ETHEL HAMM

Ethel L. Peavler Hamm. of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010. She was the daughter of the late A.G. And Rosie Lee Peavler and the wife of Willard Hamm.

Survivors other than her husband include her daughter, Karen Hamm; two sisters, Shirley Knickerbocker and Brenda Carpenter both of Mercer County.

She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Wayne.

There was no visitation or funeral service. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hal’s Haven, 2108 Wells Landing Road, Danville, KY 40422.

The Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home in Harrodsburg in charge of arrangements.

JONNETTA LEAR

Mrs. Jonnetta N. Lear, 77, wife of John E. “Pat” Lear, of Burgin, died Monday, May 24, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Feb. 7, 1933 in Garrard County she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Margaret Askins Naylor. She was a 40 year employee of the Farmers Bank in Burgin, where she served as Assistant Vice President. She was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one niece and four great nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Carl McCray officiating. Burial will be in the Burgin Memorial Gardens with Rice Lear, Matthew Todd, Tyler Williamson, Roy Lee Sanders, Granville Sherrow, Rueben Naylor, Curtis Bailey and William Lee Hayslett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Donna Hayslett, Judy Royalty, David and Dottie Sims, Bob and Jane Williams, Bob and Mary Cecil Thompson, Mrs. Dean Shearer’s Sunday School Class.

Visitation 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the Burgin Baptist Church, P.O. Box 266, Burgin, KY 40310

WILLIAM McCROSKY

William Donald McCrosky, 64, widower of Anita Hale McCrosky, died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at his home in Lebanon.

Born Sept. 13, 1945 in Louisville, he was the son of the late Thompson and Beatrice (Black) McCrosky. He was retired President and CEO of Peoples Bank Of Lebanon, having spent thirty eight years in the banking business in Central and Eastern Kentucky. He was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, a U. K. Fellow, member of the Scoville Society, The Lexington Club, Kentucky Board of Auctioneers and former director of the Bankers Bank of Kentucky.

Survivors include two sons, Matthew Thompson (Renee) McCrosky of Lebanon, Thomas Clay McCrosky of Versailles; three sisters, Kathryn (Hugh) Peavler of Richmond, Jean Wiley of Lexington, Jo Ann Winston of Versailles; one brother, Nelson Cleo (Joyce) Sanders of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and special friend, Julia Cowgill of Lexington.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and William Newton McCrosky.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 26 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rev. Ken Klemme.

Pallbearers are Terry Tatum, Jimmy Thompson, John Manning, John Clark, Ed Purdom, Charles Beach, and C. K. Stacy.

Visitation Wednesday, May 26 from 1-4 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be sent to U. K. College of Agriculture or Hosparus Of Central Kentucky, 105 Diecks Ave., Elizabethtown, KY 42701.

DOROTHY PERKINS

Dorothy S. “Granny” Perkins, 85, of Versailles, a retired child care provider and owner of Ridgewood Day Care Center for over 20 years, died Tuesday, May 25 at her home.

Born in Atlanta, GA, she was a daughter of the late Walton McCoy and Mary Josephine Sanders Sauls, and was the widow of Thomas H. Perkins.

Mrs. Perkins was a member of St. Johns’ Episcopal Church, the Woodford Co. Woman’s Club, the Woodford Co. Garden Club, the Friendly Homemakers, and the Friendship Club, also known as the former Woodford Memorial Hospital auxiliary.

Survivors include three daughters, Carol S. (Russell) Foley of Salvisa, Joyce Perkins of Versailles, Shirley (David) Price of Richmond, a son, Leroy J. Perkins of Versailles, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be 6 p.m. Friday, May 28 at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. David Brannen officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Woodford Co. Senior Citizens Center or to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

BRENDA SALLEE

Brenda Carolyn Devine Sallee, 65, wife of Bobby Gene Sallee died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at the University Of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born Nov. 6, 1944 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Ella Devine. She was a homemaker and a nurse’s aide at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital and with McDowell Home Health. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: one son Brent (Patty) Sallee of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Bobbi Dawn (Keith) Rightmyer of Mercer County; one sister, Virginia (Glenn) Reynolds of Mercer County and one brother, Curtis (Adelaide) Devine of Virginia; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Amy Carter Sallee

Funeral services were conducted 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 26 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Ethan Sallee, Nelson Storie, Matt Storie, Bill Spears, Larry Reed and Keith Rightmyer serving as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the Galilean Home Ministries, Inc., 712 South Fork Church Road, Liberty, KY 42539

GEORGE BUCHANAN

George Weber Buchanan, 73, Harrodsburg, husband of Sue Isham Buchanan, died Sunday, May 29, 2010 at his home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late George Walker and Louella Mae (Trisler) Buchanan. He was a retired farmer and trucker, U.S. Army veteran, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church where he served as deacon. He had also served on the Selective Service Board, Farm Bureau Board, and was a Constitution Square Dancer.

Survivors other than his wife include: one daughter, Sherry Sue (Steve) Horn, Harrodsburg; two sons, George Perry (Rebecca) Buchanan and Cecil Edward Buchanan, both of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Margaret (McKinley Jr.) Anness and Janet (Jerry) Thacker, both of Harrodsburg, Nancy (Harvey) Baker, Lawrenceburg; one brother, William Irvin Buchanan, Harrrodsburg; two sisters-in-law, Wanda (Wallace) Lester and Anita Ransdell; one brother-in-law, Arthur B. (Betty) Isham; one Aunt, Louise Dean; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Derek Baker officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery with military rites.

Pallbearers were: George Brett, Brandon Thomas, Jonathon Edward Buchanan, John Paul Bailey, Austin Steven and Logan Lydell Horn. Honorary bearers were: Amanda Kay Bailey, Amanda Buchanan, Tonya Buchanan, Carolyn Bishop and Katie Sueanne Buchanan.

