LARRY GOVER

Larry Gover, 54, of Junction City, husband of the late Elizabeth Ann Harrison Gover, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010 at his residence. Born Nov. 22, 1955 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Wesley B. and Gladys Clarkson Gover, II. He had worked for 10 years as a Security Guard at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and had also served for 20 years as an Animal Control Officer for the City of Danville.

Survivors include: two step-children, one half-brother Raymond Phillips of Hustonville and one brother, Olen Joe Gover of Junction City; two sisters, Mary Ellen Phillips of Junction City and Wendy (Elby) Smith of Crab Orchard; three step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother Wesley Bruce Gover, III.

Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dale Denton officiating. He was buried in Hustonville Cemetery with Ben Smith, Raymond Reed, Michael Hill, and Elby Smith serving as Pallbearers.

RUBY HENSON

Ruby Mosley Frisby Henson, 77, of Lexington, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 at the Bluegrass Care and Rehabilitation Center in Lexington. Born Jan. 13, 1933 in Breathitt County, she was the daughter of the late Pleasant and Arizona Halcomb Mosley. She was a retired LPN from Good Samaritan Hospital after 20 years of service and was a former Secretary for Mercer County Senior Citizens. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

She is survived by her special friends Gene and Linda Traugott of Lexington, and was preceded in death by her first husband Chester Frisby, her second husband Bill Henson, and her sister Velma Mason.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at the Bluegrass Memorial Gardens with Neil Myers and Gene Traugott officiating. No visitation will be held.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BARBARA MCCALL

Barbara Lee McCall, 74, of Frankfort, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010 at the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington. She was the wife of Roy H. McCall, Jr., and the daughter of the late Ira and Addie Huff McIntosh. She was born Sept. 15, 1936 in Buckhorn, was a 1954 graduate of Buckhorn High School in Perry County, attended Berea College, retired from the Franklin County Health Department and was a member of the Buck Run Baptist Church.

Besides her husband, survivors include her brother, Wilson Deaton of Fairborn, Ohio; a son, Greg (Tammy) McCall, Frankfort; two daughters, Lisa Gaile (Jeff) Wiard of Frankfort and Laura Anne (Brent) Drury of Gainesville, Georgia; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at Buck Run Baptist Church with Dr. Hershel York officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at her home at 511 Kickapoo Trail in Frankfort and Friday at Buck Run Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until noon.

Expressions of sympathy can be made through donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Buck Run Baptist Church building fund.

SUE MORRIS

Sue Carol Logdon Morris, born Oct 25, 1947, died Oct 28, 2010 after a strong fight with cancer.

She was the wife of 43 years to Glenn Hunter Morris of Lexington.

Sue was a member of Hill-N-Dale Christian Church but attended Ashland Avenue Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents John L. Logdon SR and Ethel Louise Kelley Logdon and one brother, William M. Logdon.

Sue is survived by: her husband Glenn Morris and children, Bradley Hunter (Jessica) Morris, Ashley Carol (Andrew) Safie and Kristin Leigh (Adam) Cable; and five granddaughters, who always made her heart melt, Grace and Lucy Morris, Kaitlyn Cable and Mackenzie and Hannah Safie, all of Lexington. Sue is also survived by: brothers, John (Shirley) Logdon II, Harrodsburg, Charles Stan (Karen) Logdon, Versailles; sisters, Mary Louise (John) Baston, Sandra K (Roger) Holland and Ella Mae Logdon, all of Lexington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by brother-in-law Doug (Jane) Morris, Greenville, SC and sister-in-law Freeda (Doug) Louthan, The Villages, FL.

Pallbearers will be John Baston, Roger Holland Jr, Ryan Holland, Scott Logdon, Brian Morris and Justin Steinberg.

Milward – Southland, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.

BIRDIA POE

Birdia (Birdie) Mae Poe, age 90, widow of James Oscar Poe, a resident of the Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation formerly of Burgin, died Friday Oct. 29, 2010 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Aug. 31, 1920 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late William Frank and Lucy Clark Washington . She was self-employed and a member of the Little Zion Baptist Church where she formerly taught Sunday School, was Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer and sang in the church choir for a number of years. She was also active in the Mercer County Senior Citizens, a member of Haggin Hospital Pink Ladies and was a den mother for Burgin Cub Scout Club # 175.

Survivors include: one daughter, Margie K. Brothers, Burgin; two grandsons, Richard (Charlisa) Allen Brothers, Danville and Derrick Nicholas Brothers, Burgin; one great-grandchild, three special companions and a host of friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by a brother Lunsford Buford Washington and a sister Susie Bell Washington .

Services were conducted Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Little Zion Baptist Church by Dr. Phillip A. Yates. Burial was in Robinson Roe Cemetery in Burgin.

