BOBBY PEELE

Bobby Joe Peele, 73, husband of Wanda Jean Peele, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Hospice Care Center.

Born in Owen County, he was a son of the late Broaddus and Katherine Peele.

He was a retired firefighter having served a combined 40 years with the old county fire department and the merged Lexington City-County fire department.

Survivors other than his wife are: his children, Susie (Hobert) Riley, Salvisa, Mary Jane Richmond, Paris, Joe (Sheena) Peele, Paris, Shannette (Duane) Lee, Nicholasville, Billy (Donna) Dietz, Nicholasville, Jerry Wayne (Paula) Peele, Danville, and Donna (Chad) Ferrell, Lexington; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street, Lexington. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

EDMUND SATTERLY

Edmund Hugh Satterly, 83, of 607 Elizabeth Court, Harrodsburg, husband of Wanda Frazier Satterly, died Tuesday, at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born in Mercer County, Sept. 9, 1924, he was the son of the late Clellan and Lena Barnett Satterly. He was the retired owner and operator of Satterly’s Five Point Service Station, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, an Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, and was a former Mason and Optimist Club member.

Survivors other than his wife include: one son, Edmond Shane (Tomi) Satterly of Lexington; one daughter, Anne Frazier (Bill) Curry of Harrodsburg; one sister, Patsy (Tim) Owens of Atlanta; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Carolyn Satterly.

Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 11 a.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Dan Francis officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with military Rites.

Pallbearers were Bobby Thompson, Harold Gritton, Christian and Meagan Curry, Evan Satterly and Mark Watts.

Visitation was held Wednesday, March 18 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m.

LOUIS BANNISTER

Louis Bannister, 85, of Versailles, husband of Minnie Bell Bannister, died Thursday March 19, 2009 at his residence.

Born in Jessamine Co. January 1, 1924 he was the son of the late Perry & Mary Hammonds Bannister.

Mr. Bannister had been a farmer and was retired from IBM. He was a member of the Burgin Christian Church and attended Mt. Edwin Methodist church. Mr. Bannister was also an avid fisherman.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: two step daughters, Patty (Alvin) Duncan and Jo Ellen Wright both of Lexington; one step son, Lewis Ready of Versailles; four sisters, Ethel Corman of Versailles, Thelma Buffin of Lexington, Georgie Beasley of Henderson and Ruby Redmon of Nicholasville; five step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services was held Monday, March 23, at the Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, with Mac Whitnell officiating. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Casketbearers were Ron Bannister, Ben Walling, Jimmy Downing, Alvin Duncan, Lewis Ready and Mike Ready.

DAVIS BURRUS

Davis Franklin Burrus, 88, formerly of Mayo in Mercer County, died Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born March 15, 1921 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Raymond Mark and Hallie Mae (Jones) Burrus. He was a US Army veteran of WW II, a farmer, butchered beeves for many years, was employed at the Mercer County Senior Citizens Center and was a member, Deacon and Sunday school superintendent of the Dividing Ridge Baptist Church in Mayo.

Survivors include one brother, Jimmie Burrus of Jessamine County; three sisters: Opal Sigar, Elizabeth Burrus and Alma Meaux, all of Harrodsburg and several other relatives.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Parks Funeral Home with Bro. Herman Bradshaw officiating.

Burial will be in the Mayo Cemetery in Mercer County. Visitation Wednesday from 5 until 8 and also prior to the service Thursday at Parks Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Kelly Bugg, George Crumes, Ellison Meaux, Larry Meaux, Wayne Meaux and James Sigar.

GEORGIA DESHAZER

Georgia G. DeShazer, 62, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at her home in Harrodsburg.

Born August 27, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Retta Mae (Springate) Gritton. She was a retired housekeeper at the Kentucky School for the Deaf and attended Pioneer Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Rita DeShazer of Bardstown; two sons, John DeShazer of Harrodsburg and David DeShazer of Bardstown; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral was Monday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Andrew Dyer officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John DeShazer, Wendell Campbell, Roxanne Parks, David Hardin and Larry Meaux.

LOUISE FOGT

Louise Milburn Fogt, 88, widower of James Edward Fogt Sr., died Saturday, March 21, 2009 in Harrodsburg.

Born June 21, 1920 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Florene Cocanougher Milburn. She was a former salesperson for the J. L. Hudson Department and was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Michigan.

Survivors include one son, James Edward (Vicki) Fogt Jr. of Harrodsburg; one brother, James Milburn of Burgin; one granddaughter, Melissa Fogt of Harrodsburg; and several other relatives.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Milburn and three brothers, Donald, Garland and Billy Milburn.

Graveside services were Tuesday at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. David Witten officiating.

BETTY HARDIN

Betty Jean Carpenter Hardin, 69, of Jeffersonville, widow of George Henry Carpenter, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born September 26, 1939 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Virginia Browning Riley. Hardin attended the Assembly of God church in Jeffersonville. She was a senior companion and had attended Midway College.

Survivors include one son, Robert (Connie) Carpenter of Jeffersonville; one daughter, Brenda (Francis) Edwards of Salvisa; five brothers, Charles (Geneva) Riley of Salvisa, Raymond (Judy) Riley, Joe (Judy) Riley, Donnie (Shirley) Riley, all of Lexington and Mike (Karen) Riley of Winchester; two sisters, Sue (Dan) Burkhart of Richmond and Aileen (Jim) Hisle of Winchester; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several other relatives.

