamp Ransdell Pittman.

He served the Navy during World War II and was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Clarksville, IN and a Kentucky Colonel. He owned and operated the Pittman Insurance Agency.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Mary Elaine Sheets; one son, Charles Wayne Pittman; one step son, William “Bill” Earl Ransdell of Salvisa; one step daughter, Vicki R. Walters of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; one great grandchild and eight step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Leroy Pittman, a sister, Rosemary, and his first wife, Irene Hogue Pittman.

The funeral was held Tuesday, May 20 at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Brian Burkhead officiating. Graveside service was helds in the Walnut Ridge in Jeffersonville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church, 1545 Talmage-Mayo Road, Salvisa, KY 40372.

HENRY SETTLE

Henry Thomas Settle, 75, husband of Lois Settle, died Wednesday May 14, 2008.

He was born in Frankfort to the late Henry Thomas Settle Sr. and Elsie Dean Settle.

Mr. Settle served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, receiving a bronze star, and was a retired employee of the Jim Beam Distillery. He was a member of the Leestown Gospel Church, American Legion post 7, and VFW post #4075.

He is survived by: his wife, Lois Settle; one daughter, Trina Settle Roberts of Frankfort; three sons, Kelly Settle of Frankfort, David T. Settle of Harrodsburg, and Henry W. Settle of Frankfort; one brother, Donald Settle of FL; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was held Friday May 16, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Reverend Billy Perkins officiating.

Clark Funeral Home-Versailles Road in Frankfort was in charge of the arrangements.

Donations may be made in his honor to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.

ALICE SPURLOCK

Alice Mae Perkins Spurlock, 89, of West Brown, died Thursday, May 15, 2008at the Harrodsburg Health Care.

A native of Jessamine County she was born July 28, 1918, to the late Henry and Minnie Perkins. She was the widow of Jay F. Spurlock who died in 1980.

She was a member of Nicholasville Baptist Church and had been an employee of the Jessamine County Board of Education in the Middle School Cafeteria where she enjoyed many years of being with the children.

Survivors include her brother Edward (Dolly) Perkins, sisters-in-law Lillian Perkins, and Frances Perkins, special niece Cheryl Jones and her daughter Natalie Durham, and her children that Alice always called “her boys” Justin and Payton Durham along with numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, J. D., and Chester Perkins.

The family would like to acknowledge the kindness given to her by Amanda Bishop, Jamie Johnson, and Lois Williams who were her nurses at Harrodsburg Health Care.

Services were held Saturday May 17, at the Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, Nicholasville. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Paul Douglas Ketron, Elmo Spurlock, Wayne Perkins, Kenneth Gregory, Dale and Justin Durham.

Honorary bearers were Mike and Louise Hurt, Donna Hammonds, Tony Moffett, Ed Fuller, Teddy Reynolds, James D. Perkins, and E. J. and Sissy Presley.

LYDA TODD

Lyda Cornelius Todd, 84, died Tuesday May 20, 2008 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Born Jan. 11, 1924 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Shouse and Verner Scrogham Cornelius and was the widow of Louis M. Todd.

She was a 1941 graduate of Harrodsburg High School, a 1945 graduate Nazareth School of Nursing at St. Joseph Hospital and attended Spaulding College.

She began her career as a registered nurse at A. D. Price Hospital now James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, Garrard County Hospital, Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and retired from Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was a former member of Eastern Star, D.A.R., District 9 Registered Nurses, Daughters of The Union and a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one brother, Dan Cornelius of Harrodsburg and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Louis June Grivetti, two half sisters, Evelyn Ellis and Harold Julia Speer, two brothers, Richard and Jack Cornelius and three half brothers, Robert, Fred and Jim Cornelius.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday May 22, 2008 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

No visitation is being held.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

SHUG WILCHER

James Earl “Shug” Wilcher, 68, of Parksville, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at his residence.

Born Jan. 6, 1940, in Boyle county, he was the son of the late George William Wilcher and Marie Roysdon Wilcher Burchett and husband of Margaret “Maggie” Reed Wilcher.

He was a retired Kentucky and Boyle County Highway Department employee and the Alum Springs Recycling Center. He had also worked for ATR and the Bluegrass Community Action Agency and for 17 years he was a Boyle County Constable. He was a member of Parksville Knob Independent Baptist Church, the Louisville American Legion Post and was a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Teresa (Jim) Hunt of Hartford, CN and Debbie (Johnny) Cooley of Danville; one son, James Earl “Bum” Wilcher of Parksville; three sisters, Mary Wilson of Parksville, Rose (Ervin) Pike of Danville and Barbara (Mike) Lively of Junction City; four brothers, George Wilcher of Harrodsburg, David Joe (Joyce) Burchett of Junction City, Allen (Joyce) Burchett of Stanford and Bobby (Betty) Burchett of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, June and Maurice Burchett and two sisters, Peart and Alice Burchett.

The funeral was held Wednesday, May 21 at the Stith Funeral Home and Family Center in Junction City with Brother Terry Orcutt and Brother Ronnie Lee officiating. Burial was in the Parksville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brandon Wilcher, Brad Gibbons, Jody Adams, Calvin Burchett, Tony Pike, Ricky Lynn, Jacob Green and Ervin Pike.

Honorary pallbearers will be Amy Gibbons, Sara Hunt, Dr. Don L. Hamner, Rev. Dale Denton and the staff of Heritage Hospice.

The family requests donation be made to Heritage Hospice, WDFB Christian Radio Station or the Parksville Knob Independent Baptist Church.
