DAVIS TURNER III

Davis M. Turner III, 59, husband of Shirley Young Turner, died Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born in Lexington, he was the son of Patricia Ann Turner and the late Davis M. Turner, Jr.

He was the owner of Quality Towing and was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God.

Survivors, other than his wife, include: one son, Davis M. (Crystal) Turner IV; two step-sons, Michael R. (Sherry) Baker, and Ken Baker; nine grandchildren, Chelsea, Kimberly, Alyssa, Autumn, Austin, Haley, Bradley, Aaron and Landon; two brothers, Bill (Helen ) Turner, and Paul Turner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Ann Turner and Deborah Kay Turner.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 13, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. Burial will be in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

NINA UNDERWOOD

Nina Underwood, 51, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center in Danville.

Born Jan. 7, 1958 in Taylor County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Cecil Wethington and Rose Bernice Wethington and was the wife of Tim Underwood.

She was an employee at Hitachi and a member of the St. Bernard Catholic Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one daughter, Tanya (Rodney) Cloyd of Harrodsburg; one son, Jonathan (Sunshine) Underwood of Danville; four sisters, Paulita Cooper of Liberty, Matilda Sapp of Louisville, Lois MacLaren of Danville and Faye Clements of Liberty; five brothers, Adrian Wethington of Liberty, Curtis Wethington of Russell Springs, Dale Wethington of Frankfort, Tom Wethington of Hustonville and David Wethington of Liberty and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Wethington.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Feb. 10 at the St. Bernard Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Dolan officiating. Burial was in St. Bernard Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brian Cloyd, Aaron Reese, Mike Underwood, Bobby Wethington, Ed Sapp and Brandon Chadwell.

McKinney-Brown Funeral Home in Liberty was in charge of the arrangements.

RONALD WILHAM

Ronald J. Wilham, 65, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 at his home in Harrodsburg.

Born April 27, 1943 in Gainesville, TX, he was the son of the late J.C. and Katherine Davis Wilham and was the husband of Daphyne "Tootie" Wilham.

He was a retired auto body man for Wade Motors & Derring's Body Shop, a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church and a member of the NRA.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Rhonda (Ricky) Mobley, Jo (Mike) Savage and Tina (Brad) Sallee; one son, Keith (Becky) Wilham; one sister, Pat (David) Miller; one brother, Larry (Carla) Wilham Sr; one brother-in-law, Darrel Watts; a mother-in-law, Dorothy "Little Bit" Price; thirteen Grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Brad King officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Brad Mobley, Ronnie Wilham, Josh Savage, Terry Chester, Larry Wilham, Shane Watts and Brandon Sallee.

Honorary pallbearers were Clark Wilham, Justin Savage, Jacob Savage, Gavin Sallee, Wayne Boyd, Rick Presley, Gary Rothwell, Chad Kenny, Gary Case and Leon "Butter Ball" Roy.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice or Meals on Wheels.

FLORENCE ARNOLD

Willie Florence Arnold, 89, of Perryville, died Thursday February 12, 2009 in Danville.

Born March 7, 1919, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Addie Whitehouse Arnold.

Florence was a retired employee of James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, a member of Perryville United Methodist Church and a member of the Boyle County Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star No. 359.

Survivors include a sister, Beatrice (Godbey) Whitehouse of Danville; a brother, Rual (Nellie) Arnold of Perryville; three nephews, William (Gloria) Powell of Perryville, Stuart Arnold of London and Kenneth (Tina) Whitehouse of Danville; and one niece, Phyllis Nickoson of Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Nancy Arnold Powell, and a nephew, Henry Powell.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 15, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville by Rev. Kenneth Whitehouse, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Whitehouse, Chad and Scott Powell, Mark and Trent Bottom and Buddy Lutes.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Perryville United Methodist Church.

BOBBY HURST

Bobby Earl Hurst, 65, of Salvisa, formerly of Stanford died Feb. 12, 2009 in Okeechobee, FL. Born Aug. 24, 1943 in Stanford, he was the son of Ida Naylor Hurst and the late Lincoln Hurst. He was retired from IBM and was a former employee of Fayette County Schools.

Survivors include his mother, Ida Hurst of Stanford; one son, David (Jeannie Gayle) Hurst of Lancaster; two sisters, Gladys (George) Cunningham of Danville and Joan Rudd of Palm Coast, FL; two grandchildren, and a special friend and companion, Bonnie Cunningham of Salvisa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lincoln Hurst; a brother, Ray Hurst; and sister, Laverne Smith Fox.

Services were at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 19 at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Rev. Don Burton with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Cunningham, Ronnie Smith, Scott Young, Bobby Ellis, Bill Kelly and Glenn Carter.

Honorary pallbearers were Eliza and Caleb Hurst. Memorial contributions are suggested to Ft. Logan Cooperative Ministries, 302 Church Street, Stanford, KY 40484.

PATRICIA MILLER

Patricia Miller, 64, 758 High St., Harrodsburg, wife of David Miller, died Tuesday at her home.

Born December 8, 1944, in Mercer Co., she was the daughter of the late J. C. and Katherine Davis Wilham. She was a retired Corning employee and a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church.

