JOYCE EARLYWINE

Joyce Ann Searcy Earlywine, age 78, wife of William P. (Billy) Earlywine of Salvisa, died Monday, January 10, 2011, at her home.

She was born in Lawrenceburg to the late Harry Lee and Georgia Peyton Searcy. She was a member of New Life Christian Fellowship Church and Hamilton Chapter Order of Eastern Star # 293.

Other then her husband, she is survived by: a daughter, Brenda Sadler, Salvisa; a sister, Hana Parsons, Raytown, MO.; a brother, Harry Lee Searcy Jr., Frankfort; two grandsons; three great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Vernon Huber officiating. Burial will follow in Lawrenceburg Cemetery. An Eastern Star service was held Wednesday evening.

Casketbearers are Jimmy Earlywine, Dane Wiley, Timmy Earlywine, John Hume, Jim Wells, Bobby Flora, and Robert Toll. Honorary Bearers are Mary Ann Wiley and Laura Wile Memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice.

SUSAN FRANCIS

Susan Leona Gullett Francis, 58, of Harrodsburg, widow of Wendell Rickey Francis, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born, July 17, 1952 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary Bell Reed Gullett. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter: Krystal Francis-Blackburn of Harrodsburg, one grandchild: Elysha Blackburn, one daughter-in-law: Davida Blackburn, four brothers: Troy Francis, Bobby (Jean), Donnie (Shirleen) and Jerry (Margaret) Gullett all of Harrodsburg, a special cousin: Patty Hall and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Melvin, Jay and Verlin Gullett.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Logue officiating. Burial was in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery with Corey Gullett, Mark Francis, Kevin Gullett, Mike Gullett, James Gullett, Robert Gullett, Eric Gullett and Victor Francis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Gullett, Anthony Wheeler, Hubert Hall, Johnny Brim, Hugh Raider and Glenn Francis.

MARTHA GREER

Martha Ellen Merriman Greer, 84, widow of Amos E. Greer, died January 8, 2011.

She was born March 14, 1926 in Mercer County to the late George Robert Merriman and Flossie Marie Rowe Underwood.

Martha was a homemaker and member of Mt. Freedom Baptist Church.

Survivors are: seven children, James Earl “Jimmy” (Ingrid) Greer, Wilma (Roger) Noe, Sharon (Bill) Brown, Peggy (Danny) Callico, Gary (Rhonda) Greer, all of Nicholasville, Lois (Steve) Riley and Connie Greer, of Wilmore; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Patricia (Wayne) Cheek, Doris Adams, Bertha Merriman, all of Wilmore; two brothers, Greenberry Merriman of Wilmore and Charles Merriman of Georgetown.

Services were held Wednesday, January 12, at the Betts & West Funeral Home in Nicholasville with Rev. David Duggan officiating. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

Bearers were James Earl, Gary and Kevin Greer, Jeffrey Brown, Mike Antrobus and Ricky Poor.

Honorary Bearers were Charles Bowman, Arza Byrd, Merrell Greer and Dave Wilson.

ORA GRUBBS

Ora Lee Grubbs, 76, wife of Harold L. Grubbs of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 9, 1935 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Della Peavler.

She had worked at Cricketeer and the Harrodsburg Health Care Center and was a member of the Berea Christian Church.

Survivors besides her husband include one daughter, Debra Jean (Danny) Humber of Harrodsburg; three sons, Keith Grubbs of Danville, Michael Lee Grubbs of Harrodsburg, and Timothy Lynn (Jenny) Grubbs of Springfield; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon Marie Grubbs; two brothers George and Dwight Peavler and one sister, Katherine Holt.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with John Hockersmith, III and Donnie Releford officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

BERNADINE MOUNTS

Bernadine Hall Mounts, 76, died Saturday, January 08, 2011 at her residence.

She was born June 3, 1934 in Lenore, West Virginia daughter of the late Emma White and Grover Cleveland Hall.

She retired following 24 years of service as a retirement services supervisor with the KY Teacher’s Retirement. She received a B.A. Degree from Midway College and was a member of the Salvisa Christian Church.

Mrs. Mounts is survived by: her husband, William A. Mounts; two daughters, Laura A.(Ken) Reifschlager of Houston, TX and Mary Alice Churchman of Lawrenceburg; six grandchildren, Shani, Lori and Reio Austin Reifschlager, Daniel Lance, Sarah Marie, and Elizabeth Ann Churchman; two sisters Lucy Deskins and Ruby Shutt, and a brother Ralph Hall.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Hall and Alice Adams.

Funeral service were conducted Monday, January 10, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with William A. Mounts presiding.

A private burial was held Tuesday in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601.

JUANITA RAY

Juanita McIlvoy Ray, age 84, of Whitehall Road, Willisburg, passed away at 10:05 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital in Harrodsburg.

A native of Washington County, she was born on March 23, 1926 to the late William A. and Velera Switzer McIlvoy.

She was a member of the Willisburg Baptist Church, was a homemaker and kitchen manager at various restaurants.

