CARL FINLEY, SR.

Carl Richard Finley, Sr., 68, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 8, 1939 in Irvine, he was the son of the late Jim and Ethel Petters Finley and was the husband of Sue Carol Finley.

He was a retired delivery driver for Star Battery in Newport and was a U.S. Army Veteran.

In addtion to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Karen Sue Baugh of Harrodsburg, Tiffany Marie McClure of Harrodsburg and Barbara Stull of Laverne, TN; four sons, Carl Richard Finley, Jr. of Covington, Michael A. Finley of Harrodsburg, James Darren Finley of Erlanger and Jason Edward Finley of Cincinnati; Two sisters, Sarah Francis Hartness of Cincinnati and Leona Burton of Lynchburg, OH; fifteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Lynn Finley.

The funeral was held Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Gary Story officiating. Burial with military Honors was at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his sons.

EDNA GREEN

Edna G. Green, 79, passed away Saturday July 12, 2008.

Born in Maysville, she was daughter of the late Rev. Dr. and Mrs. O. S. Gardner.

She is survived by: her husband of 61 years, William M. Green; three daughters, Shirley Chass, Ft. Myers, FL, Carol Evans, McMurray, PA and Robin Hatton, Lexington; four grandchildren, Rachel, Melissa, Joshua and Wesley; two great grandchildren, Jonah and Maeryn; sister, Lula Smith, Shelbyville.

She was a graduate of Crump Business College and was previously employed as a bookkeeper by Kentucky State Hospital, Mercer County School Board, Harrodsburg United Methodist Church and the Kentucky Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was a member of The Rock: LaRoca United Methodist Church.

Funeral service were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, at the Milward-Broadway, Lexington. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort.

Pallbearers were Rev. David Evans, Wesley Evans, Wayne Green, Joshua Hatton, David Marshall and Joe McFarland.

BOB GRIGSBY

Robert Lee “Bob” Grigsby, 70, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 30, 1938 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Charles and Grace Huffman Grigsby and was the husband of Beuna Collier Grigsby.

He was a retired MIG Welder Salesman, a former Route Supervisor with the Danville Advocate Messenger, was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of Vietnam where he served as an Aircraft Loadmaster, a member of the Grace Baptist Church, a supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and a Kentucky Colonel.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Belinda (Dennis) Robinson of Washington County and Jamie (Ralph) Byrd of Harrodsburg; two sons, Michael (Alida) Grigsby of Florida and Mark (Kim) Matherly of Mercer County; two brothers, Buddy Grigsby of Bamburg, SC and David Grigsby of Donaphan, MI; two sisters, Dottie Vaught of Mercer County and Glenn Frederick of Flemingsburg; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Charles and John Grigsby and three sisters, Nancy White , Grace Logsdon and Marion Joyce Goodloe.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Collier and Bro. Andrew Dyer officiating. Burial with military Honors will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 and/or Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

RALEIGH JONES JR.

Raleigh B. Jones Jr.,. died unexpectedly at his home in Harrodsburg,

Born November 20, 1964, he was the son of Willia Jones and the late Raleigh B. Jones, Sr.

Raleigh was a graduate of Bryan Station Senior High and was a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was the owner of Lawns to Remember and worked part-time at Wal-Mart.

Survivors include: one sister, Rosa Jones, Lexington; half-brother, Tommy Jones of Louisville; one nephew, Steven White of Scottsburg, IN; grandmother, Mary E. Bates.

Funeral service were held Monday, July 14, at the Pilgrim Baptist Church.

Arrangements with Smith & Smith Funeral Home.

MARY WHITE

Mary E. Wise White , 96, widow of Clyde W. White , died Sat, July 12, 2008.

Born in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Lister and Annabelle Wise.

She was a member of Porter Memorial Baptist Church and the True Seekers Sunday School class.

She is survived by: one daughter, Barbara Jean (Jimmy) Leung, Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren, Stephen Sparks and Pamela Sparks.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Elwood Wise.

Services were held Wednesday, July 16, at Milward’s-Southland in Lexington. Burial will follow in Versailles Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Porter Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund or Gideon’s International.

BOBBY BLACK

Robert Lee “Bobby” Black, 75, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at the Christian Care Center in Lancaster.

Born Jan. 27, 1933 in Louisville, he was the son of the late Margaret Black Burrus.

