Kate Eugene

Devoted mother, grandmother

JEANERETTE - Services for Ms. Kate (Sister, Bay) Eugene, 67, will be held at 8 p.m. today at the Alex Lovett Funeral Home with Rev. Arthur Alexander officiating. Internment will be at the Rising Sun cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday.

A resident of Houston since 1965 and former 32-year resident of Jeanerette, Ms. Eugene, died at 8:30 a.m. July 31, 2000, at Memorial Herman Southwest Hospital in Houston.

Ms. Eugene accepted Christ at an early age at Barton Chapel Methodist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Ryan of Jeanerette. While residing in Houston, she was a member of Clinton Park Methodist Church, under the leadership of Rev. TA Johnson.

She is survived by two daughters, Theresa Eugene and Glenda Eugene McCalep; one son-in-law, John McCalep Sr.; three grandsons Derrick, Deon and John Jr.; one sister, Alice Eugene; one brother, Martin Eugene; one nephew Paul Eugene, all of Houston; one Aunt, Queenie Eugene of Jeanerette; and a host of relatives and friends.

Ms. Eugene was preceded in death by her father and mother, Paul and Annie Eugene; four aunts, six uncles, and one granddaughter.

Alex Lovett Funeral Home of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.

Opal W. Long

WINNFIELD - Services for Opal W. Long, 95, were held at 10 a.m. today at Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Interment was in the Garden of Memories.

A native of Atlanta, La., a former resident of Winnfield, and a resident of New Iberia for six years, Mrs. Long died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Consolata Nursing Home in New Iberia.

Mrs. Long was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Charles Melvin Long of New Iberia; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Southern Funeral Homes Inc. of Winnfield was in charge of arrangements.

Seth Joseph Touchet

Graveside services for infant Seth Joseph Touchet will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family cemetery with Mr. Ulysse Boudreaux officiating.

A native of New Iberia, Seth died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2000 at a New Orleans hospital.

Seth is survived by his father and mother, Troy A. Touchet and Dawn Owens of New Iberia; two sisters, Summer Rene LeBlanc, who was also his godmother, and Shani Lynn Touchet, both of New Iberia; paternal grandparents, Mary L. Bourque Gonzales and Norman Touchet of New Iberia; maternal grandparents, Donald and Flo Owens and Annette Louviere, all of New Iberia; and godfather, Gloris Dore' Sr. of New Iberia.

Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Pingus T. Jones

ST. MARTINVILLE - Services for Pingus Todd Jones, 24, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at Notre Dame Catholic Church. Interment will be in Queen of Peace cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 7 a.m. until the time of services.

A resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Jones died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

He is survived by his parents, Larry and Deborah S. Jones; two daughters, Brianna Jones of New Iberia, and Chasity Henry of Parks; his brother, Larry Jones Jr. of St. Martinville; his grandmother, Camille Syrie; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Syrie Funeral Home of Lafayette is in charge of arrangements.

Z.L. Taylor

PITTSBURG, Texas - Services for Z.L. Taylor, 77, will begin at 2 p.m. today at First Assembly of God.

Visitation will be held today until the time of services at Erman Smith Funeral Home.

A native of Pine, Texas, and a resident of Pittsburg, Texas, Mr. Taylor died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the East Texas Medical Center after a long period of declining health and medical problems.

Mr. Taylor was born on Sept. 13, 1922, in Pine, Texas. During World War II he served in the Army Air Force as a flight engineer. His working life was in the oilfield. After military service, he worked in oil production in east Texas.

From the late 1950s into the 1970s Mr. Taylor resided in New Iberia and was employed by service companies working inland and in the Gulf of Mexico. He worked internationally in Trinidad in the mid 1970s. Afterwards, he moved to Soldotna, Alaska, and enjoyed his final working years there. He returned to his childhood home in Pittsburg, Texas, for retirement.

Mr. Taylor was a hard-working, loving husband and father who never hesitated to sacrifice for the benefit of his family. He fought hard as his health declined and drew closer to God, as he looked forward to his future home.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Bettye Taylor of Pittsburg, Texas; two sons, Rick Taylor, and his wife, Sandra, of Soldotna, Alaska, and Jody Taylor, and his wife, Fonda, of New Iberia; his brother, Joe Taylor of New Iberia; his sister, Ruth Rutledge of Pittsburg, Texas; and four grandchildren, Zak Logan and Mariel Taylor, both of Soldotna, Alaska, and Chloe and Job Taylor, both of New Iberia.

Erman Smith Funeral Home of Pittsburg, Texas, is in charge of arrangements.

Angelina C. Burton

CARENCRO - Graveside services for Angelina Celeste Burton will begin at 10 a.m. today at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church cemetery with the Rev. Msgr. Charles Mallet officiating.

She died at 2:17 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, in Columbia Women's and Children's Hospital in Lafayette.

Survivors include her parents, John Robert Burton Jr. and Sherie Lee Benoit Burton of Youngsville; paternal grandparents, John R. and Margaret Burton of Erath; maternal grandparents, Lee Roy and Belle Benoit of Carencro; paternal great-grandparents, Howard and Louise Fruge of Shreveport; one brother, John Robert "Jay" Burton III of Lafayette; and one sister, Loula Margaret Burton of Baton Rouge.

She was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents, Paul and Sally Burton; and maternal great-grandparents, Elie and Alida Benoit and Wilson "T-Will" and Celeste Guilbeau.

