ROSCOE BROWN

Salvisa man dies in fire

A Salvisa man is dead after a fire destroyed his mobile home Monday night.

Preliminary autopsy results show 67-year-old Roscoe Brown died of smoke inhalation, according to Salvisa Fire Chief Howard Fallis.

Firefighters were called at the scene around midnight Monday night when a neighbor reported hearing a loud booming sound seeing flames a few minutes later. Fallis, who was the first firefighter to arrive at the scene, said the trailer Brown lived in was completely engulfed in flames, and the roof was starting to collapse when the first firetrucks arrived. He said it took about 20 minutes before firefighters were able to enter the structure, at which time they found Brown’s body in the kitchen.

Fallis said it appeared Brown had been working on a heater when the fire ignited, “(He) was in a position where we believe he was doing something with his heater,: Fallis said. “It was our suspicion that the fire originated from a heat source. We don’t know what type of heat he was using, but we found kerosene heaters, some propane containers in the yard and some electric heaters in the trailer.”

Funeral arrangements for Brown are pending at McKinney Brown Funeral Home in Liberty.
