LORA BAILEY

Lora B. Bailey, 91, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, May 16, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 19, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Eva Nora Stratton Beasley and was the widow of Henry Bailey.

She was a former employee of Cricketeer Manufacturing Co. and a member of the Burgin Church of God and the Mercer County Senior Citizens.

Survivors include: one daughter, Beverly Lee of Maiden, NC; two sisters, Margie Holliday of Sycamore, IL and Vertie Lambert of Louisville; 24 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three daughters, Mable Jenkins, Wanda Sims and Pat Brown, 10 siblings and four grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday, May 20 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Donnie Irvin officiating. Burial was in the Grapevine Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rocky Stratton, Joey Brown, Jackie Maness, David Denny, Ralph Maness and Daniel Brown.

Honorary pallbearers were Monty Brown, Jesse Maness, Buford Brown, Terry and Larry Denny.

Memorial contributions may be made to Burgin Church of God.

LOIS CAMIC

Lois Camic, 91, of Danville, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born May 12, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late J. Edgar and Hallie Mae Hendren Yates and was the widow of Marshall Camic.

She was a retired seamstress at Cricketeer in Harrodsburg and at Palm Beach in Danville. She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Doris Davis Circle and had also been a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader and had been a band booster.

Survivors include: one daughter, Marsha C. (John) Hughes of Danville; one brother, James (Vivian) Yates of Louisville; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Michael Camic.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dale Denton officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Mike Camic, David Camic, Larry D. Camic, Jarrod Morgan Hughes, John Marshall Hughes, Tyler Isaac and Ken Nelson.

Honorary pallbearers will be The Doris Davis Circle of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 29 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

SCOTT CRAWLEY

Scott Farrell Crawley, 46, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at his residence.

Born Oct. 24, 1961 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Barbara Darland Crawley and the late John David Crawley and was the husband of Linda Ivy Crawley.

He was a former long time Corning Inc. Electrical Engineer and had attended Burgin Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include: one brother, David W. Crawley of Salvisa; one sister, Sharon Stewart of Burgin; uncle and aunt, Ed and Janet Spencer of Lawrenceburg; several neices, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Eva Royalty, paternal grandparents, Manford and Ollie Crawley and his aunt, Rosalee Parkey.

The funeral was held Saturday, May 24, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Chaplain Gary Story and Bro. Brad King officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Crawley, Nicholas Risden, Keith Horn, Ben Bradshaw, John Crawley and Glenn Stewart.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

JAMES KEIGHTLEY

James M. Keightley, MD, 84, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 26, 1923 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Walker B. and Emma Moore Keightley and was the husband of Margaret Cummins Keightley.

He served as a flight surgeon in the U. S. Air Force and while stationed in Riverside CA, completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and delivered over 700 babies. He also served in the U. S. Army during WWII.

He attended Centre College, University of Kentucky and University of New Hampshire and received his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1947. He began his general practice in 1949; but, was interrupted by his military service.

In 1953 he resumed his general practice in Harrodsburg where he remained until retiring in 2003. He was named Chapter Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians in 1973 and qualified as a life member in 1995.

He was a member of the James B. Haggin Hospital Board for 17 years, was Chief of staff for 9 years and served a total of 50 years on the Medical Staff. He also served on the Board of Directors of the State Bank and Trust Co. for some 45 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Julie G. Keightley; two stepdaughters, Judy Curtis and Cindy Short; one granddaughter and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. James M. Keightley, Jr. and a stepson, Steve Machal.

The funeral was held Wednesday, May 28, at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.

JAMES KEIGHTLEY

Longtime doctor dies

James M. Keightley, 84, a longtime medical doctor in Harrodsburg, died Sunday at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Keightley began his general practice in 1949, only to be interrupted by his military service, but resumed his general practice here in 1952, working until his retirement in 2003.

He was named Chapter Fellow in the American Academy of Family Physicians in 1973 and qualified as a life member in 1995.

He served as a flight surgeon in the U. S. Air Force and while stationed in Riverside CA, completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology and delivered 764 babies. In a 2003 interview with The Herald, Keightley said: “I enjoyed obstetrics and did lots more of it than most in my internship in Louisville. When I went to the March Air Force Base, they only had two doctors. They were worked to death and asked what I wanted to do. I said, ‘deliver babies,’ and they said, ‘you’ve got them.”

Keightley also served in the U. S. Army during WWII.

“It’s a sad loss to our community and our patient care team. He was a member of our medical staff for 50 years, a member of our board for many years and also served as chief of the medical staff. We will all miss him, said Dr. Earl Motzer, CEO at Haggin Hospital.

Keightley attended Centre College, the University of Kentucky and the University of New Hampshire. He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in 1947.

When he retired, he said he had seen many changes in the medical field during his lifetime, chief among them, the development of antibiotics. “I remember when we didn’t have them. I’ve been in both ends of it, when aspirin, mustard plaster and cold compresses were all we had, to using antibiotics. Antibiotics have progressed to better ones and that has changed the whole treatment schedule,” he said.

Keightley also served on the Board of Director of the State Bank and Trust Company for many years.

