Harold V. Rankin, 59, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired installer with Cincinnati Bell Telephone.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hyland Rankin; sons, Harold Rankin and David Rankin, both of Florence, and Columbus Rankin of Walton; a daughter, Teresa Jackson of Oxford, Ohio; a brother, Arnold W. Rankin of Union; sisters, Shirley Wright of Florence and Barbara Rankin of Villa Hills; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at noon Friday. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Ft. Mitchell.

Martha Rece, 70, of California, died Tuesday at Communicare of Clifton, Cincinnati. Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas.

Cleo Rankin Whalen Sr., 76, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired employee of Ladish Co., a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, Harrison County, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Simpson Whalen; sons, Robert Whalen of Falmouth, Mike Whalen and Buddy Whalen, both of Cynthiana; daughters, Sherry Whalen, Debbie Hale and Beverly Sizemore, all of Covington, and Lisa Flora of Cynthiana; a stepson, Gregory McIntyre of Cynthiana; a stepdaughter, Debbie White of Cynthiana; a sister, Alberta Woodruff of Claysville; 12 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana; visitation from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home; and burial in Kentontown Cemetery.

Mildred Dorothy Drusell homemaker, landlady

Mildred Dorothy Drusell, formerly of Northern Kentucky, excelled as both a homemaker and a businesswoman.

But Mrs. Drusell never tried to make others feel less accomplished, said a daughter, Barbara Ballance of Ft. Mitchell.

"She always let everybody do whatever they wanted to do," said Mrs. Ballance. "Whatever they were able to do."

Mrs. Drusell, 92, died Friday at Gardenview I nursing home in Cincinnati.

Mrs. Drusell was born in St. Louis. As a girl, her family moved to Cincinnati, where they had relatives, and then to Covington and Park Hills.

She attended business school and could speak Spanish and German, said Mrs. Ballance.

Mrs. Ballance said her mother enjoyed sewing and loved being a homemaker for her two daughters and her late husband, John Drusell.

But she also worked outside the home. She was a court stenographer in Cincinnati and a landlady for more than 50 years for property in Park Hills and Elsmere and in Clermont County, Ohio, said Mrs. Ballance.

Mrs. Drusell belonged to a ladies' Bible class at St. Paul Evangelical Church of Christ when the congregation met in Covington and then moved to Ft. Wright.

"She always said her prayers," said Mrs. Ballance.

Other survivors include a daughter, Dora Ann Thompson of Kingsport, Tenn., and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be there from 9 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday.

Burial will be in Vine Street Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati.

Mary K. "Tats" Cassidy Brinker, 79, of Taylor Mill, died at 12:49 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Edward Brinker, died in 1989. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Kay Cassidy of Ft. Wright; two nieces; and a nephew.

Memorial Mass will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony's Church, Taylor Mill. Entombment was in Mother of God Cemetery Mausoleum, Ft. Wright. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony's Church, 485 Grand Ave., Taylor Mill 41017.

Dorothy MacDonald, 86, of Ft. Wright, died at 2:55 a.m. Friday at the Highlands of Ft. Thomas nursing home.

She had served in the Navy and was a principal at American Dependant School for the Air Force, Okinawa, Japan. She also taught at John G. Carlisle School, Covington.

She was a member of Latonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Walter MacDonald of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and a sister, Leonora Hartman of Estes Park, Colo.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.

James Leonard Miller, 63, of Berry, died Thursday at Veteran's Administration Hospital, Lexington.

He was a retired farmer, a member of the Pentecostal church and an Army veteran.

Survivors include daughters, Pam Strausbaugh of Paris, Elza Miller of Berry, Sharon Laytart of Campbellsville and Pat Teegarden and Kathy Weber of Cyn thiana; a son, Bruce Miller of Corinth; a sister, Minnie May Vessing of Demossville; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry. Visitation will be there from 10 a.m. until the time of services today.

Burial will be in Camp Nelson Memorial Cemetery, Danville.

George Washington Orr Jr., 90, of Butler, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.

He was a retired farmer and retired railroad worker.

Survivors include a son, Elwood Orr of Butler; a step-daughter, Thelma Lilley of Fiskburg; sisters, Goldie Cotton of Walton and Thelma Works of Latonia; and several grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Carters Chapel United Methodist Church, Pendleton County. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler, and from 1 p.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Beulah Rusk Summers, 101, of Florence, died Thursday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.

Gerald A. Wenger, 83, of Covington, died Friday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Latonia.

He was a retired chef who worked for St. Elizabeth Hospital North in Covington, Highland Country Club in Ft. Thomas and other hospitals and local restaurants.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

His wife, Kathryn Jean Wenger, died in 1995. Survivors include sons, Barry Wenger of Deer Park, Wash., Robert Wenger of New Orleans and David Wenger of Batavia, Ohio; daughters, Judy Wenger of Covington and Mary Wasylcia and Carol Wenger of Florence; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Ft. Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Covington.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati 45203.

Ruth Endicott began midlife beauty career

Ruth E. Endicott believed it was never too late to make a major change in her life.

A former Dayton resident, Mrs. Endicott, 88, of Port Orange, Fla., died Friday in Daytona Beach, Fla.

For a number of years, she worked with her husband, George Endicott Sr., in Endicott's Market in Dayton.

"One day out of a clear sky she said she wanted to be a beautician, that she had wanted to be a beautician since early in her life," said a son, Robert Endicott of Port Orange, Fla.

In her mid-40s at the time, Mrs. Endicott attended beauty school and launched a lengthy career as a beautician, working at salons in downtown Cincinnati, including the former Pogue's, her son said.

His mother received two national awards for hairstyling during her career, Endicott said.

A native of Massachusetts who was educated in the Williamsburg, Ohio, schools, Mrs. Endicott collected antique dolls and made miniature dolls and clothing. She specialized in hand-crafted clothespin dolls and donated many to charitable groups, her son said.

In 1979, Mrs. Endicott and her husband retired to Ocala, Fla. Mr. Endicott died in 1982.

Survivors include a son, George Endicott Jr. of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters, Lucille Breslin of Cincinnati and Sister Mary Therese Pike, CCPS, of Dayton, Ohio; nine grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A son, William Endicott, died in 1992.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Westwood United Methodist Church, Cincinnati, with visitation at 10 a.m. Wednesday and burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Bolton-Lunsford Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is in charge.
