PHILIP BRUCE NELSON
BASTROP, LA - Services for Philip Bruce Nelson, age 45, of Bastrop, LA will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the chapel with Rev. Jerry Price officiating. Burial will be in Shongaloo, LA under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Nelson died April 28, 2001. He was a loving husband and father, member of Bethel Baptist Church in Cullen, LA, native of and a graduate of Shongaloo High School and a member of Bleu Bayou Harley Owners Group.
Survivors include his wife: Kimberly Murphree Nelson; parents: Bruce and Jewel Nelson of Sarepta, LA; four daughters: Jennifer, Jessica and Nichole Nelson, all of Bastrop, Patricia Nelson Kennedy and husband Steven of Shreveport; son: Jonathan Nelson of Bastrop; two sisters: Jenny Campbell and husband Don of Shongaloo and Nancy Rudolph and husband David, of Shongaloo; two sisters-in-law: Karen Easterling and husband Richard of Hot Springs, AR and Connie Murphree of Hot Springs, AR; mother-in-law: Barbara Allen and husband Wayne of Bastrop; father-in-law: Johnny Murphree of Bastrop.
Visitation will be from 5 PM until 9 PM Monday at Goldens.

ROBERT L. SPRANKLE
Robert L. Sprankle, 76, died at his home in Baton Rouge on April 27, 2001. He was born on December 5, 1924, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to Richard J. and Jeanette (Wylie) Sprankle. After graduating from El Dorado High School, he served as a pilot in the U. S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He attended Louisiana Tech and later received his bachelor's degree from the University of Omaha. From 1950 through 1957, he served as a bomber pilot in the U. S. Air Force. In 1959, he moved to Baton Rouge, where he was president and part owner of W.M. Eberhart and Sons until his retirement a few years ago. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister Ethel Sprankle Bonner. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Billie Lusk Sprankle; his sister Patsy Cowan, of Livingston, Texas; sister-in-law Janet Muffett and her husband Billy of Monroe; brother-in-law W. A. (Bo) Lusk and his wife Christine of Epps; and six nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, May 1, at the Mulhearn Memorial Park cemetery Chapel and Mausoleum, 623 Highway 80 East, in Monroe, with Rev. Arthur M. Baker officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road Monroe, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or to another charity.

MR. CASPER A. (C. A.) TOOKE, JR.
Mr. Casper A. (C. A.) Tooke, Jr. died in Shreveport on Thursday, May 3, 2001 after a brief illness. Visitation will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Sunday, May 6 from 5 until 7PM. Funeral services will begin on Monday, May 7th in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home at 10 am. Officiating will be Dr. Pat Day, Pastor of First United Methodist Church, Shreveport. Interment will Follow at Forest Park cemetery
Mr. Tooke was the descendant of a pioneer Bienville Parish family; was born in Arcadia, La and was a Shreveport resident since 1932. He was a veteran of WW II and received a field commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. He was a glider pilot and served with the 101st Airborne, participating in the Normandy invasion, Battle of the Bulge, and the Siege on Bastogne. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Mr. Tooke graduated from Arcadia High School; attended Washington & Lee University where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, remaining a member for over 50 years. He graduated from Centenary College where he received a B. A. degree in history and later received his law degree from Tulane University. He was admitted to the Louisiana bar in 1940 and practiced law in Shreveport until his retirement in 1973.
He enjoyed helping many people in his volunteer services at the Overton Brooks Medical Center through many years of assistance as a volunteer and to many veterans and to individuals in programs of recovery of alcoholism.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Bennett Tooke, who died May 1, 1959; his second wife, Doris Godsey Tooke, who died March 22, 1999; his daughter, Frances Ellen Tooke Cooper, who died May 18, 1974; and a very special daughter-in-law, Debbie Tooke who died February 2, 2000.
Mr. Tooke is survived by his daughters, Mary Tooke Frederick and husband, Charles, Jr. of Colony, TX, and Martha Tooke Simmering and husband, John, of Big Spring, TX; son, Casper Ardis Tooke, III of Ruston, LA; grandchildren, Ardis Tooke, lV, Alise, Sebastian, and Michael Goillandeau, Charles H. III, James S., Matthew F., and Jonathon Tooke Frederick; and a special friend, Sparkles.
Pallbearers will be Michael Goillandeau, Alex Harris, Antis Tooke, IV, Hugh Stephens, Dr. Leon Bain, and Fazel Hayati. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr William H. Haynie, Dr. Seborn Woods, and Francis Randall.
We would like to thank his caregivers for all they have done and their special love, Zina Oliver, Daisy Kimble, and Mary Williams.
"Military Rites will be conducted by the 12th District, Dept. of LA, Veterans of Foreign Wars - Honor Guard."

