LESTER PADGETT

Lester Henry Padgett, 85, of Wilmore, formerly of Waynesburg, died Tuesday at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

He was the son of the late Lloyd Padgett, Sr. and Lula Elizabeth Hall Padgett.

He was a carpenter and of the Baptist faith. A veteran of the Army in WWII, he served in the European theater and received the Bronze Star.

Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Veda Hoseclaw Padgett; five children, Kaye (Clarence) Perkins of Muscle Shoals, AL, Carolyn (David) Vincent of Jacksonville, FL, Judy Reynolds of Waynesburg, Larry Padgett of Harrodsburg and Gary (Connie) Padgett of Stanford; seven grandchildren, Jason Perkins, Misty and Robbie Reynolds, Kevin Perkins, Brad, Will and Chase Padgett; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Padgett, four brothers, Walter, Russell, Lloyd, Jr. and Howard Padgett; a son-in-law, Robert Reynolds

Graveside services were held at Double Springs Cemetery, Saturday, July 19, Officiating the service will be George Dye.

Caswell Saufley post #18 presented military honors with the United States Army honor guard.

Casket bearers were grandchildren, Jason, Kevin, Misty, Robbie, Brad, Will and Chase.

Honorary bearers were Clarence Perkins, David Vincent and Connie Padgett.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be given to Thomson-Hood Veterans Center Lincoln Unit, 100 Veterans Way, Wilmore, KY 40390.

JOHN RIDGWAY

John A. Ridgway, 60, of Harrodsburg, died July 21, 2008 at the UK Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.

Born March 21, 1948 in Graves County, he was the son of the late Dalton Thomas and Mary Ezma Thacker Ridgway and was the husband of Patricia Maxie Ridgway of Harrodsburg.

He was a retired UPS truck driver.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Deborah Moore of Salem, OR and Michelle McDowell of Philpot; four sons, John A. Ridgway Jr. of Lexington, James C. Ridgway of Harrodsburg, and Jeremy T. Hagen and Jeffrey A. Hagen of Crothersville, IN; two brothers, James C. Ridgway of McDowell and William E. Ridgway of Harrodsburg and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

The funeral will be held at 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 24 at the Good Springs Cemetery in Dukedom, TN.

Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton was in charge of the arrangements.

RICHARD SEXTON

Richard Sexton, 57, of Harrodsburg, died July 23, 2008 at St Joseph’s Hospital in Lexington.

He was born June 19, 1951.

Survivors include: one son, Travis (Katrina) Mounce of London; one brother, Wayne (Eve) Sexton of Harrodsburg; one sister, Linda Sexton of Midway and several grandchildren and cousins.

A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

LARRY SMITH

Larry Dean Smith, 58, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington .

Born in Corbin, he was the son of Bertha Sears Smith of Lawrenceburg and the late Harold Smith and was the husband of Lois Annette Bottoms Smith.

He was a retired employee of General Cable Company after 30 years of service and was currently employed as a fork lift driver for Deco Arts in Stanford. He was a member of Mt. Freedom Baptist Church in Corbin, KY; attended Anderson County High School and was a member of the NRA Blue Tick of America, American Black Mouth Cur Association, Blue Tick Coon Hunters Association, Kentucky Mule Association, and Gun Owners of America.

In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include; two sons, Victor Wade Smith of Lawrenceburg and Travis Dean (Becky) Smith of Denver, CO; two step daughters, Tylisa Goodman of Harrodsburg and Shaquita Andrews, of Lexington; three step sons, Juhon (Becky) Goodman of Lawrenceburg and Joshua Goodman and Jaderiann Goodman of Harrodsburg; one sister, Kathy Smith of Honolulu, HI; two granddaughters and 10 step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Kay Smith.

No services were held. Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg was in charge of the arrangements.

GRANVILLE WHITT

Granville Allen Whitt, 53, died Monday, July 21, 2008.

Born August 13, 1954 in Lexington, he was the son of the late Herbert and Goldie Bryant Whitt.

He was in the United States Army before pursuing a career as a truck driver.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lorie Ann (Terry) Whitt, of Ashland City, TN; three sisters, three brothers, and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, 300 East Main Street, Suite 110, Lexington, KY 40502 or American Legion Post 8, 1230 Man O’War Place, Lexington, KY 40504.

GRANVILLE WHITT

Man dies from accident injuries

Granville A. Whitt, 53, of 316 Talmage-Mayo Road died Monday at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington from injuries suffered in a vehicle accident last Wednesday at 7:40 a.m.

