RICHARD SCHMIERS

Richard H. Schmiers Jr., 57, died Monday, June 1, 2009 in Junction City.

Born November 24, 1951 in Louisville, he was the son of the late Richard H. Schmiers Sr., and Anna Mae Snow Rogers. He was a retired Jack of All Trades having worked at Spring Hill Cemetery, Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home, Lincoln Tool & Die and Country Hearth Inn.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia (Danny) Cross of Parksville, Donna Reenee (Marcos) Schmiers-Gomez of Danville and Eva Lee (Wayne) Reeves of Waddy; three sisters, Sharon Goode of Junction City, Barbara Hall of Middlesburg and Evelyn Ward of Corbin; fourteen grandchildren, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Christopher Claunch and two brothers, Tom and Chuck Schmiers.

Services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, June 4 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Darlisa Holder officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Timmy Vineyard, Jimmy Roberts, Kenny Ward, Wayne Reeves and Josh Goode.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

PAUL SILER

Paul Siler, 77, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, May 29, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 14, 1932 in Whitley County, he was the son of the late William Ernest and Artie Perkins Siler. He was a retired cook who had worked at Jerry’s in Danville and Arby’s in Tampa, FL. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a Methodist.

Survivors include two brothers, Delbert “Doc” Siler of Harrodsburg and Clifford Siler of IN; one sister, Geneva R. Lower of Cincinnati, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at a later date. Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JIMMY TUNGATE

Jimmy Lee Tungate, 47, Lebanon, died May 23, 2009, in Bradenton, Fla.

Born in Pulaski County March 8, 1962, Tungate worked construction.

He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Roger Dale and Carmen Tungate; and one sister, Charisty Michelle Tungate.

Survivors include: his mother, Anna Mae Hardin of Florida; father and stepmother, Cleo and Alice Tungate of Lebanon; two sons, Dylan Tungate of North Carolina and Timmy Lee Tungate of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Danielle Leann Tungate of North Carolina; one brother, Toby Lynn Tungate of Lebanon; and four sisters, Linda Gale Beck, Susan Taylor and Lacrisha Dawn Daniels, all of Florida, and Gayla Kay Tungate of Lebanon.

Prayers and visitation were held May 27 at Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home, Lebanon. Burial was May 28 at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Pulaski County. Bro. Greg Haynes officiated.

Pallbearers were Paul, Frank, Jasper and Toby Tungate, Ricky Gilpin and Ralph Edwards.

Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

THOMAS WOODS

A graveside service for Thomas David Woods will be held Saturday, June 6, at 1 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

THOMAS YOUNG

Thomas Boyle Young, 60, of Perryville, died Friday May 29, 2009 in Danville. He was the husband of Carol Blandford Young.

Born March 20, 1949, in Boyle County, he was a son of Ruby Arnold Young of Gravel Switch and the late Ralph Young.

Tom served his community for 24 years as a Boyle County deputy sheriff. While serving as deputy sheriff, he taught the D.A.R.E. program for many years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, a Kentucky Colonel and former president of the Perryville Jaycees.

Tom was definitely a people person; he loved everyone, especially children. He not only cherished his own children and grandchildren, but also had an extended set of grandchildren that will fondly remember him as "Papaw." These are children Tom and Carol took care of while their parents were working.

In addition to his wife Carol, Tom is survived by: four children, Chris Ann (David) Sanders and Wendy (Clark) Logan, both of Danville, Anthony (Jaymie) Young of Perryville and Marty (Yvette) Young of Stanford; two sisters, Donna Phillips of Perryville and Cheryl Shute of Danville; and one brother, Joe Young of Perryville. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph, and a brother, Johnny Young.

The family will be receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville.

A memorial mass was held Tuesday, June 2, at the St. Andrews Catholic church in Harrodsburg, officiated by the Rev. Danny Schwendeman. Interment of remains will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Perryville.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Wilderness Trace Development, 409 North Stewarts Lane, Danville, KY. 40422.

JAMES YOUNG

James Allen Young, 67, of Perryville died Sunday May 31, 2009.

Born March 8, 1942, in Washington County, he was a son of the late James and Mary Cheatham Young.

Survivors include: his wife, Frances Roution Young; one son, James Allen Young Jr. of Taylorsville; two stepdaughters, Belinda Wohner of Mackville and Margaret Miller of Waddy; six grandchildren; one brother, J.C. Young; and two sisters, Rose Hardin and Claudia Hockensmith.

Services were conducted Wednesday, June 3, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home, Springfield.

