RAY LEDFORD

Ray Ledford, 71, Robinson Road, Cynthiana, died Monday, August 17, 2009, at The UK Health Care Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.

Born in Bell County, April 21, 1938, to the late Clarence and Axie Jackson Ledford, he was a farmer.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Zendal Ledford; a brother, Robert "June" Ledford; a sister, Linda Faye Hale and a great grandson, Carl Douglas Pergram.

He is survived by: his wife, Lana Jackie Ledford; a sister, Sarah Frances Israel, Mt. Washington ; three sons, James Ledford, Evansville, Indiana, Wesley Ledford and Jerry Ledford, both of Cynthiana; three daughters, Wanda (Jeff) Pergram, Berry, Barbara (Freddie) Butcher and Donna (Chester) Knipp, all of Cynthiana; a stepson, Larry (Teresa) Cox, Harrodsburg; two stepdaughters, Jessie (Darrell) Kimberling, Nicholasville and Lana (Randy) McKinney, Lexington; 11 grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 20, at the Ware Funeral Home by Bro. Larry Jones.

Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

AMERICA NEWETT

America Combs “Ricky,” Newett, 88, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009.

Born May 12, 1921 in Breathitt County, she was the daughter of the late Asbury and Delilah Combs. She graduated from Lees Junior College in Jackson and received her master's degree from Spaulding University. She lived in Lexington and Park Ridge during World War II, and later in Harrodsburg. She worked as a teacher, played piano and sang. She and her husband were Mr. and Mrs. President of the square dancers, Beulah Twirlers.

She is survived by her son, Dan; her daughter, Norma (Michael) Hogan; her sister, Cory Fugate of Dayton, OH; two granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Newett.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 26 at St. John’s United Methodist Church on US 42 in Prospect. Burial was private in a Cave Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice.

Alexander and Royalty was in charge of arrangements.

EDWARD RILEY

Edward Earl Riley, 96, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.

He was born in Anderson County to the late Jim and Alice Holt Riley. He was a farmer, and a member of Goshen Baptist Church for 60+ years.

He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Loretta Jordan Disponett Riley, Lawrenceburg; two daughters, Shirley Ann Durr and Betty Sue Houp, both of Lawrenceburg; three sons, E. J. Riley, Lawrenceburg, Delaine Riley, Harrodsburg and Connie Joe (Patsy) Riley, Atlanta, GA; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margie Cornish, Lawrenceburg.

He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, William Durr and Raymond Houp; and two brothers, Sherman and Virgil Riley.

Funeral services will be at conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 27, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Fred Knickerbocker and Bro. Steve Broughton officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M. Wednesday.

Casketbearers will be Earl J. Riley Jr., Eric Durr, Edwin Riley, Ricky Coke, Chris Riley, Patrick Riley, Larry Coke, Eddie Durr, Mike Riley and Kevin Riley.

Honorary Bearers will be Ann and Darrell Gabhart, Ronda and Mark Wetzel, Stewart and Grace Perry, Shirley Knickerbocker, Tara Lester, Howard and Patricia Carpenter, Pete Mayewski, Clint Hardin, Buddy and Pauline White , Mildred and Charles Stratton.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Goshen Baptist Church, c/o Ann Gabhart, 1251 Bond Lane, Lawrenceburg, KY. 40342.

MARGIE BARNETT

Margie H. Barnett, 81, of Harrodsburg, widow of Otis Ray Barnett, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Dec. 30, 1927 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Ophia (Peavler) Huffman. She was a former clerk at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill and a member of Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Kaye (Glave) Burton of Harrodsburg; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lauren Burton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Douglas Barnett.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Don Burton and Wayne Spivey officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Wayne Jackson, Mike and Robbie Huffman, Chip Combs, Geoffrie Reid, and Danny Jackson. Honorary bearers are Una Noland, Helen Jernigan, Ella Long, Rose Mary Helm and Betty Parrott.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

