BRANDI OWENS

Brandi Gayle Owens, 45, of Lexington died Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at the St. Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born October 16, 1963 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Pete (Marilyn) Owens Jr. and Mary Lee VanDyke Owens, all of Lexington. She was a graduate of Lafayette High School, attended Eastern Kentucky University where she majored in Computer Science, was a former employee of Lexmark in Lexington and was a member of the Centennial Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, survivors include three sons, Pete and Nicholas Owens and Gary Campbell, all of Lexington; one daughter, Ashley Owens of Lexington; two brothers Peter B. Owens III of Frankfort and Chase A. Owens of Lexington; one sister, Wendy C. Cottrill of Lexington and several other relatives.

The funeral was conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Centennial Baptist Church with Elder J.D. Short III officiating. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Freddy Bottoms, Kenton Bottoms, Kelly Bowman, Freddy Brown, Gary Brown and George Yeast.

Memorial contributions are suggested to a trust fund for Owens’s children at Members Heritage Federal Credit Union, 3202 Custer Dr, in Lexington, Kentucky.

LARRY REYNOLDS

Larry Dean Reynolds, 59, of Gravel Switch died Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Born March 11, 1950 in Danville, he was the son of the late Hubert Franklin Reynolds and Audrey Mae Trent Reynolds Cochran. He was a graduate of Danville High School and a lineman for Bell South Telephone for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietname War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3634 and the American Legion Boyle Post 46. He was a co-founder of the Devil’s Neck Hollow Gun Club of Corbin.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Daugherty Reynolds; a daughter, Laura (Eugene) Smith of Corbin; three sisters, Sandy (Marion Jr.) Rogers of Burgin, Connie (Stephen) Edwards of Gravel Switch, and Peggy Hooper of Danville; and a granddaughter.

The funeral was at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home and Family Center in Junction City with the Rev. John Westerfield and the Rev. Earnest Fields Jr. officiating. Burial was in Elder Cemetery.

military rites were provided by American Legion Boyle Post 46 and the U.S. Marine Corps.

Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Run Baptist Church building fund.

LILLIAN RHODUS

Lillian Marie Wilson Stratton Rhodus, 70, of Richmond, formerly of Mitchellsburg, died Saturday at her residence.

Born July 6, 1938, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Ollie and Ovalee Cooley Wilson. She was the wife of Oscar Ray Rhodus and the widow of J.B. "Pete" Stratton.

Lillian was a member of the Perryville Church of God and a former employee of Jonathan Logan in Burgin, Kapp's Uniform and Palm Beach Co., both in Danville, and Cricketeer in Harrodsburg.

One of the things Lillian loved to do was work with her flowers and rose bushes. When her health began to fail, she made sure her husband Ray took good care of her flowers and roses.

In addition to her husband, Lillian is survived by: two sons, Michael Allen (Margaret) Stratton and Paul Anthony (Valerie) Stratton, both of Mitchellsburg; a daughter, DeeDee Marie Smock, also of Mitchellsburg; a stepson, Jimmy Rhodus of Richmond; two stepdaughters, DeAnn Johnson of Richmond and Donna (Raymond) Sexton of Jackson County; a sister, Gerline Dexter Gilliam; a brother, James Morris Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, Whitney Stratton, Jay Scott Goss, Shawnna Nicole Hayes, Haley Gorden, Austin Lamb, Ashley Sapp, Jonathan Burton, Jonie Marie and Thomas Johann Smock, Stormy Brook and Faith Christian Stratton, Brian, Brandon and Jami Rhodus, Riley Thompson, Dustin Johnson and Craig Martin; and two great-granddaughters, Angel Lynn Marie Smock and Brianna Haven Boyd.

Lillian was preceded in death by her first husband, Pete, a son J. B. Stratton Jr.; three brothers, Little Curtis, Sam and Willard Wilson, and three sisters, Sybil Noe, Oneal Engle and Lorene Wilson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 20, at the Perryville Church of God by Rev. Edward Turpin and Rev. Joey Turpin, with burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Jimmy Rhodus, Billy and Eric Jarboe, Phillip Smock, Timothy Stratton and Kelly Burchett.

Honorary pallbearers were Ray, Ricky and Gary Wilson and Danny Noe.

Visiting hours will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville and noon until time of service at the church.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the American Lung Association.

Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, was in charge of arrangements.

NORMAN ROBERTS

Norman “Pop” Roberts, 69, of Stanford, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

He was born Sunday, January 28, 1940 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Glen and Sally Ella Horn Roberts.