MARY CARUTHERS

Mary Alice Miller Caruthers, 84, of Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

She was the daughter of the late Alfred Jackson and Mary Elizabeth Doss Miller.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and a 1942 graduate of Lawrenceburg High School. She was a former clerk at the Louisville Store for 13 years.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Herk Caruthers, Lawrenceburg; one sister, Betty James, Lawrenceburg; two sisters-in-law, Kathaleen Miller, Lawrenceburg, and Mildred Miller, Winterhaven, FL; two nieces, Linda (Bobby) Hill, Shelbyville, and Mary Elizabeth James, Lawrenceburg; two nephews, William Gregory Miller, and John Richard Miller, both of Lawrenceburg.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Miller.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 7, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Robert F. Ehr officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Waddell Woolum, Brad Mitchell, Darrol Hayden, Bob Stevens, Jesse Thomas, Brandon Hatfield, Bobby Hill, and Doug Black.

Honorary bearers were Kenneth Mann, Dr. James Gilbert, Nellie Simpson, Margaret Black, Pauline Riley, Carol Hayden, and Kitty Bowen.

ROY DAVENPORT

Roy E. Davenport, 91, of New Albany, IN and formerly of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born Dec. 10, 1917 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Fred and Sara (Patterson) Davenport.

He served in WWII in the 84th Division Army in Europe. He retired from Southern Railway after 35 years. He was a member of Graceland Baptist Church in New Albany and helped conduct an outreach ministry on behalf of church in the Clarksville area.

He is survived by his wife, Daisy (Hutchins) Davenport of New Albany, IN; his son, Robert (Mikki) Davenport of Georgetown, IN; several nephews and nieces.

Besides his parents, Davenport was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Preston and Lucille Hurst, and his brother, Robert Davenport.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 8 at Graceland Baptist Church. Burial followed with military honors in Abundant Life Cemetery at the Graceland Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Outreach Ministry at Graceland Baptist Church.

Arrangements were handled by Generations Funeral Home in New Albany, IN.

ELMER EDMONDSON

Elmer Wilgus “Wig” Edmondson, 94, of Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, June 07, 2009 at his residence.

He was the widower of Irene Tindall Edmondson and was born September 23, 1914 in Anderson County to the late Ethel Proctor Edmondson Brown and Francis M. Edmondson.

He was a farmer, a lifetime member, deacon, and trustee of Glensboro Christian Church where he and his wife Irene served as church custodians for many years. He served as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during W.W. II with 36 months in the European Front. He was also a member of the former Glensboro Ruritan Club.

Wig is survived by: one daughter, Marna E. (Bill) Bollinger; two grandchildren, Megan Bollinger (Matthew) Spaulding and Will Bollinger, all of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Gene Edmondson of Salvisa and Marion Edmondson of Versailles; and special caregivers, Mary Ellis and Felicia Evans.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Henry Nathan “Buddy” Edmondson.

Funeral service was conducted Wednesday, June 10, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Rev. Joe Earl Brown and Bro. Heath Sherman officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601 or Glensboro Christian Church Building Fund, c/o Linda Shouse, 302 Vail Dr., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

MATTIE PITTMAN

Mattie Jane Pittman, 87, of Junction City, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009.

Born May 11, 1922 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Grandville and Jewel Taylor Pittman.

She worked at Shakertown for 38 years, where she was known for “Aunt Mattie’s corn bread”.

Survivors include: one daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Lister Cook of Junction City; one brother, Charlie Pittman of Crab Orchard; one sister, Leona Pittman of Mt. Sterling; two grandchildren: Virgil Cook and Arnold Lee Cook, Jr., both of Junction City and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, James M. Cook.

Services were conducted Friday, June 5, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home, Moreland, by Rev. Charles Daugherty with burial in Junction City Cemetery.

IOMA SMITH

Ioma Katherine Reeves Smith, 86, passed away peacefully at her son’s home in Shepherdsville, Kentucky on Monday June 8, 2009.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winchester, the American Legion Auxiliary, a Kentucky Colonel, a lifelong Republican and for over 67 years a member of the Daughers of America serving the last 7 years as State Treasurer.

Her parents, Lee and Francis Reeves, Earl E. “Andy” Smith, her husband of 62 years, and her grandson, Harold Lee Moore Jr., preceded her in death.

She is survived by: two daughters, Elizabeth Gene (Phillip) Wayman, Pensacola, FL, and Frankie Ruth (Harold Lee Sr.) Moore, Burgin; and one son, Raymond G. (Mary Ann) Smith, Shepherdsville. She is also survived by her grandson, William Eugene (Monica) Moore; granddaughter, Katherine Chapman; and foster grandchildren, Louis (Lisa) Atchison Jr. and Lynn Ann Atchison; and her very special friends, Louis Sr. and Diana Atchison of Winchester. Her great-grandchildren are Benjamin Miller, Taylor and Jordan Chapman and Adrianna “Andy” Moore.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday, June 12, at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street, Lexington, by Pastor Louis Atchison Sr. Burial will be in Lexington Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be William E. Moore, Louis Atchison Jr., Donnie Lee Booth, Roland Newman, Stephen Ellis Booth, Carey Newman, Felix Reeves and William Oxendine.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Daughters of America, State Council of Kentucky, c/o Lorraine Brandenburg, 358 Hillcrest Drive, Versailles, KY 40383.
