BILLY STRINGFIELD

Billy Freeman Stringfield, 63, husband of Barbara Terry Stringfield, died March 17, 2010 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 21, 1946 in Danville, he was the son of the late James C. Stringfield and Elizabeth Frye Stringfield Lay. He was a 1964 graduate of Danville High School and the owner of the Village Inn Restaurant in Burgin.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Cathy Stringfield (Heath) Harper, Kim Hitchner, Barbie (J.D.) Snow, Holly (Michael) Pilgrim and Samantha (Chad) Young; a son, David (Tina) Hitchner, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 22 at Burgin Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Story and Bro. Carl McCray officiating. Burial was in Burgin Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were: Tom Brown, Ray Beasley, Ron Ledford, Wayne Carmichael, Jim Latimer and George Hensley.

The family requests memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association. .

LOUISE WELLS

Louise Davis Wells, 90, of Frankfort, died March 18, 2010 at Tanbark Health Care Center in Lexington.

Born Sept. 13, 1919 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late John Cecil and Addye Baker Davis and a graduate of Burgin High School. She was a retired accountant with the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a member of the First Christian Church (disciples of Christ) in Frankfort.

Survivors include: a sister, Christine Huey of Lexington and several nieces and nephews, including Ann Voris of Harrodsburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clay Coy Wells Jr.; two sisters, Frances D. Voris and Imogene D. Ford and two brothers, J.C. Davis and Robert B. Davis.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 22 at Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort with Dr. John Opsata and the Rev. William McDonald officiating. Burial was in the Frankfort cemetery. Her nephews served as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church in Frankfort or the Burgin Christian Church.

BETTY BAUGH

Betty Alice Lynn Baugh, 68, of Parksville died Wednesday, March 24, 2010.

Born Oct. 31, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Montie Wilson Lynn.

She is survived by: her husband of 52 years, Warren Baugh; three daughters, Angelia Harrison and Peggy Warren, both of Parksville and Sheryl Franklin of Danville; one brother, James Earl Lynn of Danville; two sisters, Patty Kimberling of Parksville and Dorothy Wilcher of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Friday, March 26, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland with burial in Parksville Cemetery.

CHRISTINE BROUGHTON

Christine Sims Broughton, 90, widow of Cecil Broughton, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Mercy Residential Hospice in Knoxville, TN.

Born Sept. 15, 1919 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Lawson and Nellie Weatherford Gibson Sims. She had worked in sales for Federated Department Stores and was a member of the Glen Este Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Cecil Wayne (Beverly) Broughton of Lenoir City, TN; niece Geraldine (Bud) Green; nephew Howard (Charlotte) Fallis; nephew Kenneth (Phyllis) Taylor; cousin Georgia Hoover and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 1 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Vicki Ray officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Mark Green, Kevin Green, Kirk Fallis, Sean Green, Brian Ray, Steve Fish, and Jason Fish serving as pallbearers. Bud Green, Edmond Broughton, and Ronnie Ray will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 7 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Mercy Residential Hospice, 7447 Andersonville Road, Knoxville, TN 37938.

JOYCE BROWN

Joyce Ann Brown, 69, of Shelbyville, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010 at her residence with her family.

She was born on June 1, 1940 in Mercer County to John and Rosalee Butler.

She was the wife of the late James D. Brown.

Survivors include: four daughters, Toni (Gary) Simmons of Lexington, Connie (Steve Cook) Nation of Eminence, Lisa (Mark) Covington of Pleasureville, Donna (Brad) Halderman of Lexington; one son, John Brown of Pleasureville; one brother, Richard C. Butler of Harrodsburg; 29 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, family members, and friends.

She is also preceded in death by sisters, Barbara Jean Butler and Rosemary Spurlock.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, March 30, at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Rev. Chuck Umholtz officiating. Burial was at Grove Hill Cemetery

ALMA COSLOW

Alma Baker Coslow, 79, of Willisburg, died Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born April 21, 1930 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Mary Young Baker and was the widow of R. C. Coslow. She was a member of the Mackville Boosters and the Willisburg Church of Christ.

Survivors include: two daughters, Marilyn Coslow of Harrodsburg and Denise (Mark) Terrell of Willisburg; three brothers, Ruell (Doris) Baker of Lexington, Harvey (Nancy) Baker of Lawrenceburg and Maurice (Joyce) Baker of Tucson, AZ; three grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Everett Baker and a sister, Nona Mobley.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 31 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Burnice Richardson and Bro. Charlie Blevens officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Willisburg. Pallbearers were: Charles Baker, Mike Baker, Randy Baker, Bill Goodnite, Donald Jenkins and Jerry Darland.

GEORGE HOWELL

George Melvin Howell, 67, of Waynesburg, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2010 at his residence.

He was born in Somerset, on December 26, 1942, son of the late Nelson and Eula Morgan Howell.

He was retired from Keith Pallet Mill, Lebanon Barrel Factory and Kentucky Frame. He was a member of Nelson Valley Baptist Church.

