PHILLIP CREECH

Phillip Dale Creech, 50, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at his residence after a short illness.

Born Dec. 18, 1958 in Fayette County, he is the son of Ella Louise Creech of Harrodsburg and the late Estill Creech, Jr.

He attended Lafayette High School in Lexington, was a musician (having played with the early band named Exile), an artist, a cook and general laborer at the Harrod Assisted Living Center in Harrodsburg and attended the Opera House Tabernacle on Main Street in Harrodsburg.

In addition to his mother, survivors include: one brother, Eric Creech of South Carolina; three sisters, Cathy (Pete) Dennen, Cheryl Atkinson and Angela Creech, all of Harrodsburg and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no public visitation.

GENEVA DUNN

Geneva Dunn, 91, died Monday, Jan 5, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center after a long illness.

Born Feb. 24, 1917 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Raymond Crockett and Mattie Wilson Short and was the widow of William “Jim Bo” Dunn.

She was a housewife and a member of the St. Peter AME Church in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include: one sister, Bessie Esterland of Lexington and several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation.

HENRY EDMONDSON

Henry Nathan “Buddy” Edmondson, 80, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at his residence.

He was the husband of the late Hazel Marie Parker Edmondson and son of the late Marion Francis and Sadie Dean Edmondson.

He was the owner of Edmondson Plumbing & Heating Supply in Lawrenceburg for 57 years and was a former member of the Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church.

Mr. Edmondson is survived by: one son, Alan (Julia) Edmondson of Lawrenceburg; three grandsons, Nathan (Leslie) Edmondson, Matthew Edmondson, and John Edmondson, all of Lawrenceburg; two great grandchildren, Bryce and Sophie Edmondson; three brothers, Gene Edmondson of Mercer County, Marion Edmondson of Versailles, and Elmer Wilgus “Wig” Edmondson of Anderson County.

He was preceded in death by a half brother, Clifton Stine.

Funeral service was held Sunday, January 4, 2009 at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Jack Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Bob Smith, Danny Willard, Joe Denny, Jimmy Desponett, Maurice Corn and Wayne Holland.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort, KY 40601.

HULDA HAFLEY

Hulda Mae Hafley, 68, of Junction City, died Friday, January 2, 2009.

Born December 13, 1940 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Ray and Mary Ellen Gordon Hafley.

She was a member of Ellisburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two brothers, Roy and Levi Hafley, both of Louisville; three sisters, Dorothy Spears of Moreland, Carol East of Lancaster and Jane Reed of Harrodsburg; and nieces and nephews.

Services were held Monday, January 5, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland.

VIRGINIA HELM

Virginia Helm, 102, of Danville, died Jan. 2, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born July 23, 1906 in Parksville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Hardin and Mary Moore Helm.

She was retired after Forty-Two Years from Kentucky School for the Deaf, having served as an Executive Secretary to four superintendents from the late 1920s to the early 1970s and was a member of the First Christian Church in Danville.

Survivors include: one brother, Stanley Helm of Danville; four nephews, Wayne Westerfield of Harrodsburg, John Cocanougher of Oxford, OH, H.P. Durham of Prescott, AZ and Donald Helm of Fish Creek, WI; two nieces, Lillian Scoyen of Palo Alto, CA and Mary Jo Helm of Fish Creek, WI and several great nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at the Parksville Cemetery with Larry Camic officiating.

Pallbearers were John Cocanougher, Larry Camic, Wayne Westerfield, Bruce Helm, John Helm and Stuart Powell.

Honorary pallbearers were McDowell Place of Danville Staff, Harrodsburg Health Care Center Staff, G.G. Harmon, Bob Reister, Sr. and Bill Dishman.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Christian Church, P.O. Box 1398, Danville, KY 40422-1557 and/or Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40423.

GENEVA LITTERAL

Geneva B. Litteral, 92, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset.

Born March 21, 1916 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late George Thomas and Louisa Katherine Pinkston Litteral.

She was retired from Beaumont Inn and was a member of the Mt. Freedom Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one sister Beatrice L. Hourigan of Harrodsburg; two nephews, Donald Litteral of Cornishville and Robbie Litteral of Danville; one niece, Hilda Mae Pike of Lexington and several great nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Jamie Chesser officiating. Burial was in Grapevine Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bro. Jamie Chesser, Brian Burns and Jimmy Dale Hawthorne.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

HELEN LILLY

Helen Ann Ketron Lilly, 100, widow of John M. Lilly, died Friday, 1/2/2009 at her home in Georgetown.

