David Barrow Dick, 80, Plum Lick Road, author, farmer, and retired network correspondent, U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, died Friday, July 16, 2010 at his home. He was born February 18, 1930 in Cincinnati, Ohio, son of the late Dr. Samuel Stephens and Lucille Crouch Dick, a graduate of North Middletown High School, and received his Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Arts Degrees in literature from the University of Kentucky. David served on the North Middletown Cemetery board, a Paul Harris Fellow of the Paris Rotary Club, a Kentucky Colonel, and was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife, Eulalie Cumbo Dick; a son, Samuel Stephens (Noelle) Dick II, Lexington; four daughters, Deborah Ann Farr, Las Vegas, NV, Catherine D. (Rusty) O'Shields, Suwannee, GA, Nell D. (Tim) Blankenship, Paris, Ravy D. (John) Luschek, Alexandria, KY; seven grandchildren, Samuel S. Dick III, Leah Dick, Christina Dick, Jay O'Shields, Joshua O'Shields, Timothy Blankenship, Celina Blankenship; a great grandson, Samuel S. Dick IV; a sister, Florence D. Marzoni, Birmingham, AL; two nephews, Harry T. (Carolyn) Richart, Dr. Anthony (Priscilla) Marzoni; and three nieces, Ann R. (Jim) Harney, Liza R. (Greg) Pennington, and Jane Marzoni. A sister, Jane D. Richart, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church by The Rev. Donavan Cain with burial in the North Middletown Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Timothy Blankenship, Samuel Stephens Dick II, Samuel S. Dick III, Harry T. Richart III, John P. Luschek II, Rusty O'Shields, Bill Bradford, and Michael Hendrix. Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren, Betty Allman, F.C. "Tyke" Bryan, Judge Sarah Combs, Glenn Conques, James Harney, Jackie Larkins, Carl McGlone, Harry T. Richart IV, Matthew Richart, Neal Richart, William B. Rogers, Ron Sheets, Robert Turley, Carl West, Dr. Scott Pierce, Dr. Thomas Stone, staff of Kentucky Living Magazine, North Middletown Cemetery Board, community of Plum Lick, and the people of Kentucky. Visitation will be 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, or the North Middletown Cemetery.

ISA CHILTON

Isa Juel Chilton, 93, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.

Born April 26, 1916 in Bohon, she was the daughter of the late Hollie Harlan and Cordelia (Ransdell) Chilton. She was a retired seamstress at Cricketeer Manufacturing and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church. He was also a member of the Quilters Group, Haggin Hospital Auxiliary and Order of the Eastern Star #309.

Survivors include: five nieces and five nephews.

She was predeceased by six siblings: Eula Woods, Edith Yeast, Boyce Chilton, Hobert Chilton, Kellis Chilton and Lewis Chilton.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 11 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Mark Thompson officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Elders of the Harrodsburg Christian Church were pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg Christian Church.

Virginia Davis "Peggy" Kiser

Virginia Davis "Peggy" Kiser, 84, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Bourbon Heights where she had been a resident for several years. She was born in Fayette County to the late Prewitt and Edna Thompson Davis. Peggy graduated from Clark County High School and in 1945 married William Harley Kiser of Paris. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Bourbon Post #30 American Legion Auxiliary, and the Legion Gun Club. Peggy is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Davis Wright; two brothers, Luther Harris (Dorcas) Davis, Joe Prewitt (Minnie) Davis, all of Bourbon County; nieces and nephews, John (Marsha) Wright, Miller (Janie) Davis, William (Connie) Wright, James (Becky) Davis, Mark (Rebecca) Davis, Robert Davis, Charlotte (Terry) Box, Susan (Castle) Redmon, Linda (David) Williams; and a number of great nieces and nephews. A younger brother, Ray Thompson Davis, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 3, at the Hinton-Turner Funeral Home by Rev. David Chumney with interment in the Paris Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Richard Eads, William Wright, James Tod David, Robert Davis, John Wright, Miller Davis, and Mark Davis. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the doctors and the staff of Bourbon Heights and Hospice of the Bluegrass for their loving care during Peggy's long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Memorials are suggested to Bourbon Heights or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

W. T. LOGUE

W. T. Logue, 89, of Harrodsburg, widower of Pauline J. Bradley Logue and Martha Jean Red Logue, died Monday, April 12, 2010 in Harrodsburg.

