JAMES SHIPP

James L. Shipp, 82, of Versailles, husband of the late Nancy Flynn Shipp, died Friday April 17, 2009 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born in Versailles, May 10, 1926 he was the son of the late Clefford & Lavinia Shipp.

He had been auto parts manager for the former LaGrew Motors in Lexington for many years.

Mr. Shipp is survived by: two daughters, Liese (Harold) Coleman of Versailles and Lynn McIntosh of Harrodsburg; one son, Frank L. (Susan) Shipp of Upperville, VA; one sister, Bonnie (Tommy) Kay of Versailles; one brother, Hubert L. (Jane) Shipp of Versailles; and one sister-in-law, Joyce (Troy) Agee of Lexington. Two granddaughters and one great-grandson also survive.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21, at the Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill. Burial was in Rosecrest Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

CHARLES SHOUSE

Charles Curtis Shouse, 79, of Salvisa died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Manor in Harrodsburg.

Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Roy W. and Sarah Rose Edgar Shouse.

Shouse was a member of the Glensboro Christian Church and a retired electrician with Kentucky Utilities. He was a member of the Salvisa Ruritan Club, St. John's Masonic Lodge #125 in Salvisa and Oleika Shrine Temple. He was Honorary Mayor of Salvisa, a volunteer with the Salvisa Fire Department and a graduate of Lawrenceburg City High School.

He is survived by his wife, June Woods Shouse; a daughter, Beverly (Ed) Desmond of Frankfort; a son, Charles Davis "Dave" Shouse of Titusville, FL; four sisters, Mary Shouse Peyton, Nellie (Charles Jr.) Woods, Virginia (Harold) Carter, all of Lawrenceburg and Dorcas Shouse Beavers of New Salisburg, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Shouse.

Graveside services were held Saturday, April 18 at the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with Bro. Randy Peyton officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Howard Fallis, J.B. Claunch, Charlie Overstreet, Charles Burkhead, Billy Chilton, Carroll Sanford, George Brooks and Tom Woods.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, Greater Lexington Region, 2201 Regency Road, Suite 401, Lexington, KY 40503-2339, or Alzheimer's Association, 1065 Dove Run Road, Lexington, KY 40502.

WILLIAM SULLIVAN

William Howard "Freck" Sullivan, 85, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Ephriam McDowell Hospital in Danville.

Sullivan was the son of the late Dillard and Mary Taylor Sullivan.

He was an Army Veteran of WWII and member of First Christian Church in Lawrenceburg where he served as an elder. He retired from Kentucky Utilities as a shift supervisor and was a member of Anderson Masonic Lodge #90, and was a graduate of Salvisa High School.

He is survived by his wife, Iona Stone Duncan Sullivan; four sons, Howard (Belinda) Sullivan of Harrodsburg, Jerry (Ora Mae) Duncan of Columbus, MS; Tom (Dania) Sullivan of Lawrenceburg and David (Suzanne) Duncan of Jacksonville, FL; a sister, Rhoda Yocum of Olathe, KS; 12 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Robinson Sullivan; a daughter, Charlotte Kruer; two brothers, Charles and Harold Sullivan and a sister, Lilly White .

The funeral was held Saturday, April 18 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Wheeler officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Marvin "Pee Wee" Robinson, Tom Smith, Jim Kruer, Bobby Sparrow, Wayne Fahs, Hubert Shields and Horace Humphrey.

Honorary bearers were the grandchildren.

VIRGINIA TAYLOR

Virginia Doris Sexton Taylor, 82, widow of Kenneth Douglas Taylor, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Telford Terrace in Richmond.

Born February 19, 1927 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of George LaFayette and Emma Jane Ball Sexton. Taylor was a homemaker, co-owner of Taylors Sporting Goods and helped with the delivery of Meals on Wheels. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.

Taylor is survived by one daughter, Gina Dawn (Steve) Rupard; three sisters; Georgia (Orland) Webb of Harrodsburg, Martha Bennett of Burgin, JoAnn (Sam) Dexter of Danville; one grandson, one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Taylor was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Arthur William, Dudley and Chester Sexton; two sisters, Francis Knight and Flossie Cadell.

The funeral will be 11 a.m., Friday, April 24 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home in Richmond with Rev. Bill Fort officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Thursday, April 23 at the Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Gleaners Sunday School Class.

Donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern By-Pass, Richmond, KY 40475.

EVA BOWEN

Eva Kathleen Hanks Lynn Bowen, 83, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Bradford Square Nursing Home in Frankfort.

She was born on July 12, 1925 in Mercer County to the late Walker and Susie Stratton Hanks.

She was a homemaker who devoted her life to loving her husband, raising their children, and spoiling her grandchildren. She was a long time member of Sand Spring Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, and with the Swinging Saints.

Eva is survived by: her husband of 18 years, Allen Bowen, Lawrenceburg; one son, Larry (Charlotte) Lynn, of Pikeville; five step-children, Wayne (Ann) Bowen, Burgin, Pat Tyler, Winterhaven, FL, Charlotte (Jerry) Donovan, Edath (Scott) Ferguson, all of Lawrenceburg, and Lela Stewart, Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren, Scott Moore, Christopher, Lincoln, and Leigh Brittany Lynn, Paula Walls, Cheryl Stewart, Whitney Tyler, Lynnette Batista, Cameron and Cody Parks, and Sarah Stewart, and four great-grandchildren; friend and sister, Mary Jasper (Bob) Cook, Lawrenceburg.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rita Summers, and late husband, George Lynn.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 28 at the Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawrenceburg, with Dr. Mike Hamrick officiating. Burial followed in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sand Spring Baptist Church Building Fund, 1616 Harrodsburg Road, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

Casket bearers were Johnny Hanks, Jim Hanks, Rick Hanks, Johnny Whitehead, Don Peach, Jerry Peach, Marion Wilson and Woody Phillips.