His truck went through a guardrail and went airborne, ejecting Whitt from the vehicle.

He was northbound on U.S. 127, when he attempted to turn onto VanArsdall Road, but his truck then abruptly came back across both lanes of traffic, went through the guardrail and went airborne in a northeasterly direction.

The truck rolled down the embankment, and Whitt was ejected into a yard.

The vehicle, which was severely damaged, traveled approximately 474 feet from where the skid marks began to its final resting place.

A witness, Derrick Robinson, told officials he was also northbound, traveling at approximately 50 mph, when Whitt passed him at a high rate of speed.

Family members said Whitt was fine when he left home, and he was actually en route to a doctor’s appointment.

Mercer County Fire and Rescue units and Mercer County EMS responded and gave first aid at the scene.

Whitt was unconscious at the scene and was transported via helicopter to the medical center.

Mercer County Sheriff Chris Kehrt investigated.

Whitt was a truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by a daughter, Lorie Ann (Terry) Whitt of Ashland City, TN, three sisters, three brothers and a grandson.

He was preceded n death by his parents, the late Herbert and Goldie Bryant Whitt and a brother.

CHEYANNE WELLS

Cheyanne Faye Wells died July 13th , 2008.

Born April 4, 2008, she was the daughter of Jessica and Timothy Wells.

Additional survivors include: a twin-sister, Isabell Ruth; grandparents, W. T. Smith, Brenda Smith, Judy and Donnie Stephens; grandfather, W. D. Wells; great-great-grandmother, Ruth Rhodes; uncles, Johnathan Moor, Keith Wells and Scott Harrison; aunts, Jiri Moor, Amanda Lynch and Tera Wells.

Services were held Monday, July 22, at the Betts & West Funeral Home, Nicholasville.

Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

JOHN WOODS

John Edwin Graham Woods, 81, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born April 18, 1927 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Lewis C. and Minnie Alice Wilder Woods and was the husband of Wanda Kaye Thurman Woods.

He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II, was a retired farmer and member of the Carpenter’s Christian Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Roberta Graham Woods of Lawrence, KA and Sarah Hill Schooler of Midway; one sister, Sarah Frances Bottom of Harrodsburg; one step son, Kevin S. Kirkland of Maryville, TN; one step daughter, Michele K. Bugg of Harrodsburg and five step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Minnie Rea Yates and a brother, Lewis C. Woods, Jr.

A graveside service was held Sunday July 20 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Bro. Greg Warren officiating.

INA ADAMS

Ina Esham Adams, 92, of Lexington, died Sunday, July 27, 2007 at Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born August 30, 1915 in Elliott County, to the late Will & Mollie Tackett Esham.

Immediately after birth she moved to Lewis County, where she later graduated from St. Joseph Hospital Nurses Training in Lexington, as an R.N. in 1936 and became a nurse at Eastern State Hospital.

Survivors include: two sons, William E. “Steve” (Phyllis L.) Adams of Bonita Springs, Fl and Floyd Alan (Suzanne Tack) Adams of Salvisa; four grandchildren, William Keith Adams of Paducah, Steven Nicholas Adams of Brooksville, Fl, Bethany Faye Adams of Jacksonville, Fl, Jennifer Paige Adams of Rockville, MD; two granddaughters-in-law and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 2, at the Kerr Bros. Funeral Home – Main Street, by Rev. Lee Cox. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.

ROBERT BOTTOM

Robert Mallery Bottom, 76, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor.

Born Dec. 30, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Taylor and Mary Bottom and was the husband of Mary Anna Bottom.

He was a retired State Road Department employee and farmer and was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three sons, Robert Bruce Bottom of Harrodsburg, John Thomas Bottom of Nicholasville and Clifford Bryant Bottom of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Rose Carolyn Derringer and Margie Pike, both of Harrodsburg; two step-sons, Bill and Eddie Bottom, both of Harrodsburg; four brothers, J. T. Bottom, Darrell Bottom and Wathan Bottom, all of Harrodsburg and Walter Bottom of Greensburg, IN; two sisters, Wandola Cheatham of Harrodsburg and Barbara Steele of LaCanta, FL; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deva Marie Bottom and two brothers, William and Neal Bottom.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter and Bro. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial will be in Deep Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5–9 p.m. Wednesday and after 7 a.m. Thursday.
