BARBARA MUNTZ

Barbara Hope Flynn Muntz, 68, Frankfort, died Sunday, January 2, 2011, after a battle with cancer.

A native of Frankfort, she was the daughter of the late Walter S. “Pete” and Mary Lucy Housechild Flynn.

She was retired from Bell South.

She was a member of VFW Auxiliary Post 4075, Bosom Buddies and First Christian Church.

She is survived by: one daughter, Jennifer Privett, Salvisa; three sisters, Mary F. “Sissy” Garland (Jim) and Patsy Sue McChesney, Frankfort and Judy K. Webb (Jack), Louisville; four brothers, Gene Dudley Flynn, Frankfort, Norman Franklin Flynn (Barbara), Nicholasville, Jerry D. Flynn, Virginia Beach, VA, and Michael Wayne Flynn, Harrison, IN.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Muntz; a sister, Betty Ann Flynn; two brothers, James W. “Pete” Flynn and Hardin Kenneth Flynn.

Services were held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor funeral home in Frankfort. Dr. John Opsata officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Corey Lewis, Michael Lewis, James Lewis, Mark McChesney, David McChesney and Eugene McClain.

Honorary bearers were Paul Yocum, Jerry Ward and Kevin Denicola.

JOSEPH PAYTON

Joseph C. Payton, 66, Salvisa, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011. Born in Washington County, Dec. 17, 1944, he was the son of Beulah F. Lake and the late John William Payton. He was a retired mechanic and a Baptist.

Survivors other than his mother include: two brothers, Donald (Lang) Payton, FL; Roger (Judy) Payton, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Norma (Norman) Ryan, Harrodsburg; Marilyn Corley, Bullitt County.

Graveside services will be held today, Thursday, Jan. 6 at Bethlehem Cemetery in Washington County, officiated by Nelson Reynolds.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

STELLA QUINN

Stella Stagner Quinn, 73, widow of Robert Lee Quinn, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born September 14, 1937 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Freeman and Eloise Harrison Stagner.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She enjoyed cooking, collecting cook books and china dolls, watching University of Kentucky basketball, going to yard sales, and being surrounded by the ones she loved.

Survivors include two sons: John William Quinn of Harrodsburg and Cecil Quinn of FL. One daughter Janet (Danny) Lister of Harrodsburg, three sisters: Mollie (Pete) Whittney of GA, Rosa (Robert) Clausen of FL, and Rita (Joe) Hamilton of Harrodsburg. Nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by one son Robert Lee Quinn, Jr., and one brother John Freeman Stagner.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 2, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Logue officiating. Burial was in Burgin Memorial Gardens. Thomas Stewart, Carter Lister, Joe Hamilton, Robert Clausen, Pat Lear, Anthony Redford, Travis Quinn, and Paul Wilham served as pallbearers.

CONNIE RILEY

Connie Harrison Riley, 71, died Dec. 16, 2010 in Durango CO of complications related to Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Mackville and served in the Army. He owned and operated Farmers Supply in Springfield for several years before settling out west in Ignacio, CO in the early 90’s. He was an avid hiker, an ice cream aficionado, and loved woodworking and restoring old cars.

Riley is survived by three children: Jenny (Ryan) Schebler, Houston, TX; Jeff (Dan) Riley, Washington , DC; and Kim (Mike) Woodruff, San Diego, CA. He is also survived by four brothers: Kenneth (Billie Ann) Riley, Brent (Burbona) Riley, Bob (Sarah Jo)Riley, all of Mackville; Joe (Sherry) Riley of Louisville; a sister, Mary Gail Warner or Harrodsburg; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father JB Riley, his mother Jewell Noel Riley, and his granddaughter Berley Jo Riley.

A memorial ice cream social and hike are planned for summer 2011.

DEBBIE SADLER

Debbie Ann Sadler, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece and friend, succumbed to endometrial cancer at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington on Thursday, December 30. She was 38.

Debbie was born in Harrodsburg, Ky., on august 4, 1972 to John (Jr.) and Mary Evelyn Steele Sadler. Growing up in Rose Hill, Debbie spent most of her time reading books from the Bookmobile and playing with her brother, Justin, her sister, Stacy, her cousin, Patrice, and neighborhood friends Ray Caton and Shawna and Alan Harlow.

After graduating high school, Debbie briefly attended the University of Kentucky before taking a position as a nanny. Her new job led her to enroll in the Nanny Program at Sullivan College. After graduating from the program, Debbie took a position with a family in Key West, Florida. A year later, she took a new position with the Buonopane family in northern New Jersey. She stayed with the Buonopanes for more than 10 years, loving Anthony, Joe, Carlo and Maria as though they were her own children and sharing with them her loves of astronomy, travel, history, movies, books and music.

While living with the Buonopanes, Debbie developed a large circle of friends from all over the globe – Hallie, Mary Jo, Fiona and Emma were especially dear to her her. She spent her spare time taking classes at a local college, visiting with friends and traveling the world. Deb made numerous visits to England, Ireland, and several islands in the Caribbean. She visited Belize with her sister, Stacy, and took her parents and her nephew, Cameron, to England.

Debbie was a staunch Democrat and a lifelong learner. In 2007, she moved back to Kentucky to complete her education. She enrolled in the Honors Program at Kentucky State University, taking classes that emphasized political science. Despite her diagnosis, Deb continued taking classes throughout two surgeries and several rounds of chemotherapy. She planned to complete her bachelor’s degree in the fall of 2011, and enter law school in 2012.