MRS. ROSIA GUINN
Services for Mrs. Rosia Guinn, age 91, of West Monroe, formerly of Haile, LA will be 10:00 AM Monday, May 7, 2001 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel West Monroe with Rev. Charles Holstead, Rev. David Maxwell and Rev. Johnny Johnstone officiating. Interment will be in Liberty cemetery, Linville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe.
Mrs. Guinn died Friday, May 4, 2001 at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Guinn was a precious Mother and was a member of Ridge Avenue Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Jessie Guinn, a son James B. Guinn and a grandson Ricky Mike.
Survivors include her two daughters: Blondell Bumgardner and husband Sonny of West Monroe, Ophelia Terral and husband Joe of Sterlington; four granddaughters; one grandson; one step grandson; nine great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
Pallbearers will be Scotty Mike, Colby Mike, Jeff Nunnery, Chris Mike, Keith Powell and Josh Risher.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 6, 2001 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Monday from 9:00 AM until service time at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe.

MRS. ZOE THARPE
Services for Mrs. Zoe Tharpe, age 82, of West Monroe, LA will be 1:00 PM Monday, May 7, 2001 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel, West Monroe, LA with Rev. Charles T. Martin officiating. Interment will be in Hall cemetery - Rayville, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Mrs. Tharpe died Friday, May 4, 2001 in West Monroe after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Tharpe was a former employee of the Fashion Cleaners and the Monroe Steam Laundry where everybody referred to her as "Granny". Mrs. Tharpe was a member of the Evergreen Park Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband Martin Tharpe, Sr., a daughter, Jeanne Tharpe, two sons Pinkey Baker Tharpe, Lynn Johnson Tharpe, a grandson John Wayne Costin and a son-in-law Ernest Costin. Mrs. Tharpe was a very special mother, grandmother and friend. Her family and friends meant everything to her and she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her son: Martin Tharpe, Jr. and wife Rosemary of West Monroe; daughter: Zoe Costin of West Monroe; sister: Kate Lindsey of Monroe; special friend: Judy Weathersby of West Monroe; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great- great grandson.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Gross, Ricky Frost, Andrew Price, Russell Takewell, LeRoy Kelly and Larry Sanford.
Honorary pallbearers will be Arnold Weathersby, Edward Takewell and Ricky Bidleman.
Visitation will be from 5 PM until 9 PM Sunday at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe.

WOODIE B. JOHNSON
BASTROP, LA - Services for Woodie B. Johnson, age 79, of Bastrop, LA will be 2:30 PM Sunday, May 6, 2001 at Golden Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Barry Brister officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery in Bastrop under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson died Friday, May 4, 2001 at his residence from natural causes.
Mr. Johnson was a charter member of Bonita Road Assembly of God in Bastrop and a veteran of WWII, having served in Europe and Alaska. He was a local businessman and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, retiring after 30 years of service. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ethel Johnson; and one brother, J. W. Johnson.
Survivors include his wife: Lessie Dee Johnson of Bastrop, LA; daughter: Sharon Elaine Lindsay of Dallas, TX; three sons: Tommy D. Johnson and wife Dorothy of White Hall, AR, Jerry W. Johnson and wife Barbara of Sherwood, AR and Ricky Lynn Johnson and wife Tami K. of Bastrop, LA; two sisters: Irene Fife of Bastrop, LA and Janell Best of Ruston, LA; three brothers: Louis Johnson of Pine Bluff, AR, Irie Johnson of Bastrop, LA and Charles Johnson of Bastrop, LA; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
Visitation was from 5 until 9 PM Saturday, May 5, 2001 at Golden's.