NINA BLANTON

Nina Driskell Blanton, 77, wife of Beachel “Jack” Blanton of Frankfort, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 29, 1932 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late William Bascom and Virginia Durr Driskell. She was a retired C.N.A. for Franklin County Home Health and attended Mt. Hebron Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include four daughters, Edith Watts, Alice (B.J.) Baker, Ruby Payton and Rita (Roy) Holt, all of Harrodsburg; three sons, Donnie (Sue) Watts of Frankfort, Robbie Watts and Carl (Lisha) Watts, both of Harrodsburg; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Services were conducted Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Best officiating. A private burial was held in Monterey Cemetery in Owen County.

Active pallbearers were Steve Watts, Donnie S. Watts, Harold Driskell, Bobby Driskell, Roger Driskell and Calvin Votaw. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Votaw, Larry Votaw, Bruce Votaw, Harry Driskell, Sonny Driskell, Earl Votaw, Michael Driskell, Terry Driskell, Sherwood Driskell and Holly Driskell.

CECIL BROWN

Cecil Boone Brown, 85, of Harrodsburg, widower of Zora Lewis Griggs Brown, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009 at his home.

Born Aug. 15, 1924 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Cecil and Ada Boone Brown. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, was a retired real estate appraiser, former chief of the Right of Ways for the Kentucky Department of Highways, past president of the Lexington real estate board, former member of the Lexington Optimist Club and a member of the Central Baptist Church in Lexington. He was also a descendant of Samuel Boone, Daniel Boone’s brother.

Survivors include three daughters, Ann (Joe) Lewis Preston of Harrodsburg, Celia Lee Brown and Susan (Mike) Holman, both of Lexington; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3 at Spring Hill Cemetery.

INA CORNISH

Ina Wanda Cornish, 92, of Harrodsburg, widow of Frank Cornish, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 at her home in Harrodsburg.

Born Dec. 18, 1916 in Mackville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Grant and Mary Elizabeth (Carrico) Stumph. She was a commodities program director and a homemaker. She was a member of the Joseph Chapel United Methodist where she was the oldest member and the church historian. She also was a member of the Eastern Star, Salvisa Homemakers, Concerned Citizens, Widow to Widow and a volunteer at the Christian Life Center.

Survivors include three daughters, Frankie (Kenny) Sims, Jean Drury and Mary Emily Wheeler, all of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by three brothers, two sisters, one son-in-law, Bill Wheeler, one granddaughter and a step grandson.

Services were Tuesday, Sept. 1 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John David Lane officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carroll Drury, Pat Drury, Kelly McGinnis, Dana Bottom, Travis Wheeler, Hollie Dean, Amber Drury, Cara Drury, Lou Ann Drury, Hunter Drury, Rebecca Drury, Rosalyn Drury, Troy McGinnis, Landon McGinnis, Laci McGinnis, Mark Bottom, Nicholas Bottom, Keegan Bottom, Chris Dean, Ben Wheeler and Rachel Wheeler.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Christian Life Center.

MARY HUME

Mary Lucille Murphy Hume, 65, of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born in Taylorsville, she was the daughter of the late George Alford and Elsie Stratton Murphy. She was a homemaker and a member of Ballard Baptist Church.

She is survived by her companion, Abe Stratton of Harrodsburg; a son, Michael Wayne (Karen) Hume of Moreland; a brother, Winfred Murphy of Georgia; three half sisters, Rachel (Mickey) Robinson of Burgin, Sue (Clyde) Ritchey and Edie (Nicky) Lewis of Lawrenceburg; three half brothers, Rodney (Wanda) Murphy, James Murphy, and Johnny (Sheila) Murphy, all of Lawrenceburg; a granddaughter, a stepgrandson and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Benny, and Alfred Stratton Murphy.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

VALRIE MCMULLEN

Valrie Barker McMullen, 68, of Apollo Beach, Florida, died Sunday August 16, 2009.