Eunice T. Vice

YOUNGSVILLE - Services for Mrs. Robley Vice, 82, the former Eunice Touchet, will begin at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church. Entombment will be in St. Anne Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. today until funeral services on Monday, with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home. The funeral home will remain open all night.

A native of Lafayette Parish and resident of Youngsville, Mrs. Vice died at 2:25 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at her residence.

James Desormeaux Sr.

Loving husband, father

Services for James T. "Jim" Desormeaux Sr., 70, will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jude Halphen officiating. Interment will be in Beau Pre Memorial Park cemetery in Jeanerette.

Visitation will be from 3-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home North, Trotter St., which will reopen Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Erath and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Desormeaux died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

Mr. Desormeaux was retired as a lieutenant with the Louisiana State Police. He served as chief criminal deputy with the Iberia Parish Sheriff Department for 12 years. He recently retired as a self-employed insurance agent. He proudly served in the Merchant Marine and the U.S. Army. Mr. Desormeaux was a great storyteller and his greatest pleasure was cooking a "Papa breakfast" for his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Verret Desormeaux of New Iberia; four sons, Barry Desormeaux of Abudhabiuae, Michael "Boo" Desormeaux of Cecilia, Ronnie Desormeaux of Baton Rouge, and Tommy Desormeaux of Lafayette; one daughter, Mrs. Mitchell (Tamie) Lopez of Dallas, Texas; three brothers, Carroll and Adam "Nooksie" Desormeaux Jr., and Bill Desormeaux Sr., all of New Iberia; one sister, Kelly Desormeaux Louviere of New Iberia; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Desormeaux was preceded in death by his parents, Adam Desormeaux Sr. and Adia Vice Desormeaux.

Pallbearers will be Barry, Carroll, Michael "Boo," Ronnie, Tommy, Adam "Nooksie" Jr. and Bill Desormeaux Sr., and Mitchell Lopez.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eric, John, Michael "Mikey" and Ryan Desormeaux, and Brach Lopez.

Theodule Decou

YOUNGSVILLE - Services for Theodule Decou, 93, will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church. Entombment will be in the church mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 1:30-9 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen Thursday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Lafayette Parish and a resident of Youngsville, Mr. Decou died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Maison de Lafayette in Lafayette.

Allen Foco Sr.

JEANERETTE - Services for Allen Peter Foco Sr., 75, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-10 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Boutte and a resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Foco died at 8:35 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Maison Teche Nursing Center.

Arthur Horton

LOREAUVILLE - Services are pending for Arthur Horton, 76, who died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia.

Francis "Sonny" LeBlanc

LAFAYETTE - Services for Francis "Sonny" LeBlanc, 86, will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:30-8 p.m. today with 6 and 7 p.m. rosaries at David Funeral Home in Broussard, which will reopen Wednesday from 7-8:30 a.m.

A native and resident of Lafayette, Mr. LeBlanc died at 8:44 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at his residence.

Gerald J. Oubre

KANAB, Utah - Graveside services for Gerald J. Oubre, 76, will be held Saturday at Kanab City cemetery.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Whittier and La Mirada, Calif., for the past 50 years, Mr. Oubre died at approximately 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, 2000, at the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier, Calif., following an illness.

Mr. Oubre was the son of the late Ovide Oubre and the former Linda Verret, both natives of Iberia Parish. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the 15th AAF as a gunner on a B-24 based in Italy. Following his tour of duty overseas, Mr. Oubre was stationed in Salt Lake City in 1945, where he met and married his future wife, Ora.

He is survived by two sons, James Oubre, and his wife, Ricki, of Henderson, Nev., and Matthew Oubre, and his wife, Linda, of Fullerton, Calif.; four grandchildren, Austin, Nicole and Derick Oubre, and Kristina Ross; and three sisters, Hazel Cestia, Lorraine Jackson, and her husband, Harry, and Linda LeJeune, and her husband, Gil.

Mr. Oubre was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ora Glazier Oubre.

Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab, Utah, is in charge of arrangements.

Myrna M. Rabeaux

Myrna M. Rabeaux, 67, a native and resident of New Iberia, died at 6:58 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at IHS of Heritage South. Her body is being donated to science for the advancement of medical research.

Mrs. Rabeaux was a graduate of Crowley High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

She is survived by two sisters, Alix Giroir of New Iberia, and Margie Roberts of Iowa, La.

Mrs. Rabeaux was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Ella Marie Domingue Rabeaux.

L.J. Touchet

Services are pending for L.J. Touchet, 62, who died at 3:27 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria.

Antoine D. Broussard

BREAUX BRIDGE - Funeral services for Antoine Doria Broussard, 82, will be held today at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Entombment will be in St. Bernard Mausoleum #1.

Visitation will be from 7 a.m. until time of services today at Pellerin Funeral Home.

Mr. Broussard died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at her St. Martinville residence.

Gary J. LeBlanc

BALDWIN - Services for Gary John LeBlanc, 36, will be held at 1 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mitchell Guidry officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, with a noon rosary, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

A native and lifelong resident of Baldwin, Mr. LeBlanc died at 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 13 at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

He is survived by his parents, Donald John and Ann Mendoza LeBlanc of Baldwin; two brothers, Marty James LeBlanc of Franklin and Randy Joseph LeBlanc of Las Vegas; two sisters, Mona LeBlanc Robinson of Waco, Ga. and Nola "Toc" LeBlanc Darden of Charenton; five nieces; two nephews; one great nephew, and his grandfather, John LeBlanc of Baldwin.
