RICHARD CAREY

Richard Carey, 80, of Mackville, died Monday, March 8, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 23, 1930 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Andrew J. and Willie Bell Gabhart Carey. He was a farmer and long-time employee of the Washington County Co-Op Tobacco Warehouse. He was a member of Mackville Church of Christ.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty Carrier Carey; a daughter, Elaine Hendren of Fort Walton Beach, FL; two sons, Richard Allen Carey of Harrodsburg and Sandy (Cathy) Carey of Mackville; a sister, Jenetta Hinton of Louisville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle Hendren; two brothers, Paul and J. T. Carey and four sisters, Lola Beavers, Catherine Wheatley, Mabel Carney and Mary Helen Stallings.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 11 at the Mackville Church of Christ with Bro. Charles Knecht and Bro. Frank Preston officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Pallbearers were Jesse Arnold, Perry White , Mike Wheatley, Henry Beavers, Anthony Moore and Aaron Moore. Honorary Bearers were Pete Carey, Jim Powell, Norman Darland, Mark Moore, Joe Settles and Steve Settles.

Carey and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ALMA DISPONETT

Alma Ethel Riley Disponett, 91, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, March 09, 2010, at Heritage Hall Health Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

She was born in Anderson County. She was the widow of James Roscoe Disponett and daughter of the late Leonard Dudley and Ethel Satterly Riley.

She was a homemaker and a retired hairdresser; and a member of the Cornishville Baptist Church.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Truman, Sidney, Byron B., Marvin G., Lewis, and Lowell H. Riley Sr.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 12, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jolene Bailey officiating. Burial followed in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

ANNA DUNCAN

Anna Frances Duncan, 90, of Versailles, widow of Lee Duncan, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

She was born in Scott County on August 12, 1919 to the late Robert Dewey and Leona Jane Cook Morris.

Mrs. Duncan was a homemaker.

She is survived by five daughters, Barbara Sue (Mike) McMahan, Frankfort, Terri Ann (Mike) Lewis, Versailles, Nora Katherine (Jamie) Garrett, Mt. Sterling, Nina Hartley, Winchester, and Roseanna Carmickle, Versailles; four sons, Robert (Cleta) Duncan, Versailles, Clifford Wade (Margaret) Duncan, IN, Larry William Duncan, Harrodsburg, and Donald Wayne Duncan, Versailles; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service were held Sunday, March 14, at the Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill with Rev. Jerry Hardy officiating. Burial followed in Rose Crest Cemetery.

Serving as casketbearers were Thomas Carmickle, Eric Carmickle, Heath Lee Duncan, Michael Duncan, Larry Duncan Jr., Michael Wayne Becknell, and Sean Rice.

LENA GRAHAM

Lena C. Russell Graham, 85, of Mackville, died Monday, March 15, 2010, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born April 2, 1924, in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late James “Jim” and Sallie Elizabeth Mobley Russell.

She was a member of Mackville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was a retired school teacher, having taught at Mackville School for 57 years. She hosted a religious radio program on WLBN for several years, “A Thought for the Day.” She was a graduate of Mackville High School, attended Campbellsville College, Georgetown College and graduated from Eastern Kentucky University.

Survivors include: a brother-in-law, Truman Graham and a sister-in-law Unalee Graham, both of Harrodsburg; and several nephews and nieces, including Glenn Best (Barbara) of Springfield, and Marilyn Gray and Sharon Perkins of Harrodsburg; and a cousin, Roxie Jackson of Harrodsburg.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Don Graham; a sister, Virginia Russell Best and a brother, Hollis C. Russell.

Services were conducted at Wednesday, March 17, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. David Gifford officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Readnour. Burial was in Peter Cemetery, Mackville.

PATSY HUBBARD

Patsy Jean Bailey Hubbard, 77, widow of Maurice Powell Hubbard, died March 10, 2010 at Charleston Healthcare Center.

Born July 15, 1932 in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Maggie Burdine Bailey. She was a graduate of Stanford High School and attended McCormick’s Christian Church. She was a seamstress who worked at Palm Beach Company, Cowden Manufacturing and retired from Tillet’s Uniforms.

Survivors include a son, John Powell Hubbard of Stanford; a daughter, Marilyn “Sissy” (Darrell) Steinberger of Junction City; a brother, James (Jeannette) Bailey of Stanford; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren,

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 16 at Stith Funeral Home with Rev. Al Gisler officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers were Josh Worland, David Cochran, Kevin Hubbard, John Hubbard, Matt Layer and Jerry Bailey.

The family requests memorial donations to a fund for Mrs. Hubbard’s caregivers in care of the family. .

WANDA KAYS

Wanda Caton Kays, 78, of Harrodsburg, wife of James Hollis Kays and widow of Donald Caton, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.

Born January 29, 1932 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Birdee (Bailey) Claunch. She was a retired restaurant manager, having worked at the Stone Manor and Apple Tree Restaurants, and was a member of the Magnolia Street Christian Church.