Pallbearers were: C. L. Bartleson, Jim Dunn, Leon Montgomery, Larry Gayton, Gary Mays, and Alvin White . Honorary bearers were: Elizabeth Heckman, Jo Ann Mays, Charles Penix, Leon Gooch, Anna Catherine Taylor, and Gary Walker.

Sims Funeral services in Harrodsburg were in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Little Zion Baptist Church Building Fund. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.simsfuneralservices.com

RUTH VANARSDALL

Ruth Ann Noe Van Arsdall, 51, of Danville, wife of Victor Van Arsdall, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010.

Born in Danville on February 7, 1959, she is the daughter of Lillie Readnour Noe of Danville and the late Charles Milton Noe.

Ruth Ann was a sign maker at Admart International. She earned her high school diploma from Lincoln Co. High School. Ruth Ann was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church where she was a preschool Sunday School teacher for many years. She enjoyed scrapbooking and shopping at Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. Above all else, she loved her family, was a devoted daughter, a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a dedicated Christian.

In addition to her mother and her husband, she is survived by: a son, Lance Van Arsdall of Danville; a daughter, Teela Van Arsdall of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Danny (Cissy) Noe of Casey Co. and David Noe of Danville; three sisters, Brenda (Stanley) Shepperson of Hustonville, Judy (Joe) Ratliff of Gravel Switch and Joy Derringer of Danville; and three grandchildren, Raegan Dunn, Isaiah Van Arsdall and Logan Van Arsdall. She was always supported by her three special friends, Tonya Todd, Katrina Salyers and Alice Carpenter.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 5, at the Gethsemane Baptist Church with Rev. Steve James officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Billy Van Arsdall, Jerry Martin, Hershel McKinley, Rob Raines, Ronnie Byrd, Curtis Williams and Glenn Williams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Carey and Deacons of Gethsemane Baptist Church.

Visitation will be at the Gethsemane Baptist Church after 4 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials are suggested to the Helping Hands Ministry or the Gethsemane Baptist Church Building Fund. Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BEATRICE VANCE

Beatrice Watts Vance, 102, widow of Hugh Lewis Vance, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care. Born July 22, 1908 in Perryville, she was the daughter of the late James T. and Gillie Huff Watts. She attended Harrodsburg High School, was a homemaker, a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and was also a member of the Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta for 50 years.

Survivors include one daughter: Dr. Marilyn McGaughey of Atlanta, GA.; two grandchildren: John Thomas (Carolyn) McGaughey, III of Athens, GA and Melissa (Hewitt) Ward Harned of Murrells Inlet, SC.; two step-grandchildren: John S. Ward, III of Idaho and Marie Ward of Illinois, and three step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Mrs. Virginia Ward, her son-in-law John S. Ward, Jr., five brothers: Emery, James, John, Tilford and Reid Watts and six sisters: Zerilda Watts Lester, Lillie Watts Leonard, Gillie Watts Carpenter, Faye Watts Harmon, Marie Watts Jordan and Margie Watts Cox.

Services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg.

Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to the American Heart Association and/or the American Cancer Society.

DANIELLE COMBS

Danielle Lynn Combs, 23, of Danville, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010 at the UK Chandler Medical Center. Born Feb. 8, 1987 in Danville, she was a daughter of Darrell L. Combs of Harrodsburg and the late Teresa Harmon. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her father, Darrell (Kim Gorham) Combs of Harrodsburg; sons, Keith Austin Combs of Crab Orchard and Allen Michael Combs of Danville; maternal grandparents, Patsy Cochran of Junction City and David Moss of Danville; six aunts, three uncles, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, William and Zelma Combs, and several aunts and uncles.

An Appreciation of Life Service was held Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010 at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Calia officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Michael Cochran, Chris Vickery, Jerry Holt, Chip, Brent and Eddie Combs. Honorary Pallbearer was Keith Combs.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home to help offset funeral expenses.

KATHLEEN DENNIS

Kathleen Estes Dennis, 57, of Owenton, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at the Owenton Care and Rehab Center.

She was born in Louisville to Dixie Arvin Estes, of Winchester, and the late Fred Estes. She was a former employee of Florida Tile and Union Underwear.

Other than her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Jenny (Dennis) Bryant, Frankfort; two sons, Jeremy (Monica) Hopper, and Chris (Tammi) Hopper, of Harrodsburg; five sisters, Marie (Bobby) Doss, Geraldine O’Nan, of Frankfort, Lenore (Kevin) Goodlett, Sheila (Tom) Stratton, of Lawrenceburg, and Kim (Tim) Temple, Shelby County; two brothers, Jimmy (Jean) Estes, Ohio, Johnny Estes, Frankfort and 12 grandchildren.