Born Jan. 11, 1921 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Hobert Ray and Hallie Jane (Cummins) Logue. He was a retired farmer and mechanic and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Virginia Denny and Ruth Eldridge and three sons, Paul Logue and David Logue all of Harrodsburg, and H. T. Logue of Austin, TX; one sister, Ann L. Bugg of Springfield; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by three brothers H. B., Mayron and Thomas Logue, and a grandchild, Dorsey Bradford.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 15 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bill Eldridge and Kenny Queener officiating. Burial will be in the Deep Creek Cemetery.

Visitation Wednesday, April 14 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Sovereign Grace Baptist Church Missions.

MYRTLE McRAY

Myrtle McRay, 87, of Harrodsburg, wife of Oscar “Emerson” McRay, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Stanford.

Born March 25, 1923 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Flora Mae (Collier) Bugg. She was a retired seamstress from Cricketeer Manufacturing and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Oscar Emerson McRay; three daughters, Dixie Walls and Kathy (Bob) Clark of Burgin, Rita (Kerry) Anness of Harrodsburg and one son, Gary (Sandy) McRay of OH; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John Hockersmith and Wayne Spivey officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Kyle Anness, Rob Clark, Stuart Woods, Andrew Curtsinger, Taylor Darland and Colton Darland.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of one’s choice.

MIRIAM SCHOENING

Miriam Kuechle Schoening, 85, widow of Clarence Raymond Schoening, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born May 26, 1924 in Milwaukee, WI, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Gustav and Flora Emma Eichoefer Kuechle. She was a homemaker and a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church in Danville.

Survivors include: three daughters, Bonnie Schoening of Harrodsburg, Linda (Jonathan) Hammel of Nashotah, WI., and Taj (Jim Sayers) Schoening of Milwaukee, WI. and eight grandchildren.

A memorial Service was held Monday, April 12, 2010 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor David Witten officiating.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MARY SHELBURNE

Mary Hawkins Shelburne, 92, of Lawrenceburg, died Monday, April 12, 2010 at Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

Born Sept. 14, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Lena Davis Hawkins.

She retired in 1977 from the Department for Community-Based Services and was a former field representative for the Food Stamp Program. She was a graduate of Rose Hill High School, a member of the Lawrenceburg First Christian Church and a former organist for Lawrenceburg First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Eli “Bud” Shelburne of Mt. Vernon; son-in-law, James W. York; a brother, John Hawkins of Louisville; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Shelburne York; a son, John Lewis Shelburne; a sister, Nora Shouse; and two brothers, Joseph Thomas Hawkins and Lee Van Hawkins.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, April 16 at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Wheeler officiating. A time of visitation with the family will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Steven Hawkins, James W. York, Stewart Shouse, Joe Hawkins, Tom Young and Bill Young.

Memorials are suggested to Lawrenceburg First Christian Church, 300 South Main Street, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

EUGENE WATERMAN

Eugene A. Waterman, 83, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center, where he was a resident.

Born on Feb. 26, 1927 in Hooper, NE, he was the son of the late Albert and Katherine Lamberty Waterman. He was a mechanical engineer with IBM for 22 yrs and later was a CAD draftsman with Sylvania for 10 years. He also taught blueprint and shop mathematics at Central Kentucky Vocational School and Blackburn Correctional Institute and was an active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

He is survived by two daughters; Marianne (Phillip) Franz and Pamela Callahan, both of Harrodsburg; a son Andrew Waterman of Lexington; one sister, Katherine Lucas of Westfield, IN, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn L. Miller Waterman.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 10 at the Den Herder Funeral Home in Paulding, OH. Burial was in Cooper Cemetery in Paulding.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Heritage Hospice Inc. Danville, Kentucky.

