SAM DOUGLAS

Sam “Dink” Douglas, 71, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011.

Born Oct. 6, 1939 in Casey County, he was the son of the late Samuel and Mackie Delk Douglas. He was a retired small engine repairman.

He is survived by one son: Sammy Douglas; four daughters: Betty Jane Douglas, Bonnie Douglas, Loretta Douglas and Mary Jean Douglas; four sisters: Nancy Proctor of Harrodsburg, Anna Mae Wainscott of FL, Marie Huffman and Jewel Lancaster both of Lancaster; several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Nancy Douglas and a brother: Jack Douglas.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with David Smith officiating. Burial was in the McKinney Cemetery with J. E. Routin, Steve Harp, Jason Routin, James Doolin, Lamont Linton, J. E. Routin Sr. and Ronnie Doolin serving as pallbearers.

JAMES EDWARDS

James Walter Edwards, 72, of Harrodsburg, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2011.

Born March 17, 1938 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Aubrey LaFayette and Hazel Honaker Edwards. He was a self-employed auto body mechanic.

He is survived by three sons: James Ricky (Kimberly Ann) Edwards, Donald Wayne Edwards and Danny Ray (Cynthia Bernice) Edwards all of Harrodsburg; one daughter: Debra Fay (Homer, Jr.) White of Harrodsburg; two brothers: Carl Edwards and Dewey Ronald Edwards both of Frankfort; one sister: Maxine Goode of Eminence; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one grandson: Brandon Scott Edwards and two brothers: Randall and Jackson Edwards.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2011 at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Mike Herring, Jeremiah Edwards, Joseph Edwards, Jason Daily, Scotty Baker, Steve Watts, and Daniel Edwards serving as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

MOORINE HARRISON

Moorine Harrison, 86, of Salvisa, widow of Norman Harrison, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at her residence.

Born Apr. 19, 1924 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Mamie Preston Jackson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Abundant Life Worship Center.

She is survived by four sons: Ronnie (Beth) Harrison of Lexington, Lonnie (Toni) Harrison of Bloomfield, IN, Rickey Harrison of AZ and Douglas (Cindy) Harrison of Wilmington, OH; two daughters: Bonnie (Marvin) Robinson of Harrodsburg and Sharon (Danny) Broce of Salvisa; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a special caregiver: Mary Beth Berryman.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, Jan. 22, 2011 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Barry Harmon officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with Jimmy Simpson, Mark Broce, Jamie Broce, Lonnie Harrison Jr., Eli Harrison, Trey McCallie and Rory Macguire serving as pallbearers.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to one’s favorite charity.

CHARLES LISTER

Charles David Lister, 71, of Chimney Rock Road in Mercer County, died Friday, January 21, 2011, at his residence.

Born April 24, 1939, in Danville, he was a son of the late Marion and Addie Coffman Lister.

He retired after 25 years from Kirk and Blum Manufacturing Company. Charles enjoyed boating, carpentry, woodworking, and most of all spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren.

Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Gordon Lister; daughters, Diana Bracy and Angela Jo Miles; sons, David and Robert (Sarah) Lister; sister, Joanne (Rolan) Coulter; and grandchildren, Ian Bracy, Chyanne Shannon, and Thomas Wyatt Lister.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 23, at the Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Preston officiating. Burial will follow in Parksville Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kenneth and Bill Gordon, Bryan Greenwell, Sr., Bryan Greenwell, Jr., and Daniel Greenwell, Bill Brewer, Ian Bracy and Jeffrey Coulter.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice.

BILLIE PATTERSON

Billie Jean Patterson, 81, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011 at Signature Healthcare in Marietta, GA.

Born Jan. 18, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of Andrew G. Patterson and Eula Chiltan. She was a former employee of the Department of Agriculture in Memphis, TN and retired from Tifton Seed Lab in Georgia.

She is survived by three sisters: Doris Patterson Voyles, Laura B. Tatum and Helen Tracy; 11 nieces and nephews: Garnett Tatum, Andrew P. Tatum, Carol Cannon, Rebecca Turner, Lee Ann Jensen, Kay Tracy, Mary Jane Draper, James H. Voyles III, Robert Patterson Voyles, Leslie Voyles Nigh and Patricia Louise Voyles.

She will be cremated and laid to rest at Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg later this spring.

JANE L. RAFFERTY

Jane L. Rafferty, 90, of Louisville, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at Baptist East Hospital, Louisville.

She was born August 21, 1920 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Creed and Carolyn Taylor. She was a member of Beargrass Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter: Lyn (Bill) Fane Crestwood; a grandson: Drew (Jamie) Sloan; a granddaughter: Lauren Ashley Sloan. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Rafferty.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 24, 2011 at Pearson Funeral Home, Louisville. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be given to Beargrass Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.

NANNIE ROGERS

Nannie Easter Rogers, 82 of Hustonville, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011.

Born April 8, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Joe and Sarah “Lizzie” Hill Rogers.