He was a retired printer from Harrodsburg Herald and was associated for a period of time with R.R. Donnelly’s, Bluegrass Printing, Interior Journal and Host Communications. Pop was a member of Pleasant Point Baptist Church, enjoyed Bluegrass music and traveling around to Car Shows with his old cars. He will be remembered for his love of woodworking and carpentry, especially cabinet making.

He is survived by his wife, whom he married on September 3, 1960, Billie June Hughes Roberts of Stanford; two daughters, Sandra (Scott) Rosenberger of Nicholasville and Pamela (Greg) Kirkpatrick of Hall’s Gap; one sister, Alene (Jesse) Rice of Highland; his mother-in-law, Geneva Hughes of Stanford; three sisters-in-law, Evon Gooch, Lorraine McKinney and Geraldine Reece, all of Lincoln County; two grandchildren, Brent Norman Cain and Whitney June Marcum; five step-grandchildren, Nicholas and Eric Rosenberger, Nick Woodcox, Laura and Hannah Kirkpatrick; and his beloved companions, “Mocha” and “Copper”.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, his twin, Norbert and Howard Roberts.

An Appreciation of Life service was held Tuesday, May 19, at the Fox Funeral Home in Stanford by Bro. Bill Gooch with burial following in Pleasant Point Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may go to Habitat for Humanity.

George Gooch, Eddie and Danny Roberts, Nicholas and Eric Rosenberger and Nick Woodcox served as the Pallbearers.

SANDRA ROLLER

Sandra Kay “Suzie” Zielinski Roller, 59, Gravel Switch, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, Lexington.

She was born Oct. 23, 1949, in Jefferson County and was a homemaker.

Survivors include: her husband, Clarence A. Roller Sr.; two sons, Clarence A. Roller Jr., Danville, and Michael Austin, Henderson; three daughters, Judith Angela Brady, Lebanon, Stephanie McCarty, Raywick, and Brandi Roller, Mackville; 12 grandchildren; her mother, Julia Auberry, Bardstown; one brother, William Ernest Auberry, Bardstown; and three sisters, Marsha Roberts, Land O’ Lake, FL, Alicia Muller, Louisville, and Janice Wesley, Bardstown.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mark Benedict Zielinski, a brother, Mark Benedict Zielinski Jr., and a sister, Martha Mahan.

The funeral was held Friday, May 15, at the Bosley Funeral Home with interment in Lebanon National Cemetery. Rev. Carl Roller officiated.

Bosley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

HERBERT ROYSE

Herbert H. “Pete” Royse, Jr., 68, of Nicholasville, husband of Mary Sue Willis Royse, died Saturday, May 16, 2009.

He was a teacher, coach and administrator with the Jessamine County Schools for 43 years. He was born in Nicholasville, January 29, 1941, to the late Herbert H. Royse and Gertrude Conn Royse. He was a 1958 graduate of Nicholasville High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degrees from the University of Kentucky, a member of Theta chapter of Kappa Alpha Order and Phi Delta Kappa education fraternity. He was a life member of the U.K. Alumni Association. During his career, he served as President of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, President of the Kentucky Association of School Business Officials and President of the Southeastern Association of School Business Officials.

He served two years on staff with the Kentucky Department of Education. His civic activities included President of the Nicholasville Rotary Club, President of Lone Oak Country Club, President of the Jessamine County Retired Teacher Association and Treasurer of the Jessamine County Senior Citizen Center. He was one of the organizers of the Jessamine County Little League Baseball and Football programs. He was an avid UK sports fan, golfer and amateur radio operator, holding an “extra class” radio license. He was named “Honorable Mention” to the 1958 Courier Journal All-State Basketball Team. He was enlisted in the U. S. Navy. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two sons, Mark J. Royse, Lexington and David T. Royse (Carolyn), Nicholasville; one grandson, Benjamin C. Royse; two granddaughters, Mallorie and Paige Burton, Nicholasville; three sisters, Mrs. Betty Jo (Lloyd) Pickett and Mrs. Gladys (Joe) Harlow, both of Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Judie Cooper (Paul), Greensburg, IN.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Evelyn G. (Stuart) Reynolds, Mrs. Frances (John) McDowell, one brother, Gene C. (Dolores) Royse; and a special nephew, Stuart Reynolds, Jr.

