CHRISTOPHER TOLLIVER

Gunshot victim had local relatives

Christopher Tolliver, 31, of Lawrenceburg, the son of Lillian Fredrick and Harvey Lee Tolliver, both of Harrodsburg, was shot to death in a parking lot in Lexington last Thursday afternoon.

Charged with murder, wanton endangerment, fleeing police and leaving the scene of an accident is Toby Ray Lasure, 31, of Lexington.

According to a story in the "Lexington Herald Leader," police stated Tolliver and Lasure had their vehicles parked adjacent to one another near Joseph Beth Booksellers in Lexington Green when the shooting occurred. Lasure left the scene in his car, and after a high speed chase, during which Lasure struck another vehicle, he surrendered after a three-hour standoff near the Ridge Behavioral Health System near Man O' War Boulevard and Richmond Road.

According to the “Herald-Leader,” Tolliver was attempting to end a relationship with Lasure, and Lasure was known for having a volatile temper and had had emergency protective orders filed against him in the past by another man.

Officials said Lasure admitted to the shooting. However, he pled not guilty Friday in Fayette County District Court. A preliminary hearing is set for March 16.

The “Herald-Leader” stated that according to court records, Lasure worked at New Beginning Bluegrass Ind., a Fayette County non-profit agency that supplies housing and support services for people with mental illness. Lasure was also a part-time student in Eastern Kentucky University’s pre-nursing program.

Services for Tolliver were held Sunday at the Ransdell Funeral chapel with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
