Tailor Albert Barone filled retirement with active life

When Albert Barone left his job as a tailor for Hyde Park Clothes in Cincinnati, it didn't take him long to find something else to occupy his time.

Mr. Barone went into business with one of his sons, and worked at Tom's TV in Alexandria. Working kept him busy, which is exactly the way he liked it.

''Dad was happy to be busy,'' said his son, Tom Barone, of Alexandria. ''He was always busy, right up to his last day. He and my mother would go out to eat, go grocery shopping and do all kinds of things. The day he died, they'd just driven to Falmouth and back.''

Mr. Barone, 82, of Alexandria, died at 7:41 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas, after suffering a heart attack. He had worked at Hyde Park Clothes until his retirement in 1972, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Following his son Tom's lead, he took up television repair after leaving the clothes shop,

and found other chores to take up his time when there weren't repairs to do.

Mr. Barone didn't have the time for hobbies, his sons said, between remodeling his basement, running errands and doing odd jobs.

''He was kind of a quiet guy, but a great role model,'' said Dan Barone, of Lakeside Park. ''He was well-liked, had alot of friends, and never had an enemy to my knowledge. He was someone to really look up to.''

He was a great dad, too.

''Absolutely the best,'' said Tom. ''He was a good friend and a good dad. He was the kind of dad most people wish they had.''

Other survivors include his wife, Rosemary Harthun Barone, and five grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