Other survivors include: a son, Terry ( Donna) Chester, Junction City; a daughter, Lesha Curtsinger, Harrodsburg; a stepson, Stewart (Zandra) Miller, Washington D.C.; two stepdaughters, Tammy Miller Mulberry and Heather Miller (Ross) Hendricks, both of Georgetown; a brother, Larry (Carla) Wilham, Harrodsburg; a sister-in-law, Tootie Wilham, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Timmy Chester, a brother, a grandson, Chris Tewmey, and a brother, Ronnie Wilham.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Brad King & Ricky Mobley officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Ransdell’s.

Pallbearers are Justin and Kyle Chester, Mike and Josh Savage, Harry Gilmore, and Chad Votaw.

Honorary bearers are Larry Wilham, Rhonda Mobley, and Mike Tewmey.

NANCY MULLINS

Nancy Carole Mullins, 73 died Saturday Feb. 21, 2009 at the Glasgow State Nursing Facility after a lengthy illness.

Born October 5, 1935 in Rockcastle County, she was the daughter of the late William Walter and Nannie Mae Hall Mullins. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include her daughter, Billie Carole Downey (Richard) Hullings of Harrodsburg; one son, Chester (Gwen) Downey, III of Camden, AR; a former husband, Chester Downey, Jr. of Prescott Valley, AZ, nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two nephews, and several aunts and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one daughter. Nancy Kristina Downey, one son, Timothy William Walter Downey, a granddaughter and one brother, William Darrell Mullins, Sr.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Terry Morrison officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford with Chester Downey, III, Rich Hullings, Richie Hullings, John-Luke Hullings, Daniel Hullings, and Justin Knecht serving as pallbearers.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideons International, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 and/or the American Lung Association, 1636 Nicholasville Road, Suite 1, Lexington, KY 40503.

MERTY SCOTT

Merty Baker Scott, 86, of Circle Drive, Willisburg, passed away at 6:50 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at her home.

A native of Washington County, she was born on April 16, 1922 to the late Andrew and Grace Hume Baker.

She was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J. W. Scott on Sept. 6, 2008; a daughter, Glenda Baker on Sept. 19, 1976; a sister, Nettie Cooksey; and three brothers, Robert, Marvin and Gilbert Junior Baker.

Survivors include four daughters, Donna (Bob) Harlow of Mt. Washington , Alice (Kenneth) Pratt of Liberty, Bonnie (Jimmy) Warner of Bloomfield and Janice (Jerry) Bottom of Mackville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville Baker of Louisville; and two sisters, Betty Mitchell of Louisville and Sueanna (Quentin) Bishop of Springfield.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 20 at the Willisburg Baptist Church with Rev. J. W. Hatfield, the church pastor, officiating.

Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.

Honorary pallbearers were Hope Devine, Amy Hensley, Allison Hamm, Jamie Smith and Lisa Winchester.

Casket bearers were Neal Devine, Darin Pratt, Cully Harlow, Brett Harlow, Jeremy Bottom and Cody Hensley.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

EZRA SIMPSON

Ezra Francis Simpson, 79, of Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

He was the son of the late Clarence Daniel and Alma Belle Preston Simpson.

He was a member of Salvisa Christian Church where he served as a trustee. He was a retired Independent Truck Driver.

He is survived by his wife, Hettie Etherington Simpson of Lawrenceburg; one daughter, Karen (Robert) West of Wilmore; one sister, Helen (Wayne) Reynolds of Salvisa; 2 step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sadie Simpson, and a brother, Grover Simpson.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Rev. Vicki Ray, and Bro. William A. Mounts officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eugene Traugott, Gary Reynolds, Gary Reynolds, Jr., Larry Stopher, David Brown, and Harry Morris.

Honorary bearers were Howard Fallis, Al Abner, and Ralph Cox.

Memorial contributions may be made to Salvisa Christian Church, c/o Larry Stopher, 4835 Louisville Road, Salvisa, KY 40372.

JOHN SHARP

John Seymour Sharp, 76, of Mudd Kelly Lane, Springfield, passed away at 3 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

A native of Boyle County, he was born on August 10, 1932 to the late Clarence and Anna Lee Claunch Sharp.

He was a member of the Indian Hills Christian Church, an employee of The Modine Company in Harrodsburg for 22 years and served several years in the Army National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Brewer Sharp and a son, Johnny Sharp.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Taylor Arnold Sharp; a son, Ron Sharp of Omaha, Neb.; a stepdaughter, Wanda (James) Thompson of Willisburg; two grandsons, Michael (Ellen) Sharp and John Devine of Lexington; one step-granddaughter, Bobbi-Lynn (Clinton) Thompson of Springfield; one step-grandson, Jim Wyland of Willisburg; and one step-great-grandchild, Lexi Thompson of Springfield.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 19 at Carey & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Bowen, minister of the Willisburg Christian Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Everett Hood, pastor of the Brush Grove Baptist Church.

Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Perryville.

Serving as pallbearers were Garland Scrogham, Philip Coulter, John Settles, David White , John Hilton and David Warner.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
