Austin Francois Sr.

Loved by family, friends

CADE - Services for Austin James "Dago" Francois Sr., 49, will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael M. Suchaski officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-10 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. rosary at Golden Meadows Funeral Home in St. Martinville, which will reopen Saturday at 7 a.m.

A native and lifelong resident of Cade, Mr. Francois died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2000, following an automobile accident in Cade.

He is survived by one son, Austin Francois Jr. of Cade; two daughters, Shaneeka Francois of New Iberia, and his stepdaughter, Tiwanda Gaines of Baton Rouge; five brothers, Steven Francois of Crestview, Fla., Rosmey Francois of Beaumont, Texas, Lloyd Francois of Port Arthur, Texas, Bobby Francois of Little Rock, Ark., and Marshall Francois of Lawton, Okla.; seven sisters, Cynthia Francois and Belinda Jackson, both of St. Martinville, Brenda Francois and Stephanie Madina, both of Lafayette, Elizabeth Gray and Bonnie Francois, both of Port Arthur, Texas, and Deborah Pattie of South Carolina; and one grandchild.

Mr. Francois was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Emily Burke Francois.

Golden Meadows Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.

Ellis Trahan

YOUNGSVILLE - Services for Ellis Trahan, 88, will begin at 2 p.m. today at St. Anne Catholic Church with the Rev. Louis Vu officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be until 1:30 p.m. today at David Funeral Home in Broussard.

A native of Youngsville and a resident of rural Youngsville, Mr. Trahan died at 2:47 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at Abbeville General Hospital in Abbeville.

Mr. Trahan was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Prior to his retirement he worked for Young Industries for 42 years as a sugarcane farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice Menard Trahan of Youngsville; his son, Ray Trahan, and his wife, Karen, of Carencro; three daughters, Judy Ouche, and her husband, Dennis, of Hawaii, Shirley Trahan, and her late husband, Tim, of Youngsville, and Jerri White, and her husband, Randy, of New Iberia; one brother, Dalton Trahan of Lake Charles; two sisters, Eunice Baudoin and Gussie Broussard, both of Lafayette; one half brother, Wallace Trahan of New Iberia; two half sisters, Anna Bell Sellers of Franklin, and Eva Mae Trahan of Delcambre; his daughter-in-law, Sallie Trahan of Lafayette; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Trahan was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Levy and Clelie Hulin Trahan; his son, Joseph Virgie Trahan; four brothers, Edias, Eles, Enol and Roy Trahan; and three half brothers, Bobby, Lester and Walter Trahan.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Comeaux, and Billy, Byron, Richard, Rocky and Michael J. Trahan Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Comeaux, Nicholas Potier and Michael J. Trahan Jr.

Emmett Bares

ERATH - Services for Emmett Bares, 74, will begin at 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Rev. Wayne Duet officiating. Entombment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum.

Visitation today will be from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at David Funeral Home.

A native of Abbeville and resident of Erath, Mr. Bares died at 4:50 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Lafayette.

Mr. Bares was retired as owner and operator of Bares' Department Store in Erath after 40 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served two tours. Both were in Europe, during and after World War II.

Mr. Bares was a member of the Abbeville Rotary Club and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a fourth degree Knight and a past Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus Council 3872 of Our Lady of Lourdes Church Parish in Erath.

He was a member of the Derouen-Moss American Legion Post in Erath and past president of the Twin Parish Port Commission. Mr. Bares was a past member of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry.

Mr. Bares is survived by his wife, Grace LeBlanc Bares of Erath; a son, Stephen Bares and his wife, Becky, of Youngsville; a daughter, Susan Bares Cassidy of Erath; three brothers, Allen Ray and Eno Bares, both of Lafayette, and Emery Bares of Baton Rouge; a sister, Agnes B. Richard of Abbeville; and eight grandchildren, Jay, Ryan, Richard and James Cassidy, and Janey, Laura, Ross and Caroline Bares.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Onida LeBlanc Bares.

Pallbearers will be Damon, Wendell and Dr. Jude Bares, Dewey Domingues, Joseph Montgomery, Luther Richard and Charles Toups.

Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jay, Richard and Ryan Cassidy.

His family would like to extend a special thanks to all the family, friends and people of their community for their support and keeping Emmett in their thoughts and prayers. They also want to extend their appreciation to the attending physicians and nurses who helped make his illness easier for him.

A native of Abbeville and a resident of Erath, Mr. Bares died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at a Lafayette hospital.

Brenda L. Burgess

VERDUNVILLE - Services for Brenda L. Burgess, 51, will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Verdunville with the Rev. Richard Greene officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

A native of Franklin and a resident of Verdunville, Miss Burgess died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at Lakewood Medical Center in Morgan City.

She is survived by four brothers, Daniel Burgess Jr. of New Iberia, Herman Burgess of Nebraska, Willie Burgess of Bayou Vista, and Juanover Burgess of Verdunville; four sisters, Ann Copeland of Bayou Vista, Zelda Valteau of Patterson, and Bernadette and Paulette Burgess, both of Verdunville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Miss Burgess was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Burgess Sr. and Mercedese Paul Burgess of Verdunville.

Ibert's Mortuary Inc. of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Anna Fitch

Services for Anna Fitch, 84, will begin at noon Saturday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jude Halphen officiating. Interment will be in St. Nicholas cemetery in Patoutville.

