WILLIAM WISE

William B. Wise, 83, of Columbus, Ind., formerly of Boyle County, died Friday in Columbus. He was the widower of Mildred Hollon Wise.

Born October 9, 1925, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Martha Crain Wise.

Mr. Wise was a retired employee with the state of Kentucky and a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy and the Air Force. He was a member of Taylorsville First Baptist Church and the Taylorsville VFW. His hobbies included making and collecting canes, being an avid baseball and wrestling fan, and he loved gardening and working in his flowers.

Survivors include: two sons, Wm. Prescott “Scott” (Christen) Wise of FL, and Raynold Wise of IN; three sisters, Lottie Hendren of Harrodsburg, Myrtle Layton of Danville and Hope Kendrick of Lebanon; two brothers, J. B. Wise of Louisville and Claude Wise of Perryville. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Maggie Wise of Indiana; and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 20, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville by Rev. John David Lane. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Perryville, Ky. military rites were performed by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers were Charles Hendren, Chester Bottoms, Earl Bailey, Clifton and Kenny Wise and Jimmy Kerr.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Salvation Army.

WILLIAM BURGESS

William James Burgess, 53, of Lexington, died Saturday, October 24, 2009 in the St. Joseph Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born Aug. 16, 1956 in St. Joseph, MO, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Alice (Hoover) Burgess. He was a self employed scrap metal dealer.

Survivors include a daughter, Reva Burgess; three brothers, Kenneth (Sherrie) Burgess, and Paul Burgess, Kansas, and James Burgess, Lexington; two sisters, Linda Amador, Texas and Alice Burgess, Colorado; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rhonda Burgess and a brother, Henry Burgess.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 3 p.m. (CST) Friday, October 30, 2009 at St. Joseph Memorial Park in St. Joseph, MO. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the cemetery.

Meierhoffer Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements in Missouri.

Sims Funeral Services of Harrodsburg is in charge of local arrangements.

JAMES CASEY

James "Elmo" Casey was born August 27, 1907 in Shelby County, Kentucky to James Henry and Lydia Carpenter Casey and departed this life on October 22, 2009.

Mr. Casey celebrated his 102nd birthday with a gathering in Mt. Eden, Kentucky on August 29, 2009. As a special commendation, the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky presented him with a citation for being an outstanding citizen and living life to its fullest.

Mr. Casey had two children, Virginia Louise (Charles) Newlen of Louisville, Kentucky and James Elmo (Oleta) Casey, Jr. of Williamsburg. He had six grandchildren: Scott Newlen and Mark (Cherie) Newlen of Louisville; Sibyl (Don) Stricklin, Williamsburg; Lyndon (Alith) Casey, Grand Island, Florida; Jeffrey Casey, Greensburg, and Barry (Terry) Casey, Mercer County, Kentucky. There are six great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Elmo was a Kentucky Colonel of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, a charter member of the Mt. Eden Ruritan Club and a member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Mt. Eden, Kentucky.

He was an avid sportsman; hunting, fishing and horseback riding most of his life. In 1962 he retired from farming.

Elmo was preceded in death by his wife, Edna, of 72 years in 1997, three brothers; Ernest, Meredith (Pete), Everett and two sisters, Ethel and Velma Frances. He was loved and honored by family and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 24, at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Michael Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, P. O. Box 89, Mt Eden, KY 40046.

MARGARET COLLIER

Margaret Helen Collier, 89, of Harrodsburg, widow of Belve Collier, died Saturday, October 24. 2009 at her residence.

Born January 4, 1920 in Cornishville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Elwood and Elizabeth Yeast Peavler.

She was retired from Cricketeer after 24 years, a member of the Cornishville Baptist Church where she served as a Bible School Helper, and had been a cook at the Cornishville School cafeteria. She enjoyed flowers, quilting, cooking, and canning.

Survivors include her daughter, Beuna Gayle Grigsby of Harrodsburg; two sons, Byron Elwood Collier and Belve Lynn (Stephanie) Collier, all of Harrodsburg; one niece and one nephew; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons Marvin Lee and Maurice Evans Collier; seven brothers, two sisters, three grandchildren and one great- great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 27 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Mark King and the Rev. Andrew Dyer officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Jones, Billy Grider, George Hendrix, Lee Howard Releford, Aubrey Mullins and Ron Hartman. Honorary pallbearers were Hunter Coleman, James Benham and Chris Benham.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Cornishville Baptist Church Building Fund, 851 Jackson Pike, Harrodsburg, KY 40330, and/or Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40423 and/or Gideons International, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

SYLVIA COYLE

Sylvia Coyle, age 84, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born December 31, 1924 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward Franklin and Stattie Gritton Camic.

She was a former employee of Palm Beach, Citizens Bank and Farmers Bank and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Durham of Danville; one sister, Louise Noel of Crestview; one granddaughter, Denise (Tyler) Long; two grandsons, Clay (Alisha) Durham and David (Lisa) Durham, and nine great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 30 at the Spring Hill Cemetery by Larry Camic. Family requests no flowers.

