JOHN HOSTETTER

John W. Hostetter, 74, of Lexington, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

Born in Maysville, he was a former resident of Burgin, was the son of the late John H. and Minnie Lalley Hostetter and was husband of Ann Webb Hostetter.

He was a retired self-employed CPA, an honorary member of American Institute of CPA and the Kentucky Society of CPAs.

He was a graduate of Burgin High School and University of Kentucky where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and Beta Alpha Psi Honorary Society, a member of Cathedral of Christ the King.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Michael A. (Linda) Hostetter and David W. (Jennifer) Hostetter both of Lexington; one daughter, Lee A. (Andy) Walker of Lexington; one sister, Patsy (Bill) May of Indiana and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Fister.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3 at Cathedral of Christ the King.Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation 5–8 p.m. Wednesday, July 2 at Milward Funeral and Cremation Service-Broadway.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

MARY ISHAM

Mary Christian Isham, 79, of Bowling Green died Wednesday June 25, 2008.

Born April 1, 1929, in Burgin, she was a daughter of the late Otho and Bessie Mae Carr Jenkins. She was a member of Forrest Park Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school and Bible school teacher.

Survivors include: her husband, Joseph William Isham Sr.; a daughter, Vicki Winstead of Henderson; a sister, Louise Hicks of Hustonville; a granddaughter, Rhonda Green of Bowling Green; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph W. "Bill" Isham Jr. and Glendon Keith Isham; two brothers, Ralph and LeRoy Jenkins; and a granddaughter, Leigh Ann Winstead.

Services were held Monday, June 30, at J. C. Kirby and Son Funeral Chapel, Broadway, in Bowling Green. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery 2.

LARKIN JOHNSON

Larkin D. Johnson, 84, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

Born Aug. 1932, in Sunnyday, he was the son of the late Barney and Elizabeth Johnson and was the widower of Joan Rose Bamber Johnson.

He lived most of his life in Ohio County where he was a farmer, a retired Probation and Parole Officer, Supervisor of the Ohio County Highway Department and was a WWII Navy Veteran.

He served as Director for Green River PCA, was on the Farm Bureau and the Ohio County Hospital Board, was an active member of the Hartford United Methodist Church, was a past Master of the Hartford Masonic Lodge No. 675, was a member of the Beaver Dam Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Rispah Shrine Temple in Madisonville.

Survivors include: three daughters, Susan (Jim) Wade of Lexington, Dr. Pamela Johnson and Paula (Joe) Hubbard, both of Harrodsburg; one honorary daughter, Leslie Manning of Marietta, GA; one brother, R.C. Johnson of Hartford; one sister, Gail Waltrip of Owensboro; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Durrell Johnson.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 6 at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 5. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice Inc, in Danville, Shriners Hospital for Children in Lexington, or the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church Building Fund.

LORI LOGUE

Lori Anne Logue, 43, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, June 27, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Aug. 18, 1964 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of J.T. and his wife Elaine Logue and Brenda Weldon Brandt of Harrodsburg.

She was a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church and a former employee of Trim Masters.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: one daughter, Amy (Joseph) Cundiff of Burgin; one brother, Travis (Jenifer) Taylor of Harrodsburg; five sisters, Lisa (Stuart) Enlow of Danville, Christi Brown, Deidra (Mark) Williams and Brandy Logue of Harrodsburg and Pansy (Chris) Coffman of Burgin and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Price Collier, III and her brother, William Thomas Taylor.

A Celebration of Lori’s Life was held Monday, June 30, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Williams officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Joseph Cundiff, Eric Taylor, Lee Williams, Kevin Reed, Daniel Taylor and Stuart Enlow.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Peele, Terry Coslow, Jimmy Collier and Garnett “Duck” Collier.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.

DONALD ROYALTY SR.

Donald F. Royalty Sr, 78, of Lexington, IN, died Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital.

Born Dec. 17, 1929 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Guy W. and Gertrude Bryant Royalty and was the husband of Juanita L. Loveless Royalty.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He worked at Sears-Roebuck in Indianapolis, IN, was a retired farmer, worked at the Jefferson Proving Grounds as a gunner for several years, was a member of the Kent Christian Church and was a former Cub Scout Leader.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Linda Dianne Brouette of Evansville, IN; three sons, Frank (Cindy) Royalty of Lexington, IN, Steve (Debbie) Royalty of Deputy and Rick (Renee) Royalty of Shelbyville; two sisters, Juanita Cannon of Danville and Jane Kimsey of Louisville; one brother, Dan (Mary) Royalty of Hanover; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Smith and Rev. Doug Lee officiating. Interment was in Kent Cemetery.

The Honor Guard of the American Legion Post #9 conducted military graveside services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

HAZEL STRATTON

Hazel Ethel Disponette Stratton, 81, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, June 27, 2008 at the home of her sister Geraldine Stratton in Woodford County.

Born May 13, 1927 in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late Mary Frances Riley and David Bradley Disponette and was the widow of Ambrose Arnold “Ham” Statton.

