BETTY FLEISCHER

Betty Ellen French Fleischer, 84, widow of Harold Conrad Fleischer Jr., died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at her residence.

Born September 18, 1924 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Sumner Faville French and Bertha Ellen Anderson French. She was a homemaker, participated in community theater and had attended Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Harold Conrad (Jane) Fleischer III of San Antonio, TX; one daughter, Betsy Fleischer of Harrodsburg; one brother, Robert Sumner French of Appleton, WI; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Cpl. Jacob Rudeloff Fleischer.

Services were held Sunday at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Klemme officiating.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

LOWELL JACKSON

Lowell Thomas Jackson, 69, of 618 Lexington St., Harrodsburg, husband of Jane Gayle Bugg Jackson, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at the VA Medical Care in Lexington.

Born May 22, 1939 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Lowell Hobert and Sue Ann (Murphy) Jackson. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Shakertown Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Sherry Ann Doyle of Lexington; one son, Wayne Jackson of Harrodsburg; one sister, Betty Devine of Harrodsburg; one brother, Donnie Jackson of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Lowell Thomas “Tommy II” Jackson Jr. and a daughter, Anna Marie Jackson.

The funeral will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Brian Burkhead officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are pending.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and prior to the service Friday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted military Rites for Lowell Thomas Jackson at Spring Hill cemetery on April 10, 2009.

Those attending were Lucian Landers, Howard H. Howells II, Earl Sherrow, Floyd Shirley, Curtis Sherrow, Joe Harlow, Howard H. Howells Sr., James Tewmey, Tom Rappleye, Kris Stines and Zenah Teater III-bugler.

LILLIAN POWELL

Lillian Irene Powell, 85, Lebanon, died Monday, March 30, 2009, at Village of Lebanon Nursing Center.

Born May 28, 1923 in Marion County, Powell was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and a retired lunchroom worker with the Marion County School System.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, James Alvin Powell; parents, Wallace and Corda Dorsey McCarty; a sister, Mary Leella Wheeler; and a brother, Cecil McCarty.

Survivors include: three daughters, Mrs. Shirley (Robert) Lynch of Lebanon, Mrs. Carol (LeRoy) Hagan of Harrodsburg and Mrs. Bonnie Lee Newton of Mt. Sterling; two sons, Alvin (Frankie) Powell Jr. and Glenn Powell, both of Lebanon; a brother, J. B. McCarty of Lebanon; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at The Woodlawn Baptist Church in Lebanon with burial in Hayesville Cemetery, Gravel Switch. Rev. Victor Stansbury officiated.

Active pallbearers were Robby Lynch, Alvin Ray Michael and Lee Powell and Kevin and Ernie Newton Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Pam Mullins, Kathy O'Bryan, Tonya Holmes and Tammy Harley.

Bosley Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of arrangements.

FAYETTE RITCHEY

Fayette Owsley Ritchey, 66, died at his home, Monday, April 6, with his wife and family by his side.

Ritchey is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Priss; one daughter, Wendy (Patrick) McBride; two step daughters, Kristie (Brian) Bartley, and Wendie (Fred) Austin-Robinson; a step son, Luke Austin; one grandson, Andy McBride; a step granddaughter, Madeline Bartley, two step grandsons, Austin Bartley and Tyler Austin, and a niece, Debbie (Dave) Howard.

Ritchey was the son of the late Kay Walsh Ritchey Lunger and Henry Snow Ritchey, and the step son of the late Irvin Lunger.

Ritchey was a retired police sergeant of the Lexington Police Department. He loved to fish, read, talk and visit with friends, and go antiquing, especially to find any Gulf Oil memorabilia due to his father’s work with that company. Ritchey was a member of the Central Christian Church, Lexington.

Visitation Wednesday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, at the chapel with burial in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

NELLIE SHOUSE

Nellie E. Shouse, 88, of Shelbyville died Thursday, April 2, 2009.

She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Erchall B. Shouse and sons, E.B. "Junie" Shouse Jr., and Robert “Bobby” Shouse.

She is survived by: one sister, Addie Darland, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, Wayne Shouse, Finchville; Jimmy and Mike Shouse, Waddy; Stacie Colgan, Flemingsburg; Stephanie Shouse, Tennessee; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were conducted Monday, April 6, at the Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with Rev. Don Waterfill officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to New Hope Baptist Church.

STANLEY SMITH

Stanley Alfred Smith, 46, died Monday April 6, 2009.

Born May 16, 1962 in Danville, he was the son of Alfred E. and Alice Phillips Smith.

