VERNON McMILLIN

Vernon L. McMillin, 84, of Danville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, in Danville.

Born Nov. 28, 1925, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Erna and Ethel Isham McMillin. He was a retired Fore Hearth Operator of Corning Glass and a longtime member of the Danville Church of Christ. He was a WWII Navy veteran .

Survivors include: his wife, Ann Merriman McMillin; one son, Gary W. McMillin of Indianapolis, IN; one daughter, Lisa (Mark) Hobbs of Folsom, LA; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his brother, James McMillin and his sister, Edith Noel.

Funeral services were conducted Jan. 13 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Scott Vifquain officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terry Graham, Barney Roper, John Simms, Art Bradley, Carl Bottoms, and Harold Godbey. Honorary pallbearers were Kelly Holland, Tom Hollon, Bob Newby, Heath Stone, and Earl Adams.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

ARLIE ROYALTY

Arlie Roscoe Royalty, 93, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 13, 1916 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Booker T. and Nannie Lee (Burrus) Royalty. He served during World War II in the Army. He was retired from construction and a member of the Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter-in-law, Debbie Royalty; one granddaughter, Ann Marie Ratliff ; 12 nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son; David Roscoe Royalty.

Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Eddie Long, Don Long, Jim Newby, Jerry Newby, Jimmy Norvell and Walden Adkinson.

ELIZABETH SELBY

Elizabeth “Bessie” Selby, 86, widow of Mack “Hollywood” Selby, died Sunday January 3, 2010 at the St. Joseph Hospice Care Center.

Born March 27, 1923 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Edgar and Stella Collier Selch May.

She was a homemaker and a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Danny Edward (Julie) Selby of Lexington; and two grandchildren, Margaret Elizabeth Selby and Zachary McDaniel Selby.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Virgil May, Lillard May and Benny May, and two sisters, Lillian May and Dorothy May.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, January 12, in Bellevue Cemetery with Bro. Steve James officiating.

The family requests memorial donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass, c/o St. Joseph Hospital, One St. Joseph Dr., Lexington, Ky. 40504.

SHANE WILDER

Shane E. Wilder, 40, of Harrodsburg died Monday, Jan. 11, 2009.

Born March 4, 1969 in Lexington, he was the son of James Harvey and Dorothy Severance Wilder. He was a supervisor for Montaplast in Frankfort and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Melissa Wilder of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Samantha Shane Wilder and a son, Justin Lee Adams, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Shawn and Jason Wilder, both of Crab Orchard; one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor James Severance officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

RUBLE WINSTON JR.

“Junior” Winston, 73, of Versailles, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at his home.

Born Dec. 27, 1936 in Florence, AL, he was the son of the late Ruble Moss and Effie (Grigsby) Winston. He was a assistant superintendent for Kentucky Utilities for 42 years and a member of the Harrodsburg Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Jo Anne (Sanders) Winston; one daughter, Nancy Jo (Lucien) Franscini of Arlington, TX and two sons, Richard Moss Winston of Madison, IN, Mark Sanders (Susan) Winston of Hanover, IN; two sisters: Waulene Lucas of Nicholasville, Peggy Clark of Memphis, TN; ; five grandchildren, and special caregiver, Quincy Chamberland.

Funeral services were conducted Jan. 11 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Milton Tackett, Art Hembree, Lonnie Campbell, Preston Kennedy, Cleo Sanders, Charlie Thompson and Mike Matherly.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

BRUNELL YOUNG

Brunell S. Young, 90, of Harrodsburg, widow of Carl Young, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.

Born Dec. 25, 1919 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Bertner Reed Sanders. She was a retired Mercer County Judge secretary and had served as judge-protem for many years. She was also past secretary of the Mercer Chamber of Commerce for a number of years, and was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include: one sister, Eloise (J.W.) Seltsam of Danville; one brother, Glendon Sanders of Nicholasville; eight nephews and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Byford, Elwood, and Kenneth Sanders.

