KENNETH DEARING

Kenneth Ray Dearing, 34, son of Thomas E. and Sandra Settles Dearing, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009.

Born February 17, 1975 in Lebanon, he was a former employee of Wal-Mart and a member of the Southside Christian Church. He was a graduate of Lexington Vo-Tech.

In addition to his parents, survivors include two brothers, Robert (Angie) Dearing of Salvisa and Joseph Dearing of Danville; one sister, Michelle (Brian) Grider of Harrodsburg; several nieces and nephews and one great-nephew.

Private services will be held at the Peter’s Cemetery.

VIOLA DERRINGER

Viola Myrtle Derringer of Liberty died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at her residence. She was 82.

Born on April 10, 1926 in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Jason and Clara Barlow Taylor.

She was a nurse’s aide and member of Block Pentecostal Church. She was the widow of Willie Derringer.

Survivors include: seven daughters, Marilyn Perkins, Clara Lee and Merida Simmons, all of Liberty, Willie Bell Brown of Greenwood, IN, Valerie Merado of Indianapolis, IN, Terica Derringer of Columbia and Elizabeth Fox of Russell Springs; two sisters, Ella Cross of Stanford and Nora Denson of Perryville; two brothers, Mitchell Taylor of Liberty and Charlie Taylor of Harrodsburg; 25 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and her caregivers, Tina Adams, Chrystal Sego, Ann Rodgers and Rachel Hack.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lowell, Bradley, Osby and Donnie Taylor, and four sisters, Oma Thompson, Willie Bell Tapscott, Lillie May Taylor and Ova Edwards.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 5, at the Bartle Funeral Home Chapel in Liberty by Bro. Jimmy Brown. Burial was in Tapscott Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terica Derringer, Valerie Merado, Matthew and Joseph Brown, Derick and Jacob Byrd, Kaleb Brown and Jake McEndree.

BETTY FLEISCHER

Betty Ellen French Fleischer, 84, widow of Harold Conrad Fleischer Jr., died Saturday, April 4, 2009 at her residence.

Born September 18, 1924 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Sumner Faville French and Bertha Ellen Anderson French. She was a homemaker, participated in community theater and had attended Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Harold Conrad (Jane) Fleischer III of San Antonio, TX; one daughter, Betsy Fleischer of Harrodsburg; one brother, Robert Sumner French of Appleton, WI; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Cpl. Jacob Rudeloff Fleischer.

Services were held Sunday, April 5 at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Klemme officiating.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MELISSA CLEMONS-HILLARD

Melissa "Missy" Kay Clemons-Hillard, 35, of Willisburg died Sunday, April 12, 2009 in Mercer County.

Born December 29, 1973, she was the daughter of Brenda Davis and the late Howard Clemons.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by a step-daughter, Kelsey Hillard; three brothers, Bobby Ward (Melissa Santos), Buddy Evans Jr. (Jacqlyn Harvy), Mikey Ward (Donna Sywkiw), two nephews, five nieces, several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The service was conducted at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 15 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Mike Blacketer officiating. Visitation 4-6 p.m. Wednesday. Cremation will take place following services.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Melissa K. Clemons Memorial Fund c/o Lawrenceburg National Bank, 128 South Main St., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

JOAN MORGAN

Joan Tarter Morgan, 75, of Lexington, widow of Ronald Lee Morgan, died Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Wesley Village Nursing Home in Wilmore.

Survivors include: three daughters, Rhonda (David) Franklin, Versailles, Robin (John) Murphy, Harrodsburg, and Beth (David) Hilen, Lexington; one son, Doug (Robin) Morgan, Nicholasville; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Audrey Richards, Russell Springs and Doris Wallace, Cincinnati, OH.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 14, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, with Rev. Raymond Bishop officiating. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, 1065 Dove Run Road, Suite 2, Lexington, KY 40502-3524, Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504 or Wesley Village Senior Living Community, 1125 Lexington Road, Wilmore, KY 40390.

WILLIAM PARKER

William E. “Bill” Parker, 57, of East Oak Street in Nicholasville died Sunday, April 12, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born Aug. 10, 1951 to William and Genolla W. Parker, he was a native of Highbridge. He was a self-employed craftsman.

He is survived by three children, W. Kelly (Tina) Parker, Kevin E. (Mindy) Parker, and Shaun Parker and his fiance` Heather Demaree, all of Harrodsburg; five sisters, Lois (Mike) Squires of TN, Brenda K. (Ron) Neal of Nicholasville, Sue Parker and her fiance` Otis Henderickson, Beverly (Jerry) Coyle of Nicholasville, Teresa (Lonnie) Rouse of Lancaster; a brother, Ronnie (Sheary) Parker of Nicholasville; six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 15 at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville with Rev. Mathew Atha officiating. Burial was in Wilmore Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Plunkett, James Todd, Danny Plunkett, Linville Lanigan, Charles Ray Houp, Ronnie Parker and his sons.

Honorary bearers were his grandchildren.

KENNETH POWELL

Kenneth Lester Powell, 61, husband of Judith Noel Powell, died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at his residence.

Born August 4, 1947 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Obie Lester and Lillie Alice Tyler Powell. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and was very active in Mercer County Relay for Life. He was retired from Wausau Paper and was a farmer.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Kendra Joy (Randy) Connelly of Salvisa, and Leigh Ann Robinson of Harrodsburg; one son Mark Noel Powell of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Judy (Ronnie) Stumph of Louisville and Sue Ann Burger of Forkland; several grandchildren.

The funeral was Tuesday, April 14 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Arnold Moon and Daryl Catlett officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donald Logue, Ritchey Brown, Roger Chadwell, Bobby Smith, Ricky McCrystal and Lloyd Hutto.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Mercer County Relay for Life, P.O. Box 411, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

TAUNYA RITCHIE

Taunya Jill Ritchie, 44, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at her residence.

