Services for Effie Rouly Bourque, 86, will begin at 2 p.m. today at David Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon George Sikes officiating. Interment will be in Holy Family cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the time of services today at David Funeral Home.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Bourque died at 4:40 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at IHS Heritage North.

Mrs. Bourque worked as a canner for over 30 years at Solieu's Foods which later became Bruce's Foods. She loved her garden, and enjoyed sewing and dancing. She was a lifelong resident of the Coteau area.

She is survived by four sons, Herbert Bourque of Marksville, Joseph Bourque of Port Arthur, Texas, and Paul and John "J.C." Bourque, both of New Iberia; two daughters, Mrs. James (Theresa) Bourque Steel of New Iberia and Mrs. Jack (Mary) Bourque Winn of Lafayette; 22 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edias Bourque; her parents, Oge and Azilda Gary Rouly; one son, Antoine Bourque; three sisters, Jane Rouly, Anne Rouly LeCombe and Willie Reaux; and five brothers, Freddie, Mayo, Orphe, Pheo Rouly and Oge Rouly Jr.

Pallbearers will be Brandon, Chris, Kim, Kit, Tommy and Wayne Bourque, Fidel Fremin and Mitch Steel.

Honorary pallbearers are Grant Bourque, Cory Fremin, and David and Derrick Landry.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Mary A. Darden

Loving wife and mother

FRANKLIN - Services for Mary Aline Darden, 61, will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ibert's Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Hodnett officiating. Interment will be in Chitimacha cemetery in Charenton.

Visitation will be from 2-10 p.m. today at Ibert's Chapel, which will reopen Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of DeRidder and a resident of Charenton, Mrs. Darden died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Huey P. Darden Sr. of Charenton; three sons, Huey Darden Jr., and John P. and Patrick Darden, all of Charenton; four daughters, Mary Ann, Paula, Melissa and Tiffany Darden, all of Charenton; two brothers, Allen Cole and Douglass Doty, both of De Quincy; one sister, Sammie Joe Tucker of Crowley; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Darden was preceded in death by two sons, Billy Wayne and Bobby Ray Darden; one brother, Alvin Cole; and her parents, Samuel and Mamie Perkins Cole.

Pallbearers will be John P. Darden Sr., John Darden Jr., Patrick and Alicide Darden, Kerry "Todd" Martin, Alcide Crochet, James Voisin and Tom Odisho.

Ibert's Mortuary Inc. of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

John J. Suire

LAFAYETTE - Services are pending for John Jessie Suire, 68, who died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery.

Mr. Suire was a native and resident of Lafayette.

BROUSSARD - Services for John Jessie Suire, 68, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at David Funeral Home. Interment will be in Calvary cemetery in Lafayette.

Visitation will be until 10 p.m. today at the funeral home, which will reopen Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Delcambre and a resident of Lafayette, Mr. Suire died at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

Roger Smith

COTEAU - Services are pending for Roger Martin Smith, 39, who died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000 at his residence in Coteau.

Alvin L. Foreman

Services for Alvin Lawrence Foreman, 92, will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Downs officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1982 Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Rynella, a former resident of New Iberia, and a resident of Tallulah, Mr. Foreman died at 6:17 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at a Tallulah hospital.

Mr. Foreman was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and in Normandy and Northern France. He received the European African Middle Eastern Medal, two bronze stars and a good conduct medal. He was employed at Avery Island Salt Mine (International Salt) as a foreman for 44 years until his retirement in 1972. Mr. Foreman was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he was a boy's Sunday school teacher and a lifetime deacon. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 335.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Clay Brinson Foreman of Tallulah; his stepdaughter, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Johnson of Vicksburg, Miss.; two brothers, Julius Foreman of New Iberia, and Carol Foreman of Lake Charles; two sisters, Elva Foreman of New Iberia, and Lela Foreman Morgan of Tallulah; two step-grandchildren, Philip Norman and Craig Allen Johnson; and six step great-grandchildren.

Mr. Foreman was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mary Luehm Forman; two brothers, Jack and Lionel Foreman; and three sisters, Edna and Annie Foreman, and Edma Foreman Derouen.

Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara O. Faulk

LOREAUVILLE - Services for Mrs. Daniel Faulk, 63, the former Barbara Owens, will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Loreauville Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony DiClementi officiating. Interment will be in All Saints cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Tuesday at David Funeral Home.

A native of Ventura County, Calif., and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Faulk died at 10:28 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at her residence.

Mrs. Faulk worked as an LPN at Azalea Villa Nursing Home for many years. She was a private duty nurse until she retired.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel Faulk of New Iberia; her son, Clifford Faulk of California; three brothers, Jerry Owens of Los Angeles, Nev., Lynden Owens of Oxnard, Calif., and Ralph Owens of Alabama; one sister, Sue Owens Deffenbauch of Camarillo, Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Faulk was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff and Mildred Perrson Owens; and two sisters, Joyce Ball and Clydene Sharp.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help defray funeral expenses.

Gladys Wilkes

Beloved granny

STOURBRIDGE, England - Memorial services are pending in England for Mrs. Gladys Wilkes, 83, the former Gladys Holdsworth, who died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Russell Hall Hospital in Stourbridge following a brief illness.

