GAYLE BANDY

Gayle Brewer Bandy, 68, of Elizabethtown, formerly of Boyle County, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at her home.

Born Oct. 3, 1940 in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Allen Carter Brewer and Nina Wilcher Brewer. She was a member of Junction City First Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Severens Valley Baptist Church Homebound Program and the Spiritual Friends Group, both in Elizabethtown. She was a retired nurse and also retired from Modine.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Gayle (William Kendrick) Nichols of Elizabethtown; sisters, Helen (Robert) Grubbs of Versailles and Dorothy (Morris) McGirr of Danville; and two grandchildren, Ryan Keith and Ellen Lasseter Nichols, both of Elizabethtown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Keith Bandy and a sister, Carol Sharp.

Services were held Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Denton officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ed, David, and Donald Grubbs, Steven McGirr, George Johnson, Roy Lee Phillips and Steve Luttrell.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice & Palliative Care of Central Kentucky, c/o Lisa Sanford, P. O. Box 2149, Elizabethtown, KY 42702.

ROBERT GASH

Robert “Bob” Roland Gash, 84, of Sheridan, AR died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at Arkansas Hospice in Little Rock.

Born Jan. 12, 1925 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Earnest and Verna Whitehouse Gash. He was a World War II Army Air Corp. veteran, and retired as a Major in the Air Force. He was a member of Parkhill Baptist Church in North Little Rock and was retired from Champion Building Products.

Survivors include his daughter, Lisa (Paul) Grove of Sheridan; two grandsons, Jeff Grove of Benton and Paul Grove Jr. and his fianceé Bridgett Allen of Sheridan; a great-grandson, Braden Grove of Sheridan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Gash; two brothers, Donald and Clelland Gash; and a sister, Louise Divine.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 5 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Sheridan with Bro. Michael Walton officiating. A private family burial was held Tuesday, Oct. 6.

GERTRUDE HUFFMAN

Gertrude Hagan Huffman, 94, lifelong resident of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Christian Care Center of Lancaster.

Born Monday, June 14, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Tillie Leavell Hagan. She was the widow of the late Horace Clay Huffman.

Gertrude graduated from Lancaster High School in 1933. She worked at the Tille Martin 5 & 10 and the Harrodsburg Ice and Produce Company. In 1943, she went to work for the National Bank of Lancaster (First Southern Bank) and continued working there until she retired in 1980. She was a life long member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church where she was secretary of the Sunday school for 30 years, a member of the United Methodist Women for 50 years, and also a member of the Chancel Choir. She was a member of the Garrard County Historical Society, the Owsley House, and a Kentucky Colonel. She was a partner in the Fashion Shop and Marlene’s that operated from 1963-1980 in Lancaster and Berea.

Gertrude is survived by: one son, Jerry (Anita) Huffman; a granddaughter, Melissa Walker; and two great-granddaughters, Paige and Lindsey Walker, all of Lee’s Summit, MO; her sister, Emma Bourne of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Huffman, a granddaughter, Michelle Huffman, four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 6, at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Terry Vickous officiating. Burial followed in Lancaster Cemetery.

Ramsey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

KIMBERLY JUDE

Kimberly Dawn Jude, 44, of Harrodsburg died Oct. 6, 2009 at her residence in Harrodsburg.

Born August 23, 1965 in Williamson, WV, she was the daughter of Betty Coleman and Dwight Justice, both of Chattaroy, WV.

Jude was a member of Williamson High School class of 1983 and went on to attend Commonwealth College in Virginia. She worked as a store supervisor for McCrory Stores. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was also a member of the Salvisa Ruritan Club.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Tony L Jude Jr. of Harrodsburg; two children, Kimmie (Mike) Perkins of Pleasureville and Matthew Jude of Harrodsburg; brothers, Buddy Scott of Hardy, David Justice of Woodlawn, TN and Mike Justice of Chattaroy, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Friday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bohon Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Sims, Bob Baker, Bobby Hardin, Chris Royalty, James Drury and Mike Judd.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40423 in lieu of flowers.

ERNA LIDDELL

Erna Jeanne Liddell, 72, of Columbiana, AL died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at an Alabama hospital.

She was born on April 7, 1937 in Knott County and formerly resided in Harrodsburg.

She is survived by her husband, Dick Liddell; a son, Terry Liddell; siblings, Helen (Earl) Reynolds, Clarence (Vicki) Caudill, Charles “Tiny” (Edith) Caudill, Polly Ann Woods, Robert Douglas Caudill, Lois (Lee) Dean, Kenneth (Shelia) Caudill, Sharon Caudill and Lennis “Bubba” Caudill; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Friday, Oct. 2 at Bolton Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Stone and the Rev. Phillip Rush officiating. Burial was in the Vernant Park Baptist Church Cemetery in Magnolia Springs, AL with the Rev. Bill Stephens officiating.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce Caudill, Doris Sue Bentley and Marsha Wilcher.

DIXIE NORRIS

Dixie Arnold Norris, 69, wife of Ethbert “Sonny” Norris, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Jan. 6, 1940 in Washington County, she was the daughter of Jesta Clark Arnold and the late Loyd Thurman Arnold. She was the secretary for Kentucky Finance where she worked for 26 years. She was a member of the Carpenters Christian Church where she served on the Camp Calvary Board of Directors.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by one son, Phillip (Terri) Norris; and four grandchildren, Rachel Norris, Caitlin (Justin) Johnson, Jeremy Johnson and Tracy Cruz.

Services were conducted Friday, Oct. 2 at the Carpenters Christian Church with Greg Warren and Ken Ward officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Justin Johnson, Marion Rogers, David Johnson, Wayne Green, John Sims, Andy McCrystal, Jim Hicks and Jim Barrett. Honorary pallbearers were Chigger Flynn, Delmer Warren, Ken Daggett and Maurice Baker.