BENNIE (BUSTER) ROSS
WINNSBORO, LA - Services for Bennie (Buster) Ross, age 77, of Winnsboro, LA will be 2 PM, Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel in Winnsboro, LA with Rev. Bobby Brown and Rev. Roy C. Griggs officiating. Burial will be in Lone Cedar cemetery near Winnsboro, LA.
Mr. Ross died May 5, 2001 at University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.
Mr. Ross was a member of Temple Baptist Church of Winnsboro, LA. He was retired from Quality Oil and Tire after 42 years.
Survivors are his wife: Marie C. Ross of Winnsboro, LA; one son: James (Jimmy) Ross and wife, Bettie of Birmingham, AL; two grandchildren: Tim Ross of Tampa, FL; Laura McIntyre and husband, Robert of Denton, TX; three sisters: Agnes Moore of Ft. Necessity, LA; Vera Lea Seffens of Sterlington, LA; Carrie "Tincy" Baird; and sister-in-law: Joyce Cruse Fain, both of Winnsboro, LA.
Pallbearers will be Donald Seffens, Kenny Baird, Charlie Burns Moore, James Murphy, Kyle Fain, and Ralph Cottingham.
Honorary pallbearer will be Tommy Ross.
Visitation will be from 8:30 AM till time of service at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Winnsboro.

K. T. THORNHILL
Services for K. T. Thornhill, 87, of West Monroe, LA will be at 10
AM, Tuesday, May 8, 2001 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA with Rev. James Mooney and Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Burial will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
Mr. Thornhill died May 6, 2001 at Summit Hospital, West Monroe.
He was retired from the City of Monroe Electrical Dept. as a truck driver for 26 years, retiring in 1971. Also retired from City of Monroe as a School crossing Guard serving 20 yrs. after 1971, and a longtime resident of the West Monroe area.
Survivors are daughter: Linda T. Dilley of Lafayette, LA; son: Chester "A. C." Thornhill, West Monroe, LA; two sisters: Emma Roberts and Maggie Bell Brady, Winnsboro, LA; two grandsons: Felton Thornhill, Monroe, LA; Gene Thornhill, West Monroe, LA; one granddaughter: Cindy Woodham, West Monroe, LA; six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Almon and Allie Emfinger Thornhill, his wife, Lucille E. Thornhill; one brother, Jim P. Thornhill, and two sisters, Irma Lee Johnston and Mattie McMurray.
Pallbearers will be Leo Earl, Dale Earl, Bill Earl, Eddie Earl, A. J. Dilly, and Denver Copeland.

MR. MARCUS B. MAPP
Mr. Marcus B. Mapp, Professor Emeritus, Geosciences Department, University of Louisiana Monroe, died at North Monroe Medical Center on Sunday, May 6, 2001, after a brief illness. There will be a Memorial Service at 2 o'clock Wednesday, May 9, First Presbyterian Church, 1201 Stubbs Avenue, Monroe, LA. The Rev. Paul Nazarian will officiate. Visitation will follow in Lettie Owens Fellowship Hall.
Mr. Mapp was born September 5, 1914, in Harperville, MS, to Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Mills Mapp. He graduated from high school in Forest, MS, and from Miss. State University, Starkville, MS, earning Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Geology. He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Social Fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa and the M Club.
Following graduation he taught at the University until joining the coaching staff. In 1954 Mr. Mapp became a member of the faculty of Northeast Louisiana University and retired as Chairman of the Department of Geosciences in 1980. He has been active in the local Gem and Mineral Society and many other educational organizations.
Mr. Mapp is a veteran of WWII, an ordained Lay Minister, and an ordained Elder of the Presbyterian Church. He has been a Bible teacher and a member of the choir of First Presbyterian Church since 1954.
Mr. Mapp was an active volunteer with the Auxiliary of North Monroe Medical Center. He participated in the Tuesday Prayer Group at the Chamber of Commerce. He was recently awarded the Community Service Award by Fort Miro Chapter, NSDAR.
Mr. Mapp is survived by his wife Elise Dearman Mapp; one daughter Malise Russell and husband Ed of DeRidder, LA; one son Andy Mapp and wife Dianne of Bossier City, LA; four grandchildren: Elise Mitchell and husband Dr. Leon Mitchell of Wister, OK, Tatum Russell and wife Denise of Plano, TX; Andrew Mapp of Atlanta, GA; and Eason Mapp of Tampa, FL; five great grandchildren: Claire and Todd Mitchell, Lauren Mapp, and Marcus and Lindsey Russell.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1201 Stubbs Ave., Monroe, LA or to the Marcus Mapp Endowed Fund at the University of Louisiana Monroe, 700 University Avenue, Monroe, LA 71209-4205, or to the North Monroe Medical Center Scholarship Fund, 3421 Medical Park Drive, Monroe or to your favorite charity.
