KENNETH PRICE

Kenneth Littleton Price, 73, husband of Faye Thurman Price, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born November 12, 1935 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late William Littleton and Mary Hawkins Price. He retired after 39 years from Square D and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was a member of the Carpenter’s Christian Church where he served as former treasurer and elder and was a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge 777 F&AM.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Douglas Littleton Price of Lexington, two sisters, Nancy Hanson of Chicago and Rosemary Marksbury of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Carpenter’s Christian Church with Greg Warren, Richard McKinley and Larry Camic officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Mike Votaw and the elders of Carpenter’s Christian Church served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Larry Votaw and members of the Joy Sunday School Class.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Carpenter’s Christian Church, 1340 U.S. Hwy 127 Bypass, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg was in charge of arrangements.

BILLY CARRIER

Billy Cecil Carrier, 78, of Logan Avenue, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 11, 1930, in Burgin, he was the son of the late Alexander Hulan Carrier and Florence Mae Landers Carrier.

A graduate of Highland High School and Eastern Kentucky University, Billy served in the U.S. Army during both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired in 1976 as a lieutenant colonel having earned a Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster. Following his retirement, he worked at Porter Paint Store and Whirlpool Corp. He loved to fish and was an accomplished woodworker and member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Norma Simms Carrier, one son, Neil P. Carrier; one daughter, Susan Carrier (Robert G.) Baker; and a granddaughter, Cassie R. Baker, all of Danville.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 21, at the Stith Funeral Home in Danville with the Rev. Ernest Martin and the Rev. Doug Wesley officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donations are requested to Calvary Baptist Church building fund.

KATHRYN CATLETT

Kathryn S. Catlett, 87, of Danville, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the Danville Centre for Health & Rehab.

Born Saturday, May 6, 1922 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Atwood and Marie Jackson Semones. She was the widow of Everett Catlett. Catlett was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Pruitt Sunday School Class. She was retired as cashier of A&P Tea Company.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol (David) Bruner of Harrodsburg and Kay Gray of Danville; one sister, Ruth Smiley of Danville; four grandchildren, Devauna Riley-Broce, Leonna Prather, Timothy Tyler and Kristie Gray; four step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

An Appreciation of Life service was held 11 a.m. Friday, May 15 at Preston-Pruitt Home with Bro. James Byrd officiating. Burial followed in Bellevue Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carroll and Thomas Semones, Jim Ed Terhune, Daryl, Bruce Neal, Ricky and Bobby Catlett and Jamie Broce.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice.

RUEL FENWICK, JR.

Mr. Ruel Francis Fenwick, Jr., 69 of O’Daniel Lane, Lebanon, passed away Thursday, May 14,2009 at his residence.

A native of Washington County, he was born on July 31,1939 to the late Ruel F. Sr., and Edith Rose Burns Fenwick.

He was a member of the Springfield Christian Church and a retired employee of Armour Food Company.

Survivors include: two brothers, Francis Leon (Janice) Fenwick of Danville and William Eugene “Bill” (Ladeanna) Fenwick of Texas and three sisters, Margaret Funk Carrier of Gravel Switch, Shirley Ann (Larry) Crenshaw of Louisville and Wanda Helen Malashevich of Louisville and several relatives in Mercer County.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Larry Wilson, former minister of Springfield Christian Church, officiating. He will be assisted by Bro. Jesse Burns, the church minister.

Burial will be in the Haysville Cemetery in Marion County.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 Wednesday at the funeral home.

PATSY HARDIN

Patsy Vanhook Lawrence Hardin, 69, of Lexington, died Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Healthcare Center.

She was a native of Lincoln County, born Thursday, July 20, 1939 to the late Louis and Ophelia Spires Vanhook.

She was a retired counselor with Charter Ridge and a member of Andover Church in Lexington. Patsy had obtained her Realtor’s license and was a former member of a square dancing club in Lexington. Special thanks to the staff of Harrodsburg Healthcare for the loving care extended to Patsy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Micah Carr Lawrence.

She is survived by: her daughter, Terri (Calvert) Faust of Lexington; one son, Ronnie (Debbie) of Nicholasville; one sister, Sharon (Marvin) Kayes of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Bob (Susan) Vanhook of Atlanta, GA; five grandchildren, Christy (Steve) Thomas, Jamie Lawrence, Jeremy Creech, Mindy (Jesse) Rohr and Caitlin Faust; three great-grandchildren, Madysen and Rylee Thomas, and Audrey Noe; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

An Appreciation of Life service was held Monday, May 18, at the Fox Funeral Home, Stanford with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may go to Alzheimer’s Association or Heritage Hospice.

Ronnie Lawrence, Marvin Kayes, Jeremy Creech, Steve Thomas, Bob Vanhook and Calvert Faust served as the Pallbearers.