He is survived by: two sons, Roscoe Nelson & (Angela) Howell of Richmond, and George Douglas (Tonya) Howell of Waynesburg; one daughter, Eula Karabeth "Kara" Howell (significant other, Jean-Marc Genier) of Eubank; former spouse, Evelyn Howell of Eubank, beloved friend, Linda LouAllen of Harrodsburg; one sister, Peggy (David) Ramsey of Science Hill; three grandchildren, Jessica Nicole Howell, Roscoe Nelson Howell Jr. and Savanna Elizabeth Howell; two great-grandchildren, Charles Leland Xavier Conley and Jaden Seth Johnson and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 2, 2010 at the Morris & Hislope Funeral Home in Science Hill with Bro. Arnold Larkin officiating.

Visitation will be after 10 AM Friday at the funeral home.

JUANITA MITCHELL

Juanita Bowen Mitchell, 79, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Calvin Hunt and Mary Bertha Royalty Bowen Sr. and was the widow of Bobby Mitchell. She was a homemaker; a member of Fox Creek Christian Church, and a longtime member of Antioch Christian Church and a 1948 graduate of Willisburg High School.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Ann Lay of Lawrenceburg; two sons, James “Jimmy” (Sheila) Mitchell of Lawrenceburg and Robert Allen Mitchell of Willisburg; three sisters, Lula Euliano of Meadville, PA, Norma Jean (Eugene) Royalty of Lawrenceburg and Bernice Thomas of Chaplin; two brothers, Raymond (Vena) Bowen of Harrodsburg and Calvin H. (Brenda) Bowen Jr. of Lawrenceburg; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Valley, and Martha “Leck” Robinson and a brother, Naamon Bowen.

Funeral services were held March 23, 2010 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Don Wells and Bro. Mark Wells officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brian Lay, Sonny Lay, Josh Mitchell, Brandon Mitchell, Stephen Mitchell, Spencer Ryan, Trent Easterling, Colin, Jackson Mitchell, and Zachary West. Honorary bearer was Albert Harris.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 9067, Louisville, KY 40209-0067 or Fox Creek Christian Church, 2020 Fox Creek Road, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

NATHAN NORMAN

Nathan “Junior” Norman, 57, of Red Hill Road, Dunnville, died Monday, March 29, 2010 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born on March 23, 1953 in Casey County, he was a son of the late Stanley and Laura Overstreet Norman.

He was a truck driver and gate dealer.

Survivors include: one son, Jay (Adrea) Norman of Hustonville; one daughter, Malissa Craig (Greg Cross) of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Chris and Tyler Watson, Austin Stangle and Ethan Craig; a great-grandchild, Shay Watson; one brother, Bud Norman of Harrodsburg; and two sisters, Betty Corn of Hustonville and Carolyn Lynn of Frankfort.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Bobby Norman.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home in Liberty by Bro. Johnny Patton. Burial will be in Thomas Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.

REBA POLSON

Reba Mae Stone Polson, 84, widow of J. S. Polson, died March 27, 2010 at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 14, 1925 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Ada Helen Butler Stone. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: a son, Ronnie (Darlene Chambers) Polson of Danville; a daughter, Sandy Fay Pollock of Lexington; a brother, Charlie Stone of Albany; three sisters, Edna Guffey of Albany, Ruby (Oscar) Cuellar of Corpus Christi, TX and Sally Wilson of New Castle, IN; two grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, March 31 at Talbott Funeral Home in Albany with the Rev. Don Davis officiating. There was a graveside service Wednesday at Junction City Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Best officiating. Pallbearers were: Alan Shepherd, Bruce Warner, Larry Casey, Jason Johnson, Kenny Malott and Clifton Malott. .

LILLIE RELEFORD

Lillie Margaret “Maggie” Releford, 88, of Harrodsburg, widow of Thomas H. Releford, died Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 24, 1921 in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late C .T. and Minnie (Key) Black Pearson. She was a retired seamstress from Cricketeer Manufacturing Company, and a member of the Ellers Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: nephew, Bobby Black; niece, Mary Evelyn Black; great-nephew, Jock Edward Black and sister-in-law, Nora Black all of Harrodsburg.

She was predeceased by two sisters: Minnie Lee Day and Mary McCormick and four brothers: Amos Black, Clifford “Tiff” Black, J.D. Black and Robert J. Black Sr. and a nephew, Ralph Black.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 29 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Donnie Releford officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Billy Releford, Roger Goodlett, Leroy Releford, Bobby Black, Paul Collier, Burford Feltner, Arvid Tackett and Scotty Southerland.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association.

CLARENCE RICE

Clarence Daniel Rice, 103, widower of Hazel Virginia Elliott Rice, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

He was born in Woodford County, son to the late John Thomas and Lillie B. Shryock Rice.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War I, was a retired farmer and a Baptist.

He is survived by his daughter, Janie Marie (Larry) Perkins, Frankfort; nine grandchildren, Everett S. Perkins, Frankfort; Janet Lynn Doss, Salvisa; Shonda Perkins, Pineville; Joseph Lee Perkins, Stuttgart, Germany; Michael Allen Sayre, Frankfort; Christina Sparrow, Frankfort; Steven Perkins, Lawrenceburg; Martin Perkins, Lawrenceburg; Rebecca Sams, Frankfort; 14 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral Service was held at 10 a.m. Tues, March 30, at the Clark Funeral Home, Versailles officiated by Rev. Doug Simpson, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