Survivors include two sons: Joe Lee Rogers of Junction City and Ricky Rogers of Hustonville; one daughter: Norma Coleman Rogers of Harrodsburg; two brothers: Lewis Rogers of Stanford and Raymond Rogers of Kings Mt; four sisters: Frances Jeffries of Stanford, Nancy Lenington of Danville, Emma Lou Asbery of Danville and Daisy Emerson of Stanford; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter: Rose Ann.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Ronnie Dobson. Burial was in Hustonville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jerry Asbery, Junior Lee and grandsons: James Coleman, Jeremy Coleman, William Coleman and Boyd Coleman Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Josh Douglas, Helen Ingram, Sandy Lane and Ladena Yocum.

ABRAHAM STRATTON JR.

Abraham Lincoln Stratton Jr., 69, of Harrodsburg, died January 21, 2011 at his residence.

Born May 11, 1941 in Fayette County to the late Abraham Lincoln Stratton Sr. and Virginia Daily Howard Stratton, he owned and operated a home improvement business and was a member of Ellers Memorial Baptist Church. He enjoyed airplanes, vintage cars and NASCAR racing.

He is survived by a daughter: Jennifer Michelle (Jim) Ramsey of Lexington; two sons: Jonathan Matthew Stratton of Florida and Michael Humes of Junction City; three brothers: Wayne Howard (Donna) Stratton, Drew Pearson (Kathy) Stratton and Warren Dale (Peggy) Stratton all of Harrodsburg; seven sisters: Nancy Ruth Beser of Maryland, Helen Marie Mitchell of Frankfort, Virginia Sue Stratton of Danville, Reva Gayle Arthur, Alice Carolyn Stratton, Priscilla Kay (Travis) Cloyd and Lana Joy (Buddy) Turpin all of Harrodsburg.

In addition to his parents, Stratton was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Lucille Hume; three brothers: George Kenneth Mitchell, Delbert Marshall Stratton and Gary Peyton Stratton; two sisters: Dorothy Stratton and Oneida Stratton.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Joey Wayne Turpin officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Angie Britton, Carolyn Cole, Jack Pearson, Louis Daugherty, Lonnie Campbell, Polie Stratton, Marion Souder and Nellus Estes. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Horn, Kenny Hooper, Gary Stump, Bro. Kenneth Whitehouse, John Markel, Jack Pearson Jr., Dennis Worthington, Tony Pinkston, Donald Wiley, Richard Derrington, Harold Driskell and Mary Lou Monroe.

JAMES VAUGHT

James Robert “Buddy” Vaught, 65, of Persimmon Knob Road, Junction City died Saturday at his residence.

Born February 4, 1945, in Boyle County, he was the son of Thelma Preston Vaught of Junction City and the late Robert Morris Vaught.

Buddy had a milk truck route for many years and then was a fork lift driver at TCI Logistics. He also had worked at Shawnee Farm in Mercer County. Buddy was a natural mechanic and loved to work on tractors, cars and lawnmowers.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by: two brothers, Donald R. Vaught of Hustonville and Charles S. Vaught Sr. of Danville; three sisters, Barbara Ann Coppage of Russell Springs, Carolyn Peppard of Junction City and Laverne Lee Byrd of Lexington; 11 nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and nephews, including Trevor Hammons.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 27, at the Stith Funeral Home in Junction City. Rev. Frank Preston will officiate. Burial will be in McDonald Cemetery on Persimmon Knob Road.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Junction City.

BOBBY BAKER

Bobby Carroll Baker, 64, Burgin, husband of Charlotte Baugh Baker, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born May 18, 1946 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Naomi Byrd Baker. He was a truck driver, painter and a musician.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Tammy Grider of Harrodsburg; a son: Andrew Baker of Burgin; two step-sons: William and Matthew Hendricks of Harrodsburg; a sister: Lois Carney of Willisburg; a brother: Charles Leroy Baker of Louisville; two grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother: Rudolph Baker; and a sister: Wanda Mann.

Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday, Feb. 3, 2010) 2 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Donnie Irvin officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Ron Bradford, Ronald Baugh, Paul Romans, Bo Rasnake, Benny Ross and Jeremy Hicks.

Visitation Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

RUDY BURTON

Rudy Darrell "Buddy" Burton, 63, of Stanford, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at Ephraim McDowell Ft. Logan Hospital.

He was born Tuesday, April 15, 1947 in Stanford to the late Evan Johnson Burton and Goldene Irvin Burton.

He was a former employee for Gulf States in Nicholasville. "Buddy" will be remembered for his love of collecting things, reading Western novels, shopping with his mother, but most importantly, being with his family.

He is survived by his mother, Goldene Burton of Stanford; his brother, Eugene "Sonny" (Beulah) Burton of London; his sisters, Cheryl (Tom) Prewitt of Lancaster and Beverly (Gordon) Woodard of Harrodsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Evan Johnson Burton and his brother, Dale Burton.

An Appreciation of Life service was held Friday, January 28, at the Fox Funeral Home in Stanford by Bro. Don Burton with burial in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Tom Prewitt, Dwayne Naylor, Mike Cooley, Jimmy Burton, Gordon Woodard and Stetson Cooley will serve as Rudy's Pallbearers.
