MARY PLACILLA

Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Minor Placilla, 95, of OH, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Bethany Lutheran Village in Centerville, OH.

Born May 25, 1915, in Bradfordsville, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Tommie Beard Minor and the widow of Edwin F. Placilla.

Libby made sure she lived her life to the fullest. She was an artist and horse trainer, she rode motorcycles, and traveled cross country in her RV. She visited all of the states, including Hawaii and Alaska, and 25 foreign countries. Her first job at age 16 was secretary for a local attorney. She went on to work for the government in the civil service department of the Navy in New York.

When her husband became ill and was treated at the VA hospital in Lexington, Libby settled in Harrodsburg. When she could no longer live alone, she moved to Bethany to be near her sister. She continued to paint as long as her health allowed.

She is survived by: one sister, Elsie Frances Burge; two nieces, Ruth Ann Sweet of Danville and Melody Hauck of Franklin; and three nephews, David Minor, Richard Minor and William Burge, all of Dayton, OH.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Minor and Jack Minor and a sister, Georgia Case.

There will be a memorial gathering in Kentucky at a later date. Friends will be informed.

Memorials may be made to Graceworks Lutheran Services, Benevolent Care Fund, 6441 Far Hills Ave., Centerville, OH, 5459.

Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CONNIE RILEY

Connie Harrison Riley, 71, died on December 16, 2010 in Durango, CO, of complications related to Parkinson's disease.

He was born in Mackville, Ky., in 1939.

He owned and operated the Farmer's Supply Company on Ballard Street in Springfield for more than 20 years.

Connie is survived by three children and six grandchildren. His daughter, Jenny, resides in Houston, Texas , with her husband and three children. His son, Jeff, resides in Washington , D.C., with his partner and one child. His daughter, Kim, resides in San Diego, Cal., with her husband and two children.

He is also survived by four brothers, Kenneth, Brent, and Bob, who all reside in Mackville, and Joe, who resides in Louisville. His sister Mary Gail Warner resides in Harrodsburg.

He was preceded in death by his father J B Riley, his mother Jewell Noel Riley, and his granddaughter Berley Jo Riley.

In lieu of flowers or other memorials, the family asks that donations be made to his deceased granddaughter's memorial fund at www.BerleyJoRileyFund.com. Information on making donations by credit card or check are on the Web site.

His children will always remember him for his wonderful Kentucky boy country charm, humor, and gentlemen kindness.

CHARLOTTE SEEFELDT

Charlotte Seefeldt, 69, of Stanford, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010, in Danville.

She was born March 14, 1941, in Harrodsburg, to the late John William Vinyard and Mary Vinyard Phillips.

She attended the Stanford Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Club.

Survivors include: three brothers, William Harold Vinyard of Mercer County, David Vinyard of Washington County and Roger Vinyard of Mercer County; one sister, Linda Himes of Boyle County; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Seefeldt; and her son, Steve Burton.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at the Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford.

TALMADGE SHEWMAKER

Talmadge Glenn “Tuck” Shewmaker, 71, of Parksville, died Sunday December 19, 2010 in Lexington. He was the husband of Wanda Engle Shewmaker.

Born September 3, 1939, in Boyle County, he was a son of the late Prentice and Irene Hayes Shewmaker.

Tuck was a retired engineer for Norfolk Southern Railroad, retiring in April 2001 after many years of service. He was a member of Mitchellsburg United Methodist Church and American Legion Post No. 18. He also was a veteran, having served with the United States Air Force.

Tuck’s main goal in life was to make people laugh. Laughter was a big part of who he was, his many jokes and stories were sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

In addition to his wife Wanda, survivors include: three children, Suzetta Lynch of Danville, John (Cortney) Shewmaker of Danville and Tammye Shewmaker of Parksville; a brother, Prentice (Linda) Shewmaker of Danville; a sister, Betty Cummins of Harrodsburg; and five grandchildren, Devon Shewmaker, Kelley Lynch, Jordon, Joseph and Samantha Shewmaker.

A celebration of Tuck’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 23, at the Wilder Funeral Home by Chris Brummett and Doug Thacker, with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. military rites will be performed by American Legion Post No. 18.

Active pallbearers will be Ed Glenn, Frank Reynolds, Bob Dragon, Richard Shaw, David Roysdon and David Phelps.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tuck’s grandchildren, Virgil Preston, Abe Coulter and Kenny Carey.

Visiting hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to a favorite charity.

PAULINE TAPSCOTT

Pauline Faye Ethington Tapscott, 66, of Lawrenceburg died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2010 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of George “Buster” Tapscott. She was born April 21, 1944 in Woodford County, daughter of the late Dorothy Canter and James Edward Ethington.

She formerly worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at Danville Center for Health & Rehabilitation and was a member of Glensboro Baptist Church.

She is survived by her fiancé Billy Gene Skaggs, Jr., two daughters, Phyllis Reed and Tammy Reed of Lawrenceburg, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a non-adopted son Scott Koontz, a sister-in-law Phyllis Ethington, and a brother-in-law Dwayne Devers.