Visitation will be from 3-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home North, Trotter Street, which will reopen Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Iberia Parish and a resident of New Iberia, Miss Fitch died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Dauterive Hospital.

Miss Fitch was employed with Trappey's for 33 years.

She is survived by one half brother, Alton Jimmie Fitch of Port Arthur, Texas; and four half sisters, Mary Evelyn Floerke, Hazel Richard, Ruby Sebastian and Jeanette Twinham, all of Texas.

Miss Fitch was preceded in death by her parents, James and Gustavie Broussard Fitch; one brother, Bernard Fitch; four sisters, Emalie and Olivia Fitch, Georgia F. Gaspard and Agnes F. Moore; one half brother, Pierre Fitch; one half sister, Mary Ella Mosley; and her stepmother, Ematile S. Fitch.

Pallbearers will be Brad and Scott Bouillion, Richard and Marty Dixon Jr., Timothy Moore, Charles Moore Jr. and Charles Moore Sr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harold and Robert Bouillion.

David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Anna Fitch

Services for Anna Fitch, 84, will begin at noon today at David Funeral Home Chapel North, Trotter Street, with the Rev. Jude Halphen officiating. Interment will be in St. Nicholas cemetery in Patoutville.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services at David Funeral Home.

A native of Iberia Parish and resident of New Iberia, Miss Fitch died at 7:10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Dauterive Hospital.

She was a machine operator.

Christopher W. Graffeo

FRANKLIN - Services for Christopher Wayne "Chris" Graffeo, 40, will begin at 1 p.m. today at Church of the Assumption.

Visitation will be until the time of services today at the church.

A lifelong resident of Franklin, Mr. Graffeo died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at his residence.

Ibert's Mortuary Inc. of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Edward J. Bernard

BROUSSARD - Services for Edward Joseph "Pop" Bernard, 111, will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Louis Richard, Msgr. Harry Benefiel, the Rev. Leo Nicols and Deacon Cody Miller officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home in Broussard, which will reopen from 8 a.m. until time of services Monday.

A native of Broussard and resident of Lafayette, Mr. Bernard died at 6:45 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at his residence.

Mr. Bernard was a farmer for most of his life. He also dug deep water wells.

He was listed in the Guiness Book of Records for being the second oldest person in the world. Mr. Bernard was a member of the Woodmen of the World and was recognized as the oldest member having belonged to the organization for 93 years.

He played clarinet with the Woodmen of the World band.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Mr. Bernard's caretaker, Sonya Touchet, and also to Hospice of Acadiana for the exceptional care they gave to him.

Mr. Bernard is survived by one son, Harold P. Bernard Sr. and his wife, Beverly, of Lafayette; and a daughter, Isabelle B. Bonin of Lafayette; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Olive Savoy Bernard; his parents, Henri and Elvina Landry Bernard; a son, Wilton Bernard; six sisters and two brothers.

Pallbearers are Brian and Nicholas Abshire, David Babin, Harold P. Bernard Jr., and Donald James and Gus Bonin.

Honorary pallbearers are Boez Baudoin, Roger Bernard, Milton Broussard, Lana Duco, Howard Reddick, Joe Romero, Ellis Savoy and Tom Schiltz.

Memorial contributions in his name can be made to Hospice of Acadiana.

Mary S. Bertrand

Loving mother, wife and friend

Services for Mrs. Robert Bertrand, 45, the former Mary Suire, will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Erath with the Rev. Thomas Voorhies officiating. Interment will be in Our Lady of Lourdes cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen Monday from 8 a.m. until services.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Bertrand died at 10:40 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at her residence.

She was owner and operator of Bertrand's Restaurant.

Mrs. Bertrand enjoyed going to the casino, fishing, cooking and playing cards. She loved Cajun food with a spice of life.

Preceding her in death, her first husband, Dexter, was her "hero," and her proudest achievements were her three children: Rusty, Krystle and Tiffany. Cancer took over her body but not her loving heart and spirit.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Bertrand of New Iberia; her mother, Ruby Delcambre Suire of New Iberia; two step-sons, Barrett and Brooks Bertrand of Branson, Mo.; two daughters, Krystle and Tiffany Soirez, both of New Iberia; one son, Rusty Soirez of New Iberia; and two brothers, Kerry and Lawrence J. Suire, both of New Iberia.

Mrs. Bertrand was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Suire; and her first husband, Dexter Soirez.

Pallbearers are Michael Baker, Kerry Suire, and Brent, Rummy, Rusty and Terry Soirez.

Ruby T. McCord

Loving mother, grandmother

Services for Mrs. Shelly J. "Mac" McCord, 88, the former Ruby Theriot, will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Guidry officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-10 p.m. today with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home North, Trotter St., which will reopen Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. McCord died at 10:25 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at Dauterive Hospital.

Mrs. McCord was a retired sales clerk for Wormser's.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Nicki "Shelley" M. Hebert of New Iberia; her brother, Paul Theriot Sr. of New Iberia; her granddaughter, Natalie Hebert of New Iberia; three nephews, David M. and Paul Francis Theriot, both of New Iberia, and Richard E. Theriot of Gonzales; and one niece, Mrs. Freddie (Kathy) Doumit of New Iberia.

Mrs. McCord was preceded in death by her husband, Shelly J. "Mac" McCord; her parents, Fernand and Anna Audibert Theriot; her brother, Roy Theriot; and her sister, Irene Delcambre.

Pallbearers will be family members.
