LIZZIE VANDIVER
Lizzie Lee Jenkins Vandiver, 84, of Harrodsburg, widow of James H. Vandiver, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born October 15, 1925 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Haddie Elizabeth Jenkins.
She was a retired seamstress from Cricketeer and Interpreter at Shakertown, she was also a member of the Dry Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughters, Judy Griffin, and Betty (Donnie) Releford; one son, James Lee "Punkin" (Karen) Vandiver all of Harrodsburg; two sisters: Emily Patterson and Lucy Voorhies, also of Harrodsburg; one brother, Leonard Jenkins of Florence; give grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 4, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Donnie Releford. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bradley Vandiver, Bobby Vandiver, Lee Releford, Dona Boliard, Bryan Boliard, Andrew Griffin, Austin Griffin and Brett Lanham.
Honorary Bearers will be the great-grandchildren, Men of Dry Branch Baptist Church and Carl VanArsdall.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 3, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
Memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, Diabetes. Association. or the Dry Branch Baptist Church.
KATHRYN WOODY
Kathryn Woody, 85, of Liberty, died Monday May 24, 2010 in Harrodsburg.
Born May 29, 1924, in Adair County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Marie Christie Brockman.
She was a homemaker and a member of Sanders Chapel Separate Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Genevee Ware of Columbia and Joan Wethington of Louisville; a brother, Goble Brockman of Cincinnati; and several grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, May 27, at the McKinney-Brown Funeral Home in Liberty. Burial was in Hiter Cemetery.
VIRGINIA BAILEY
Virginia Taylor Bailey, 80, of Lexington, widow of Elvin Larue Bailey died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late John Melvin and Bessie Mae Cornish Taylor.
She was a graduate of Western High School, member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by: two sons, Timothy John (Suzanne Boorman) Bailey and Mark Elvin Bailey; two grandchildren, Shani Samantha Bailey, and Diya Marie Bailey, all of Lexington; special first cousin, Ronald Taylor, Lawrenceburg.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 8, at the Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Johnny Perry officiating. Burial was in Springhill Cemetery
in Harrodsburg.

Casketbearers were Ronald Taylor, Brad Taylor, Roger Goodlett, Carl McGee, Michael Goodlett and Tony Bailey.
VELMA DARNELL
Velma Hoskins Darnell, 91, of Lawrenceburg, widow of J.C. Darnell, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Sherman and Addie Drury Hoskins.
She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, and a homemaker.
She is survived by: one son, Danny (Alma) Darnell, Bloomfield; two brothers, Clellan Hoskins, Lawrenceburg, and Garland (Corrina) Hoskins, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Nellan (Stewart) Catlett, Louisville, and Faye Stratton, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, Christy (Wayne) Burke and Danette (Kevin) Warford, all of Lawrenceburg; three great-grandchildren, Daniel (Brittany) Burke, Paul Cody Burke, and Brittany Warford, all of Lawrenceburg; great-great-grandson, Carson Daniel Burke, Lawrenceburg; caregivers Tina and Charles Buffin.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Tensie Drury, and Geneva Terrell and two brothers, Clinton Hoskins, and Wilmer Hoskins.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, June 7, at the Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg, with Bro. Kenneth Shouse officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Daniel Burke, Paul Burke, Ray Hoskins, Ralph Terrell, Steve Bowen, Mark Drury, Jimmy Bowen and Dean Catlett.
Honorary bearers were Brittany Warford, Jackie Bowen and Gerald Hoskins.
HAROLD DAVENPORT
Harold Jefferson Davenport, 80, husband of Phyllis Jean Popplewell Kidd Davenport, died Friday, June 4, 2010, at Charleston Health Care Center.
Born August 10, 1929, in Lincoln County, he was the son of Frank and Earsie Jane Nolan Davenport.
He was the owner and retired from Davenport Motor Parts in Danville. Harold was a member of First Baptist Church and a member and spokesman for Gideons International. He was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: two sons, Gary Davenport of Danville and Kevin (Carmen) Davenport of Washington , D.C..; three stepchildren, Susan (Eddie) Arnold of Danville, Tim (Robin) Kidd of Harrodsburg and Ginny (Tom) Robinson of Frankfort; one brother, Kenneth (Audrey) Davenport of Danville; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Davenport of IN; a brother-in-law, Quincie Blevins of Danville; and three grandchildren, Austin, Shawn and Chris Davenport.
Harold was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Marvin Davenport, and a sister, Betty Blevins.
The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, June 8, at the Stith Funeral Home, Danville, with Rev. Tim Mathis officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were George Coldiron, Jackie Warren, Bill Leonard, Don Rightmyer, Rev. Steve James and Earl Pinkston.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Gideons International.

