JESSIE DEVINE

Jessie P. Devine, 86, of Burgin, widow of Elza Devine, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 23, 1923 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Louise (Lyons) Pittman. She had worked at the former Ideal Laundry and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: four daughters, Hazel (Donald Ray) Baker of Harrodsburg, Mary Preston of Danville, Violet (Lewis) Carey of Burgin and Mamie (Thomas) Carey of Lancaster; three sons, Billy (Carol) Devine of Danville, Ralph Devine of Burgin and Bobby (Pat) Devine of Gravel Switch; three sisters, Alice Baker and Irene Baker, both of Harrodsburg, and Gladys Ransdell of Salvisa; two brothers, Jimmy Pittman and Clarence Pittman, Jr. both of Harrodsburg; 17 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five grandchildren and three brothers.

Funeral services were conducted Feb. 27 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenny Queener and Travis Alltop officiating. Burial was in the Burgin Memorial Garden.

Pallbearers were: Rodney Raley, Gary Dearing, John Stein, Carl Watts, Lee Shannon, Chris Devine, and Aaron Raley. Honorary bearers were: Thomas Carey Jr., Bobby Devine, Jr., Jimmy Carey, Darrell Dearing, Mike Hume, Sr., and members of the Sunshine Sunday School Class.

DONALD DRURY

Donald G. Drury, age 76, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Heritage Hall Health Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

He was born in Mercer County. He is the husband of the late Margaret DeWitt Drury, and son of the late Everett and Ruby Yates Drury.

He was a retired Plant Manager with Kentucky Overall Co. in Lawrenceburg, and a farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church and attended Tyrone Baptist Church in Lawrenceburg; He was a Marine veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the VFW #4075 in Frankfort.

He is survived by: two sons, Rick Drury, Winchester, and Glenn (Jennifer) Drury, Lawrenceburg; three grandchildren, Daniel Drury (Tiffany Gregory), Erin Drury, Lawrenceburg, and Peri Drury, Winchester; one sister, Lovena (John Henry) Disponett, Lawrenceburg; a special friend, Elaine Davenport, Lawrenceburg; and two nieces, Roxie (Clark) Rowland, and Patsy Kearns, Lawrenceburg.

He was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Nancy Drury, a sister, Christine Pontrich, and a niece, Vickie Kinder.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, February 28, at the Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Rev, Jim Wheeler and Bro. Mark Webb officiating. Burial followed in Lawrenceburg Cemetery with military Rites.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Coaches vs Cancer/ Anderson County, 1504 College Way, Lexington, KY 40502.

Casketbearers were John Michael Kearns, Kenny Goodlett, Dave Disponett, Dale Rowland, Jamie Rowland, Tony Webb, Larry Basham, and Perry Watson.

Honorary bearers were John Henry Disponett, E.J. Riley, Charles Duncan, Coy Sea, June Wiley, Clark Rowland, Michael Ray, Daniel Dadisman, and Bill Reinle.

MYRTLE GIBSON

Myrtle Lucille Case Gibson, 94, formerly of Danville, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010.

Born in Boyle County on Sept. 14, 1915, she was the daughter of Arthur and Nellie Frances Combs Case and the widow of James Patrick “Gip” Gibson. She graduated from Junction City High School and earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from the Danville School of Practical Nursing. She was a member of Lexington Ave. Baptist Church and had been a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children, James L. (Patty) Gibson, Jack (Regina) Gibson, Joseph A. (Paula) Gibson, Jean Gibson (Teddy Joe) Sutton, all of Danville, and Janet Lea Gibson (Jerry) Eldridge of Garrard County; two sisters, Marie (Kyle) Crain, Danville and Edna Pollard, Cape Girardeau, MO. and a brother, Carl (Libby) Case of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Jason Carl “Jack” Gibson.

Funeral services were conducted March 1 at Lexington Ave. Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Valentine officiating. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery. The grandchildren were the active pallbearers and the great-grandchildren were the honorary pallbearers. Stith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of love may be sent in her memory to the Activities Department at the Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation, 642 N. Third St., Danville, Ky. 40422.

FRANCES HAMMACK

Frances E. Hammack, 50, of Harrodsburg, wife of Roy L. Hammack, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 in Harrodsburg.

Born Dec. 31, 1959 in Lexington, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Gladys (Wright) Edminston. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: her husband, Roy L. Hammack, and two sons: Ryan William Johnson and Andrew Christian Edminston; one sister, Sherry Buckley and two brothers: Tommy “T. J.” Johnson and Hugh Edminston Jr.; three grandsons.

She was predeceased by a sister: Mary Celine Edminston.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

PATRICIA MORSE

Patricia Ann Morse, 81, of Danville, widow of Reuel Morse, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 21, 1929 in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of the late Glenn and Margaret (Meyer) Daggett. She was a bookkeeper for James Barnett Co. and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Survivors include: a daughter: Linda Marie (David) Burgess of Richmond, VA and four sons; Gary Michael (Debrah) Morse of Black Mountain, NC, Reuel Richard (Elizabeth) Morse of Lexington, William Patrick Morse of Harrodsburg and John Paul (Patricia) Morse of Lawrenceburg: seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral Mass was held March 3 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church with Ft. Danny Schwendeman officiating. Burial was in the St. Nicholas Cemetery.

MARY NEWTON

Mary V. “Woodie” Newton, 81, of Harrodsburg, wife of John “Jack” Newton, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born June 17, 1928 in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Woodson William and Mary M. Druien Vaughn. She was a retired Harrodsburg Independent School District teacher and had taught in the Madison County School District as well. She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors in addition to her husband include: two daughters, Betsy (Bruce) Newton Gillespie of Lancaster and Mary Anna (Curry) Newton Woods of Bel Air, MD and four grandchildren, Jessica G. Hagan, John Gillespie, Anna Woods, and Luke Woods.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at the Spring Hill Cemetery, with the Reverends Andy and Stephanie Wing officiating.

