Mark Waguespack Sr.

Loving husband and father

HOUMA - Services for Mark Etienne Waguespack Sr., 78, will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chauvin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in St. Francis de Sales No. 2 cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, which will reopen Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Vacherie and a resident of Houma, Mr. Waguespack died at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000.

Mr. Waguespack was a retired warehouse supervisor for Gulf Oil Corp. and was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Grant Waguespack of Houma; his son, Mark E. Waguespack Jr. of Houma; two daughters, Mrs. Cliff (Claire) Fenton of Houma, and Mrs. Robert (Beth) Simon of New Orleans; three brothers, Arthur and Nelson Waguespack Sr., both of Lafayette, and Nolan Waguespack of Vacherie; one sister, Marie W. Haydel of New Orleans; and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Waguespack was preceded in death by his parents, Fernard and Bertha Schexnayder Waguespack; and three brothers, Alvin, Fernard and Stanley Waguespack.

Chauvin Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.

Leatha T. John

Loving sister

Services for Leatha John, 76, the former Leatha Thomas, will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday at Journet and Bolden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. England Archangel officiating. Interment will be in Mount Zion Baptist cemetery in Petit Anse Friday after a 10 a.m. dismissal from the funeral home.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home, which will reopen Friday at 7:30 a.m.

A native and lifelong resident of Rynella, Mrs. John died at 4:35 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at Azalea Villa Nursing Center following a brief illness.

She is survived by her brother, Arthur Whirls of Rynella.

Mrs. John was preceded in death by her husband, Morris John; her parents, Louis and Selena Thomas; her daughter, Lena Mae Jones; two sisters, Maggie Terry and Alberta Whirls; and her brother, Leonard Whirls.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.

Journet and Bolden Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Clementine C. Johnson

Loving mother and grandmother

JEANERETTE - Services for Clementine "Momma Bay Bay" Johnson, 107, the former Clementine Champion, will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Jerusalem Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur Lee Alexander officiating. Interment will be in Rising Sun cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

A native of St. Martinville and a resident of Jeanerette for 62 years, Mrs. Johnson died at 1:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at Maison Teche Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a member of the Deaconess Board, the Home Mission Society, and the Busy Bee Club, all of First Jerusalem Baptist Church, and the Benevolent Society No. 2.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Johnson Davis; two grandsons, Carol Davis and Sidney Spencer Jr.; two granddaughters, Gloria Taft and Kittie Davis Harrison; her nephew, Howard Champion; six grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 31 great-great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Rosalie Bouhomme Champion; three sisters; and two brothers.

Pallbearers will be Lionel Harris, Carol Davis, Clyde Russell Davis, Anthony Paul Preston, Anthony Stokes and deacons of First Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Taft, Edward Harrison, Ben Eugene Jr., Harold Davis Jr. and Frank Harris Jr.

Alex Lovett Funeral Home of Jeanerette and Mercy Funeral Home of Beaumont, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

Shaun G. Hayden

Helicopter mechanic

ERATH - Services for Shaun Grimes Hayden, 21, were held at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Rev. Wayne Duet officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

A native of Lafayette and a resident of Abbeville, Mr. Hayden died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000.

Mr. Hayden was a T & M Aviation Inc. mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Karla Perry Hayden of Erath; his father, David Clark Hayden of Abbeville; his mother, Laura Spilman Patton Hayden of Gonzales; his daughter, Ivy C. Bares of Abbeville; two sisters, Cara V. and Rachel P. Hayden, both of Abbeville; his grandparents, Joseph and Eleanore Hayden of Wilmore, Ky.; his grandmother, Mary Jane Patton of Lexington, Ky.; three aunts, Sallie Baugh of Lexington, Ky., Catherine Bishop, and her husband, Charles, of Versailles, Ky., and Jo Ellen Meng, and her husband, George, of Lower Marlboro, Md.; his sister-in-law, Jodie Perry of Erath; and his father and mother-in-law, Noah and Pam Perry of Erath.

Mr. Hayden was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Arthur Patton.

Pallbearers were Brock and Roddy Bowen, Jason and Troy Bradley, Robert Hughs and Grant Trahan.

Honorary pallbearers were Ian Ballard, Steven Bishop, Ivey Callahan, and Jay and Vince LeBlanc.

David Funeral Home of Erath was in charge of arrangements.

Douglas R. Foucheaux

BROUSSARD - Services for Douglas Reeves Foucheaux, 65, will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at David Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park cemetery in Lafayette.

Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at the funeral home, which will reopen Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of Youngsville, Mr. Foucheaux died at 6:40 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

David Funeral Home of Broussard is in charge of arrangements.

Newton T. Pharr

Services for Newton Taylor Pharr, 75, will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike McLaurin officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at Evangeline Funeral Home.

A native of Windom Plantation in Burke and a lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Pharr died at 11:32 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at Consolata Nursing Home.

Mr. Pharr was a 1941 graduate of New Iberia High School and then attended Sewanee Military Academy in Sewanee, Tenn.

He entered the military and served in the army during World War II in the European Theatre. Mr. Pharr received an honorable discharge from the army before continuing his education at Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now UL of Lafayette) in pre-law.

He received his LLB degree in law from Tulane University and practiced in New Iberia. Mr. Pharr was a member of the Iberia Parish Bar Association and the Louisiana State Bar Association.

He is survived by his wife, Mazie Mestayer Pharr of New Iberia; four daughters, Ann Pharr Wright, and her husband, Terry, of Little Rock, Ark., Susan Pharr Atchley, and her husband, Clinton, of Arkadelphia, Ark., Rachel Pharr, and her husband, Bernard Kolle, of Alexandria, Va., and Louise Pharr, and her husband, Jan Aasen, of Aberdeen, Scotland; six grandchildren, Leah Wright, Sarah Atchley, Graham and Elise Kolle, and Erik and Thomas Aasen; two sisters, Louise Pharr Howell of Picayune, Miss; and Eunice Pharr Ward of Collinsville, Ala.