MAXINE WILSON

Maxine Tucker Wilson, 79, of Danville, died April 7, 2010 at the Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born January 3, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Ida Tucker.

She is survived by three sons: Darrell, Jeffrey and Decha Craig.

No funeral services are scheduled at this time. Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MARY YOUNG

Mary Willis Young, 75, widow of Harry Young, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born July 19, 1934 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late William Howard and Mary Smith Allen. She was a retired cook having worked at Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Beaumont Inn, Ann’s Family Restaurant, and Pioneer Restaurant and was a member of the St. Peter A.M.E. Church.

Survivors include: four daughters, Tonya McGhee of Lexington, Aquila Young of Harrodsburg, Francine Jones of Harrodsburg, and Arthenia Douglas of Lexington; six sons, Melchizedeke Young of Danville, Bartholomew Allen of Harrodsburg, Emmanuel Young of Danville, William Arthur Allen of Lexington, Jeremiah Young of Versailles, and Bobby Charles Allen of California; seven sisters, Pinky Young of Indiana, Caroline Allen of Arizona, Francis Allen of Indiana, Niecee Allen of Arizona, Terry Allen, and Vanessa Allen of Louisville; one brother, Gary Allen of Indiana, 30 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth R. Jones; three brothers, Walter, James Lee, and Bobby Allen, and two sisters, Ella Allen and Ann Young.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the St. Peter A.M.E. Church with Rev. Ralph Smith and Bro. Rico Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery with Danny Young, Thomas Young, Albert Douglas, Michael Harris, Winfield Williams, and Bentley Jones serving as pallbearers.

Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Peter A.M.E. Church.

CLEO BURKHEAD

Cleo Burkhead, age 79, of Springfield, passed away at 7:10 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

Survivors include: five sons, Kenny Burkhead of Burgin, Ricky Burkhead of Birmingham, Ala., Donald Burkhead of Chaplin, David Burkhead of Bardstown, and Spencer Burkhead of Louisville; two daughters, Connie Lewis of Willisburg and Leasa Litsey of Bardstown.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, April 18 at the Willisburg Church Of God Of Prophecy, with Rev. Steve Puckett, the church pastor, officiating.

Burial was in the Church Of God Of Prophecy Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Bruce Case, Chris Lewis, George Lewis Jr., Chris Burkhead, Joe Burden and Len Auberry.

Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.

SUSIE COX

Susie Camic Cox, 93, of Lawrenceburg, died Friday, April 16, 2010 at her residence.

Born Sept. 28, 1916 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Bell Stratton and Clay Camic and was the widow of the late Walter C. Cox. She was a housewife and member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Lawrenceburg.

She is survived by a daughter, Teresa Reynolds Holt of Frankfort; a son, Bobby G. Cox of Lawrenceburg; a brother, Clifton Camic; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 23 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Lawrenceburg. Service will be conducted by Leo Cavallaris.

Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

KATHLEEN DAVENPORT

Kathleen “Nanny” Davenport, 91, of Burgin, formerly of Junction City, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Sunday, July 28, 1918, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Rosanne Snow Gibson.

Mrs. Davenport was a homemaker and a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, babysitting, watching UK Basketball and the Cincinnati Reds, and her flowers, especially her rose garden.

Survivors include: two sisters, Evelyn Davenport and Ruth Atwood, both of Lexington; granddaughters, Teresa (Doug) Sanders of Burgin and Stefanie (Ivon) Denson of Stanford; five great-grandchildren, Erin, Cliff, Kisha, Devon, and Taylor; three great-great-grandchildren, Ella, Carter, and Jayla; special great-niece, Kim (Chip) Pearce of Danville; special great-great nephew and niece, Caden and Lauren; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Davenport, daughter, Janette Davenport, and sisters, Hattie Pemberton, Anna Cochran, and Dorothy Henson.

A Celebration of Life service was held Monday, April 19, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville with Bro. Dale Denton officiating. Burial followed in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Karl Luttrell, Johnny Davenport, Chuck Sneed, Joe McGlone, Cliff Sanders and Steve Dobbs.