While she never married and did not have children of her own, Debbie had family and friends that loved her very much. She is survived by her parents, John and Mary Sadler, her sister, Stacy (Phillip) Bush, her brother, Justin (Tamara) Sadler, and her nephews, Cameron, Christian and Shane Sadler, and Job and Henry Bush.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, January 3, 2011, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Her officiating. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery followed with Phillip Bush, Timmy Rogers, Shane Sallee, Randy Steele, Ronnie Steele and Stephen Terhune serving as pallbearers.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr, Lexington, KY 40504.

DORIS SIMS

Doris Dickerson Sims, 83, of Elizabethtown, and formerly Liberty, IN died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Kensington Manor Care Center.

She was a Liberty native, born December 15, 1927 to Nathan and Lucy Byrley Crane and graduated from Short High School in Liberty. She had been employed in Danville, as a secretary at the Centenary United Methodist Church and had worked as a legal secretary for several years in the Judge’s office. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Harrodsburg.

She is survived by three children: Connie (Ricky) Plummer, Paducah; Joseph S. (Debra) Dickerson III; Nathan F. (Phyllis) Dickerson, all of Elizabethtown; and eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Joseph S. Dickerson, Jr.; her second husband: J.C. Sims; two sisters: Thelma Nicholson and Leona Smeaton; and a brother: Donald Crane.

Graveside funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 4, at West Point Cemetery.

MARIE TACKETT

Marie Tackett, 73, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born March 12, 1937 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Laura Elizabeth Carey Devine.

She was a retired inspector for Corning Glass in Harrodsburg and was a member of the Dry Branch Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter: Teresa (Donnie) Butler of Harrodsburg; four brothers: William B., Omer Leon, Jimmy Bruce, and Carlos Lynn Devine all of Harrodsburg; one sister Betty Jean Peavler of Harrodsburg, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by one brother R. C. Devine, one sister Dorothy Releford, and one son Roger Dale Tackett.

Funeral services are today, Thursday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Derek Baker officiating.

Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery with Ronnie Devine, Mike Sinkhorn, Ronnie Peavler, George Allen Devine, Bruce Devine, Arvid Tackett, Hobert Proctor, and Charlie Peel serving as active pallbearers. Robert Peavler will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visitation was 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

ANNE THACKER

Anne Clark Thacker, 76, of Mt. Washington , died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011.

Born Jan. 17, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Claude Wilson and Leona Molly Christman Clark. She was a graduate of the University of Louisville and was a retired director for the Kentucky Employment Service. She was a member of Shepherdsville Christian Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Kay Christman; two sons, Isaac “Ike” M. Thacker IV and Eric C. (Olivia) Thacker and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday), Jan. 6, at 12 p.m. at Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks with interment at Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be until 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to UNICEF.

STUART WARNER

Stuart M. Warner, 80, Harrodsburg, widower of Thelma Frances Sallee Warner, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 1, 1930 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Thomas V. and Carrie Lula Nichols Warner. He served during the Korean War in the Air Force, was a retired farmer and a member of the Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons: Joe M. (Debbie) Warner and Johnny Warner and one sister: Annell Claunch all of Harrodsburg. Grandchildren: Jamie Lynn Reynolds, Jennifer Warner, Joey Ward, Johni Leigh Warner, Aaron Warner and 13 great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by siblings: Elizabeth Davis, Evelyn Ball, Agnes Adkinson, Virginia Baker, Everett, Joe, and Brite Warner.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Phil Williams, and Aaron Warner. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery, with military rites.

Pallbearers were: Jamie Reynolds, Devin Reynolds, Jonathan Ward, Jeremy Patterson, Chris Watts and Aaron Warner. Honorary bearers were Aaron Gray, Gene Royalty, Llewellin Peavler, Donald Sexton, Robert Todd Warner, Lee Prather and Huntley Royalty.

GEORGE YANKEY

George Harold Yankee, 85, of Louisville, died Friday, December 31, 2010.

He was an educator in Jefferson, Bullitt and Fayette counties, a member of Jeffersontown Baptist Church, past president of Jeffersontown Optimist Club, a Kentucky Colonel, a 2009 inductee into the Mackville High School Hall of Fame and a 2010 inductee into the Jeffersontown High School Alumni Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Oakes; daughter, Pamela Cheek; son, Harold D. (Krista) Yankey; grandchildren, Brian (Stephanie) and Amy Cheek and Forrest and Harper Yankey; sister, Mary Frances Moore; and brothers, Billy and Tom Yankey.

His funeral was held Monday, January 3, at the Fern Creek Funeral Home, 5406 Bardstown Road with burial in Highland Memory Gardens.

FRANKLIN COLE

Franklin D. Cole, 78, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at his residence.

Born Oct. 8, 1932 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Jessie and Grace Morris Cole.

He was a retired Dietary Supervisor with the V. A. Hospital-Leestown Road in Lexington and a former employee of the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

He served as a deacon of the Goshen Baptist Church in Anderson County, was a member of the St. John’s Masonic Lodge #125 in Salvisa and the Oleika Shrine Temple.

He is survived by three sisters; Polly C. Freeman of Lawrenceburg, Maxine Hahn of Bardstown, and Imogene (Al) Drury of Lexington; two brothers, Rollin M. (Jeanette) Cole of Lawrenceburg and Jasper Cole of Newark, DE; sister-in-law Gertrude Cole of Lexington, brother-in-law Ed Broughton of Bardstown and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Pearl Leathers, Rose Stratton and Henrietta Broughton; three brothers, Jesse Allen Cole, Charles Thomas “C. T.” Cole and Kenneth Cole.

Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home with Bro. Fred Knickerbocker and Bro. Mark Webb officiating. Burial followed in Kirkwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill, David, Donnie, Bruce, Danny, and Gary Cole. Honorary bearers were the deacons of Goshen Baptist Church.

Memorials are suggested to the Goshen Baptist Church, 1544 Hickory Grove Rd., Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.
