Evelyn S. Smith

Loving mother, grandmother

Services for Mrs. Clesme P. Smith, 76, the former Evelyn Smith, were held at 10 a.m. today at David Funeral Home Chapel North, Trotter Street, with the Rev. Paul Neel officiating. Interment was in Gueydan cemetery in Gueydan.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Smith died at 10:36 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at her residence.

Evelyn was a homemaker and a loving person who was a friend to everyone. She was a member of First Assembly Church. Her favorite hobbies included gardening, crocheting and meeting people on the Internet. She enjoyed traveling and experiencing new adventures. Her happy smile and loving ways will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, brother, family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, George Smith of Belle River, and Robert Smith of New Iberia; two daughters, Patricia Cornelius of Delcambre, and Florence Monette of Flint, Mich.; her brother, Milton Smith of Coteau; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Clesme P. Smith; her parents, Peter and Angelina Castigliola Smith; and two brothers, Irvin and Merrick Smith.

Pallbearers were John Cornelius, Mark and Patrick DeRouen, and George, Ricky and Robert Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were George Monette and Milton Smith.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

Dallas "NaChick" Tabb

BROUSSARD - Services for Dallas "NaChick" Tabb, 80, will be today at 11 a.m. at the David Funeral Home Chapel in Broussard.

Visitation started Friday and continues today from 8 a.m. until the time of services. A rosary was held Friday.

A native of Scott and a resident of Lafayette, Mr. Tabb died at 8:10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Interment will be at the St. Peter and Paul cemetery in Scott.

Charles C. Whitley

Memorial services for Charles C. Whitley, 74, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Evangeline Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Horn of Highland Baptist officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service, at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date

A native of San Antonio and a resident of Carencro, Mr. Whitley was previously a longtime resident of New Iberia. He died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000 at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Whitley was a veteran of the Navy and served during World War II. He was retired from Teledyne Moveable Offshore with 34 years of service and prior to that, worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 10 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 1982 in New Iberia and a former member of the Krewe of Andalusia.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Williamson Whitley of Carencro; two sons, Tommie J. Whitley of New Iberia and Gregory Scott White of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren, Tammy Whitley Nunez and Todd James Whitley of New Iberia, and Nichole Lynn White of Orlando, Fla.; brother Herbert Whitley of Victoria, Texas; and his sister, Bertha W. Gilley of Corpus Christi, Texas.

Mr. Whitley was preceded in death by his parents, James H. Whitley and Annie Carnes Whitley; his son, Charles Ronnie White; and his brother, Waymon Whitley.

Kenneth Paul Comeaux

Loving Father

Services for Kenneth Paul Comeaux, 34, will begin at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jude Halphen officiating.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. until the time of services Monday, and there will be a rosary today at 7 p.m. The funeral home will be open all night.

A native of New Iberia and a resident of Lydia, Mr. Comeaux died at 1:09 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in New Iberia from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was employed by Gary's Plumbing in New Iberia.

Mr. Comeaux is survived by his wife, Dawn Marie Hebert Comeaux of Lydia; his parents, Paul John and Carolyn Derouen Comeaux of New Iberia; his two sons, Spencer Paul and Jake Paul Comeaux of Lydia; his brother, Shane Paul Comeaux of New Iberia; his two sisters, Paula Marie and Camie Lynn Comeaux of New Iberia; and his grandfather, Allen Benoit of Catahoula.

Mr. Comeaux was preceded in death by his grandparents, Romaine and Rose Amiee D. Comeaux, Lela D. Benoit and Lawrence Derouen.

Pallbearers include Shane Paul Comeaux, Kenneth (Keno) Rogers, Kevin Badeaux, Calvin Segura, Randy Patin and Michael Mestayer.

Honorary pallbearers include Justin Jules Bourque and Kalem Bonin.

Telesphore Derouen

Services for Telesphore Derouen, 93, will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the David Funeral Home Chapel of New Iberia, with the Rev. Keith Derouen officiating.

Visitation will be Monday from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Burial will be at Holy Family Mausoleum in New Iberia.

A heavy equipment operator for the Iberia Parish Government, Mr. Derouen was both a native and resident of New Iberia. He died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at Dauterive Hospital.