Services were held at Betts and West Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 19, with Rev. Dr. Fred VanTatenhove conducting the Memorial Services. Burial followed in Maple Grove Cemetery in Nicholasville.

Nephews were pallbearers.

Honorary bearers were Gary Combs, Don Cope, Bill Dickens, Harry Dodson, Howard Downing, Robert Elam, Carl B. Fisher, Ray Hager, Bob Hayes, Tom Mahanes, Joe David Martin, Shirley Smith, Carl Spivey, Alan Stivers, Jock Sutherland, Ruth Vahle and Lu Young.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

ANNIE SMITH

Annie Ottis Smith, 88, of Harrodsburg, widow of Lewis D. Smith, died Sunday, May 17, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born September 5, 1920 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late James Leslie and Espie Rena Hockersmith Jones. She was a seamstress for Palm Beach Company for several years and a member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Spring Lunsford of Lexington; three sisters, Jane Geary of Dayton, OH, Dorothy Boggs of Covington, OH, Rena Mckinney of Indianapolis, IN; a stepdaughter, Nonta Miller of Steubenville, OH; a grandson, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Maggard and a brother, James E. Jones.

The funeral was conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 19 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Johnny Hockersmith and Glenn Daughtery officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

WILLIAM WILSON

William Ellis “Bill” Wilson, 89 of Loogootee, IN, died at 9:55 a.m. Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Loogootee Nursing Center in Indiana.

Born Nov. 16, 1919, in Monterey, TN, he was the son of the late Arthur Shell Wilson and Willa Hamilton Wilson.

He attended school in Danville. He worked as a city comptroller and retired as federal economics advisor for the state of Indiana. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a Sagama of the Wabash and a lifelong member of the Richmond Indiana Moose Lodge.

He is survived by one son, James Ray Wilson of Loogootee, IN; four grandchildren, James “Bo” (April) Wilson, Kathie and Katie Wilson, all of Loogootee, IN and Jolynn Rebentisch of Salt Lake City, UT; a sister-in-law, Easther Wilson of Cincinnati, OH; a niece, Carole Anne (Jackie) Freeman of Harrodsburg; and eight great-grandchildren.

Other then his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy K. Wilson; one sister, Jessie Cummins; and one brother, Arthur Lee Wilson.

The funeral was held Tuesday, May 19 at the Brocksmith Funeral Home in Loogootee, IN. Burial was Wednesday, May 20 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of local arrangements.

JEWELL ANDERSON

Jewell Peavler Anderson, 77, widow of John R. Anderson, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the Charleston Health Care Center in Danville.

Born October 4, 1931 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Bob Peavler and Omie Logue. She was a retired nursing assistant at the Friendship House in Danville, had worked at the Boyle Pharmacy and had attended the Perryville Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, James Kenneth (Neena) Peavler and Monte Anderson, both of Danville; two stepsons, Johnny and Tommy Anderson, both of IN. Thirteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one stepdaughter, Annette Heffelfinger, four brothers, Connie B., William Lee, James T., and Everett Marshall Peavler; and two sisters, Ella Sallee and Ovie Gaines.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Larry Holbrook officiating. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery in Perryville.

Pallbearers will be Cody Ragle, Cole Peavler, W. T. Peavler, Kenny Wayne Gaines, Len Yates and Toby Turner.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28 and after 7 a.m. Friday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

REVA BLAKEMAN

Reva Mae Blakeman, 88, Louisville, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Hillcreek Manor Nursing Home, Louisville.

She was the former Reva Mae Cornish, a native of Mercer County and a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of Parkland Baptist Church, Louisville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Earl Blakeman.

Survivors include: one son, David Blakeman, Lebanon Junction; one daughter, Linda Faye Salleng, Horse Cave; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verda cosine, Louisville.

The funeral was held Saturday, May 23, at the Kappel Funeral Home, Lebanon Junction, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park, Louisville.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice.

Kappel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DEBORA BROOKS

Debora Kay Brooks, 43, died May 20, 2009 at her residence.

Born March 21, 1966 in Peru, IN, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Evelyn Boyd Brooks and Joyce Brooks. She was an employee of Charleston Health Care in Danville and Walmart in Harrodsburg and a member of Southern Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Megan Brooks of Harrodsburg; a granddaughter, Kaylee Gregory of Harrodsburg; and two sisters; Judy (Tony) Walls of FL and Mary (Donnie) Pulliam of Harrodsburg.

The funeral was Wednesday, May 27 at 11 a.m. at Stith Funeral Home. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery. .