He was a 1980 graduate of Danville High School, retired from Rose’s Department Store and was a member of Shelby City Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by: his fiancé; Jennie Preston of Danville; one sister, Lisa (Cecil) Hardin of Danville; a special aunt and uncle, Leona (Stanley) Bryant of Harrodsburg and Eugene Phillips of Junction City; and two nephews, Bradley and Brandon Hardin.

A graveside service was conducted Wednesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at Bellevue Cemetery with Rev. Travis Alltop.

The family requests memorial donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HILDRETH WHITT

Hildreth Ann Whitt, 60, of 1099 Jackson Pk., Harrodsburg, wife of John Henry Whitt, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born October 25, 1948 in Lowell, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Winifred (Bainton) Esterberg Jr. She was a former Haggin Memorial Hospital nurse and U.S. naval veteran of the Vietname War.

In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Chris Whitt of Harrodsburg; one stepson, Gary Whitt; one stepdaughter, Kathy Hassie Case and two grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Saturday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Brad King and Gary Story officiating.

JIMMY BAKER SR.

Jimmy Lee Baker Sr., 63, of Crab Orchard, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

He was born in Lincoln County on December 29, 1945, the son of the late Earl and Virginia Ledford Baker.

Survivors include: four daughters, Regina Fay (Donelle) Smith of Stanford, Sonya Gale Baker of Harrodsburg and Melissa (Brian) Stringfield, both of Harrodsburg, and Desria (Travis) Irvin of Burgin; one son, Jimmy Lee (Novella) Baker Jr. of Stanford; two brothers, Dennis Baker of Crab Orchard and Earl Baker of Nicholasville; one sister, Doris Elaine Baker of Waco; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Steven Lynn Baker.

Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, April 14, at the McKnight Funeral Home Chapel, Crab Orchard, with Bro. Donnie Irvin officiating. Burial will be in Hopkins Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley American Legion Post 18 of Stanford.

BILLY BLACKETER

Billy Joe Blacketer Sr., 65, husband of Priscilla Ann Broce Blacketer, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born July 14, 1943 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Roy J. and Beulah Sims Blacketer. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietname War, a retired Auto Body Repairman at Roberts Auto Sales and Nevada Auto Sales and a member of the Benton Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Billy Joe (Mary Elizabeth) Blacketer Jr. of Science Hill; one daughter, Rhonda Ann Robinson of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Connie (Joann) Blacketer and Bobby (Joyce) Blacketer, both of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Kathy (Drew) Stratton of Harrodsburg, Laura (Troy) Smith of Anderson County and Elizabeth Butler of Nicholasville; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Ricky, Terry and Roy Blacketer Jr., and two sisters, Jean Adams and Margaret Blacketer.

The funeral was conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Gray officiating. Burial was in the Battle Cemetery in Washington County.

Pallbearers were Cory Blacketer, Aaron Blacketer, Justin Robinson, Adam Robinson, Johnny Hodge and Ricky Gilliam.

MARTHA BOTTOMS

Martha Frances Butler Bottoms, 88, of Stanford died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1920, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest Lee and Josie Bugg Butler and the widow of Gilbert Cecil Bottoms.

Mrs. Bottoms was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church in Mercer County. She was a former employee of Fort Logan Hospital and retired from Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed yard work and reading.

Survivors include: one son, Charles (Nancy Kleckner) Bottoms of Danville; one daughter, Linda (Winslow) Hillis of Bone Cave, TN; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Shirley Martin, and a grandson, Robert Martin.

An Appreciation of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Bro. Gary Story officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Eric Bottoms, Jay Jackson, Scotty Chambers, Dale Smith, Mark Hill and David Hillis.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Glen Click, Ray Green and Bobby Durham.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice.

Arrangements entrusted to Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home.

LOUISE CLEMENTS

Louise “Prudie” Clements of Middleburg died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at her home. She was 79.

Born on Feb. 11, 1930 in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Liza Black Clements.

Survivors include: her 11 caregivers, Kathy and Bimbo Wethington, Brent Poff, and Jennifer Helm, all of Middleburg, Jerry Poff of Harrodsburg, Oliver Poff of Dunnville, Raymond Poff of Kings Mountain, Glen, Bruce and Eddie Dale Poff, all of Liberty, and Nancy Ann Luttrell of Hustonville; two brothers, Arlis Clements of Liberty and Lewis Clements of Middleburg; and two sisters, Lola Kimbrell of Cincinnati and Christine Weddle of Liberty.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Poff and Ola Clements.

Funeral services were helsd Wednesday, April 15, at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, Liberty, by Bro. Jeff Edwards and Bro. Tim Brown.

Burial will be in Calhoun Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her great-nephews, Chris Wethington, Casey Wethington, Jason Poff, Cody Helm and Joey Marples.