Born Nov. 27, 1964 in Harlan County, she was the daughter of Norma Jean Keller Nelson of Harrodsburg and the late Robert E. Nelson. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

In addition to her mother, survivors include a daughter, Ashley Brooke Ritchie of Harrodsburg; a sister, Robin N. (Terry) Montgomery; two grandchildren, Jordan & Cheyenne Butler; a nephew, Brandon Montgomery; several aunts, uncles & cousins.

The funeral was Monday, April 13 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Terry Cornish officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Burgin, Charles Terry, Todd Powell, Steve Wilson, Jeff Noel and William Ritchie.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mercer Co. Humane Society or a charity of one’s choice.

MARTHA ROBINSON

Martha Celestus “Leck” Bowen Robinson, 77, of Lawrenceburg, widow of John H. Robinson, Jr. died unexpectedly Saturday, April 11, 2009 at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Mary Royalty, and Calvin Hunt Bowen, Sr.

She was a member of Antioch Christian Church, and former assembly line employee of Kentucky Overall and Union Underwear.

She was survived by: one son, Doug Robinson; three daughters, Judy (Lynn) Hutton, Kathy (Larry) Stevens, and Barbara (Terry) Mitchell, all of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Raymond (Vena) Bowen, Harrodsburg, and Calvin H. (Brenda) Bowen, Jr., Lawrenceburg; four sisters, Juanita Mitchell, Lawrenceburg, Lula Euliano, Meadeville, PA, Norma Jean (Eugene) Royalty, Lawrenceburg, and Bernice Thomas, Chaplain; four grandchildren, Sean (Patirica) Hutton, Patricia, Justin (Hillary) Stevens, Crystal (Kris) Grimes, and Aaron Stevens, all of Lawrenceburg; three great grandchildren,

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Anthony Wade Stevens, sister, Virginia Valley, and brother, Naamon Bowen.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 15, at the Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, with Bros. Albert Peach and Gary Snowden officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Gary Riley, Mark Robinson, Jared Rogers, Jimmy Mitchell, Keith Thomas and Brian Robinson.

Honorary bearers were Ronald Bowen, Robert Mitchell, Billy Ray Robinson, Glenn Valley and Larry Riley.

MARY SIMS

Mary C. (Weldon) Sims, 86, of Ellettsville, IN died Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at her home.

Born October 11, 1922 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late William E. Weldon and Nell (Barter) Weldon. She was the widow of Larue Sims. She had worked at Cords, LTD and Wurlitzer in DeKalb, IL and retired from food service at Northern Illinois University.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in DeKalb, Valley Baptist Church in Oswego,IL and Lifeway Baptist Church in Ellettsville, IN.

Sims is survived by a daughter, Patsy Hicks of Ellettsville, IN; grandchildren, nephews, and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sims was preceded in death by her two sisters, Elsie Weldon and Frances Jenkins; two brothers, David and Pelham Weldon.

The funeral was held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville, IN Saturday, April 11 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Albert officiating. Burial was Monday, April 13 at 11 a.m. at Fairview Memory Gardens in DeKalb, IL.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to Heartland Baptist Missions, 7000 N. Pensacola Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32505.

MARY SIMS

Mary C. (Weldon) Sims, 86, of Ellettsville passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 7i:07 p.m. At her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on October 11, 1922 in Burgin, KY to William E. Weldon and Nell (Barter) Weldon. She married Larue Sims in 1939 and worked at Cords, LTD and Wurlitzer in DeKalb and retired from food service at Northern Illinois University in 1985.

Born again in 1956 when she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior, Mary was an active member of First Baptist Church in DeKalb, IL, Valley Baptist Church in Oswego, IL, and until her health declined, at Lifeway Baptist Church in Ellettsville, IN. Many years were spent as a preschool and primary age Sunday school teacher. She loved to go on visitation and lead souls to Jesus. A passion in later years was handing out tracts to anyone who would accept one.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larue Sims; sisters, Elsie Weldon ad Frances Jenkins; and brothers, David and Pelham Weldon.

Mary is survived by daughter, Patsy Hicks of Ellettsville; granddaughter, Melinda (Steve) VonBoken of Bloomington; grandson, Joe Hicks (Jeanine) of Las Vegas, NV, Dan Hicks ()Sarah) of Earlville, IL and David Hicks of Aurora, IL; nephews, Estle Jenkins and Bobby Jenkins (Chris) f DeKalb, IL; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with the Reverend Kevin Albert officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 1:00 until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be on Monday, April 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Memory Gardens in DeKalb. IL.

Mary’s request is that in lieu of flowers, a donation be sent to a mission board very dear to her heart; Heartland Baptist Missions, 7000 N. Pensacola Blvd., Pensacola, FL 32505.

BETTIE BELL

Bettie Wainscott Bell, age 70, of Lawrenceburg, widow of Wallace Aubrey “ Chub” Bell, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

She was a member of Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church, and retired as records clerk for Fox Creek RECC, where she served for more than 30 years. She was also a former employee of Dollar General, and Rite Aid. She was a former member of the Bluegrass Railroad Museum, and an amateur radio operator. She was a 1958 graduate of Bridgeport High School.

She is survived by: her son, Emmett M. Bell, and his close friend, Rebecca Miles, of Salvisa; brother, Richard Wainscott, Berea; two grandchildren, Rachel Bell, and Emily Bell, Uniontown, PA.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Wainscott.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Robert F. Ehr officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Anderson County Senior Citizens Center, 160 Township Square, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.