Also preceding her in death were a sister Onie Mae Devers and a brother John Harrison Ethington.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Glenn Corn officiating. Burial followed in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Tyler Ballard, Don Wells, Martin Harley, Scott Koontz, Mike and David Ethington. Honorary bearer was Kenneth Robert Cox.

DONALD CURTSINGER

Donald Eugene Curtsinger, 66, of Glenns Creek Road, Willisburg, passed away at 6 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at his home.

A native of Washington County, he was born on Aug. 8, 1944 to the late Richard Case “R. C.” and Beulah Mae Hardin Curtsinger.

He was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church on Chaplin Road at Willisburg and was a farmer.

Survivors include four brothers, Billy (Freda) Curtsinger, Vernon Curtsinger and Rickie (Rose Ann) Curtsinger, all of Willisburg and Joe (Vickie) Curtsinger of Campbellsville; four sisters, Frances “Sis” Milburn of Willisburg, Patricia Barnes of Harrodsburg, Wanda Springate and Lois (Lonnie) Willis of Campbellsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was a brother, Richard Case “Buddy” Curtsinger Jr. on February 6, 2000.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 27 at the Carey & Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. J. W. Hatfield, pastor of the Willisburg Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.

Serving as pallbearers were Timmy Curtsinger, Larry Curtsinger, Randy Curtsinger, Bryan Springate, Donnie Baker and Bill Baker.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

JOHN DACCI

John Edward “Bud” Dacci, 54, husband of Maryann Bishop Dacci, died Tuesday, Dec 21, 2010.

Born in Lexington, he was the son of John and Marjorie Tuttle Dacci of Harrodsburg. A heating and air technician and co-owner of Dacci Air Conditioning and Heating, He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by his siblings, Sue (Eddie) Thornton, Lexington, Jim (Pam) Dacci, Lancaster, Jane (Brad) Sparks, IL and Steve (Janie) Dacci, Lexington; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:30 a.m., today (Thursday) at the Milward Funeral Home in Lexington.

Honorary pallbearers are Pat Hukill, Phil Hukill, Mark Hukill, Mike Hukill, Wes Thornton, Brian Link, Jeff Clark and Ryan Sarlls.

Memorials may be made to the Lexington Humane Society.

SALLY DYRCZ

Sally Anne Dyrcz, widow of Walter A. Dyrcz, died Saturday, Dec 25, 2010.

She was born on July 16, 1924 in Rose Hill. She was a graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing, class of 1946. She enlisted in the Frontier Nursing Service of Hyden, performing nurses’ duties and midwife services on horseback in Eastern Kentucky. She was a member of St. Peters’ Catholic Church in Lexington.

She is survived by her son, Walter Barry Dyrcz and her daughter, Elizabeth Ann Spicer. She also leaves loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. today (Thursday) at Milward Funeral Home-Southland. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Rd., Lexington, KY 40502 or St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 153 Barr St., Lexington, KY 40507.

GORDON EDINGTON

Gordon Wayne Edington, 62, died Friday, December 24, 2010 at Bluegrass Community Hospital in Versailles.

He was the son of the late Carl Spencer and Katherine Lucille Norton Edington.

He retired from Lexmark after 27 years and was a Farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, Great Meadows Angus Association, Anderson County Cattlemen Association, Mercer County Cattlemen Association, and Registered Angus Association of America. He was a 1966 graduate of Western High School.

He is survived by: his wife, Rita Peach Edington, of Lawrenceburg; one daughter, Lisa Dawn Edington, Salvisa; two step-sons, Bobby R. Fields, Jr., Salvisa, Herman T. Fields, Lawrenceburg; three sisters, Emma (Mark) Bradshaw, Danville, Nancy (Tommy) Fowler, Lawrenceburg, Irene (Scotty) Sams, Frankfort; grandson, Zachary T. Fields, Lawrenceburg, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 29, at the Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Roy Temple, Jr. officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hosparus of the Bluegrass in Danville.

Casketbearers were Joe McGaughey, John Toppass, Dale Flygstad, Jr., Jason Sparrow, John Harvey, William McKee, Chris Russell and Josh Washington .

Honorary bearers were Joseph Sea, Bob Wilson, Ed Ruggles, Jr., John Litkenhus, Jerry Puckett, Tommy Yankey and David Burge.

JANET GILLILAND

Janet Gilliland, 62, Harrodsburg, wife of Mickey Gilliland, died Thursday, December 23, 2010 at her home.

Born in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Davis Hyte and Louise (Jones) Ashford. She was a Haggin Hospital employee and a homemaker. She was a member of the Benton Baptist Church, where she was treasurer for 20 years, former organist and Sunday School teacher.

Survivors other than her husband include: three daughters: Tracie Jo Gilliland of Harrodsburg, Meredith Elise Sizemore of Perryville, Blythe Lee Gayheart of Versailles; two sisters: Jo Ellen (Don) Horn of Harrodsburg and Yvonne (Steven) Fox of Shelbyville; and a brother: James H. (Ann) Ashford of Harrodsburg and three granddaughters.

She was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Ann Logue.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 27 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Tim Gray. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Greg Logue, Chad Horn, Derrick Horn, Steven Fox, Andrew Ashford and Ethan Ashford.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Benton Baptist Church or Gideon Bible Fund.