Mr. Derouen is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Donald "Ray" Marion Bourque of New Iberia; his granddaughter, Emily Bourque of New Iberia; and his grandsons, Matt Bourque of Tempe, Ariz., Mitchell Bourque of New Orleans and Tommy Bourque of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily D. Derouen; his parents, Oscar and Amelie Norris Derouen; his sisters, Nita D. Badeaux, Elvina D. Myers and Zoe D. Robicheaux.; his half sisters, Lucille Broussard and Naomie Dupius; his brothers, Arthur, Eloi, Emilian, Semilian, and Telesmar Derouen; and his half brothers, Edmund, Oliver and Seville Derouen.

Pallbearers include Mitchell and Tommy Bourque, Kenneth and Ray Derouen, and David and Herbert Moore. Honorary pallbearers include Dallas Derouen.

Services are under the direction of David Funeral Home North, Trotter Street, of New Iberia.

Laurent Baudoin Jr.

HENRY - Services for Laurent "Beb" Baudoin Jr., 84, will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Catholic Church. Interment will be in Landry cemetery.

Visitation will be until 10 p.m. today at David Funeral Home in Erath, which will reopen Thursday from 8-9:30 a.m.

A native of Vermilion Parish and a resident of Erath, Mr. Baudoin died at 3:34 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

Memorial services for Alwin J. "Al" Viator, 63, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Assembly of God.

A resident of New Iberia, Mr. Viator died at 10:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at his residence.

Ulalia T. Trahan

Loving mother, grandmother

LYDIA - Services for Mrs. Dudley P. Trahan, 77, the former Ulalia Jeanette Trahan, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Fabre officiating. Interment will be in St. Nicholas cemetery in Patoutville.

Visitation will be Friday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. with an 8:30 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home Downtown, Iberia Street, which will reopen Saturday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Kaplan and a resident of Salem, Ore., Mrs. Trahan died at 9:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Salem Hospital in Salem, Ore.

Mrs. Trahan was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting, solving crossword puzzles and loved listening to French music.

She is survived by five sons, Pat and Roy Trahan, both of Lydia, Ronald "Butch" Trahan of Grand Marais, Tommy Trahan of Houston, and Warren Trahan of New Iberia; three daughters, Ella Mae Gerard of New Iberia, Elizabeth Suire of Delcambre, and Gloria Trahan of Salem, Ore.; her brother, Relay Trahan of Cleveland, Texas; her sister, Theresa Trahan of Kaplan; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Trahan was preceded in death by her husband, Dudley P. Trahan; and her parents, Dedier and Helen Simon Trahan.

Pallbearers will be family members.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

John P. Baranco

Devoted father

Services for John Patrick Baranco, 43, will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at David Funeral Home Chapel North, Trotter Street, with the Rev. E.A. Starks officiating. Interment will be in Baudoin cemetery in Youngsville.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home, which will reopen Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Baranco died at 10:41 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center.

Mr. Baranco was a self-employed painter. He was a former police officer with the New Iberia City Police Department and was a recipient of the Optimist Club Officer of the Year in 1991.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wells Baranco of New Iberia; his parents, John and Jeanne Hebert Baranco of New Iberia; two sons, Benjamin Patrick and Marcus Ryan Baranco, both of New Iberia; his daughter, Jessica DeEtte Baranco of New Iberia; his brother, Tim Baranco of New Iberia; and five sisters, Roberta B. Adams, Theresa B. Baranco, Julie B. Lusk and Bernadine B. Myers, all of New Iberia, and Martina B. LaSalle of Forked Island.

Pallbearers will be Roger Adams, Caleb, Nathan and Tim Baranco, Scott and Shaun Dugas, Bryant LaSalle, and Isaiah and Ladd Myers.

James Foret Sr., PhD.

LAFAYETTE - Services for Dr. James A. Foret Sr., 79, will begin at 1 p.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Monsignor Glen John Provost, VF, pastor, and Monsignor Harry Benefiel officiating. Interment will be in Holy Mary, Mother of God cemetery.

Visitation will be until the time of services today at Delhomme Funeral Home.

A native of Lutcher and a resident of Lafayette since 1950, Dr. Foret died at 3 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at his residence.

Dr. Foret was the son of the late Thomas Joseph Foret II and the former Yvonne Bourgeois. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Louisiana in 1943, his master's of science degree from Iowa State in 1947, and his Ph.D. in horticulture and plant physiology from Iowa State in 1947.

Having been a veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Europe during World War II. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge in December of 1944 and was a prisoner of war for six months, liberated by Montgomery in April of 1945. He received the Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the Acadiana Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War.

Dr. Foret served as a research associate professor at Iowa State from 1947-50. Moving to Lafayette in 1950, he was associate professor of horticulture from 1950-55, served as professor of horticulture from 1955-60, was a representative on the Louisiana Board of Nuclear Energy from 1958-68 and was head of the Department of Plant Science at the University of Louisiana from 1960-72.