She was born in McAfee, KY on July 28, 1908 to the late Hugh and Ellie T. Dean Ketron.

She is survived by a niece Ann K. Kabler of Mercer County, KY and special friends, Nelda Skinner and James McCoy, both of Georgetown.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 5, at Richmond Cemetery, with Rev. Gaither Bailey officiating.

Arrangements were with Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home, Georgetown.

WANDA MANN

Wanda Baker Mann, 60, of Springfield, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at her residence.

Born Feb. 24, 1948 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Naomi Byrd Baker.

She was a retired employee of General electric.

Survivors include: two sons, Tom (Buffy) Mann and Jonathan (Jennifer) Mann; two brothers, Leroy Baker of Harrodsburg and Bobby (Charlotte) Baker of Burgin and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Rudolph Baker.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. John McDaniel officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Willisburg.

Pallbearers were James C. Yaste, Terry McIlvoy, Randy Sims, Jeremy Yaste, Alex McIlvoy and Paul Daniel Brady.

Honorary pallbearers were Steven Yaste, David Yaste, Nick McIlvoy, Matthew McIlvoy, Cody McIlvoy and Lee Sims.

Carey and Son Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

WILLIS PEAVLER

Willis Dale Peavler, 51, of Harrodsburg died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 after a brief illness.

Born Nov. 28, 1957 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Donald Ray Peavler and Phyllis Jean Perkins Peavler.

He was a retired employee for the Kentucky Department of Highways, a farmer, an associate for Sims Auction and Realty Company, a member of the Masonic Lodge # 777 F & AM, the Wilderness Shrine Club, member of the Harrodsburg Order of Eastern Star # 309, the Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington and a member of the Danville 1st Church of God.

In addition to his mother and father, survivors include: two sons, Justin Dale Peavler and Kevin Dale Peavler, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Donald Wayne Peavler and Craig Allen Peavler, both of Harrodsburg and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, William Ray Peavler, a brother, Gary Lee Peavler, a sister, Jo Ella Peavler and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 at the 1st Church of God in Danville, 3220 Harrodsburg Road in Danville. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers were Roger Sims, Ed Hudson, Mark Elliott, Gene Lawson, Dale Shellhammer, Jim Hogue and David Proctor.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Harrodsburg Masonic Lodge, Members of the Wilderness Shrine Club and Members of the Lexington Oleika Shrine Temple.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital in Lexington or to the William Ray Peavler Scholarship Fund C/O The Mercer County Senior High School, 1124 Moberly Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

EUGENIA ROGERS

Eugenia Carol Rogers, 54, died Jan. 1, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born June 4, 1954 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Yocum and Bessie Lunsford Sires.

She was a member of Braxton Baptist Mission Church and was an Automount Operator for Osram Sylvania.

Survivors include: two daughters, Lisa Riddle of Frankfort and Dena Cornish of Lawrenceburg; three sons, Lonnie Cornish, Jr., Leslie Rogers and John Rogers, all of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Charles J. Yocum of Rochester, IN and Sidney Yocum of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Nancy Louise Yocum and Betsy Logue.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at the Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery with Bro. James Harley officiating.

Pallbearers were Bart Riddle, Mathew Sims, Dustin Griffieth, Kinney Hicks, Keith Peach and Travis Logue.

LENA ROYALTY

Lena Mae Royalty, 91, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at the Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles.

Born July 20, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Hattie Downey Hulett and the widow of James Royalty.

She was a Charter Member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church and the founding Trustee of Royalty Cemetery in Bohon.

Survivors include: two sons, James (Kerry) Royalty of Versailles and Jerry Lee (Ann K.) Royalty of Louisville; one daughter, Mary Agnes (Lonnie) Hatchel of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur Hulett. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Michael Hatchel, George Buchanan, William Sparks, Ed Berg, Bud Royalty, J. L. Devine, Jerry Burns, Richard Steele and Glenn Preston.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort KY 40601 and Royalty Cemetery Trust Fund, c/ o Whitaker Bank, 211 S. Main Street, Harrodsburg KY 40330.
