CATHY MOBLEY

Cathy Staples Mobley, 57, Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at her residence.

Born July 29, 1951 she was the daughter of the late William J. and Agnes Loftus Staples.

She was a former Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center nurse and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church. She was a 1969 graduate of Mercer County High School a graduate of the Danville School of Nursing and enjoyed animals and television.

Survivors include: one brother, William R. Staples of Harrodsburg; one sister, Mary Anna (Richard) Rothan, of PA; one aunt, Chauncey Loftus of IN; two nephews; three nieces and several cousins and great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Humane Society, 896 Moberly Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

DAVID STINES

David Lee Stines, age 74, of Erskine Drive in Danville, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at his residence.

Born Tuesday, February 6, 1934 in Ferguson, KY, he was a son of the late Parker Nicholas and Lela B. Stines.

He was retired from the Biomedical Department at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. He enjoyed cars, especially Corvettes, and computers.

He is survived by: his wife of 27 years, Darline Stines of Danville; three sons, Brian Jeffrey Stines, Michael David Stines both of CA and Chris Lee Stines of Cornishville; two daughters, Debbie Stines of CA and Deborah Jones of Danville; brother Joe (Linda) Stines of Danville; two sisters, Roberta (Jim) Davis and Sarah (Dan) Hall, both of Danville; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

No services are scheduled.

Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements.

TRUDY TODD

Trudy Benge Todd, 53, wife of Leroy Todd of Crab Orchard, passed away Wednesday October 29, 2008 at the Hospice Compassionate Care Center in Richmond.

She was born on February 2, 1955, a daughter of Don and Mae Etta VanHook.

Survivors include: her husband, Leroy Todd of Crab Orchard; parents, Don and Mae Etta VanHook of Eubank; children, Tina (Mark) Hamm of Somerset and Jason (Erica) Denney, both of Somerset, and Joshua Denney of Crab Orchard; brothers and sisters, Donnie (Vicky) VanHook of Stanford, Gary (Judy) VanHook of Harrodsburg, Amy (Brian) Cole of Lexington; six grandchildren, Zoey and Lillian Hamm, Jake, Blake, Holly and Haley Denney.

Services were officiated by Bro. Rick Reynolds at Poplar Grove Baptist Church, Willailla, KY. on Friday, October 31, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Poplar Grove Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice Care Plus or Poplar Grove Cemetery Fund.

Marvin E. Owens Funeral Home in Brodhead was in charge of arrangements.

MARGARET WEBER

Margaret H. Weber, 73, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 at her home.

Born Sept. 26, 1935 in Keyser, WV, she was the daughter of the late Glen Chisholm and Marian Jones Weber. She was a librarian for the Detroit Public Library and a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: a sister: Nancy W. Kalesz of Overland Park, KS; and a brother; David C. Weber of Harrodsburg, three nieces and three nephews.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday Nov. 8, 2008 at the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church by Dr. Arthur DeYoung.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Harrodsburg Presbyterian Church, or Heritage Hospice.

RALPH GIBSON

Ralph Wilkerson Gibson, 86, of Paris, died Nov. 7, 2008.

Born Oct. 9, 1922, he was the son of the late Ethel and Victor Gibson and was the widower of Beatrice “Bee” McNamer Gibson.

He was an employee at Eastern State Hospital, a Harrodsburg High School graduate, and served in the Army during WWII.

Survivors include: three daughters, Deedie (Jack Jr.) Tucker and Melissa Gibson, both of Paris and Gail (Dub) Malaise of Dallas, TX and three grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 at the Paris Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Tucker, Dub Malaise, Chris McIntosh, Jim Hayden, David Eads and Bill Fryer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Paris Annual Welfare Society, P.O. Box 222, Paris, KY 40362.

Hinton-Turner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

GERTRUDE GRAY

Gertrude Gray, 85, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008 at her residence.

Born Jan. 19, 1923 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William S. “Doc” and Ora Mae Claunch Bailey Burns.