He served as the dean, College of Agriculture, University of Louisiana, from 1972-82. He negotiated purchase of the 600-acre Cade Farm in 1978. His research included, weed control in nursery production, container media studies, aquatic weed control, and his teachings included plant science, plant propagation, herbicides in agriculture, nursery management and soil-plant relationships. He was a member of the Blue Key Honor Fraternity, and was president of Theta Kappa Pi Catholic Fraternity and the Senior Year Class of 1943 at the University of Louisiana.

Dr. Foret served as executive secretary, LAN, 1945-85, received Arp Award from LAN, 1982, American Horticulture Society Citation in 1976, Honorary Life member LAN. He helped initiate and develop LAN certification nurserymen's program, was active in plant evaluation and introduced Folsom Weeping Yaupon in 1981. He received the Horticultural Achievement Award (medal) by Louisiana Society for Horticulture Research in 1993.

He was a member of Louisiana Arborist Association, the Educational icon of the ornamental cultural industry for more than 40 years, was an adviser and consultant for Hodges Gardens for many years, and was presently a partner with Foret & Foret, Consulting Horticulturist and Arborists.

Dr. Foret is survived by his wife, Camille Johnson Foret of Lafayette; three sons, and their wives, James A. Foret Jr. and Paula, of New Iberia, and John and Marcelle Foret, and Jeffrey and Joretta Foret, all of Lafayette; seven daughters, Mrs. Mike (Michelle) Slover of Knoxville, Tenn., Mrs. Chuck (Renee) Enze of Mandeville, Mrs. Sonny (Yvette) Yandle of Houma, Mrs. Robert (Marcelle) Langlinais and Ms. Adrienne Foret, both of Lafayette, Mrs. Jules (Marie) Broussard of Crowley, and Mrs. Richard (Celeste) Garbarino of Houston; two stepsons, James Hall Johnson and John Johnson, and his wife, Wyeanette, all of Lafayette; four brothers, and their wives, Lynn and Marie Foret, and Gerald and Katherine Foret, all of Lake Charles, Eugene and Carolyn Foret of Midland, Texas, and Daniel and Ella Foret of LaPlace; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Yvonne) Pavy of New Iberia, and Mrs. George D. (Lorraine) LaRose of Memphis, Tenn.; 27 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Fay Foret; his brother, Thomas J. Foret III; and his granddaughter, Ashley Guidry.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons of Dr. Foret.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Dr. Foret's memory to a charity of one's choice.

Eusebe J. Broussard

Services for Eusebe J. Broussard, 85, will begin at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Arnaud officiating. Entombment will be in the Holy Family Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 5-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Loreauville and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Broussard died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.

Mr. Broussard was the owner of Broussard's Dental Lab.

He is survived by his brother, Charles Broussard of Loreauville; his sister, Mrs. Blanc (Maude) Berard of New Iberia; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Broussard was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Thibodeaux Broussard; his parents, Leo and Mathilde Dugas Broussard; four brothers, Dewey, Briene, Solange and Reving Broussard Sr.; and five sisters, Mrs. Leon (Isaure) Broussard, Mrs. Emile (Alzire) Gondron, Mrs. Moise (Mathilde) Bernard, Mrs. Leon (Elina) Trim Sr. and Sister Marie Leo.

Sandra B. Breaux

Loving mother, grandmother

Services for Mrs. Johnny Breaux, 44, the former Sandra Boullion, will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Guidry officiating. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 3-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home Downtown, which will reopen Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Lafayette and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Breaux died at 4:11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Iberia Medical Center.

Mrs. Breaux was a cashier.

She is survived by her husband, Johnny Breaux of New Iberia; her mother, Inez Hebert Boullion of New Iberia; two sons, Corey and Jason Breaux, both of New Iberia; her daughter, Jodi Breaux Richard of New Iberia; her brother, Earl Boullion Jr. of New Iberia; two sisters, Cindy Boullion and Becky LeBlanc, both of New Iberia; two grandsons, Brennen and Taylor Richard, both of New Iberia; and her step-granddaughter, Braylyn Richard of New Iberia.

Mrs. Breaux was preceded in death by her father, Earl Boullion Sr.; and her sister, Jackie Comeaux.

Pallbearers will be Scott and Earl Boullion Jr., Mike Broussard, Trent Comeaux, George LeBlanc and Johnny Breaux.

Honorary pallbearers will be Corey and Jason Breaux.