JACOB GUNKEL
Jacob Aaron Gunkel, infant son of Heather Louise Southers and Joshua Aaron Gunkel, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Jacob was born June 3 in Danville.
Survivors in addition to his parents include: one sister, Bailey Floyd of Burgin; his maternal grandparents: Lois (Tilton) Bradshaw of Harrodsburg and Tom Southers of Burgin; his paternal grandparents: Sandra Kay Gunkel and Clifford Dale Gunkel of Burgin; his maternal great-grandmother, Barbara Stinnett of Burgin and his maternal great-grandparents, Bill and Shelia Southers, also of Burgin. He is also survived by several cousins.
A graveside funeral service was conducted Sunday, June 6 at the Spring Hill Cemetery
with Bro. Randy Myers officiating.
Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
MATTIE HAGER
Mattie H. Hager, 74, of Junction City died Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Nov. 25, 1935 in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late David and Kizzie Meade Howell. She was a care giver at the Lexington Christian Health Care Center for several years and was a member of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include: a daughter Tammy (Bobby) Thomas of Junction City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two special nieces; Ella Rose (Estes) Breeding, Ashland and Mildred (Salamon) Castro, California.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, June 9 at Sims Funeral Services with Bro. John David Lane officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. A. J. McCoy, Andy Hill and grandchildren served as pallbearers. .
BECKY JOHN
Dr. Becky Lynn John, 70, formerly of Perry County died Monday, May 31, 2010 at the Wellstar Cobb Hospital in Georgia.
Born Dec. 9, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Ellsworth Homer John and Mildred Sue Murray. She was a 1958 graduate of Harrodsburg High School, an alumnus of Georgetown College and of the University of Louisville Medical School.
She is survived by three children: Thomas Andrew (Brookie) Ray, Rachel Ray (Raymond) Curl and Sue Esther Ray; two sisters, Susan Emma (Franklin) Rumbley and Sherry Pollyanna; one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 5, at the Maggard Brothers Funeral home in Hazard.

VIOLA KELLY
Viola Kelly, 85 of Winchester, widow of Orvil Kelly passed away on Thurs., June 3, 2010 at the Clark Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Menifee Co. on July 13, 1924 to the late Mose and Deley Fields. She was a homemaker, a former Curlee Clothing Co. employee, and a member of the Trinity Church of God.
Survivors include: one daughter, Betty (Bill) Taulbee of Winchester; three grandchildren, Bill (Deanna) Taulbee of Clark Co., Michele (Gary) Harris of Harrodsburg, and Lisa Renee' Puckett of Birmingham, AL; six great grandchildren, Chase Taulbee and Emily Taulbee of Clark Co., Bruce (Cristy) Johnson of Winchester, Gary William Johnson of Winchester, Joshua Puckett of Birmingham, AL, and Matthew Puckett of Clanton, AL; two great-great grandchildren; three sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 5 at, the Scobee Funeral Home by Rev. Billy Keller. Burial was in Winchester Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Taulbee, Gary William Johnson, Bruce Johnson, Gary Harris, Kevin Warner, and Matthew Puckett.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff of the Clark Reg. Med. Center TCU.
VALERIA KIDD
Valeria Mae Kidd, 76, Harrodsburg, widow of Alfred Kidd, died Monday, June 7, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born Jan. 20, 1934 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Lillie Burns Horn. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church and the Haggin Memorial Hospital Auxillary.
Survivors include: a daughter, Angela Mae Kidd and a son, Rex (Sherri) Kidd, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Bertie Gooch Frances of TN and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by five sisters: Mary Lee Trayner, Lois C. Kidd, Laura B. Divine, Alma R. Horn and Florence Kidd, and a brother, John Horn Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Don Reed and Arnold Moon officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Glenn Devine, Clinton Peavler, Richard Smith, Roy Bugg, J. Hugh Phillips, and Donald Logue. Honorary bearers are: Willie B. Horn, and Eddie Sherrow.

ELIZABETH LEWIS
Elizabeth Carol Cornish Lewis, age 68, of Willisburg, passed away at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.
A native of Washington County, she was born on Oct. 11, 1941 to the late Charles R. and Frances Pauline Stine Cornish.
She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Anderson County and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, H. T. Lewis; two daughters, Kathy McElroy of Finley and Pam (Doug) Pinkston of Mackville; two sons, Chris (Fredia) Lewis of Mackville and Todd (Beverly) Lewis of Willisburg; six grandchildren, Matthew Pinkston, Chad Pinkston, Beth McElroy Newton, Jonathan McElroy, Ashley Lewis and Adam Lewis; two step-grandchildren, Patrick Jewell and Blake Jewell; and four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Dickie Cornish of Springfield, Eddie (Pat) Cornish of Mackville and Larry B. (Mary Jane) Cornish of Louisville; and her mother-in-law, Ruby Lewis of Springfield.
Preceding her in death were a son, Terry Glen Lewis in 1965 and a brother, Walter R. Cornish on Sept. 11, 2008.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 1, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Chesser, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery
at Willisburg.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Angie Curtsinger, Katrina Luckett, Jennifer Cheser, Robin Lewis, Angie Cornish, Dianne Thomkin, Angie Hickman, Brandy Cheser, Carita Driscoll, Jonathan Cornish, Jeremy Cornish, Stanley Cornish and Lorie Adams.
Casket bearers were Marty Cornish, Kelly Cornish, Jason Cornish, Donovan Cornish, Frankie Coulter and Tim Coulter.
Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
CHARLES LOWE
Charles P. Lowe, 45, of Danville died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the University of Louisville Hospital.
He was born May 18, 1965, in Huntington, WV.
He was an avid science fiction fan, an avid camper, an artist, and had a love for animals.
Survivors include: his stepson, Charles Thomas Ratliff (Ann) of Harrodsburg; special friends, Charity Anderson of Bedford, IN, and Paula Myers of Paris; a brother, Raymond Lowe of Paris; and many friends.
A private service will be conducted at a later date.
Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford is in charge of arrangements.