He is survived by is wife, Margaret Cummins Keightley, a daughter, two stepdaughters and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and stepson.

ARTHUR LANHAM

Arthur Stanley Lanham, 90, Gravel Switch, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.

Lanham was born May 30, 1917, in Marion County.

Survivors include: three sisters, Louise (Dalton) Young of Gravel Switch and Mrs. Carol (Sidney) Gordon, both of Gravel Switch, and Mrs. Daisy (Jim) Berry of Louisville; and four brothers, Gene (Montrude) Lanham of Gravel Switch, Robert "Bobby" (Jean) Lanham of Lebanon, Everett (Dorothy) Lanham of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Harold (Marline) Lanham of Harrodsburg. Also surviving are 30 nieces and nephews and 60 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Hugh Asa and Nora Helen Bottom Lanham; two brothers, Paul and Garnett Lanham; and one sister, Beatrice Tate.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 25 at Gravel Switch Baptist Church with burial in Beech Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Jim Bratcher officiated and Rev. Robert Shockley assisted.

Memorial donations can be made to Marion County Handicap Industries, 516 Workshop Lane, Lebanon.

Active pallbearers were Warren, Greg and Shawn Lanham, Danny Young, Rodney Gordon and Dale Tingle.

Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.

RODGER MCNEAR

Rodger Michael McNear, 40, of Harrodsburg, died May 21, 2008.

He was the husband of Sherry Johnson McNear.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Matthew Louallen; one stepson, B. J. Johnson; one daughter, Amanda Jean Casey; one step-daughter, Jennifer Johnson; two brothers, Tommy McNear of Tennessee and Walter McNear of Bardstown; four sisters, Mary Turner of Lebanon, Deborah Taylor of Alabama, Linda Madison of North Carolina and Rebecca Riley of Salvisa and three grandchildren.

The funeral was held Tuesday, May 27, at Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home in Lebanon. Burial was in Our Lady of the Hills Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terry McNear Jr., Shawn Riley, Donald Doyle, Robbie Tatum, Robbie Deering and Tony Rosenburger.

Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home in Lebanon, was in charge of the arrangements.

JULIAN PANK

Rev. Julian F. Pank, 93, of Louisville, died Friday, May 23, 2008 at Sacred Heart Village in Louisville.

He was a retired Catholic priest, served as assistant pastor at St. Vincent de Paul and Holy Name Church in Louisville, former pastor at St. Andrew in Harrodsburg, St. Lawrence in Lawrenceburg, St. Basil and St. Stephen Martyr in Louisville and St. Francis Xavier in Mt. Washington .

Survivors include: two nieces, four nephews, 25 great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-great niece.

He was preceded in death by two bothers, Rev. William Pank and Robert Pank, a sister, Miriam Pank and a sister-in-law, Laverne Pank.

The funeral was held Tuesday, May 27 at St. Martha Catholic Church in Louisville. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 1740 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY 40205 or masses for the deceased.

LOUISE PHILLIPS

Louise Price Phillips, 78, died Monday May 26, 2008, at the Springfield Nursing Home.

Born March 27, 1940 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Arnold Pike and Lillie Marie Cecil and was the widow of Willard Phillips. She was a homemaker and a member of Shelby City Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Paul Ray (Sheary) Eversole of Danville; two daughters, Lillie Marie Phillips of Danville and Opal Ruth (Lee Roy) Douglas of Junction City; one step-son, Eugene Phillips of Junction City; two step daughters, Leoma (Stanley) Leffew of Harrodsburg and Alice Fay (Alfred) Smith of Danville; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 29 at Stith Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. Paul O. McFarland and Rev. Michael Spurr officiating. Burial will be in the Junction City Cemetery.

Stith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

HAROLD BROCK

Harold Dean Brock, 75, Old US 60, Frankfort, died Tuesday May 27, 2008 at his residence following a long illness.

A native of Grant County, he worked for the Kentucky Department of Finance as a store operations manager. He was a United States Army veteran during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include: one daughter, Kimberly B. Hockensmith, Frankfort; one son, Eric Dean (Rena) Brock, Harrodsburg; one brother, James E. Brock, Louisville; and two sisters, Joyce Hammond, Monterey, KY and Muriel Walton, Plymouth, PA; one granddaughter, Whitney Nicole Brock and one great- grandson, Jayden Dean Brock; sister-in-law, Catherine Raisor, Frankfort; sister-in-law, Gerri George, Washington ; and a special friend, Lois Clark, Frankfort.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hollie and Clara Helen Caldwell Brock; his wife, Ethel Brown "Shorty" Brock; and his brother, Gerald Brock.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 30, at the LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home, Frankfort. Rev. Bob Karsner officiated and burial was in Sunset Memorial Cemetery where military services were conducted by VFW Post #4075.

Pallbearers were Larry Hazlett, Alan Davis, Shaun Clark, Neal Thomas True, Brian New and Steve Brock.

Honorary pallbearers were Tomi Barrett, Mike Raisor, Gerald Prewitt, Gary Fint, Donnie Dobbins, Jon Davis, and Todd Murphy.