Mr. Pharr was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John Newton Pharr and Louise Taylor Pharr.

Pallbearers will be Clinton Atchley, Terry Wright, Guyton Watkins, John Howell, Dr. James Megehee and Matthew Simonton.

DELCAMBRE - Services are pending for Lillie Roy, who died at 3 a.m. today, Feb. 29, 2000, at East Ridge Medical Center in Abbeville following a lengthy illness.

Francis Sapienza Sr.

Loving husband, father, grandfather

Services for Francis Anthony Sapienza Sr., 73, will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Monsignor Guy Lemoine, Rev. Ed Degeyter and Rev. Albert Boumans officiating. Entombment will be in Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum with military graveside services conducted by VFW Post 1982 of New Iberia.

Visitation will be from 4-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Sapienza died at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at his residence.

"Mr. Sap" served as sergeant in the 2nd Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps Reserve, wherein he received a commendation for meritorious service in the performance of his duties as a member of the G-3 Section, Second Marine Division from Sept. 18, 1944, to April 15, 1946. His loyalty and efficiency during the preparation of plans and orders for the Okinawa Campaign, the Iheya-Aguni Landing and the invasion of Japan contributed materially to the smooth functioning of the G-3 Section. During the Okinawa Campaign, Sapienza's outstanding performance of duties, often under extremely adverse conditions, were a constant example to the other men of the section. His exemplary conduct and devotion to duty led him to be designated as chief clerk, in which duty he had displayed unusual ability and leadership. His conduct at all times had been in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

"Mr. Sap" was an active member of the Marine Corps League, Gen. Walter S. McIlhenny Detachment 811, and a member of the VFW Post 1982. He was a former member of the Sugar N' Spice Camping Club and the Creole Gourmets. "Mr. Sap" was employed by Missouri and Pacific Railroad Co. and was the co-owner of Big Boy Drayage Moving Co.

He is survived by his wife, Delta Hulin Sapienza of New Iberia; four sons, Francis A. Sapienza Jr., and his wife, Rhonda, of Carrollton, Texas, Thomas V. Sapienza, and his wife, Tina, Paul R. Sapienza, and his wife, Carla, all of New Iberia, and John S. Sapienza of Lafayette; one daughter, Connie S. Armentor, and her husband, Richard, of New Iberia; 13 grandchildren, Anthony V., Samuel P. and Natalie A. Sapienza, all of Carrollton, Texas, Lauren E., Courtney and Thomas V. Sapienza Jr., Nicholas C., Sarah A. and Mia Frances Sapienza, and Lindsey and Jason Armentor, all of New Iberia, and Kristen R. and Charles D. Sapienza, both of Lafayette; one brother, Joseph R. Sapienza, and his wife, Lloyd, of New Iberia; two godchildren, Mary H. Dawson and Joann D. Majkowski; and one sister, Lillie A. Sapienza of New Iberia.

"Mr. Sap" was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Sarah Rumore Sapienza; and his sister, Nina S. David.

Pallbearers will be Frances A. Sapienza Jr., Thomas V. Sapienza Sr., Paul R. and John S. Sapienza, and Richard G. and Jason P. Armentor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Sapienza, Raymond Hulin, Jim David, Harold Champagne, Dallas Derouen, Gilman Richard, Gerald Migues, Sliman John, Gus Lamperez and Walter Scott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Lafayette, La. 70503, or to ARC Unlimited of New Iberia, 3716 Redwood Drive, New Iberia, La. 70560.

Troy F. Scott

Services for Troy Frank Scott, 82, will begin at 1 p.m. today at Evangeline Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jude Halphen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be until the time of services today at the funeral home.

A native of Pleasant Hill and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Scott died at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Dauterive Hospital.

Mr. Scott was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from Shell Oil Co., having worked at Weeks Island for 20 years.

He is survived by eight sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Kathy, David and Genny, Bobby and Renee, Michael and Peggy, Pat and Lyn, Donald and Donna, Jerry and Jackie, and Perry Scott; two daughters and sons-in-law, Liz and John Munnerlyn, and Judi and Tom LaDousa; two brothers, Homer and Ray Scott; 30 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Louise "Sister" Marin Scott; and his parents, Newton and Mary Strahan Scott.

Pallbearers will be Duane, Seth, Troy and Robert Scott Jr., Jacob Munnerlyn and Jeremy Housley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Barry, Brian, Noah and Nash Scott, and John Lucas and Casey Munnerlyn.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Davis died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at his residence following a brief illness.

Mr. Davis is survived by four sons, James Lee, Danny Boy, Donald Ray and Leroy Davis, all of New Iberia; five daughters, Gwendolyn D. Polk, Brenda D. Johnny, Beverly D. Thibodeaux, Jeanelle D. Henry and Barbara D. Fusilier, all of New Iberia; three brothers, Ervin Davis of Washington, D.C., and Joseph and Calvin Davis Sr., both of New Iberia; seven sisters, Rose D. Williams, Rita Davis, Agnes D. Ford, Dorothy D. Keys, Bessie D. Boudreaux, Gloria Boudreaux and Ruth D. St. Julien, all of New Iberia; 46 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance Davis; his parents, Walter and Octavia Celestine Davis; three sons, Roy, Lloyd and Jerry Davis; one brother, Leroy Davis; and three sisters, Emma and Dora Davis and Thelma Sanders.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends.