A private funeral service will be held at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with burial in the Hebron Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

BRITTANY HATTER

Brittany Nicole Hatter, 21 of the Bethelridge community, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Russell County Hospital, Russell Springs.

She was born on June 25, 1987 in Somerset, the daughter of Timothy and Aligga Hatter Adams.

Brittany attended the Willow Springs Methodist Church and enjoyed books, TV, movies and the outdoors.

Brittany is survived by parents; a sister, Holly Hatter of Bethelridge; grandparents, Gary Hatter of Harrodsburg, and Sandra and Ricky Buis of Bethelridge; great-grandmother, Opal Hatter of Liberty; uncles, Christopher (Jennifer) Hatter of Bethelridge, and Andrew (and Erica) Hatter of Somerset; great aunts, great uncles, numerous cousins; and her caregivers, Joann and Ron Kidder of Liberty.

Visitation for Brittany will be held Thursday, March 26, after 6 p.m. at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset and then Friday, after 12 noon at the Bethelridge United Methodist Church until time for services.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27, at 2 p.m. at the Bethelridge United Methodist Church, Bethelridge, with Bro. Creech Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Bethelridge Cemetery.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be given to the Brittany Nicole Memorial Fund c/o Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

GEORGIA HOLT

Georgia Evelyn Holt, 96, Bloomfield, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, Harrodsburg.

She was the former Evelyn Hood, a native of Nelson County, a retired employee of Cowden Manufacturing in Springfield and a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Woodson Holt and Glendel Holt, both of Mount Washington ; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two half sisters, Marjorie Scott, Chaplin, and Buford Curtsinger, Cincinnati.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie A. Holt; a grandson; her parents, Isaiah and Melissa Phillips Hood; three sisters, Clara Howard, Cordie Dedman and Eunice Hill; and five brothers, Jesse Hood, Clyde Hood, Ivan Hood, Hubert Hood and Sam Hood.

The funeral was held Saturday, March 21, at the Houghlin Funeral Home with burial in Highview Cemetery, Chaplin. Brother Jimmy Guthrie officiated.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Mount Zion Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Houghlin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LELA MCDONALD

Lela V. McDonald, 80, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at her home.

Born Nov. 2, 1928 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Lousel Justice and the late Lizzie Baxter. McDonald was a homemaker and had retired from Cricketeer and Mercer Dress Company. She was a member of the Hustonville Christian Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Burton of Lancaster, Connie Peavler of Harrodsburg and Caron Simpson of Harrodsburg; a brother, Shelby Justice of Waynesburg; two sisters, Betty Black of Ohio and Mary Chumbley of Indiana.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased in death by her husband, Odie McDonald; six brothers, Karl, Kermit, Hershel, Lousel Jr., Richard and Alger Justice; and a sister, Eula McDonald.

The funeral was Saturday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Don Burton officiating. Burial was at Luttrell Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Scotty Justice, Derek Gibson, Thomas Jones, Dallas Justice, Russell Justice and Paul Justice. Honorary pallbearers were Randall McDonald and Timothy McDonald.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lancaster Christian Church in memory of Lela McDonald.

EVERETT MERRIMAN

Everett J. Merriman, 74, of Poteet, TX, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009.

Born March 26, 1934, he was the son of the late Bessie Sallee Merriman and Claude Merriman. He was a member of Poteet First Baptist Church and former member of Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church of Harrodsburg.

Merriman retired from the Air Force with 26 years and retired as an electrician from Northpoint Training Center. He was a lifetime member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Air Force Sergeants Association and National Rifle Association. Merriman and his wife moved to Poteet from Harrodsburg in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Manetta Rutledge Merriman of Poteet; a son, James K. (Sandra) Merriman of Dallas; a daughter, Deborah Sanders of Aztec, NM; a stepdaughter, Deborah (Richard) Hayes of Somerset, TX; a brother, Arnold (Juanita) Merriman of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Doyle and Helen Ryan of Harrodsburg and Edith (Edward) Drury of Nicholasville; one sister-in-law, Edna Merriman; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased in death by one brother, Charles Merriman.

The funeral was held Friday, March 20 at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, TX. Burial was in the Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet, TX.

BOBBY POTTS

Rev. Bobby Lee Potts, 77, of East Drive in Danville, died Saturday, March 21, 2009, at his residence.

Born Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1931, in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Earl and Hattie Conder Potts. Rev. Potts was a member and pastor at the Guiding Light Tabernacle Pentecostal Church of God in Harrodsburg. He was a retired assistant fire chief for the Danville Fire Department and a U.S. Army Veteran. He also served in the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Deloris Mavylene Chumbley Potts; four sons, Bobby Joe Potts of Junction City, David Earl Potts, Donald Lee (Cititia) Potts and Jerry (Janet) Potts, all of Danville; three sisters, Mabel Blair of Danville, Nancy Langdon of Georgia and Lois Evans of Lexington; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Henry and Donald Potts and two sisters, Louise Lanham and Joann Potts.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Roberts officiating. Burial followed in the Junction City Cemetery with military honors by the US Army Honor Guard.

Pallbearers were Tommy McGirr, Ricky Gipson, Mack Ransdell, Eugene Wilson, Ryan Funkhouser and Jeremy and Daniel Potts. Honorary pallbearers were Tevis, Leslie, Alice, Cititia and Janet Potts, Jerrica Potts Funkhouser, Jennifer Potts Brooks, Sandy Mitchell, Mike Thomas and Jim King.