In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church, 326 S. Main St., Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

LINDA PENNINGTON

Linda Pennington, 67, wife of Stanley Pennington of Mercer County, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Sept. 26, 1942 in Lexington, she was the daughter of Louise Dulin Stivers of Lexington and the late Jason Stivers. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in McAfee.

Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by four sons: Robert (Margo) Plunkett of Burbank, CA, Ronald (Angela) Pennington, Stanley (Kim) Pennington and David (Sandy) Pennington, all of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Angela Pennington and Tina (Tony) Thompson, both of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Charles Stivers and James Dulin, both of Lexington; one sister, Pam Shook of Lexington, 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two siblings, Sandra Stacy and Pat Christian.

Funeral services were conducted Feb. 27 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Brad King officiating. A private burial was held in the Danville Memorial Gardens with Nathan Mayes, Nick Pennington, Jason Thompson, Blake Pennington, Dylan Smith, Eddie Stacy and Tony Thompson serving as pallbearers. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.

CARL PHILLIPS

Carl Phillips, Sr., 85, of Lexington, died Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington.

Born March 21, 1924 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late David W. and Mattie Kurtz Phillips. He was a retired bus mechanic with Fayette County Board of Education, a U.S. Army W.W. II veteran, a member of the Highlands Baptist Church in Lexington where he served as a trustee for 10 years, chairman of ushers for 6 years, and a member of Old Men’s Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lorraine Cox Phillips; a daughter, Mary Louise Cottrell of Lexington; a son Carl (Martha) Phillips, Jr. of Pikeville; a sister, Lena Sims of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Stanley (Frances) Phillips of Lawrenceburg and Raymond (Mildred) Phillips of Taylor, MI; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Minnie Elizabeth Phillips; son-in-law Thomas Cottrell; three sisters, Sarah Hall, Lela Phillips, and Ruth Grider and three brothers, David W. Phillips, Jr., Albert and Alvin Phillips.

Funeral services were held March 1 at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Pastor J. K. Pierce officiating. Burial was in the Hebron Cemetery in Anderson County.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601.

NANCY RAUTE

Nancy Jean Raute, 49, of Nicholasville, wife of Michael Raute, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010 at her residence.

Born May 24, 1960 in Milwaukee, WI, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Beatrice Brunner Bauer. She was a former employee of K-Mart in Lexington and a member of the Southland Christian Church in Lexington where she was a member of “Celebrate Recovery”.

Survivors besides her husband include one son, Tyler Broncatti of Milwaukee WI; two step daughters, Marsha Raute of Milwaukee and Amy Raute of Columbia, MO; and a very special friend, Shari Presley of Nicholasville.

A memorial service was conducted March 1, 2010 at the New Hope Fellowship Church, with Bro. Ronald Riley officiating. Sims Funeral Services in Harrodsburg was in charge of arrangements.

MARGARET WILLS

Margaret Lear Wills, 87, widow of Warren C. Wills, of Lexington, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010.

A native of Burgin, she was the daughter of the late George and Benna Fallis Lear.

She was member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Surviving is a brother, Pat Lear, Burgin.

Funeral service were conducted Friday, February 26, at the Centenary United Methodist Church Chapel with interment in Lexington Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Centenary United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

CHARLES BRADLEY

Charles Leon Bradley, 84, of Perryville died Friday at his residence. He was the husband of Georgia Newton Bradley.

Born July 13, 1925, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Charlie Moore and Lily Lucinda Derringer Bradley.

Charlie was a well-known self-employed brick mason, a member of Perryville United Methodist Church and a World War II Army veteran.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, Georgia, Charlie is survived by: two children, a daughter, Martha (Wayne) Downs of Harrodsburg; and a son, Mike (Ann) Bradley of Perryville; two sisters, Emmalene Yankey of Perryville and Mayola Lynn of Danville; and three grandchildren, Ann Shannon and Jason and Mark Bradley; three stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Charlie was preceded in death by one son, Vaughn Bradley.

Funeral services were be conducted Monday, March 8, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville by the Rev. Lonnie Sutterfield, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roger and Roy Yankey, Jason and Mark Bradley, Dwight Boyle and Dwayne Boyd.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

SHELIA ELAM

Shelia Diane Simpson Elam, 58, of Dave Hyatt Rd. in Lancaster, passed away Saturday March 6, 2010 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

Born December 26, 1951 in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Denver Simpson and Martha DeBord Simpson of Stanford.

She was a homemaker and a retired Whirlpool employee. She was also a member of Good Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors, other than her mother, include: her husband, Donald W. Elam of Lancaster; two sons, Wendell Moier (Shirley) Anderson, Jr. of Harrodsburg, Dakota Davis of Lancaster; one daughter, Bridgett (Darik) Barnett of Waynesburg; two stepsons, Dwayne Lee Elam of Berea and Timothy Glen Elam of Mt. Vernon; one step daughter, Marca (Larry ) Coffey of Berea; two brothers, Denver (Peggy) Simpson, Jr. and Michael (Tonia) Simpson both of Stanford; three sisters, Linda “Bo” (Bobby) Martin of Crab Orchard, Kim (Marvin) Rogers of Stanford and Rhonda Simpson of Stanford; 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews .

In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Jean Brown.

An Appreciation of Life ceremony was held Wednesday, March 10, at the Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster by Rev. Jami Hamilton.

Pallbearers were Christopher S. Day, Wendell Moyer Anderson, Jim Rhodus, Roger Roberts, Doug Baker, Troy Simpson & Marcus Johnson.

Honorary bearers were Marvin Rogers and Larry Coffey.