Survivors include: three daughters, Linda Horton of Willisburg, Carol (Jesse) Staley of Goshen and Debra (David) Coulter of Willisburg; one son, Bill (Jane) Curtsinger of Jeffersonville, IN; one stepson, Danny (Sally) Ray of Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois (Darrell) Grigsby of Springfield and Mary Tomblin of Mt. Washington ; and two brothers, Virgil (Catherine) McIlvoy of Burgin and James T. (Phyllis) McIlvoy of Bardstown.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Irvin Martin Ray, Sr. on November 26,2008, a son, Irvin Martin Ray Jr. on November 22, 2010; two sisters, Doris Ratliff and Vivian Wise; and four brothers, Joe, Charles, William Jr. and Morris McIlvoy.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 8, at the Carey & Son Funeral Home, in Springfield with Rev. Terry McIlvoy, pastor of the Rockbridge Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. J. W. Hatfield, pastor of the Willisburg Baptist Church.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Tess Valentine, Tina Waters and Brandon Valentine.

Casket bearers were Chris Staley, Jonathan Day, Chad Curtsinger, Tony Coslow, Damon Waters and Josh Waters.

Carey & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

NANCY ROBINSON

Nancy Mildred Robinson, 82, of Salvisa, mother of Mildred (Charles) Burkhead died Monday, January 11, 2011 at her daughter’s residence.

Born September 27, 1928, Nancy was the daughter of the late James and Hester Humes Robinson.

She was a retired employee of Universal Fasteners and a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by one sister: Lyda Robinson, two brothers: James “Red” Robinson of Harrodsburg and Rayford Robinson of Louisville, two grandchildren: Deborah Bowyer of Lexington and Carrie Tucker of Salvisa, four great-grandchildren: Kyle and Noel Bowyer and Levi and Matthew Tucker and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Baker and a brother, William Robinson.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Daren Bowyer, Wesley Tucker, Charles Guthrie, John Guthrie, Roy Robinson and Todd Robinson serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13 and after 7:00 a.m. Friday, January 14, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

ROY BARGER

Reverend Roy Lee Barger, 83, husband of Mary Pauline Barger of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 4, 1927 in Saul, he was the son of the late John D. and Laura Spurlock Barger.

He was a minister of the Church of God for sixty years and a thirty year employee of the William Powell Manufacturing Co. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Church of God. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a United States Army Reservist and a member of the Kentucky National Guard. He served in World War II where he received the Victory Medal and the WW II Occupation Medal; he also received a Presidential Citation from President Truman.

Survivors in addition to his wife are, three sons: James (Ollie) Barger of NC, Stephen Barger of IN and Tim (Cynthia) Barger of Burgin; one daughter: Sandra (Henry) Wells of Washington Co.; two brothers: John David Barger of Hyden and Robert (Nancy) Barger of AL; four sisters: Belva Tryee of AL, Beulah Henderenson of AL, Bertha Campbell of Loveland, OH and Neva Baker of AL; nineteen grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Rev. Barger was preceded in death by a son: Perry Barger, a daughter: Linda Scott and three brothers: Ray S., Troy and J.D. Barger.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at Harrodsburg Church of God with Bro. Glenn Doughtery officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

CLYDE CLAUNCH

Clyde Claunch, 72, of Mercer County, husband of Betty Ann Collier Claunch, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 at his residence. Born Aug. 16, 1938, he was the son of the late James R. and Beulah Bugg Claunch. He had worked at Kentucky River Distillery, Dixie Cup, and had been a builder. He was a member of Benton Baptist Church.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons: Randall Scott (Pam Parks) Claunch of Lexington and James Douglas Claunch of Harrodsburg; one daughter Belva Lynn Claunch of Indiana; an aunt and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011 at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Randall Scott Claunch, James Douglas Claunch, Betty Ann Claunch, Troy Collier, John Watts, Chris Watts and Michael Watts.

POLLY CRAIG

Polly Loueen Craig, 79, of Danville, died Friday January 14, 2011 at Charleston Health Care Center. She was the wife of Kenneth Craig.

Born December 6, 1931, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Helen Smith Fletcher.

She was a housewife and a member of Mitchellsburg Baptist Church where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. Polly was a dedicated Christian and loved singing for the Lord.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, Kenneth, she is survived by: three children, Teresa (Lanny) Coulter of Junction City, Vicki (Jackie) Antle of Danville, and Kenneth (Ann) Craig of Versailles; a sister, Gladys Wilson of OH; three brothers, Bill (Phyllis) Fletcher of OH, Larry Fletcher of OH and Clyde Fletcher of IN; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Pam Wilson.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 20, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville with Gary Douglas officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers were J. W. Lamb, Carl Leffew, Dennis Cox, Hunter Phillips, Tim Coulter, and John and Stuart McDermott.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to The American Cancer Society.

MELVIN CUMMINS

Melvin Lewis Cummins, 68, of Harrodsburg, husband of Montana M. Wayne Cummins, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at the Veterans Medical Center, Lexington.

Born Jan. 18, 1942 in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Milton Lewis and Mary Elizabeth (Drury) Cummins.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietname War. He was a retired employee of Lee’s Famous Recipe.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Sara (Barry) Poole of Cario, GA and two sons: William Daniel (Rebecca) Cummins of Wauseon, OH and Donald (Tammie) Underwood Jr. of Pleasant Hill, TN; three brothers: Ernest S. (Gladys) Cummins of Elizabethtown, James H. (Frances) Cummins of Danville and Roger D. (Beth) Cummins of Wauseon, OH; five grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 16 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Paul Readnour. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Perryville.

Pallbearers were: Donald Underwood, Barry Poole, Allen Poole, Doug Robinson, Jim Underwood and Jackie Claycomb. Honorary bearers were: Mike Tewmey, Chris Cummins, Billy Rogers, Benny Peyton and Scott Freeman.