Funeral services were conducted Jan. 7 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Mark Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Jim Fitzgerald, Jake Leonard, Bill Lester, Joe Stevens, Gary Houchins, and Lee Dean.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg Christian Church, 305 South Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or a charity of one’s choice.

J. T. BOTTOM

James Taylor (J. T.) Bottom, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 28, 1927 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Taylor and Mary Frances Bottom and widower of Harvest Mae (Prewitt) Bottom.

He was a U. S. Army Veteran where he served in the Phillipines, a retired Signet & Clark employee and a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Joseph D. Bottom of Waynesboro, PA; three brothers, Darrell Bottom and Wathan Bottom, both of Harrodsburg and Walter Bottom of Greensburg, IN; two sisters, Wandola Cheatham of Harrodsburg and Barbara Steele of LaCanta, FL; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Donald W. Bottom and Carlos E. Bottom; one daughter, Joyce G. Donahue; and three brothers, William, Neil, and Bobby Bottom.

The funeral was conducted Monday, Jan. 18 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Logue officiating. Burial with military Honors was in Spring Hill Cemetery with Bill Pike, Steven Reed, Jonathan Bowles, Mike Medley, Darrell Bottom and Wathan Bottom serving as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

JOHN BOTTOM

John Bottom, 90, of Mackville, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010 at Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

A native of Washington County, he was born Oct. 4, 1919 to the late Robert D. and Ethel T. Harmon Bottom.

He was a retired farmer and mason worker.

Survivors include his wife, Marian Harmon Bottom; three sons, Bennie (Janice) Bottom of Burgin, Dale Bottom and Stevie Bottom, both of Mackville; two daughters, Lou Sagracy of Mackville and Phyllis “Mag” Bottom of Springfield; three brothers, Ernest (Nannie Lou) Bottom and Arthur (Juanita) Bottom, all of Mackville and Billy (Lily Mae) Bottom of Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Jewell Bottom and Beatrice Taylor, both of Harrodsburg and Jean (Hunter) Casey of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, Bobby Bottom and Donald Bottom; four sisters, Alma Albertson, Ida Elliott, Doris Perkins and Opal Settles.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 16 at Carey & Son Funeral Home, with Rev. Nelson Reynolds and Rev. George Hourigan officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Serving as pallbearers were Carl “Bubba” Bottom, Jamie Bottom, Nikki Bottom, Josh Burns, Ginger Bottom and John Bob Sagracy.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MARY BRADSHAW

Mary Elizabeth VanDyke Bradshaw, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 in Frankfort.

She was the daughter of the late Edward and Lucy Mae Smith VanDyke.

She is survived by her husband Rev. Herman Bradshaw; three daughters, Mary (Jerry) Bedinger, Loretta (Robert) Bean and Sandra VanDyke, all of Harrodsburg; five sons, Gary (Donna) Smith, Steven Smith, Cecil (Beverly) Smith, Tilton (Lois) Bradshaw all of Harrodsburg and Mark (Angie) Smith of Ashland; 27 grandchildren 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Little Zion Baptist Church in Burgin.

GLANCY HOGUE

Glancy Hogue, 70, of Liberty died Tuesday January 12, 2010 in Harrodsburg.

Born April 15, 1939, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late James and Naomi Smith Hogue.

He was retired from the state highway department and a member of Grove Ridge Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Chris Hogue of Stanford, Craig Hogue of Liberty and Cliff Hogue of Burnside; one sister, Kathleen Durham of Hamilton, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday, January 17, at the Bartle Funeral Home in Liberty. Burial was in Middleburg Cemetery.

HELEN HOGUE

Helen L. Hogue, 83, of Danville, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center after a long illness.

Born July 24, 1926 in Junction City, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mamie Clem Hogue. She was a graduate of Boyle County High School, a retired cashier and was a member of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard Cornell of Gustine, CA and James (Jeanette) Cornell of Danville; one daughter, Karen (David) Mason of Alameda, CA; two brothers, Arthur and Lewis Hogue, both of Junction City; one sister, Roberta Hogue of Danville and seven grandchildren.

There will be no visitation or services. Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg are in charge of arrangements.