WALKER HOWELL

Walker Howell, 104, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Born April 15, 1905 in Prater Creek, KY, Walker was the son of the late Matthew and Amy Howell.

He was a member of Little Salem Baptist Church in Dana, KY.

He is survived by: three daughters, Jean Harris of Lexington, Irene (John) Akers of Harrodsburg, and Yvonne (Herbert) Carpenter of Winchester; four sons, Parley (Della) Howell of Virginia, Charlie (Susie) Howell of Ash Camp, KY, Palmer (Peggy) Howell of Defiance, OH and Billy Howell of Lexington, three brothers; one sister; 23 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Ossie Conn Howell and one daughter, Madlyn Scott of Lexington.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 20, at the Milward Mortuary – Southland, Lexington, by Bro. Ricky Akers with burial in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Laney Akers, David Akers, Paul Moore, Jonathan Moore, Darrell Bradley and Terry Howell.

Contributions are suggested to Taylor Manor Nursing Home, 300 Berry Ave., Versailles, KY 40383.

TERRY JOHNSON

Terry John Johnson, 96, of Old Danville Pike, died Monday, May 18, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 3, 1912 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Jesse and Rogie Daugherty Johnson. Johnson was a farmer, a carpenter, and member of the Westend Church of Christ.

Survivors include his son, Bruce O. (Doris) Johnson of Stanford; two brothers, Thomas Johnson of Danville and Paul Johnson of Gravel Switch; three sisters, Margaret Ellis of Gravel Switch, Barbara (Benny) Engle of Stanford and Betty (Bob) Kolb of Louisville; a grandson, a granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Hester Johnson; two brothers, Leroy and J.A. Johnson; and three sisters, Ethel Wilson and Beatrice Lane.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bros. Ernest Martin and Jack Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Neal, Roger, Alex Johnson, Barry and Steve Brashear, David Hester, Jimmy and Johnny Wayne Barlow, Jimmy Kolb and Elwood Randolph.

Honorary pallbearers will be Benny Engle, Bob Kolb, James Hester, Roger McQueary, Doug Miller, Donald Bender, Jack Johnson, Roy Martin and Greg Franklin.

Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Alzheimer’s Association or Heritage Hospice.

JOANN KING

JoAnn Berry King, 72, of Shelbyville died May 14, 2009 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville. She was a member of Rockbridge United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth King Sr. of Shelbyville; two daughters, Shelby Joy King of Shelbyville and Lori Ann Clum of Indianapolis, IN; a son, Kenneth L. King Jr. of Mt. Washington ; a sister, Betty Bruner of LaGrange and four grandchildren.

The funeral was 2 p.m. Monday, May 18 at the Shannon Funeral Home with Bro. John Underwood and the Rev. Mark Lemon officiating. Burial was in the Grove Hill Cemetery.

MARGARET LESTER

Margaret Jenkins Lester, 79, of Danville, wife of Russell C. Lester, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born May 13, 1930 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Parker and Dovie Mae Harden Jenkins. She was a former Corning Glass employee and a member of Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Russell Clifford Lester; a daughter, Gloria Jean Browning of Lexington; a son, Russell Dale Lester of Harrodsburg; a sister, Edith Nowlin of Harrodsburg; a brother, Earl Jenkins of Versailles; and four grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted 12 p.m., Monday, May 18 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Henry Peavler, Tony Pinkston, Eddie Long, Jesse Thomas, Nellus Estes and Danny White .

Memorial contributions may be sent to Ragged Edge Community Theater.

MARY LYONS

Mary Lou Durham Lyons, formerly of Cummins Drive, widow of Delmar R. Lyons, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.

Born November 29, 1933 in Yosemite, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Ruth Rainey Durham. She was a press operator at the former Cricketeer Manufacturing Corporation, a member of the Baptist faith and attended Southside Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen (Pam) Lyons of Harrodsburg and Michael (Dale) Lyons of Waddy; three daughters, Melody “Bitsy” (Kenny) Stephens, Kathy (Dan) Albright and Beth Lyons all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Jeanette Thompson of Danville and thirteen grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Chester, Elbert, J.E, Clayton, and Richard Durham and by five sisters, Ellen and Shelby Jean Durham, Laura Swango, Waneda Thompson and Brenda Galloway.

The funeral was conducted 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 20 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Pastor Matthew Robbins officiating. Burial was in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville.

Pallbearers are Eric Lyons, John Lyons, Adam Hartman, Jordan Lyons, Ben Hartman, Ryan Albright, Zachary Lyons and Jacob Lyons.

RUBY MELTON

Ruby Melton, 87, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the Professional Care Rehabilitation Center in Dale, IN.

Born December 11, 1921 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late John Lewis and Bessie Beatrice Jenkins Bishop.

She was a homemaker, a seamstress, and an artist.

Survivors include: one daughter, Cheryl Wurst of Louisville; one sister, Shirley Todd of Richmond, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Stevie Melton, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 17, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