Memorials are suggested to Mt. Pleasant Church or Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.

ROBERT GRUBB III

Robert Lee Grubb, III, 31, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Cecil County, MD, passed away May 27, 2010 at University of Louisville Hospital.

Born in Wilmington, DE on June 23, 1978, Bobby was the son of Robert L. Grubb, Jr. and Helene Wright Grubb.

He was a talented carpenter and guitar player. Bobby loved the outdoors and spent his leisure time camping and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by: his children Robert Lee Grubb, IV and Sophia Rae Grubb of Harrington, DE; their mother Christina Steele; his maternal grandmother Coral T. Wright of Belcamp, MD: and paternal grandparents Robert L. Grubb, Sr. of Elkton and Ruth Oakes of Bear, DE.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Orville L. Wright.

A service to honor Bobby's life will be held at Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 N. DuPont Pkwy, New Castle, DE on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 11 a.m.

Friends and family may call at R. T. Foard & Gee Funeral Home, 259 East Main St., Elkton, MD 21921 on Friday, June 4 from 6-8 p.m. or at the chapel on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the cemetery.

Charitable contributions in Bobby's memory may be made to the Robert and Sophia Grubb Education Fund c/o the funeral home.

BOBBY GRUBBS

Boyle inmate dies from hanging

LOUISVILLE — A Burgin man who attempted to hang himself in the Boyle County Detention Center May 18 died due to his injuries on May 27, according to the Louisville Coroner’s Office.

Capt. Phil Yates of the jail said Bobby Grubbs, 31, used a bed sheet affixed to a heat vent in a “detox cell” to hang himself. Grubbs hung himself one day after being lodged in the jail on charges of theft, trespassing and possession of marijuana.

Guards found Grubbs unresponsive and administered CPR. He was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to the University of Louisville Medical Center.

Grubbs was listed in critical condition on May 22. A Louisville Coroner’s Office spokeswoman confirmed Grubbs was declared dead at the hospital at 11:10 a.m. on May 27. Grubbs’ death was caused by his hanging, the spokeswoman said.

ELIZABETH PINKSTON

Elizabeth Gaynelle Pinkston, 89, Harrodsburg, wife of W. T. Pinkston, died Saturday, May 28, 2010 at her home.

Born Jan. 5, 1921 in Cornishville, she was the daughter of the late Hobert and Myrtle Britton Gardner. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, where she was a choir member for some 25 years and Juniors Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was a former member of the Cornishville Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist, and was a graduate of Cornishville High School and attended the University of Kentucky.

Survivors other than her husband include: two daughters, Gayla (Steve) March of Alachua, FL, and Sherra (Bill) Hardy of Harrodsburg; one son, David Pinkston of Alachua, FL; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a sister, Gene Wilham.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 2, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Wayne Spivey and W. O. Wilham. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Michael Taylor, Tim Taylor, Jim Taylor, Patrick Hardy, Craig Hardy and William J. Hardy, III.

CLARENCE QUINN

Clarence “Buster” Quinn, 71, of Stanford, formerly of Lancaster, died Friday May 28, 2010.

He was the son of the late William Cecil and Dora Harris Quinn.

He was a siding and guttering contractor, and a member of Gilberts Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Lille Quinn; four sons, Gilbert Hager, A .J. Quinn, Glenn Matthew Quinn and Clarence “Buster” Quinn Jr.; three daughters, Julie Johnston, Sherry Schwarz and Dodie Foley; two brothers, Jimmy and William Cecil Quinn; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday, May 30, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Lancaster. Burial was in Burgin Cemetery.

ANNA REED

Anna C. Reed, 70, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at her home.

Born Oct. 14, 1939 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late J. B. and Ruby (Payne) Smithey. She was a retired Corning Glass employee and was a member of the Bohon Church of Christ.

Survivors include: two sons, Field M. “Jack” (Rita) Reed and Thomas C. (Kim) Reed, both of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Jeannette Milburn of Burgin, Betty Jo Sanders of Harrodsburg and Billie Sue Shirley of Mississippi; two cousins, Ruth (Jackie) Claycomb of Harrodsburg, and Dell Meachem of FL; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Thursday, June 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Julius Hovan officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are James Milburn, Jackie Claycomb, Lee Sanders, Marty Milburn, Seth Pittman, and Justin Reed. Honorary bearers are Brittany and Thomas Reed, Brody and Jamie Pittman, and Carissa and Carey Milburn.

Visitation Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice.

JOSEPH SMITH JR.

Joseph Smith Jr., 70, of Frankfort, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, Harrodsburg, following an illness.

A native of Franklin County, he was born, July 24, 1939, the son of the late Joseph Roud Smith Sr. and Annawill Winter Smith.

He was an employee of Corning Glass Inc. He was a US Navy Vietnam veteran.

Mr. Smith is survived by: his wife, Lorna Fay Christensen Smith; one son, Wesley R. Smith, Frankfort; two daughters, Courtney R. Smith, Gainesville, GA and Virginia C. Evans, Bagdad, KY; one brother, Arthur Gordon Smith, Frankfort; two grandchildren, Maddlyn Rose Smith, Frankfort, William J. McCuddy, Gainesville, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, Nicholasville May 28, with Rev. Billy Perkins officiating. Burial followed in the cemetery.

Pallbearers were Arthur Smith, John T. Evans, Jason Hulker, James Smith, Arthur Smith Jr. and Joseph Smith.

Flowers are welcome or contributions in honor of Mr. Smith may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22781, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.

Arrangements were under the direction of Harrod Brothers Funeral Home, Frankfort.
