Charles Worthington, dedicated to Walton
Charles "Chick" Worthington was once the fire chief of Walton's volunteer fire department. He served on the Walton-Verona school board during a major building program. And he was a former Walton councilman.
Worthington, 83, of Walton, was always trying to improve his community.
"He looked for ways to encourage progress and encourage people," said a daughter, Linda Crutcher of Pensacola, Fla. "He was always willing to lend a helping hand."
Mr. Worthington died at 8 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.
He was a retired machinist with R.A. Jones Co. in Crescent Springs and a former clerk with Conrad Hardware Store in Walton. He was a member of Walton Christian Church.
Mr. Worthington served as Walton city judge in the early 1950s and was a past member of Walton Lions Club. He was made an honorary fire chief after he retired.
"For most of my life at home, he worked at the hardware store in town until 6 o'clock every day," said Mrs. Crutcher. "He was also a faithful member of the fire department and the life squad, and he dedicated a lot of time to them, too. He was always excited when they could get a new truck for the fire department . . . I never felt that (his volunteer work) took him away from us. I felt that made him a greater part of us."
His wife, Mary Worthington, died in 1995.
Other survivors include a daughter, Pat Medley of Walton; a sister, Louise Loyd of Indianapolis; brothers, Robert Worthington of Edgewater Park, N.J., and Paul Worthington of Whitley City; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Harold "Jake" Brown, 72, of Florence, died Sunday at his home. He was a superintendent of Martin-Marietta Aggregates, Cincinnati, and a member of Belleview Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Brown; and sisters, Laverne Stephens of Florence and Margie Kelly of Burlington.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery.

Vivian D. Chappell, 58, of Crittenden, died at 2:29 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Willard Chappell; a son, David Chappell of Gallatin County; daughters, Vickie Ridner and Connie Bentley, both of Dry Ridge, Darlene Lee of Covington and Brenda Stipp of Taylor Mill; her mother, Vivian Surgener of Taylor Mill; brothers, David Surgener of Covington and Gerald Surgener of Taylor Mill; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will be 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Jessica L. Cuneo, 15, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a freshman at Campbell County High School and a member of Church of the Nazarene, Highland Heights. She was a member of the school Sign Language Club, a restaurant worker and an Intramural League softball player.
Survivors include her father, David Cuneo of Cold Spring; her mother and stepfather, Nancy and Don Seibers of Highland Heights; a sister, Jennifer Cuneo of Highland Heights; half-sisters, Jerrica Cuneo and Jamie Watkins, both of Highland Heights, and Grace Caudill of Miamisburg, Ohio; a step-brother, Stephen Cuneo of Dayton; a half-brother, Jerry Jones of Springfield, Ohio; and a step-grandmother, Elizabeth Leath of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.

Lorraine A. Foster, 64, of Newport, died at 10:01 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was a retired key punch operator with Disabled American Veterans, Cold Spring. Her husband, Franklin E. Foster, died in 1992.
Survivors include a son, David Polly of Cincinnati; a daughter, Virginia "Ginger" Sundstrom of Independence; a stepson, Jack Foster of Tampa, Fla.; stepdaughters, Barbara Murphy of San Francisco and JoAnn Kerner of Tampa, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Marie A. Frohlich, 97, of Covington, died at 11:07 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. She was a retired office worker with Model Laundry Services, Cincinnati, and a member of Cathedral Basilica of Assumption, Covington. She was a member of the church Ladies Society.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Edith Reynolds Gibson, 86, of Booneville, died Sunday at Ousley County Health Care Center in Booneville. She was a retired employee of Disabled American Veterans, Cold Spring. Her husband, Fred Gibson, died in 1957. A daughter, Carol Goforth, died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon McIntosh of Booneville; sons, Forest Gibson and Loran Gibson, both of Florence; a brother, Stanley Reynolds of Booneville; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

George E. Haughaboo, 94, of Edgewood, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. He was a retired locomotive engineer with C&O Railroad and a member of Beginnings Presbyterian Church, Ft. Wright. He was a member of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Anderson Haughaboo of Edgewood; sons, Dick Haughaboo of Edgewood and David Haughaboo of Cater, Ala.; and five grandchildren.

Wendell E. Kaufmann, 72, of Edgewood, died Sunday at his home. He was a retired terminal operator with Ashland Oil Co. and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Latonia. He was a member of Masonic Lodge in Cheviot, Ohio, and a member of Low 12 Club in Cheviot. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Kupper Kaufmann; a son, Robert William Kaufmann of Hartwell, Ohio; a daughter, Sharon Gail Evans of Salem, Va.; and five grandchildren.

Leslie G. Kyle Jr., 72, of Ft. Thomas, died at 6:08 a.m. Monday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was president of Harvey Bros. Inc., Cincinnati, and a member of Ft. Thomas Lodge No. 808 F&AM. He also was a member of Ft. Thomas Lions Club, Highland Country Club and Highlands High School Boosters Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Harvey Kyle; daughters, Leslie A. Kyle of Ft. Thomas and Marsha J. Kyle of Scienz, France; sons, Charles D. Kyle of Albuquerque, Roger L. Kyle of Naples, Fla., and Stephen H. Kyle of Grants Lick; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Rita M. Fleck Krumpelman, 80, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker, and a volunteer at the hospital. Her husband, George W. Krumpelman, died in 1994.
Survivors include sons, William L. Krumpelman of Post Falls, Idaho, John E. Krumpelman of Florence and Joseph C. Krumpelman of Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Mary Jean Webb of Independence and Mary Jane Carrello of North Beach, Md.; a sister, Alma Deddens of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