She was a retired Cricketeer employee.

Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy L. Murphy of Harrodsburg and Glenda (Kenneth) Daugherty of Danville; two half-brothers, Danny and Bobby Bailey, both of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Tony Gray, five sisters, Louise McMillan, Ella Steele, Hattie Semones, Lettie Adams and Iva Norvell and a son-in-law, Earl D. Murphy.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Chaplain Tim Johnson officiating.

Pallbearers are Earl D. Murphy Jr., Ken Daugherty, Clay Brown, Chris Murphy, Clay Wilson, Lee Wilson, Don Smith and Shawn Gray.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kentucky Council for the Blind, 148 Vernon Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206 and/or Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

RONALD HUSTON

Ronald E. Huston, 67, of Tucson, AZ, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008.

Born Nov. 28, 1940, in Rapid City, SD, he was the son of the late Ray and Alice Huston and was the husband of Dianne Huston.

He was a graduate of Custer High School in Custer, SD, and the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City. He was a mechanical engineer and service representative for Caterpillar, Inc. for 32 years, a career that took him and his family to Peoria, IL; Hong Kong; Bangkok, Thailand, and Geneva, Switzerland.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Scott (Ellen) Huston of Winchester, VA; one daughter, Paige Huston of Harrodsburg; one brother, Duane (Linda) Huston of Tucson; one sister, Lorna Keltner of Tulsa, OK and three grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Sunday, Nov. 9, at Dove of Peace Lutheran Church in Tucson.

AMY MONTGOMERY

Amy Ruth Montgomery, 37, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 30, 1971 in Valdosta, GA, she was the daughter of John A. (Phyllis) Montgomery of Stanford and Ruth H. (Don) Huffman of Harrodsburg.

She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, survivors include: one son, Keghan W. G. Montgomery of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Kathryn K. A. Lawless of Harrodsburg; maternal grandmother, Dolores Hazlett of Danville; paternal grandmother, Margaret Montgomery of Danville; one brother, John C. Montgomery of Danville; two half-brothers, Robert Montgomery of Stanford and Richard Montgomery of Union City, TN; two step-brothers, Phillip and Greg Huffman, both of Harrodsburg and a special friend, Bennie Lawless of Harrodsburg.

An Appreciation of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Cox officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers are Linden and Roger Pullum, Brent Anderson, Benson Coleman, Phillip Huffman, Robert and Chris Montgomery, Jim Chandler and Greg Huffman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a memorial fund in her honor at Farmers National Bank.

JOSEPH PORTER

Joseph Louis Porter, 81, died Friday, October 31, 2008, in IN after an illness.

Porter retired as a SSGT after 20 years in the United States Army. He served in World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the VFW Post, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and the Retired Serviceman's Club. He also served 18 years with the Postal Service.

Survivors include: one son, Rev. Christopher Porter of VA; two daughters, Barbara Porter McDuffie and Jacqueline Porter Ford, both of VA; three stepchildren, Charles Lewis of IN, Tina Lewis of Springfield and Rose Lewis of Louisville; two brothers, Steve and Spalding Porter, both of Lebanon; six sisters, Rose Lee Graves, Lucy Brown, Grace Owens and Allie Calhoun, all of Lebanon; Jane Chenault of Harrodsburg and Mary Webster of Louisville; a special friend, Jo Ella Maron; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lydia Clements Porter, three brothers, Thomas, Charles and Clement Porter, three sisters, Josephine Johnson and Mary and Lily Mae Porter, and one great-grandchild, Jordan Porter.

Funeral Mass was held Wednesday Nov. 5 at the St. Augustine Catholic Church, Lebanon, with burial in Lebanon National Cemetery. Father John Judie officiated and the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard provided military honors.

Pallbearers were David Webster, George Smith, James and Melvin Porter, Pat O'Neal and Raymond Furman.

Honorary pallbearers were Tyrone, Joe and Charles Porter Jr.

Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.