Other than her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Freddie Ronald and Gene Carroll Estes.

Services were Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial followed in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Christopher Hopper, Keith Doss, Jeremy Dane Hopper, Brandon Doss, Jamie Estes, Eric Hopper, Jeff O’Nan, and Jerry O’Nan.

TEDDY DIVINE

Teddy Lynn Divine, 78, of Harrodsburg, passed away at his home Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010. He was formally of Perryville.

Born January 29, 1932, in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Ted and Zella Best Divine.

Teddy was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church and a farmer. He worked in road construction for many years. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. Teddy graduated in 1950 from Perryville High School, where he was a talented athlete.

Teddy is survived by: two daughters, Ann Lynn (Rick) Downey and Lisa (Parrish) Denny; five grandchildren, Eric (Kim) Downey, Amy (Wayne) VonLinger and Olivia, Ellery and McClain Denny; and two great-grandchildren, Jared and Abby Downey.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dottie Jean Divine, and a great-granddaughter, Z’Anne VonLinger.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, at Carpenters Cemetery in Mercer County by Rev. Keith Katterheinrich.

Visiting hours were Tuesday at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville.

Pallbearers were Johnny Dean, Parrish Denny, Eric Downey, Rick Downey, Brian Smith and Wayne VonLinger.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to the Carpenters Cemetery Fund, c/o Antioch United Methodist Women, c/o Jenny Gibson, 2785 Battlefield Road, Harrodsburg, KY, 40330.

LESLIE DURR

Leslie S. Durr, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at his home.

He was the son of the late George and Cordelia Claunch Durr. He was a retired teacher for the Mercer County School system and a member of the Campbellsville Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was also a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Mercer Masonic Lodge # 777 A & FM.

Survivors include: one brother, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery. A Masonic service was conducted Monday, Nov. 8.

CHARLES MOONEY

Charles W. “Bill” Mooney, 76, died Nov. 1, 2010 in Edmond, OK. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Mooney of Mercer County.

He was retired from the United States Army after serving 20 years.

He is survived by two children, Evelyn Hall and Dan Mooney along with five grandchildren, all of Oklahoma. Other survivors include: one brother, Gilbert Mooney of Lexington; three sisters, Joan Miller of MS, Patsy Griffin of Lexington and Jenean Phillips of Mercer County.

He was buried with military Rites next to his wife, Jackie, on Nov. 3, 2010 in Edmond, OK.

EDWARD MUSIC

Edward Franklin Music, 63, of Danville , died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born in Norton , Virginia on March 7, 1947, he was the son of the late Audry Lee Riddle and Harold Edward Music.

He was a graduate of Lynnview High School, Kingsport, TN. He earned his BS Degree in Geography and his Masters in City Management from East Tennessee State University. He completed the courses and thesis requirements in the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served with the command that retrieved the Gemini spacecraft when they landed. He served as the assistant city manager in Clifton Forge, VA; and as city manager in Norris, TN, Danville and Harrodsburg.

He was an adjunct faculty instructor at National College in Danville, where he taught business management, government, economics, and geography. Music was also a member of the Kentucky Historical Society and the International Society of Genetic Genealogists. He was of the Protestant faith, studied world religions and anthrogenealogy.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Kay Coontz Music; three daughters, Stacy Elizabeth Coontz of Danville, Heather Ren (Steve) Barnes, Kingsport, TN and Christy Leanne (Benjamin) Campbell of Bristol, TN; a brother, Harold Douglas (Carol) Music of Jonesboro, TN, a grandson and three nephews.

A Life Appreciation Service was held Wednesday, Nov. 10 at the Stith Funeral Home, Junction City. Honorary Pallbearers were Lonnie Campbell, Jack Springate, Ernie Kelty, Rodney Harlow, Annabelle Girard, Charles Knox, and John Caywood. military rites were provided by the U.S. Navy and American Legion Post # 18, Stanford.

HAZEL NORRIS

Hazel Robinson Norris, 97, Harrodsburg, widow of Henry Norris, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010 at her home.

Born July 17, 1913 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Harve and Martha Long Robinson. She was a homemaker, devoted mother and grandmother and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter: Janice N. Yeast; grandsons: Louis (Barb) Yeast and Eric (Kim) Yeast; great-grandchildren: Norris, Andrew, Ridge, Rob and Lyndell Yeast.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Spring Hill Cemetery and were presided over by Dr. Robert DeFoor and the Rev. Wayne Spivey.

Pallbearers were: Louis Yeast, Eric Yeast, Norris Yeast, Andrew Yeast, Ridge Yeast, Rob Yeast, Lyndell Yeast, Milward Dedman, Maurice Long, Willie B. Horn, Ann Evans, Donna R. Holiday and Mark Hurst.