ROBERT PATTON

Robert Parl Patton, 74, of Harrodsburg, husband of Beverly Sue Underwood Patton, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009 at his home in Harrodsburg.

Born Dec. 22, 1934 in Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Georgia (Branham) Patton. He was owner and operator of Bob’s Appliance & AC Repair.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Barbara Jean (Joe) Devers of Versailles; a stepdaughter, Nancy (Gary) Yeager of Harrodsburg; two sons, Robert Dale Patton of Norfolk, VA and Shaun Patton of Boynton Beach, FL; a stepson, Steve Johnson of Harrodsburg; four sisters, Sue (Jerry) Carmickle of Georgetown, Rhonda (Ernest) Lamb of Centerville, Mary Alice (Mike) Morris of Lawrenceburg and Judy Carter of Lexington; two brothers, Steve Allen (Sharon) Patton of Lexington and Bobby G. (Tonya) Patton of Redlands, CA; several nieces and nephews; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Frank Patton.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be sent to Central Kentucky Cancer Program, 217 South Third Street, Danville, KY 40422.

JAMES RANSDELL

James Garnett Ransdell, 91, of Harrodsburg, widower of Trudy Garriott Ransdell, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 at his home.

Born Oct. 30, 1917 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Claude E. and Mattie (Patterson) Ransdell. He was a WWII veteran, having served as Staff Sergeant in the 8th Army Air Corp. He was a retired dairy farmer and a lifelong member of Kirkwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Clyde E. Ransdell of Louisville; two nephews, Clyde Ransdell II and Franklin Ransdell; and three nieces, Mary Ann Fegley, Barbara Tatum and Pamela Buchanon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Ransdell; and two brothers, Willie and Harry Ransdell.

Services were conducted Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers were Bob Christiansen, Jimmy Sexton, Mike Ellis, Roscoe Jenkins, Ray Brooks and Dr. Don Notter. Kirkwood Baptist Church deacons were the honorary pallbearers.

RONNIE SHANNON SR.

Ronnie Brent Shannon, Sr., 62, of Danville passed away Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 at his home.

He was the husband of Judy Carolyn (Short) Shannon whom he married on April 20, 1968 in York, SC. Ronnie was born in Danville on Saturday, September 13, 1947 to the late Homer Lee and Lillie Mae Carrier Shannon.

He served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. in the Vietname War in which he was awarded a Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Sharpshooter Badge. Ronnie was a member of the VFW Post # 3634 of Danville, the Disabled American Veterans and the Hedgeville Baptist Church. He was a retired machine operator for Matthew Conveyor.

Survivors include: his wife, Judy Short Shannon of Danville; three sons, Ronnie Brent Shannon, Jr. of Danville, Jason Heath (Tracy) Shannon of Burgin, Christopher Ryan Shannon of Danville; four brothers, Rick (Linda) Shannon of Lawrenceburg, Melvin (Marsha) Shannon of Perryville, Ray Shannon of Danville, Dale (Barbara) Lewis of Danville; and grandchildren, Patrick, Mason, Hannah & Halle.

In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Terry Shannon and a sister, Shirley King

Funeral services were held Friday, October 2, at the Danville Church of God with Rev. Rick Shannon and Rev. Andy Turner officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wayne Franklin, Mike Wash, Matt DeWolfe, Rick Janz, Keith and Jody Shannon.

Memorial Contributions can be made to Heritage Hospice at P.O. Box 1213, Danville, Kentucky 40423.

McKnight Funeral Home, Crab Orchard, is in charge of arrangements.

CELIA SLONE

Celia B. Slone of Jonican, 84, widow of Mitchell B. Slone, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

Born June 11, 1925 in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Hattie Thacker. She was a self-employed grocery store owner and member of the Little Flock Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Joanne (Dale) Calton of Jonican; three sons, Johnnie Owen (Lynne) Slone of Harrodsburg, David Mitchell (Lisa) Slone of Jonican and Jimpy Dale (Debbie) Slone of Lexington; two brothers, Theodore Thacker of Lurain, OH and John Thacker Jr. of Harold, KY; three sisters, Nancy Jane Slone of Hurricane, Bernie Layne of Pikeville and Polly Slone of Jonican; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Pearlie Faye Slone; and three brothers, Jimpy Thacker, Thaniel Thacker and Berry Thacker.

Services were held at Little Flock Church Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009.

Burial was in the Thacker Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, James Dale Calton, Bobby Calton, Christopher Slone, Clay Slone, Mitchell Slone, Joshua Damron and two great-grandsons, Erik Calton and Lance Slone.

RUDOLPH BAKER

Rudolph “Jake” Baker, 60, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at his residence.

Born February 25, 1949 in Washington County he was the son of the late Chester and Elizabeth Odor Baker.

He was an industrial chimney worker for High & Low Chimney Company and was a musician, avid fisherman and race car fan.

Survivors include: three sons, Ricky (Rhonda) Baker of Burgin, Jeff (Angela) Baker of Harrodsburg and Brad Baker of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Cynthia (Charlie) Lawson of Harrodsburg; four brothers, Bruce (Patty) Baker of Burgin; Connie Baker, Gary Baker and Mike Baker all of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Tammy Lyons of Harrodsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Marsha Lister Baker and Leshia Lister Baker.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 10, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Hilary Claypool and Bro. Edward Turpin officiating. Burial was in Parksville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dustin Griffieth, Jeremy Hicks, Dereck Whitis, Taylor Lunsford, Junior Whitis and Charlie Lawson.