He was a self-employed farm laborer and a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include: two aunts, Willie Jones and Evelina Shirley; four uncles, Walter and Dave Jones of Shelbyville, Claude Jones of Lynwood, WA and James Jones of Simpsonville and one cousin, Rosa M. Jones of Lexington.

A graveside services was held Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Maple Grove Cemetery with Rev. Daryl Hodge officiating.

The Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DAN BOWMAN

Dan King Bowman, 68, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born April 18, 1940 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late William and Gradie White Bowman.

He was a former employee of Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company, a retired employee of IBM in Lexington and was a former employee of Wal-Mart in Lexington. He was a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin.

Survivors include: one son, Kelly (JoAnn) Bowman of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Gwendolyn Kay Bowman of Harrodsburg; one step daughter, Felicia (Billy) Barbour of Park City; one step son, Anthony Adams of Lexington; one brother, Fred Bowman of Norfolk, VA; five sisters, Gladys Gooch of Danville, Georgia McKitric of Burgin and Mary Lou Caldwell, Lucille Smith and Lillian Gerton, all of Louisville; seven grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Morris Bowman and two sisters, Shirley Sleet and Florence Bowman Tarrance.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Little Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Phillip A. Yates and Bro. Barry Bowman officiating. Burial will be in the Robinson Roe Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

The Parks Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

BEATRICE GIBSON

Beatrice Loretta McNamer Gibson, 85, of Paris, died July 20, 2008 in her home.

Born Nov. 12, 1922 in Augusta, she was the daughter of Robert and Nettie McNamer and was the wife of Ralph Wilkerson Gibson.

She was a 1939 graduate of Harrodsburg High School co-founder of a national nondenominational children’s ministry, Kids For Christ, which provided weekend camps for children.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: three daughters, Deedie (Jack) Tucker of Paris, Gail (Dub) Malaise of McKinney, TX and Melissa Gibson of Paris; one sister, Betty Jane Davidson of Lafayette, LA and three grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, July 23, at the Paris Cemetery Chapel followed by a celebration of her life at Duncan Tavern.

Pallbearers were Jack Tucker, Dub Malaise, Chris McIntosh, Joe DiBlasio, Jim Hayden, John Snell, Mike McKenney and Bill Fryer.

Memorials contributions may be made to Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Hinton-Turner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM LAY

William Lowell Worthington Lay, 70, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, July 21, 2008 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.

Born June 20, 1938 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Louise B. Lay Phillips of San Diego, CA and the late William G. Lay.

He was a US Navy veteran of the Vietname War having served aboard the US Dixie-AD14. He was a retired electrician, a member of the VFW, DAV, a volunteer for the VA Medical Ctr. in Lexington for several years and was a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: one son, William Christopher Martin Lay, of Frankfort; two daughters, Betty Joyce Lay and Eugenia Rose Lay, both of Louisville; two sisters, Jacqueline (Allen) Vandyke of San Jose’, CA and Geraldine Sevier of San Diego, CA.

The funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Parks Funeral Home with Dr. Phillip A. Yates officiating. Burial will be at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Jessamine County along with military honors and interment.

Visitation will be from 9–11:30 a.m. Friday at the Parks Funeral Home.

Parks Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

CARL MCCLURE

Carl Eugene McClure, infant son of Billy Joe and Tiffany Marie Finley McClure, died Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at his residence.

He was born June 21, 2008.

In addition to his parents, survivors include: two brothers, Gage Finley and Gabriel McClure, both of Harrodsburg; paternal grandparents, Mickey and Wilma McClure of Dayton, TN and Paul and Evelyn Lackey of Georgetown, TN; paternal great grandparents, Bud and Ann Hardin of Harrison, TN; maternal grandmother, Sue Carol Finley of Harrodsburg and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral was held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Gary Story officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

CARL MCCLURE

Infant is found unresponsive

Carl E. McClure, the 3-week-old son of Billy Joe and Tiffany Marie Finley McClure of 673 Beaumont Ave. was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 16 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Mercer County Coroner Sonny Ransdell said the death occurred at the infant's residence, and then the baby was transported by Mercer County EMS to the hospital.

“The preliminary cause of death is compressional asphyxia. The body was sent to the Kentucky Examiner’s Office. The manner of death will be ruled upon when the investigation has concluded,” Ransdell said Tuesday.

Harrodsburg Police Lt. Garry Bradshaw said the parents reportedly found the infant unresponsive after sleeping in the bed with them through the night.

The baby was born June 21, 2008. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, grandparents including his maternal grandmother, Sue Carol Finney of Harrodsburg and other relatives.