She was a member of the South Shore Baptist Church in Florida.

Survivors include: her husband, Allen Russell McMullen; one daughter, Nicole McMullen (Randall) Stanley of Florida; two grandchildren, Hunter Elizabeth Stanley and Seth Christopher Stanley; a brother, Sonny (Sara) Barker of Junction City; six sisters, Pauline Bolton of Lancaster, Geneva VanArsdall and Betty (Bob) Pingleton, both of Burgin, Rita (Bob) Coulter of Stanford, Shirley (Phillip) Daly of Parksville and Barbara Vanderpool of Danville.

A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. Saturday August 22, 2009 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster.

HAROLD MUSICK

Harold Dean Musick, 60, of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Jan. 17, 1949 in Cleveland, VA, he was the son of the late Herman Roscoe and Virgie Smith Musick. He was a former dairy farmer and employee of General Cable in Lawrenceburg.

Survivors include one son, Aaron Dean Musick and his fiancée Heather and her son Aiden Harris, all of Harrodsburg; and a special friend, Ruth Musick.

Graveside services were Monday, Aug. 31 at the Spring Hill Cemetery with Richard McKinley officiating.

ERNIE PATTON JR.

Ernie Patton, Jr., 67, of Salvisa, husband of Bonnie Sheffield Patton, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 31, 1941 in Mary, he was the son of the late Ernie Ray and Edith (Taulbee) Patton. He was a farmer and truck driver.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Clara Jackson of Harrodsburg, Sharon Staton of Salvisa; two sons, Stanley (Angie) Patton of Salvisa, Scott (Allison) Patton of Harrodsburg; five sisters, Allene Wells of Frankfort, Martha Tyra and Exie Beasley of Campton, Zelma Combs and Priscilla Collins of Cincinnati, OH; a stepgrandson and four grandchildren, Bridgette Staton, Levi Patton, Mason Patton and Nathan Patton.

Predeceased by a son, Richard Lee Patton; one grandson, Brian Lee Perry; three sisters, Bernice Howell, Daisy Martin and Otella Carson; and four brothers, Lee, Richard, Kenneth and Buford Patton.

Services were Monday, Aug. 31 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Salvisa.

Pallbearers were David Creech, Robert Creech, George Patton, Kevin Waterfill, Jimmy Howard, Ed Nichols, Rick Moberly and Eddie Browning.

OLAH SINKHORN

Olah Mae Clem Sinkhorn, 93, of Junction City, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Thursday, April 6, 1916 in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Mack and Nora Christerson Clem.

She worked at the Servomation and retired from theDollar Store. Mrs. Sinkhorn was a member of Faith Fellowship Church. She enjoyed dancing, shopping, cooking and crochet.

Survivors include: four sons, Bobby (Cheryl) Sinkhorn of Junction City, Gary (Eydie) Sinkhorn of Parksville, Jerry (Cathy) Sinkhorn and Mike (Rhonda) Sinkhorn, both of Junction City; two daughters, Linda (Lewis) Hogue and Brenda Gwinn, both of Junction City; three sisters, Ellen Galloway of Junction City, Delcie Belcher of Richmond, and Thelma Richardson of Junction City; several local grandchildren and one, Rhonda Slone, of Ohio; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Orville Sinkhorn, one daughter, Norma Sinkhorn, infant children Ima Jean and David Lee Sinkhorn; brothers, Woodrow and Shelby Clem; and one sister, Inez Kidd.

An Appreciation of Life Service was held Monday, August 31, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Chuck Robinson officiating. Burial wwas in Junction City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers were Barry, Darren, Shane and Jason Sinkhorn, Jerry Sinkhorn, Jr. and Justin Sivis.

Honorary pallbearers were Steve, Chad, and Donald Sinkhorn, Donnie and Dewayne Hogue, Bruce Devine, and Mike Sinkhorn II.