Mrs. Wilkes, the mother of The Daily Iberian Teche Life Editor Jennifer May, was a loving mother and grandmother who lived life to the fullest.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Veronica Ann Astley, and her husband, Robert, of Stourbridge, and Jennifer Elizabeth May, and her husband, Robert, of New Iberia, La.; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Timothy and Joanna Astley, all of Stourbridge, Sarah Wilkes May Schiel, and her husband, Mark, of Lafayette, La., and Robbie May, of New Iberia, La.; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley Louviere and Payton Schiel, both of Lafayette, La.

Mrs. Wilkes was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Wilkes.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas - Services for Mrs. E.J. "Sparkie" Viator, 85, the former Helen Peggy Gonsoulin, will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday at Gramiere-Oberle Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today, from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, and from 8 a.m. until the time of services Sunday at the funeral home.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Groves, Texas, for two months, Mrs. Viator died at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, in Groves, Texas.

She is survived by her son, James Hugh "Bubba" Viator; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Viator was preceded in death by her first husband, Minos J. Viator; her second husband, E.J. "Sparkie" Viator; her daughter, Carole V. Russell; her parents, Toutant U. and Euphemie Girard Gonsoulin; her brother, Hugh A. Gonsoulin; and six sisters, Odette G. Migues, Yvonne G. Fussell, Letteyce G. LeBlanc, Marguerite Gonsoulin, Louise "Zoo" G. Bernard and Lily Mae Gonsoulin.

Loving mother and grandmother

RICHMOND, Calif. - Services are pending for Una LaSalle Broussard, 83, a native of New Iberia and a resident of Richmond, Calif., for the past 19 years, who died at 9:35 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at her residence.

Mrs. Broussard was the daughter of the late Jarvis LaSalle and Irene Delahoussaye LaSalle.

She is survived by one son, Milton "Butch" Broussard of New Iberia; three daughters, Earline L. Perry of Oakland, Calif., Annette B. Venson of Memphis, Tenn., and Evelyn B.

Anderson of Richmond, Calif.; one sister, Mable LaSalle Orsot of New Iberia; two sons-in-law, Dr. James Perry of Oakland, Calif., and Clyde Venson of Memphis, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Armstead Broussard of New Iberia; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Broussard was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Broussard; her parents, Jarvis and Irene Delahoussaye LaSalle; four brothers, Sidney, Louis, Walter and Paul LaSalle; and four sisters, Rhea L. Barras, Lena L. Wiltz, Christine L. St. Julien and Mildred L. Guigneauz.

Harold Romero Sr.

Services for Harold J. Romero Sr., 70, will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jude Halphen officiating. Interment will be in Beau Pre Memorial Park cemetery in Jeanerette.

Visitation will be from 4-11 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Romero died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Mr. Romero owned and operated Romero's Music Store for 52 years. He designed instruments and equipment for Fender and Peavey. He was well known for handcrafting violins and guitars for musicians the world over. While he played numerous instruments, the steel guitar and violin were his passion. Mr. Romero was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.

He is survived by two sons, Ronnie Romero of New Iberia, and Harold J. Romero Jr. of St. Martinville; two daughters, Sharon "J.J." Ray of New Iberia, and Angel Romero Yoon of Biloxi, Miss.; his mother, Anise Viator Romero of New Iberia; his brother, John J. Romero of New Iberia; seven grandchildren; seven nephews; and four nieces.

Mr. Romero was preceded in death by his father, Louis B. Romero; and two brothers, Louis "Bee" and Robert Romero.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie, Buddy, Gerald, Johnny, Mike and Harold J. Romero Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas "Jimmy" Dworaczyk, Ronda Sue and Tena Kay Hargrave, Bill, Carl, David and Diane Kirksey, Dean "Dean-O" Ray and Laquita Joy Smith.

Dennis Crochet

LOREAUVILLE - Services for Dennis Crochet, 88, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Thevis officiating. Music for the ceremony will be provided by Ganon Dooley. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Iberia Parish and a lifelong resident of Loreauville , Mr. Crochet recently moved to IHS of Heritage North in New Iberia, where he died at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000.

Mr. Crochet was a farmer and an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He served on the hospital board in Loreauville many years ago.

He is survived by three sons, Donald Crochet of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nolan Crochet of Loreauville, and Sidney Crochet of Lafayette; one daughter, Mrs. Clevens (Sylvia) Crochet Belaire of Loreauville; three brothers, John and Ernest Crochet Sr., both of Lydia, and Venus J. Crochet of Loreauville; one sister, Anna Mae Crochet Domingue of New Iberia; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Crochet was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Louise Blanchard Crochet; his parents, Alcide and Edmonia Dugas Crochet; one brother, Joseph Crochet; and one sister, Martha Crochet Derise.

Pallbearers will be David and Glen Belaire, and Brent, Donald, Nolan and Sidney Crochet.

Honorary pallbearers will be John, Kenneth, Scott, Steven, Venus J. and Ernest Crochet Sr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200, Lafayette, La. 70501.