MARIE GOODLETT

Marie Goodlett, 85, died Monday, October 26, at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born July 12, 1924 in Monticello to James Chris Carroll and Katherine Burris, she was a former baby sitter, a Baptist, and enjoyed sewing and cooking.

Survivors include one son Clarence (Louise) Goodlett, Jr., of Harrodsburg; one brother James (Ruby) Carroll of Burgin; six grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and six great- great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Goodlett; one daughter, Sarah Margaret Hurst; three infant sons and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Mike Conover officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

CLYDE JACKSON

Clyde Lanning Jackson, 69, died October 22, 2009 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born August 4, 1940 in Ashland, he was the son of the late Clyde and Mabel Caudill Jackson. He was a retired school teacher and principal from Fayette County. His passion was music and he was an excellent piano player.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church Disciples of Christ, the Lexington Musicians Union, past president of the Harrodsburg Lions Club and a recipient of the Lion of the Year Award. He also served on the Senior Citizens Board, several committees of the Ragged Edge theatre and was a volunteer at Christ's Closet for several years.

He is survived by his wife Linda Webster Jackson; brother Tim (Paula) Jackson of Louisville; his nephew Paul (Leslie); two nieces, one nephew; seven grand nieces and nephews: step-children Kevin (Molly) Knox, Bryan (Jenny) Knox, Tim (Shannon) Knox, and seven grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Monday, October 26, 2009 at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with Rev. Mark Thompson and Rev. Phil Williams officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bryan Knox, Kevin Knox, Tim Knox, Jacob Knox, Paul Jackson, Trevor Lindemier and Ritchie Lampton.

The Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Cancer Society, 1504 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502 and/or the GBS/CIDP Foundation, 104 ˝ Forrest Ave., Narbert, PA. 19072.

DOROTHY MARTIN

Dorothy Lucille Warmoth Martin, 86, widow of Arthur Lee Martin, died Oct. 25, 2009 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 30, 1923 in Richmond, she was the daughter of the late William Lafayette and Anna Marie Thomas Warmoth.

She was a seamstress at Cowden Manufacturing for 32 years and a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Pepper Martin Bell of Danville; one brother; Morris (Phyllis) Warmoth of Dallas, TX; three sisters, Peachie (Mrs. Arvil) Sinkhorn and Nancy Ellen (Martin) Collins, both of Akron, OH and Anna Mae (Floyd) Yocum of Stanford; two grandchildren, Billie Michelle Martin Tarter and Kelly Adams, both of Danville, and two great-grandchildren, William Bradley Murphy of Stanford and Joscelyn Rachele Brown of Danville, and one great-great-grandchild, Brylee Taylor Murphy.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 29, at 11 a.m. at the Stith Funeral Home in Danville with Rev. John Westerfield officiating. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family requests memorial donations to Heritage Hospice.

EULAS MOORE

Eulas Hadden Moore, age 86, of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday at the Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

He was the son of the late Redmon and Omie Holman Moore.

He was a member of First Christian Church, a retired salesman with American Efird Thread Mill, and a farmer. He was a 1941 graduate of Salvisa High School, and was a WWII Army Veteran serving in London.

He is survived by: his wife of 66 years, Clarice Austin Moore, Lawrenceburg; one son, Donald (Kay) Moore, Griffin, GA.; and one daughter, Connie Kormanyos, Marco Island, FL.

He was preceded in death by a brother, George Omer Moore.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 25, at the Gash Memorial Chapel, Lawreneburg, with Rev. Jim Wheeler officiating. Burial followed in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Doug Black, Ed Kormanyos, Greg Miller, Don Moore, Ronnie Broce and Omer Wayne Moore.

EDWARD SHIELDS

Edward Lee Shields, 87, of Frankfort died Friday, October 23, 2009 at Golden Living Center following an illness.

A native of Franklin Co., he was born, January 21, 1922 and was a U.S. Army WWII and Korean War Veteran where he retired as an Engineer. Mr. Shields was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Harrod Shields; children, Jerry Shields, TX, and Elizabeth Ann Scannell, TN; step-sons, Jerry Cartwright, Salvisa, Jack Cartwright and Glenn Cartwright, both of Frankfort; six grandchildren, one great granddaughter, two nephews and three nieces.

He was the son of the late Lee and Mary Elizabeth Hambrick Shields.

Mr. Shields was also preceded in death by his brother, Sydney Thomas Shields, and sisters, Irone Penn, Nell Wilson, Stella O’Nan and Lillian Pulliam.

Services were conducted from Harrod Brothers Funeral Home Monday, October 26, 2009. Rev. Everett Hawkins officiated. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Woodford County, where military honors were observed by VFW Post 4075.

Pallbearers were James Polsgrove, John Van, Walter Booth, Don Brewer, Fred Pless and Scotty Booth.

Honorary bearers were the Deacons of Faith Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the National Emphysema Foundation, 128 East Ave., Norwalk, CT 06851.

Arrangements were under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home.