DAVID BUGG

David Bugg, 43, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, April 26, 2009.

Born June 29, 1965 in Warminister, PA, he was the son of Eulah Mae “Lou” (Robinson) Bugg and the late William Charles Bugg.

In addition to his mother, survivors include one son, Matt Bugg and his mother Linda Bugg of Moreland; a sister, Vicki (Ronnie) Robinson of Salvisa; and three brothers, William “Buddy” (Lisa) Bugg, Steven (Kim) Bugg of Harrodsburg and Daniel Bugg of Versailles.

The funeral will be 2 p.m., Thursday, April 30 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Jerry Perry officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Jim Lopez, Donnie Hampton, Tony Taylor, Ricky Noe, Mark Robinson, “Slim” and Steve Weaver.

Honorary bearers are David Maddox, Johnny Paul Cummins, Austin May, Johnny Johnson, “Woody” and Tony Franklin.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 30 from 10 a.m. until the service at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

J. C. COYLE

J. C. Coyle, 96, of Cocanougher Lane, Harrodsburg, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 17, 1912, he was the son of the late Martin and Clyda Coyle and was a native of Washington County. He was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church and a retired farmer.

He is survived by four sisters, Lorys Edwards, Venetta Bishop and Nina Coyle, all of Louisville and Laverne (Jody) Cooksey of Mt. Sterling; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Hassel D. Coyle, Woodsie Coyle and Walter Coyle; and two sisters, Zelda Newsome and Mattie Kate Russell.

The funeral was conducted Sunday, April 26 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. David Finley and Bro. Glenn Emery officiating.

Burial was in the Beech Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Clifton Russell, Norma Glasscock, Barbara Ann Wheatley, Sandra Peach, Glenn Edwards, Phyllis Montgomery, Ray Newsome and Mike Bishop.

KATHRYN HOLT

Kathryn Holt, 103, widow of Delbert Holt Sr., died Friday, April 24, 2009 at the Life Care Center in Bardstown.

Born Jan. 3, 1906 in Nelson County, she was the daughter of the late Burlie and Ida Frances Smith King. She was a member of the Chaplin Baptist Church, a former salesperson at Shilito’s and had worked at Wrights Aeronautics in Cincinnati, OH.

Survivors include her son, Delbert (Dorcas) Holt Jr. of Harrodsburg; one sister, Opal Kentler of Warsaw, three grandchildren, Sandy (Michael) Jossa of Austin, TX, Woody (Becky) Holt and Audrey Morris, both of Harrodsburg; five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Ida Kathryn Weatherford.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, April 28 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating.

Burial was in the Highview Cemetery in Chaplin. Active pallbearers were Jesse Morris, Jamie Long, Joey Holt, Jared Holt, Jimmy Summiner and Michael Jossa. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Woodson Holt, Glendall Holt and Tony Curtsinger.

MELODY MCPHERSON

Melody Dick McPherson, 44 of Harrodsburg, died Monday, April 27, 2009 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Nov. 29, 1964 in Somerset, she was the daughter of Delmer Glen Dick and Velma Susan Green Moorefield. She was a substitute schoolteacher for Mercer County Board of Education and a volunteer at the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and volunteered for the cancer Relay for Life. She was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Mark McPherson of Harrodsburg; her father, Delmer Glen Dick of Nancy; her mother, Velma Susan Moorefield of Somerset; a son, Matthew McPherson of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Meghan McPherson of Harrodsburg; three brothers, Rodney (Joann) Dick of Nancy, Scott (Keawanna) Garrison of Harrodsburg, and Marcus Dick of Somerset; nine nephews, and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Martha and Columbus Dick.

Visitation for Mrs. McPherson will be Thursday, April 30th after 5 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Lewis Walter and Bro. Scott Davis officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers are Scott Garrison, Rodney Dick, Marcus Dick, Chad McPherson, Nick Raley, Donald McPherson and Johnny Sweet. Honorary Pallbearers are Stevie Potts, Clayton McPherson, Douglas Garrison, Andrew Garrison and Elliott Dick.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

ROGER MILLER

Roger “Dale” Miller, 60, husband of Teresa Ann Miller, died Friday, April 24, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 12, 1949 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Sam and Sarah Baker Miller. He was a retired Auto Body Repairman for Stuart Powell in Danville and owned Dale’s Service Center for over thirty years.

Miller was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam, a member of the Crossroads Christian Church and participated in auto racing in the Pure Street Class winning several trophies.

In addition to his wife, Miller is survived by one daughter, Melissa “Missy” (Phil) Clark of Harrodsburg; two sons, Travis Dale (Ashley) Miller of Parksville and Dustin “Big D” Miller of Harrodsburg; four sisters, Iva Jewell Reynolds of Harrodsburg, Nancy (Muriel) Settles of Willisburg, Diane (Leon) Spalding of Springfield and Jane (Clarence) Byrd of Harrodsburg; one brother, Ronnie (Linda) Miller of Harrodsburg; three granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Settles and two brothers, David and Jerry T. Miller.

The funeral was conducted Monday, April 27 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Curtis Sims officiating.

Burial with military Honors was in Evergreen Cemetery in Willisburg. Active pallbearers were Travis Miller, Phil Clark, Cody Stumph, Anthony Byrd, Donnie Miller, Joe Paul Spalding, Larry Jean Miller and Jeff Palmer. Honorary pallbearers were Kaylee Miller, Cheyenne Clark, Maddie Jane Miller, Donnie Stumph, Gary Stumph, Ronnie Miller, Jim Carmichael, Jim Carmichael Jr., Joe Byrd, George Buchanan, Cecil Buchanan and Larry Settles.