Survivors include: four sons, Gary K. (Mona) Caton of Danville, Richard Caton of Seminole, FL, Steve Caton and Michael Wayne Caton, both of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were Wednesday, March 17 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Caleb Penwell officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Keith Caton, Kendall Ross, Terry Mobley, Perry Freeman, Jackie Claycomb and Carl Brent Carey. Honorary bearers were grandchildren and great grandchildren, Paige Caton, Nicci Caton, Sutter Caton, Heather Caton, Heath Caton, and Haidyn Sfura.

ROY MITCHELL II

Roy Gene II "Peewee" Mitchell II, 47, passed on March 11, 2010 at his home in Lexington, due to heart complications.

Peewee is survived by: his son Devin Jacob Mitchell; mother, Linda Mitchell; sister Kim Myers; niece and nephew, Nicole and Max Myers, and many aunts and uncles.

Predeceased by Roy Gene Mitchell "Peepa" September 2007.

Services officiated by Rev. Cleo Goodlett at Salvisa Baptist Church, 138 Kirkwood Road, Salvisa, KY 40372 (859) 865-2212 were held at at 11 a.m. Monday, March 15, with memorial services afterwards.

HUGH OTIS

Hugh Elmer Otis, 78, of Salvisa, died March 6, 2010.

He retired as a district service manager with American Machine and Foundry. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by: three children, Karen (Lamar) Rolin, Hugh Alan “Buddy” Otis, Diana (David) Ruprecht, one sister, Ruby Clemmons, 10 grandchildren four great-grandchildren.

A committal service was held on Thursday, March 11, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Betts & West Funeral Home, Nicholasville, was in charge of local arrangements.

R. D. PEYTON

Raymond Denton (R.D.) Peyton, 85, of McAfee, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his home.

Born January 10, 1925 in Spencer County, he was the son of the late Walter Raymond and Verla Robinson Peyton. He was a U.S Navy Veteran of World War II, a farmer, a 50-year Mason, an honorary member of Kentucky Trailblazers, a member of Kirkwood Baptist Church and attended Ebenezer Church of Christ.

Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Eunice Ransdell Peyton; his children, Larry (Jan) Peyton, Sharon (Jon) Clark, Steve (Jeanette) Peyton and Ric (Lucretia) Peyton, all of McAfee; two sisters, Helen Gash and Marjorie Young and one brother, Bob Peyton, all of Mercer County; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Robinson and brother, Bruce Peyton.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, March 12 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John Kesel and Terry Morrison officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers were his grandsons: Jeffrey Moon, Travis Peyton, Jason Peyton, Randy Shewmaker, Ryan Davis and Will Gentry and family friend, Garry Riley. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters: Jill Terrell, Julie Shewmaker, Sara Davis, Rachel Clark, Kelly Peyton, Stephanie Gentry and his great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Heritage Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

GERALD REYNOLDS

Gerald Reynolds, 64, Springfield, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Plumber Davis and Edna Fowler Reynolds.

Survivors include: his wife, Louise Reynolds of Springfield; a daughter, Susan Lee Reynolds of Springfield; two stepsons, John Michael Shanks of Lebanon and Daniel Shanks of Springfield; a brother, Dave Reynolds of Mackville; and a sister, Rita Huff of Mt. Vernon.

The funeral service was held Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home, Lebanon, with burial in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Brother George Hourigan officiated.

Pallbearers were Len and Bruce Milburn, Timmy Huff, Jerry Thomas Fowler, Travis Yaste and Cody Hardin.

Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of the arrangements.

VIOLA SIMS

Viola B. Sims, age 90, widow of Marshall Sims, Sr., died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital, Harrodsburg.

Born February 19, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Bonnie Williams Bailey Devine. She was a self employed homemaker/farmer and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, the Constitution Square Dancers, and the Lincoln Homesteaders.

Survivors include: a daughter: Mary Hope Hayden and a son, Marshall Sims, Jr. both of Harrodsburg; grandchildren; H. T. (Kathy) Logue, Jr., Brian (Stephanie) Sims, Melissa Sims; great grandchildren: Bailee Logue, Chase Logue, Karlie Ann Sims, and Marshall Alexander Sims, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased son, Malcolm Sims.

Funeral services were conducted 2:00 PM, Monday, March 8 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Robert DeFoor and Wayne Spivey and Darrell Agee. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg. Visitation was from 4 – 8 pm Sunday.

Pallbearers were: H. T. Logue, Jr., Brian Sims, Melissa Sims, Chase Logue, Johnny Bailey, Tommy Hayden, Bailee Logue; honorary bearers: all nieces & nephews.

EDWINA YOUNG

Sarah Edwina Young, 84, of Harrodsburg, widow of O. C. Young, Jr. died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born March 28, 1925 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Kathleen (Perkins) Phillips. She was a retired employee of Signet Manufacturing and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Tony (Betty) Young, Eddie (Brenda) Young and Phillip (Charlotte) Young, all of Harrodsburg; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Milburn and Bill Phillips.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, March 13 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John David Lane and Mark Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Jamie Sewell, Mike Matherly, Troy Young, Mark Young, Dustin Young, Leonard Rogers, Brian Logue and Derek Enlow.