She was a graduate of Versailles High School, a 30 year employee of Kuhlman Electric in Versailles, a former employee of Barrett’s Sewing Factory in Versailles and a member of the Pinckard Baptist Church in Woodford County.

Survivors include: two sisters, Geraldine (J. B.) Stratton and Geneva (Leroy) Thompson both of Woodford County and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She preceded in death by a brother, Owen Bradley Disponette.

The funeral was held Monday, June 30, 2008 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Rev. Doug Simpson officiating. Burial was in Sand Spring Cemetery in Anderson County.

Pallbearers were John and Bradley Stratton, Greg Thompson, Brian, Braden and Cameron Peyton.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pinckard Baptist Church, 3401 Pinckard Pike, Versailles, KY 40383.

BESSIE BYRD

Bessie Lee Biggs Byrd, 100, of Maryville, died Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at Asbury Place.

Born Oct. 15, 1907 in Mooresburg, TN, she was the daughter of James and Frances Biggs and was the widow of Robert Lee Byrd and Carroll P. Byrd.

She was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Robert L. (Marilyn) Byrd, John P. (Dawn) Byrd, and Rev. James (Linda) Byrd; two daughters, Joanna (David) Whitmore and Christine (Eugene) Farmer; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral was held Saturday, July 5 at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Byrd officiating. Interment was in Clark’s Grove Cemetery.

SAMUEL COX

Samuel Paul Cox, 63, of Lexington, husband of Janice Cox, passed away July 6, 2008 at his residence.

Born Nov. 15, 1944, he was the son of the late Naomi and Raymond P. Cox. He owned and operated Imperial Lock and Key for the past 17 years. He loved spending time with his dogs and friends at various dog shows and agility events.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: one sister, Vickie (Joe) Buckley, Nicholasville; one brother, Harold (Sue) Cox, Harrodsburg; eight nieces and three nephews. He leaves behind his four vizslas, his English Springer, and his Bichon Frise.

Services were held Wednesday, July 9, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

TERRY DRAKEFORD

Terry Lee Drakeford, 41, of Georgetown, died Monday, July 7, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born Feb. 4, 1967, he was the son of Loretta Lee Bennett Drakeford of Harrodsburg and the late Marion T. Drakeford and was the husband of Edna Lorraine Higdon Drakeford.

He was a surgical technician.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include: two brothers, Wendell Drakeford of Georgetown and James Joseph Drakeford of Harrodsburg.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Louise Drakeford.

The funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home–Harrodsburg Road in lexington with Rev. Daniel Schwendeman and Rev. Peter K. Joseph, H.G.N officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 10:30 am Thursday until the time of the service.

Kerr Brother Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

RONALD EMMONS

Ronald E. Emmons, 69, of Danville, died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Oct. 14, 1938 in Mt. Sterling, he was the son of the late Ollie and Sarah Everman Emmons and was the husband of Linda Emmons.

He was a retired Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force where he served for thirty-one years. He also retired as sexton of Springhill Cemetery after fifteen years with the City of Harrodsburg.

In additioin to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Ronnie (Mandy) Emmons of Gravel Switch and Randy (Rheanna) Emmons of Danville; three sisters, June (Cecil) Pugh of Flemingsburg, Elaine (Shirley) Grimes of Sharpsburg and Cindy (Carlie) Baker of Winchester and three grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 11 at Stith Funeral Home with the Rev. Dale Denton officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home.

JAMES GATEWOOD

James Lee Gatewood, 81, of Frankfort, died peacefully at the VA Medical Center, Lexington, on Sunday, July 6, 2008.

Born November 2, 1926 in Franklin County, he was the son of the late J. B. Gatewood and Jewell T. Roberts McDonald

He was a retired WWII Army veteran and also retired from Schenley Distillery. He was a member of the Hiram Lodge #4 and the American Legion Post 7; Past High Priest, Frankfort Chapter #3; Past Illustrious Master, Frankfort Council #5; Past Commander, Frankfort Commandry #4; Outstanding Mason Award, 1973; Past Commander Oleika Temple L.O.H.; Past President, Capital City Shrine Club, Frankfort; Past Commander S.E.S.A. Legions of Honor, Royal Order of Jesters Court 121, and the Oleika Temple Shriner of the year 1992. He was a member of Thornhill Baptist Church.

He is survived by: his wife, Barbara Whitaker Gatewood; two sons, Jim Duncan, Harrodsburg, and Steve Duncan, Frankfort; three daughters, Jane Earl Driskell and Connie Duncan, both of Frankfort, and Brenda Lichtenfels, Shelbyville; one brother, Billy D. McDonald, Lexington; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his step-father, Earl McDonald.

Services were held at the Harrod Brothers Memorial Chapel, Frankfort, on Wednesday, July 9, with Rev. Billy Perkins and Rev. William Hartung officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Woodford County.

Pallbearers were his grandchildren.

Flowers are welcome but expressions of sympathy may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607-1460.
